Foreign Muck in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Every time we eat here it's fantastic, the food is to die for! Staff are amazing! Atmosphere is always friendly and fun never a dull moment! Well worth the 50 mile round trip to get here, wish we could come more often!

My first visit. Used to live in Saltash until 2013. Really enjoyed it here today. I like the layout, the waiter was friendly and efficient. Really enjoyed the food. I like most things, meat and fish. But this evening I had a delicious salad, based on Kale with a range of ingredients, including Ginger. To accompany it I noticed one option was roast cauliflower.. Really delicious. My wife decided to have Chocolate Bread and Butter pudding. She enjoyed that. And an old friend who lives in Saltash and joined us had a Meat and Cheese bowl. All very happy. I'll remember it here and use it again if in the area.

It is with regret that I leave this review but unfortunately my experience the last two times I've been to Foreign Muck has left me with little desire to return. Yesterday myself and a friend decided to pop in for some food and found the service poor. Despite there being clear tables we were told to leave our number and they'd contact us, however upon our insistence that we were happy to wait at the bar, they allowed us to pull up a seat and wait. Hoping to grab a beer while we waited we asked the staff, but we're told that we'd be seated shortly and not to worry about. We were then taken to a table several minutes later and slightly parched. Our order for drinks were taken but then a few more minutes go as we watch another table arrive before we ask our initial waiting staff if our drinks were on the way. They admitted they'd forgotten our order and it would arrive shortly. We get our drinks and starter, shortly after and all is going well. We demolish the starter between us and while enjoying our drinks we see two large tables seated next to us. Our server asks us if we want new drinks and being thirsty gentlemen we place our order. Unfortunately once again our drinks were not immediately forthcoming and we asked a different server if she could chase them up for us. During this time both the tables seated after us start receiving food and we are left still waiting for both drinks and food. We chase our drinks down once more and they arrive almost immediately, having been forgotten at the bar. We consume most of our drinks as the tables near us now receive further food. Annoyed, we go to ask the server why those tables had received their food before us, having been sat down before. They tried to explain that it was based on when our starter was finished. We then questioned why they had to be reminded of our drinks orders and they blamed the use of a notepad for them being forgotten. At this point they called over the manager who then condescendingly explained how food service is conducted. They then informed us that our food was now ready. At this point the mood had soured and we refused, paying for our drinks and starter before leaving. We were one of three tables remaining in the restaurant. It's such a shame as the food and service in previous years had been excellent, but both this experience and my previous one having large service issues has moved me to leave this review in hope that some change will take place. Unless it is someone else's suggestion, I do not think I'll be coming back any time soon. The food here is still exceptional, but the price has gone up and with the service I've received it's a much harder sell.

Such a gorgeous meal. Every mouthful a delight. Was a bit of a wait but so worth it. The food was fresh and cooked to perefection, if you can, go !

We were shown to our table we sat and waited 22 minutes for our first lot of drinks. They were not that busy. The person on the bar was busy talking to customers as if they are her friends then after 20 minutes we placed our order for food a further 30 minutes came so we’ve been in there for an hour we saw as we got halfway through our drinks we ordered some more they took another 20 minutes first bite I took into my food there was a bird feather in there we both had the chicken enchilada been a chef. I do know the difference between a chilli core And a bird feather we gave it to a lady that was either the manager or the owner she proceeded to tell me it was a stalk from the chilli, but you could quite clearly see the feathers off it when I asked to have a look at it again she had dismantle it will not be returning be aware The two people that were making the food behind the open kitchen one had just a pair of shorts on which is dangerous in itself. He had long hair so did the lady no hair nets no hats.

Well, where to start...... I do love the back story of the name, and it was probably the first thing I noticed when looking for somewhere to eat. This restaurant specialises in American and Mexican dishes that are all made in house. From burger buns and tortillas to ketchup. The restaurant is clean and tidy with a small mini bar at the front. The website warns that they don't take bookings, but when it's busy will take your number, then text you when your table is free. You can wait at the bar, or even leave. But don't be tempted to eat somewhere else, it's not worth it! The staff are friendly, and attentive with food orders cooked fresh for you. So, to the bit you really want. Cons (first, because everyone just normally skips to this bit): *Soda (Coke) seemed a bit flat. *Proper chips are nice, but were a bit salty. Would have preferred triple cooked chunky. *Food does take a bit of time to come. This isn't a problem, as it all arrives cooked and tasty. But I did notice a larger table getting impatient. *Parking, with the restaurant on the main Street in saltash, you have to use a pay and display. But it's located very nearby. Pros: *Fresh home made meals. *Friendly staff *Good décor *Damn good food..I mean it's really good. Would we go again? Yes. I'm full writing this now, and still thinking about the Queso dip. I want more of it. Like right now. Well done guys and girls, we was looking for a Mexican restaurant to win us over, and your it. We will be back! Edit: It's been a few months now. And I'm still thinking about that Queso dip Updated review October 2024. Just went back here...... When I wake up from the food coma in the next few days I might leave a more detailed review. But short and sweet, queso dip is still very good. Chicken wings in hot sauce made my face tingle and I loved every mouth fall. The chimichanga was a bit greasy from its cooking. The enchiladas are just brilliant. The Mucky fries are yummy, but I wish the chilli con carne was a bit spicier. I weighted myself leaving the house and I am lying here trying not to die with 2.25kg of food in my stomach. It hurts, and I have mexican flavour burps. My only regret is I got gym in the morning, and it might kill me.

