I booked via FB messenger - communication was prompt and reassuring. Lovely atmosphere and the fire was burning when we arrived. Hubby ordered the Cullen Skink starter and was very happy with the generous portion and taste. That came in at £9. We eagerly awaited the roast beef dinner. Meat was tasty but very fatty. Only 2 small roast potatoes, small portion of veg, mash containing leek ( why??) 1 shop bought Yorkshire pudding and a very small jug of gravy. To say the least it really didn’t warrant the £19.95 price. Got charged for 2 pints of Diet Coke when the reality was a pint and half. Would have loved to have had the apple crumble but it came with ice cream- no custard. I couldn’t stomach the £10 charge. All in all was disappointed

Ok. Very quiet when we arrived but did get busier. Food was alright. Fish and chips tasty, but salmon dish on main menu a bit too much. Think the leek/potato mash was a step too far. Veg was lovely but mash a bit rich. We ordered another wine and a coffee. Coffee not available as machine broken. We weren't even offered an instant coffee. Bit disappointing for an Inn. Only 2 serving in restaurant and 1 under 18 so if anyone booking in, requiring alcohol, etc. meant only one person serving.

We were only staying for 1 night in Golspie and ate here. The venison sausages were excellent as I do not eat potatoes they gave me lots of extra veg. My friend also had the sticky toffee pudding which she enjoyed and said it was light.

We booked at short notice for an evening meal. The service was great, and the room had a good atmosphere with a wood fire burning. The floor outside the toilets was sticky but didn't smell off. The menu was a lot smaller than the exsmple on the website, probably because it was out of season. Food was hit and miss, but more hit than miss. I had the mince & tattie pie - tasted great but cold in the middle. Chips & gravy were lovely. My OH was impressed by the fish cake and mash, and the sprogs enjoyed the scampi. Pudding spent more time in miss territory. "Chocolate orange" cheesecake missed the first two flavours, but had an exotic cheese. Apple crumble had good apple and stewed crumble. Sticky toffee pudding got a mediocre review.

The best haddock, chips and peas, cooked to order. Friendly, quick service. Popular for a Tuesday lunchtime. Dog friendly. Authentic old Scottish pub and hotel that has not been over modernised.

Staff very good. Young man from South Africa, was very polite and charming. My chair had no support at all in the seat, felt I was going to fall through it. The decor needs a revamp. Food ok,lasagne burnt on the top, from being to long in the microwave. Oven chips and salad from a bag No different from a lot of places now!! Good opportunity to make this place great, but at present,it's ok

The premises are now up for sale. A shame because the location is excellent, very close to Dunrobin Castle and it looks like a big hotel. It would be great if somebody could run this hotel again.

We didnt stay at the inn we stopped for dinner on trip back from John O Groats. I had seafood linguine big mistake................... king scallop extremely over cooked and both them and the crayfish tails tasted of bacon fat. Yuk. Rather than be impolite after 4 mouthfuls....... we asked them to put in a doggy bag. The manager came over and said they wouldnt because didnt want us to reheat seafood. I then asked him politely to remove seafood and I would just take the linguine home, when he asked why I told him the above. Then went to the bathroom............. when I returned he had been to the table said he and the chef had tasted it and it was fine. I must be lying then !!!!! In all fairness the remainder of the food served was satsfactory and my brother and sister in law loved the desserts. This does not however detract from the poor customer service and athough I was polite and didnt complain I was made to feel like I was lying. VERY POOR PRACTICE. I paid 12.95 for something that made me sick (which I didnt cause a fuss about) but I took offence to being made to feel like i was lying. 'the customer is always right'................................... not at this place AVOID

This is no Pub food, this is really good food...Ok it is not that cheap but it is still good value because the food is so good. The venison was perfectly cooked, the scallops delicious. Other meals were equally good, and everyone spoke well of just about everything on the menu. The Inn came under new management (new ownership) in 2010 and there are still reviews on Tripadvisor from 2009 and before - ridiculous - ignore them because the new team are doing a great job and deserve congratulations.

We heeded the tripadvisor reviews and booked dinner here on our way to Orkney. While I agree that the dining room was a bit spare, the addition of a few more diners would cheer it up quite a bit, so try it out. This place, which I understand recently changed hands, has put the emphasis first on where it belongs--the food and the service. We were pleased to find a lot of Scots on the staff, which is getting pretty rare these days. I had the smoked salmon appetizer and, on the waiter's advice, the goat cheese stuffed chicken breast. The salmon melted in my mouth, and the chicken meat was moist and tasty. My husband's haddock was the best we've had in Scotland. They must use a local potato for their sides, the potato balls nearly floated away, they were so light. I was especially relieved to find the food NOT heavily salted, just fresh flavored and well prepared. I just wish I'd left more room for dessert. We shared a Sticky Toffee Pudding, but the melon geletin intrigued me. Excellent value for the money!

We arrived with no reservation and were told there was no room in the bar, but were asked if the dining room would be ok. The bar looked very comfy and atmospheric, while the dining room pretty much non atmospheric, but this quickly made no difference to our dining experience, as the fod and service very quickly made up for this. I have to say that the service we had, at what was a busy evening was absolutely first class, the food was an absolute delight, we were absolutely blown away at how fantastic this wee place was and hope to be back again very soon

We only called in for a drink and check out for lunch the next day. The bar person was really helpful and got us the menus to look over. We returned the next day and were very pleased with our lunch. The person serving meals again could not be more helpful. We would return if travelling north again.

I must say I have travelled to the Highlands on many occasions in the past and became quite used to the normal deep fried scampi/tikka masala fayre. The food at the Golspie Inn is simply tremendous. The produce is fresh, the chef clearly knows what he is doing and the price is reasonable. I was truly speechless when the food arrived. I had the scallops followed by the braised oxtail and my partner had the goats cheese and sirloin steak and we shared a strawberry cheesecake dessert. The portions were good and the flavours were heavenly. It was simply amazing and came in at around £55 including a bottle of house red. You simply can't get fine dining at that vlaue in any other place Scotland. The service was good despite the place being very busy and the staff were attentive and pleasant. I would highly recommend this to anyone coming within a 50 mile radius. You will be glad you made the journey. ps. Try the scallops - perfection on a plate!

They let us get a room at almost 8 pm after our hike went sideways. Room was clean, hot showers, great food.

The service was excellent — very friendly and welcoming. I ordered a chai and a chicken mayo sandwich, and they kindly offered to warm it up, which made it perfectly toasty and delicious. The food overall was very good. The only thing I didn’t enjoy was the chocolate cake, as it was a bit too sweet for my taste. Still, a great experience and I’d definitely come back!

Lovely steaks, very welcoming staff. Great variety of malt whiskies. Lively but not loud atmosphere Highly recommend. Have titled this "hidden gem" as it's not clear from the main road how to get here, well worth it.
