Wish we'd read ths recent reviews and saved our money. We were recommended this place and the photos on the website were impressive. Also, it's in the Michelin Guide. But that was all based on the previous restaurant, not the current one. Same name, but different management. They still charge 'fine dining' prices but the meal was very average. A rather strange and oily 'amuse bouche' consisted of a cheese and bacon doughnut. My starter was 3 teeny sardines awash in oil plus a teeny bit of focaccia. No discernible seasoning. Main was a slab of trout (which was nice, but no different from what we would cook at home) plus four little florets of cauliflower which had been 'charred', and two teaspoons of puree smeared on the plate. All very dry and very basic seasoning. I had asked for some green veg on the side, and although the waitress smiled and nodded I wasn't convinced she understood. (The green veg never came). She seemed confused about the wines so we had to point at the one we wanted on the menu. My husband's beef was overly salty and instead of the 'fondant potato' he got a blob of mash. Two courses for £45 was little short of a ripoff. Even the two pot plants were dead in that sad conservatory. And no, I didn't complain, to save my husband's embarrassment, and in an effort to salvage the evening we just laughed (and wrote) it off.

We had our wedding lunch here in 2021 and have returned every year for our anniversary. This year will be our last visit as unfortunately the team have changed and standards have dropped significantly. The restaurant is an okay place to go now for a light lunch (although we shared a platter and for £23, expected more than two small pieces of bread with no butter and pre-prepared deli meat accompanied by damp salad). Service was good but clearly lacked the experience of the old team. If you've never been before, it's fine; if you previously went for fine dining, avoid.

We had dined previously at Forelles and for a special 87th Birthday had chosen to return. Previously the food and service were exquisite. A fine dining experience at its best. The canapes with drinks and pre course delights provided were stunning. They had sufficient substance and we left the table feeling repleat and wishing to return again. The quality of flavour and presentation were outstanding. The service was also superb. When the waiters presented the food, they explained the ingredients and what methods had been used to prepare various aspects of the dish. Service was timed perfectly. On the 12th of June this year, under new ownership., the food was mediocre. It lacked the quality and presentation expected with fine dining and with three small courses there was insufficient substance. However we were charged for fine dining! The service was slow and unprofessional. It took 2 hours at the table to receive the 3 small courses. No explanation of the dishes were required as they had few ingredients and were so simple. No wine list was offered and we sat so long at the table waiting for service that we chose to leave without coffee. I wrote to the management to say that they had lost a gem and that I thought sadly they were unaware of it. I've yet to receive a reply. I also asked them to change the fine dining menu and pictures of food produced by their wonderful previous chef as these did not reflect the reality of our experience. There are now new pictures and I hope this time it is a true representation of what to expect. We were let down on a very special occasion that can never be recaptured.

There for Christmas. A wonderful time. Such lovely staff. This place can serve up truly 1st class food, and it's only a matter of time before they get a Michelin star. BUT - like most places in Ludlow they are living on the reputation of Shaun Hill - who left the town 10+ years ago, and the resultant huge tourist demand. Note to tourists - Shaun is in Wales now. So prices here and elsewhere in town are just massively over priced , living on the historical reputations as a "foodie town", which is no longer deserved. There is a great restaurant in this town - but I'm not telling where. ( and it's not Bistro 7 )

My last visit here at Fishmore was December 2021, So it's been a long well overdue to come back here to eat once again!! I one thing I know about Fishmore more is that, I'm already Guaranteed a full flavoursome and banging taster menu. So Having spent time in Ludlow eating & shopping come here for lunch on my last day! Finished the trip off greatly. So Having had a beervand chill in the lounge just before my meal, it was time to start. Canapés come out ! Both 3 was dam so good. Excellent way to get you i the mood for the coming delights. Next was the Roscoff Onion, Gruyere & walnut!! Now Roscoff is in my eye's my favourite Onion! And this was really really good! Now who doesn't live Cheese & Onion? Next up was the Bread, which was a perfectly baked Focaccia! The Spring in that bake was a goodun and not too oily.. After the bread break.. it was Celeriac, Cep, Lovage.. The flavours from this was literally spot-on, every just blended well together! I always get a little excited when i see Celeriac on a menu as it's not used much, but is a blessing thing to eat! And this worthy being on the menu. Next was the Scallop, Sweetcorn, Chorizo, Coriander! Scallop was nice plump & luscious, perfectly cooked and all flavours absolutely worked ! With a coquette crunch to add a little texture. Now for the main of Rose Veal, Turnip, Sweetbread, Seaweed.. Now there's one thing on this plate i don't see very often anyone? Sweetbread! The baby beef was so bostin and tender, Sweetbread was just what i needed, and the Seaweed brought a flavour of sea/oyster to the plate.. absolutely brilliant main ! Let's talk desserts now... Apple,  Douglas Fir,  Buckwheat, was the pre-dessert! This was ever so refreshing to the mouth! Dam delicious... Next up was this Salsify, Chocolate, Hazelnut... Now this dessert is definitely the best one i tasted this year and for awhile! It was that good the feeling it gave to me while eating it was a feeling of pure happiness. Plus a dessert with Salsify root vegetable in in, I've not seen or heard that before! Top marks for this magical thing... Then it was the petit Fours to finish off a really really really bostin lunch! Till next time! And hopefully won't leave that long to the next visit.....