Very unusual pub. Well worth a visit, whether just for a drink or meal or both

Fantastic service, food and cocktails as always, we have been here several times and they are amazing! Our favourite local haunt, we will definitely be back!

Unfriendly staff - we were made to feel very uncomfortable after mentioning the burger appeared to be "off/tasted odd" and were met with hostile comments that if it had not been "half eaten we could have done something" it only had a bite out of it. Even when we left after spending nearly £100 the staff glared at us and was quite intimidating. I did write in but did not even receive a reply to my email of 27th July.

Really great experience all round. Staff were friendly and very attentive and the food was as good as everyone says it is. Really good quality and portion sizes. 10/10

Really enjoyed going to this place. Staff were friendly and helpful, we loved the eclectic music choices. I had the vegan burger, my wife had the buffalo cauliflower- both dishes were delicious! This place is well worth a visit and we’ll be back next time we return to the area.

The explanation of the name is worth a visit in itself! The menu is varied and I could have pretty much everything on it. This time I had a burrito rice bowl with shrimp and beans, which was delicious - and more prawn than shrimp, a generous portion. My on,y comment would be that the sauces were a nit in the way being in the bowl itself, maybe put the bowl on a larger plate with the saice bowls on the side. The deep fried macaroni cheese balls were great! There is a great range of local beers, ciders and wines - we always choose local. My friends had burgers which disappeared very quickly. A fun place to eat

Food good but went to Metal Monday and they disputed the t shirt my husband was wearing was metal but rather hard rock and so didn't qualify for any of the special offers. He was gutted and only got a shaken head and a shrug when asked if it was. Made for an uncomfortable night. Waitress didn't want to engage with us after the interaction. If it had been e planned politely wouldn't have been an issue but just awkward which isn't what anyone needs on a night out!

Just had the best family meal in a long time…..we arrived and were put on the wait list. Popped over to Bandits and ordered drinks, only to receive a call a few minutes later to say they had a table. We were allowed to bring our drinks across! We then asked for the staff for advice on how much to order and they couldn’t have been more helpful. We ordered the guacamole starter , which there was plenty of, followed by various taco’s and dirty fries. The staff were so friendly and kept ordering as and when we wanted anything. Great atmosphere and great decor….would love a local that we could visit.

Great for a date night! Bring your appetite and know you are getting value for money! I had to get a take away box as soon as the food hit the table ! It's amazing and the flavours are on point! 10 out of 10 highly recommend.

We've been here a fair few times now, we drive down from Dorset every 6 weeks or so..this place never fails..staff are great, very professional, engaging always smiling, they seem to all work as a well oiled machine, nothing is too much trouble.. when we arrived this time, it was packed, that to me is a great sign, no tables available so they asked if we would like to sit at the bar..no problem..great selection of beers and then you get your food...I'm trying to work my way through the menu...everything I've had so far has been delicious..keep up.the great work..Saltash is very lucky have this place..see you in 6 weeks...

My wife and I arrived on Sunday about 5:15. Offered a bar seat even though there were tables available. We were told that they were for groups so we said ok. We sat down and watched couples be seated at the other tables. When we asked why we couldn’t have a table. We were told that they had seated the other couples by mistake. At NO POINT was an apology offered. We told them we wouldn’t be eating there. We finished (half of) our drinks, paid for them and left. To our amazement a waitress/manager chased us down the street to ask why we didn’t pay for our meal (that we didn’t have). Maybe it was a genuine mistake and maybe it wasn’t but the way the staff handled it was very rude. We won’t be coming back.

