Forest Fish Bar in Wiltshire

We have just moved in the same day as our visit and forest fish bar is just a 5 min walk for us which is great as parking maybe an Issue but I could be wrong as it was dark and don't know the area well it was a cold night and was surprised how cold it was in the bar as the fish was cooked fresh so you do need to wait even the girls serving were 🥶 we went for large cod and chips and the chips were fab the fish was ok but the batter was a little fatty. We have had worst but overall it's ok, at £21.50 it's not cheap but that may just be the price for the area, the staff are friendly enough. Not sure I would want to hang around if it was really busy

This chip shop is miles ahead of any of the others locally. I live in Trowbridge and purposefully drive over there to buy my fish & chips. I so wish they were based in Trowbridge. Melksham you are so lucky and yes I am jealous.

I have been using this chippy since moving to Melksham in 2006. Always had good food and yes you may have to wait at busy times but in my opinion this shows that the food is fresh and that the place is well patronised. Just had two fish, large chips, battered Jumbo sausage and standard battered sausage £13:30. A good price compared to some others. Now it's September 2023 and this is still, in my opinion the best chippy in Melksham

Run by an oriental couple who couldn't a fish if it slapped them in the face. Dry over cooked fish simply disgusting. Horrific batter.. pure grease. STAY AWAY

Wow, fish and chips, I didn't think I would say that was nice but today I had cod and chips from FFB and they were excellent. Many thanks to the fryer, he/she certainly hit my tastebuds. Definitely best chippy in Melksham.

Good Fish and Chip Shop friendly staff

I would personally say that forest fish bar is the only one I will use. I find there portions are very big thay all I can manage to eat is one of there kids meals. Plus there is a good atmosphere and friendliness. I will recommend its worth a try.

Fantastic fish and chips, friendly and welcoming staff

Went to head towards a chippy we know is nice but there was atleast 15 people if not more queuing up. Headed off into melksham and remembered this little place I have seen and never went in. Well to be honest, it was the best portion of chips I've ever had, tge curry sauce was amazing and the mushy peas aswell. Also had a fish cake on the order with a jumbo battered sausage and 3 pickled onions. All for under a tenner. I'm heading straight towards this chippy from now on. Give it a go.

Service is so slow! Waited 20 mins for just a portion of chips as they did not have the common sense to know that this order could be processed in 30 seconds rather than waiting to cook all the food for previous orders. Allowed others to push in front of my son when he tried to order and then the food is below par compared to Oceans and The Fisheries (Oceans is the best food having tried them all, but the service in the Fisheries is the best). 1 minute in the Fisheries for better chips than waiting 20 minutes in the Forest - I won't be going back.

Foods not very good and very greasy.

We put an order in over the telephone for 15 fish and chips to be collected at 12.30 pm but they didn't start cooking then untill we arrived and it took 1\2 hour for order to be cooked. So we were not impressed at service

We've tried every fish & chip shop in Melksham and this is by far the best. Always freshly cooked, chips are great, not too greasy, fish is lovely and the batter thin and crispy. I can't comment on sausages/ fish cakes/ pies etc as I've never tried them. Consistently good quality, friendly owners, we never go anywhere else now.

Seriously fantastic Chippy and when they say large its large, large fish and chips would easily feed 2 people. I love the fact that everything is cooked fresh and when they have sold out the shutter comes down that's the way to combine life with work....so don't be late.

The owners are very friendly, and work hard. Although when busy you may have a short wait is is always worth waiting for such consistent quality. I have called at the shop quite late in the evening when they are about to close, and the owner have for example cooked fish for me. I've tried most of the other shops in the Melksham area and this is by far the best.

Always get my fish and chips from here. They never disappoint. Fish always fresh and covered in lovely crispy batter with no grease residue. Chips always cooked well and tasty with huge portions. . Staff always pleasant. .

We came here for fish and chips after reading the reviews on here. We turned up on a Friday tea time so the shop was busy but we managed to park sensibly in an adjacent side street. Once inside the shop the orders were being taken quickly and the food was cooked freshly which didn't take too long. The portion sizes were good and 3 meals was plenty for 4 of us.

I spend most of the year in Greece, but whenever we return to Melksham to visit my parents, we always have at least one takeaway from here. The fish is huge, and the portions of chips are sufficient for us to share 2 between 3 adults, and still have to leave some! Nice staff, and quick service, even though they are constantly busy. My favourite chippy by miles!

This is not a bad little fish and chip shop with friendly staff and a good choice of fish alternatives. Food is prepared fast and they will accommodate individual wishes. Every village needs a good chip shop and this is melksham