Was everything one might expect from. Michelin listed restaurant - and more. The setting is lovely, overlooking the lawns of the Fishmore Halls hotel just outside of Ludlow, with fields and the Shropshire hills beyond. The service was impeccable and faultless. The dishes, well! My view on tasting menus is I expect to be wow’ed by at least two thirds to three quarters of the courses. I think my wife and I had eight courses. We agreed that all but one course wow’ed us. And the course that didn’t quite have the wow factor was still enjoyed. A particularly pleasing aspect was a large selection of wines by the glass, with prices ranging from under £10 to £24. Appreciated as I was driving. I would have no hesitation in returning next time we are in the area. Thanks all at Forelles for a perfect lunch.

Booked in for the tasting menu. Ordered classic and vegetarian option. Personally didn’t want to try the tasting menu as I’m not as much of a foody as my partner. Have to say that the taste of all the courses were amazing and happily ate everything. Partner has had tasting menus before and she said it’s nicest one she’s had. We stayed in the hotel (Fishmore) for 2 nights.. they do offers that include the tasting menu which I didn’t opt for so if you are thinking of staying book the tasting deal as might save you some money.. we’ll worth the money

I came to this restaurant with my friends for lunch and I'm unhappy with my experience at this restaurant. A member of staff aged around 55-60 years old was too obsessed with serving and came to the table too often. This same staff member was in the men's toilets and told me that I have a nice bottom and invited me for a coffee in a quieter place. I feel this behaviour is unacceptable at a restaurant and was very uncomfortable with the whole situation. But i have to admit food was really decent.

I wasn't expecting to find food of this standard at this restaurant. I asked my companions which were their favourite courses, and we all came up with two or three different ones, the chocolate dessert, the onion soup, the trout, the beef, the rhubarb, and on and on, changing our minds, because frankly, all the courses were superb. Far better than tasting menus I've eaten at more feted places. The wine pairing was first class. The service was excellent. We went back and tried the carte, because we enjoyed it so much. And we are all looking forward to coming back again. That is very rare with any restaurant.

Went for lunch on the hottest day of the year, but even though 'Forelles' restaurant is in a large conservatory, there were plenty of windows and doors open and we stayed cool. Our first time here after a number of recommendations from friends, we were the only ones in Forelles for most of the time we were there, think the heat had put people off, 35 deg C! We chose the tasting menu which was 8 courses including the generous canapés, and petit fours. Very high quality presentation and cookery, all courses were delicious without exception. Service was a little slow given the lack of customers, but it was friendly and helpful. We shall definitely be returning.

People coming in for afternoon tea towards the end of our meal that looked really lovely as well. Highly recommended.

Made the mistake of going here for a family birthday on a Sunday evening. They served us Sunday lunch in the evening that was so dry I think it was probably cooked at lunchtime and reheated. I complained to the waiter that it was dry and overcooked and he couldn't have cared less. We asked for small plates for our children but was still charged £21 for a reheated meal for a 3 year old. I complained again when paying the bill and the waiter just shrugged and took my card. So disappointed with everything about this experience on what was supposed be a special occasion.

Firstly £85 for a rating menu outside of London and not at a place with a star is a joke. Most of the food we had was decent, but very much nothing special. The thing that has really skewed the score was the main… the iberico pork was disgusting, there is no other word for it. It both tasted and smelled like a farm yard! It wasn’t the pork, but the palm hearts that were responsible; anyone that thinks that flavour is pleasant or works with pork needs their taste buds testing. Would never come back, might even avoid the post code just in case.