Just love this place. Sat at the Bar looking out ..just the most tastiest food as always. Great staff. Truly looked after. We will be back in 6 weeks. Good job

Wir haben hier tolle Burger gegessen. Die Bewirtung war hervorragend und das Personal super freundlich. Vegetarisches Essen gab es auch im Angebot. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

No wonder we keep coming back to this place, excellent food, excellent beers/cocktails, the most excellent tunes and the staff are attentive and friendly. Burritos spit on, tacos delicious and you must try their ‘Mac slayers’ they are outta this world! 10/10 again FM, well done 👏🏻

I don’t write reviews unless it is either exemplary or dreadful. I’m sorry to say our experience at Foreign Muck falls in to the latter category. It started off fine with our drinks, well it was my third choice of alcohol free beer because they didn’t have the first two! To be fair, we had to wait for two of our party to arrive so we did contribute to the delays, but a c.50-60 minute delay between starter and main course was 40-50 minutes too long. Five minutes into our meals one of our party pulled an extremely long hair from her mouth, with food attached. How she managed to retain her dignity I do not know, but to say this put a dampener on the evening would be an understatement, only surpassed by the apparent lack of interest of the staff. I can understand that because the majority of staff were very young and would probably not have a clue how to deal with such an occurrence, which is somewhat comforting in way as it would appear this was a rare happening. Attempting to explain our disappointment and increasing anger proved to be an incredible frustration and whilst said meal was taken off the bill, there was no other compensation offered or given, even after it being demanded. Such an offer would have made a huge difference to our opinion of Foreign Muck and had we left with some degree of satisfaction this review might not have been written. Alas not, 10/10 for intransigence goes to the girl on the till! And 10/10 goes to the family not wanting to make a fuss in front of a full house, especially considering one of our party was celebrating a birthday. We shall not be back to FM but we will be contacting the owner to emphasise our dissatisfaction and we will also be strongly advising all we know to give the place a wide berth.

Really great food and service, extensive menu that had loads to choose from, struggled to choose. Lovely decor and fast service. Something different and would highly recommend. Hope to return soon!

Came in early this evening....5.05pm! as we had taken the time to read their website, which helpfully says what's their busiest times.....!?!.(That's a poke at all the morons who moan they can get a table and then leave a bad review). My wife and I had burgers which were fabulous certainly no complaints from us. Our son had the burritos again...he was also very happy!. All the food was hot , tasty, and freshly made from scratch on the promises, certainly no boxes of frozen food was seen by us. I'd also like to give a huge nod to our waitress (who also manages the sister restaurant) she was very polite , friendly and efficient nothing seemed too much trouble. We are ate,drank paid all with no problems. Left a small tip on the way out, firmly knowing that we'd return to try more items from the menu on our return.

The wait time for food was over an hour and then they got my order wrong so I sat and watched my partner eat and then when my food eventually turned up she watched me eat. The food was overly salted and my partners burger was dry. The kitchen staff were very apologetic even though it wasn't their mistake to apologise for, the waitress had put the wrong order through.

Don't waste your time , plenty of other places locally whom offer better service and food

I visited Foreign Muck with friends, the restaurant is full of character and atmosphere and the staff made us feel really welcome. We were given menus and allowed time to peruse whilst our drinks were prepared. After a few more minutes (there’s a great selection) we ordered. Food arrived in quick time, gorgeous! Best burrito I have ever tasted! I was really hungry and left very full - portions are generous. Would throughly recommend.

Had heard great things about this place and it did not disappoint. Excellent food, great portion size, service brilliant, there was a real buzz when we arrived and this continued through the evening. All in all a fab place to visit if you’re feeling hungry.

Great beers and food is to die for. Especially chicken wings with Rambo sauce. Great service.

When we walked in, there were only 3 tables with people. Food still took over an hour for 3 burgers to which I can't say we were wowed by. Defently not on my list of places to eat at again, very dispointed

We have visited 3 times to Foreign Muck and each time are greeted by a very unwelcoming and rude young lady on front of desk (Blonde long hair). We was told there was no where to sit when there clearly was, then once seated after a very rude welcoming she then took our order on the table.... Extremely rude, almost passive aggressive when taking the order. We will not ever return while this young lady works there!! Very disappointing as the old staff when we first ever visited would never welcome and treat customers this way!! Food amazing, the mentioned lady - terrible asset to foreign muck!

Lots of selection everyone in the group was happy. A few meat eaters enjoyed their burgers, vegetarians also had fab burgers. I had the artichoke spinach dip - yum, fresh tortilla chips and 2 tacos, shrimp and veggie chilli, they were really tasty and so worth it. Cocktails were pretty good too! Staff were friendly and helpful. Would recommend to others and would definitely be back if nearby.

Popped in here on our way back to Devon. It was a told pot luck choice but I was really impressed with the quality of the food and level of service this place is definitely a hidden gem. I had one of the best burgers i every had. Would recommend to anyone passing through or in the area

Visited on a Saturday night for a meal as a couple after being recommended to us multiple times. We thought we try and get a table as we know how hard it can be on a busy Saturday night. We managed to get a table and wow the service and food was amazing! We both had burgers and also a dessert. Luckily only shared the dessert as it was huge!!! The food was lovely and we will definitely be returning! Thank you!

Can't say anything about this as it was impossible to get in. Obviously popular but why don't they have a booking system to give everyone a fair chance? We got their early in the hope of getting a table but were sorely disappointed! Our daughter and partner have tried several times but with no success. I guarantee if they don't adopt a booking system it will be to their detriment.

Had to write this review after reading some previous poor reviews. We dined on Saturday evening it was busy had no problems with are server Lauren she was very attentive and kept asking us if we needed anything. We ordered 2 starters which was served about 15 mins after order was taken it arrived piping hot. There was a reasonable gap before the mains arrived. Couldn’t fault the food it was delicious. The staff were very approachable and smiley.😊

Have been before and can confirm the food has been good but the chaos that reigns regards the wait has put us off. Walked in, table for 2? Told there was a wait, took our mobile number and invited us to go over to Bandits and have a (quite expensive) drink. 40 mins later, the phone rings. There’s a table for us. Walked over, got seated and looked at the menu. 10 mins later the lady came to take our order and informed us there was about an hour wait for food so we left and went to the Indian instead. How could this be improved? Perhaps a booking system and let people know they only have the table for a set amount of time - maybe have menus in Bandits so you can order ahead or at least save time. The current system has however, put us off.

Great service and good food as usual. Loads of choice and everything cooked freshly with a reasonable wait. Will be coming back again!!!

Great food well priced but far too long waiting for food nearly an hour.very cold inside as well could have been a great experience but wasn’t .

When we arrived, we asked how long our food was likely to be as we'd heard and read previously about delays in service; we were informed 45 minutes max, which was fine for us. However, one and half hours later and there was no sign of our food!! Transpires, any takeaway orders are prioritised over folk actually sat in the restaurant, so it was nearer two hours before we ate. I can't fault the food because when it did arrive it was lovely, but the place lacks direction and proper management. It would be so much better if they actually took bookings rather than you turning up on the off-chance they may have a table available. On this point, we were seated initially next to the kitchen, with dirty, greasy cooking equipment piled high waiting to be washed I presume; it all seemed very chaotic and disorganised. Although our eventual food was good, I won't be going back, it's just too hit and miss.

We have tried Foreign muck 3 times now. We were introduced to it by neighbours who highly recommend it. Unfortunately we were ignored and it seemed friends and locals were served before us and high priority as we waited to be served. Our neighbours were embarrassed as the 1st experience was a disaster, and waited for over 2 hours for food as overs were served before us with more attention. We have recently moved back to the area I felt dis associated every time we have visited this restaurant and the other Bandits. As I mentioned tried this restaurant as family and friends and a date night. Not impressed at all with our numerous experiences. Rude, sarcastic staff and very average food. My wife liked the wallpaper more than our experiences. Won't return as given so many chances. Over hyped in my opinion unfortunately

Another great meal out at fm, they have by far the best beers on tap within the local area and the food was excellent as usual. We decided to stop by for food whilst out on a walk and the burger was genuinely the best I’ve had in years

Absolutely amazing experience as usual. Both the staff and the food were superb.

We stopped for lunch as had heard both good and bad reviews and wanted to try it for ourselves. We ordered and then waited an hour for food to arrive. At no point did anyone apologise for the wait or offer to get more drinks. When the food finally arrived, there was still no apology for the delay. The food was not good. The burgers were dry and the onion rings were covered in way too much oily batter. This made them unpleasant to eat. So despite being really hungry we ended up leaving food. Would definitely not go back.

This place is absolutely outstanding, I have just eaten fajitas that were by far the best I’ve ever eaten on planet earth, service was also excellent and I highly recommend

Family outing, service was poor problems seemed to be coming from the kitchen. Multiple ordered seemed to be wrong or delayed. My burger was nothing special over covered in sauce and the “onion rings” was just plain sloppy onion.

Food was lovely but it took well over an hour to get our food. Some of the front of house staff need to possibly do some customer service training.or get a different job!

Not even Gordon will want to try and save this place! Waited 2 hours for a burito and mucky fries that were cooked from frozen. I watched the orange-bearded guy who I think is supposed to be the cook there and he spent most of his time shuffling the tickets around and chatting to staff instead of making the food.