We were staying for the weekend at Fishmore Hall (see separate review) and our a la carte dinner at Forelle's on Saturday night was excellent in every way.Service was impeccable before, during, and after our meal. All the restaurant staff were super friendly and helpful. My partner and I have strong aversions to some flavours (e.g. coriander, aniseed) which to us are unaccountably popular and worse, often appear unadvertised in menu descriptions. We take pains to check for these ingredients in advance, which makes for some embarrassing conversations - what must the staff think about us fuss-pots?! I am very happy to say that the Forelle's staff took our enquiries in their stride with no bother whatsoever and we were able to select dishes with confidence. Full marks. The food we eventually chose was all brilliant, as were the canapes and snacks that were an unexpected treat given we weren't having the tasting menu. Highlights were a starter of cauliflower with curry & cheese sauce that was indecently good, a main of iberico pork, and a peach baked alaska. But everything was utterly delicious, with unexpected but successful flavour combinations, and all cooked and presented immaculately.Service was pitch-perfectly attentive, but not overbearing, and dishes were served at a relaxed pace meaning we weren't at all rushed. All in all we had a very enjoyable meal and we would be very happy to dine there again if we found ourselves at Fishmore Hall or the Ludlow area again.

Second time visiting Fishmore Halls main restaurant. The forelles side of the hotel is the main attraction. The food continues to impress. The bread and butter has changed since we had been before (but not a huge amount else) and it is quite simply a masterpiece in how to start a meal. It builds up expectations that get met with every course. We visit the area every two years and we look forward to a meal at forelles every single time. We hope that next time we will visit on a day where the chef is working as the last two times we asked to meet the chef, we were told that we had come on his/her day off.

Simply, outstanding. Our welcome to the hotel, the spa, nestled elegantly into the garden, the clean yet appealing design, a good start. Then the restaurant, as vegetarians, fine dining is rare, yet here the experience, impeccably served, is outstanding. Beautifully balanced, fireworks on a plate, with flavours to remember. A chef myself, this standard was so much higher than expected, and so thoroughly competently executed, with good grace care, a little humour. Perfect.Small details noticed, management checking, quietly, carefully. Staff morale very high, these things matter so much. Best dish: cauliflower, a beautiful crèma, sliced and grilled, exquisite balance in strong flavours. One that didn't quite work: the balance between tomato quinoa and black olive caramel. We'll be back for sure.

Had an excellent lunch on Monday. We ate in the conservatory. The service was good and the presentation excellent. We chose from the two or three course menu. After a delicious broccoli and blue cheese soup as an amuse-bouche, we all chose different starters. My risotto was lovely. Two of us then chose the fillet of beef. It was very tender, served rare and sliced with a variety of vegetables. We chose a glass of white wine to accompany the starter and a bottle of Pinotage to go with the main course.

We visited here for lunch for the first time . Cannot rate the food highly enough- it blew us away. The bread and salts/flavoured butter, and then the celeriac and fennel soup was a lovely tasty surprise, and such a start of good things to come. So light and delicious. We had the cod, and lamb fillet as starters, and then the beef fillet, and lemon sole as mains. My husband who is a chef said it was one of the most memorable meals he's had in a long time. Chloe, our waiter was exceptional , knowledgeable, and attentive . Would definitely return.

Was expected to be wowed but sorry not this time, maybe just some were not to our taste, it was the taster menu.Lovely service albeit a little slow, we noticed a larger table having same menu caught us up and were then offered coffees before us, we paid and went to our room for coffees.Excellent breakfast the following morning, lovely service, she has been at breakfast for quite a while, genuine host.

We went for the set Sunday lunch, which was modern, imaginative, flavoursome, skillfully prepared and presented. However the hotel surroundings and decor didn't enhance our experience. We sat in the conservatory which is bright but a bit sole-less and in need of blinds and styling detail. Service was acceptable but again, needs sharpening up to match the quality of the food. The hotel clearly has a talented team in the kitchen and we would recommend the restaurant. A restyle of the interiors to match the quality and style of the cooking would really enhance things - get an interior designer Fishmore!

Genuinely surprised Forelles isn’t marked as the #1 restaurant in Ludlow! We went for there and ordered from their a la carte menu that provides 5 options per menu category alongside some little surprises to clear your palette between courses. The service was exemplary, the wine recommendations well judged and knowledgeable, and the food was beautiful, delicious and creative. I’m lucky enough to occasionally dine at Michelin starred restaurants in London and Forelles is up there, deserving a star! Well worth a visit!

We chose the al a carte menu because the lunch menu (which we had intended to have) was hidden away behind the wine section and we overlooked it. We could not fault the food or presentation but the men were still hungry after 3 courses. The service was very good too. Overall a very expensive place to visit for lunch with prices costing as much as an evening meal in a 4 star hotel.

The goats cheese starter was excellent and beautifully presented. We had the lamb main which was also very good, the turbot dish was let down somewhat by the very watery broth. However the meal was redeemed by the interesting banana dish which was excellent.

We first visited Fishmore Hall in January for a spa weekend and upon arrival decided to change our plans of eating in Ludlow and try the 9-course tasting menu. Well what a great decision that was, the food, the service and the whole evening was absolutely fabulous. Joe Gould (Head Chef) and his team created a wonderful tasting menu, dishes that not only flowed beautifully but were delicious and innovative, each in their own right and had great wine pairings too – I cannot recommend trying this place highly enough. It was so good that we decided to go back at the end of March with some friends to do it all again. As we were a bit early for a spring menu change having only been a few months before, the menu was very similar to the one we had in January (which trust me was no problem as it was so good) but instead of having this, Joe and the team made an incredibly kind offer to create us our own bespoke tasting menu which had 4/5 new dishes on it, either tasting versions of dishes from the a la carte menu or completely new dishes that they had been working on. What can I say apart from another great evening, with superb food, great wines to match and flawless service. The team at Fishmore Hall really do go above and beyond in providing you a great experience, whether its Joe and his team in the Kitchen or Martin and Mirka - Front of House who look after people so graciously and are extremely knowledgeable about the food and wine they are serving.

Booked to sample the tasting menu, as this was my husbands birthday treat. Canapés were delicious. All other meals were very poor, especially the fish course, which we did not attempt, as it was very evident that it was not cooked. We explained to the waitress but were not assured that this would be shared with the chef. Disgusted that the tablecloth was in need of laundering. Sweete were acceptable, however not to the standard we have enjoyed elsewhere. Very disappointed as a restaurant that we had used regularly had intimated that we might enjoy. Oops overcharged by £10 for our bottle of wine. (This was rectified over the telephone later). Basically we will return to Mortimer, which is far more in keeping with the standard we enjoy.

We visit Fishmore hall several times a year having got married there in 2011. The food is always fantastic! We have the 6 course taster menu and accompanying wines each time. The service and staff are always pleasant and friendly but we just felt that we should leave some feedback to say 2 key things based on Friday nights visit. 1. A sommelier or waiter/ress who knows the wine and why it has been chosen for each dish should come to the table as this is reason why you pay for the wine taster menu and the experience 2. The food is so great but we feel it should be put on the table and then a description should be given rather an explanation being given in a hasty way as the food is being placed- these 2 changes would greatly improve the experience and may lead to Michelin status. We hope to visit again in the winter and maybe these points may have been taken onboard?

There was a little confusion regarding the menu offered on arrival. We had purchased a deal which should have included the A la Carte Menu but initially we were only presented with a shorter Table d'hote. However this was swiftly rectified. We enjoyed olives and seasoned nuts with our aperitifs, ordered our meal and then sat in the conservatory for a very impressive lunch. Our deal included hot canapes, freshly baked sour dough bread and then fab starters - Scallops with pork belly, crisp apple julienne and roasted hazelnut plus for my husband the Rabbit Tortellini. Both beautifully presented and seasoned. ..very generous portions.I choose the Rose Veal and my husband the Lamb....again exquisite presentation, cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. We then ordered dessert, and whilst they were being prepared we were presented with a refreshingly citrus Lemon Posset pre-dessert.Then, the ultimate star of the meal....my husband had the Hot Orange Soufflé with milk chocolate and Pepper icecream. Just sublime!I also thoroughly enjoyed my Vanilla Panna Cotta with Rhubarb Sorbet, poached rhubarb and Rhubarb crisps. So well balanced and refreshing. We chose wines by the glass to go with each course...they offer a good selection by the glass and reasonably priced. Our waitress, Victoria, was wonderful. ....some front of house issues! Arrived a little early having been told we could have a drink before a 7pm start! Nobody in evidence to greet us.We sat in the slightly dreary and tired lounge area for a full ten minutes and no one came near us! Then we moved to the Reception area and watched a lady who we later discovered to be the owner check someone in....still no acknowledgement of our presence. The only seats in the bar area are of the modern high stool and we prefer a little more civilised comfort than that!Eventually we went to the bar and were seated in the restaurant. We were the only diners on the night and were looked after by a couple of willing but fairly amateur Latvian staff. The food that came out of the kitchen was simply excellent, inventive, imaginatively presented and had great taste intensity. This level of cuisine deserves better support front of house. Incidentally when I'm parting with £110 for our supper I do not expect coke carrying youths walking through the restaurant to sit outside!!Nobody came near us after our desserts ....and we had to walk out to the bar! If this is the general standard of the hotel beyond the kitchen, I'm not sure they deserve a chef of Andrew Birch's skill level!