Best food I've eaten since 2020 when I went to FM for the first time. Amazing service and the music just makes it the perfect restaurant 10/10 would recommend

Lived in Saltash for nearly a year and finally got round to trying this place. Good points... Great atmosphere. Attentive staff. Huge portions, really tasty and reasonably priced. Great drinks selection, again reasonably priced. However, the one bad point was the food took nearly 2 hours to arrive. Luckily we weren't in a rush! The staff were apologetic, but if they knew the food would take that long we should have been informed from the start! Nevertheless, a nice experience 👍 will definitely be returning.

Went in early Weds evening. Waited for around 40 mins plus for main course. When food eventually came out the Chips came out rock hard, and the chilli was Luke warm. Only food that was leaving the kitchen promptly was takeaway orders. Restaurant diners sat waiting for long periods of time, looked around the restaurant which was busy but no one had any food! Really disappointed, would not recommend or return.

Food is amazing!! Great size portions and all so full of freshness and flavour. Service was excellent and a great atmosphere. Can’t wait to come back!

Been here before and the service and food were great. On return visit found that the service has dramatically gotten worse, clueless staff who struggle when more than two tables are occupied or even know what is on their menu. Had to get the staffs attention to place food order after waiting 20 minutes, then wait a further 40 minutes before any food came out. Even then our meals came out separately. To make things more unpleasant, we had to suffer the overly loud conversation from the open kitchen staff about the previous weekend exploits. Even though the food was good, I will never visit again, the staff are incompetent, borderline rude and have apparently no one to provide guidance in running this small business well. If they carry on like this, they will be closed within six months.

100% my favourite place to eat. I visit regularly with a friend and have never had a bad meal. Fab staff, fab food. Just delicious.

Found this by chance as another was shut. Looked at photo's of the menu and had me drawn in. Gorgeous food and reasonably priced for the portion, the apple crumble is a must to try, so different. Absolutely going again tomorrow and any future visits. Very friendly bar staff and chef, enjoyable experience, good selection of music from Ozzy to the The Beatles. Highly recommend, well worth a visit.

After hearing so many great reviews, we were very disappointed with what Foreign Muck was actually like. Knowing that it gets busy, we arrived at 4pm, and there were only two other tables taken at that time. On arrival we were asked if we had any dietary requirements, and as I am gluten intolerant, I was given a separate menu. We placed our order, and mine was for a gluten free burger, described as: Gluten free bap, butter, and burger with hand cut chips. One hour later, I was informed that they had run out of gluten free baps, and was asked if I wanted to change my order or have a lettuce burger. We had already waited an hour and still no sign of the food, so I said I would have the lettuce. When our meal was eventually brought to us, mine looked awful. A slice of browning iceberg over a burger is not a suitable substitute for a gluten free bap with butter. When we asked for a discount because they couldn’t provide the gluten free bap that I had ordered, we were bluntly and indifferently told I had agreed to the lettuce and had eaten the burger so they were not willing to do this. No apology, just complete indifference. If you have run out of something on the menu, surely this should be mentioned at the time of ordering, and not one hour after ordering. Will definitely not be visiting here again, and would not recommend for anyone who is gluten intolerant.

You might want to share your correct opening hours on your website or Google. Twice now we have checked the opening times and twice you have been shut. Love your food but it is not great if people are driving out of their way to visit. Would have gone to Bandits but didn't fancy a toastie!

Officially one of my new favourite places to eat and can't wait to go back. The chimichanga was massive and delicious , the shrimp tacos were an amazing balance of flavours and the bread and butter pudding was chocolatey stodgey goodness. When the bill came I couldn't believe how cheap it was for how good the food quality, portions, service and atmosphere was. Couldn't recommend a better place!

Very good burgers and reasonable price

A hyped up place - good decor but we waited over an hour for greasy food 🤷‍♂️

Very disappointed with today's service as this is the first time my order came out wrong. We waited for food for over an hour while other tables ahead of us recieved their orders before us. When I ordered my buffalo cauliflower sandwich to be substituted with fried chicken, it still came out with cauliflower. I tried to ask for a refund on my sandwich while paying for everything else, but they refused to take it off my order despite not eating it only cutting into what I thought would be chicken. I understand new staff was recently hired and it takes time to properly train them, but today's service has left me extremely dissatisfied.

Simply delicious! We have eaten here twice and both have been great experiences. The service was speedy and friendly and the food was some of the best I’ve eaten. Highly recommend the steak sandwich from the lunch menu and the bruschettas from the evening menu were just incredible! We will definitely be returning, time and time again. Thank you 😊
