Folk in Bury

I've never had an overwhelmingly positive or negative experience here from the three times I've come, but after this one night I feel inclined to write a review. I don't believe in slamming small businesses, but if a small business treats it's customers with disrespect there are repercussions and kinder businesses to support. I've seen extremely negative reviews about the treatment from staff and via people who have experienced it firsthand. The food and drinks are simply mediocre. However, this particular night the attitude of the bar people was shocking and I'm not sure why it hasn't changed or a conversation has not happened to change this as it appears to be a universal experience. After hearing similar complaints, I believe this review is necessary and justified. Recommend places like Remal and Cuckoo in Prestwich if you're looking for a bar/restraunt that appreciates their customers.

The food is expensive and you don't get much. This place was much better for food when it was first opened. The wine is a good price though! and they have started advertising live music so its probably a good night out if you just want to drink.

We visited for a family meal and really enjoyed the food that we had but were disappointed with the service. The service at the bar was slow and they forgot some of our meals.

Took my daughter and grandaughter for lunch. We ordered a children's ham and cheese sandwich which came uncut and a considerable size as well as the salad and crisps which were listed on the menu which didn't arrive with it. After bringing up the issue with the polite server he then delivered the rest of the meal. When our meals arrived I continued to be dissatisfied as half my daughters meal had to be substituted in the first place. They replaced the hot smoked salmon in the salad for smoked salmon, thinking there wouldn't be much difference as the rest of the salad described sounded delicious. This was not the case, half the ingredients were not present and absolutely no flavour, just a bowl of cold potatoes with a few pieces of salmon thrown on top. There was also elements of my dish missing. Such a shame for such a cozy neighbourhood establishment. The staff are friendly enough but the food is not up to par. The chef should take more effort to put more pride into what he is sending out of the kitchen.

Terrible customer service! The waitress who was serving us just didn’t want to be there. No smile, made us feel like a burden and even slammed down a drink for my daughter. Actually ended up leaving before ordering food as it was that bad. Shame really as the place has got potential.

We were hoping to have a Saturday morning breakfast here as a family (me, my husband and 2 kids), so popped in and stood waiting to be seated. There was knowone on front of house which is fair enough if they were already seeing to other guests, so we waited, and waited, and waited, whilst other staff saw us stood there and just ignored us. Then 2 ladies came in after us, and the same staff who had seen us stood there, proceeded to assist them and lead them to be seated. We were then met by an unfriendly waitress with no apology, and told food would be half an hours wait. We left and sadly based on this experience, are unlikely to return.

I use the word 'Breakfast' and not 'Brunch' as this was truly our Sunday Morning Breakfast. We have been to Folk plenty of times and keep returning, which, says something. Today's visit was as nice as ever. We got there for the doors opening, first customers in. It soon got busy, few big groups started to trickle in. I ordered a Decaf Black Americano. I'm really glad they so Decaf, as, not everywhere does. For food, I got the "Folk Breakfast" which as you can see is packed full of great stuff: Two sausages which is nice, lots of bacon, homemade hash browns and baked beans (be careful with these, they are a little spicy). Poached eggs cooked to perfection. My wife ordered the Aussie favourite Smashed-Avo. It had little bits of Feta and Onion in the smash and served on some great sourdough and again, topped with the most deliciously oozy poached egg!

If you’re running short of petrol or lighter fuel you need to order the Chenin Blanc. Truly awful. It’s not that hard to get it right. Disappointed 😞

This place has so much potential... good venue, pleasant staff, nice drinks, and good menu (on paper)... we’ve been quite a few times since it opened and 3/5 meals are generally good, but the other two occasions poor. Pancakes with bacon and maple syrup the bacon gristle was uncooked - not how it should be. Often have eggs where the yolk is cooked through too. We’ll be back again but the kitchen needs to be addressed.

I've seen the variable reviews here, and have to say I've only ever eaten the breakfast (see photo). I kind of like to come here on a day off and have the breakfast as I think it's the dog's b****cks! Can't fault the ingredients and it keeps me going for the day. We do come here for drinks sometimes during the day and have always found staff to be fairly attentive with service good. For breakfast alone, it's worth the visit.

Have been here twice now, massive potential but the food let’s it down. Tempura was really thick batter and slimy, garlic bread was poor and the chicken skewers were cold. Corn on the cob was delicious. Just need to get the food right and I think it would be a great place

We have visited Folk a few times since it’s opening, a lovely addition to Prestwich. I really wish they would make an effort to put a decent sign up on the front, as this place has so much potential but anyone driving past would easily miss it as it’s barely readable. I can’t help but feeling they are missing a trick here! Last August there was live music accompanying our Sunday roast which was fantastic, I hope that can return soon as it would make this restaurant stand out from the others in the area. The menu isn’t huge but what they do have is done to a great standard. I have tired the steaks and eggs, (excellent but small) and the pancakes being the same, tasty but small. However they have said they don’t have i cakes a couple of times, which makes me think they are just bought in and heated up, rather than homemade. The avocado on toast with eggs is good value for money. There are some improvements which could be made, for example I drove here for breakfast in April as their Instagram stated they were open at 10am. However, they were closed. This was really annoying because it was only 24 hours earlier that they posted their opening times. I rang and messaged them, but it seemed they were quite unorganised. Hopefully this was just teething problems to opening back up. Drinks are always slow, twice we have had our coffee arrive at the same time as our meal, but the staff are happy to bring a fresh hot drink back once requested. Overall a great place for both couples and families, hopefully they can iron out the odd issue and this place will be even more enjoyable.

We planned on meeting for lunch and I knew that Folk had changed the outside area to cover most of it and add heaters. A few places in Prestwich do not have any cover so with the weather not being fantastic we came here. I'm so glad we did! It even rained and we didn't really notice as the cover was good. I think due to the poor or unpredicitable weather it wasn't busy so we managed to get a table, which was good was we worried. The service, as always when we come to Folk was really friendly. I ordered the Smoked Salmon Salad, Gemma ordered the Steak and Eggs and Lucy ordered the Poached Eggs/ Avo on Toast. All very nice. I had never had the Salad before and it was very tasty, I'd highly recommend it.

Lovely place for a glass of wine. Food very ordinary. Good atmosphere. They need to improve the quality of the food.

Amazing visit to Folk today was really busy the staff were rushed of there feet but still very attentive, was served by a young girl with dark hair who was very friendly, drinks took a while but was understandable as was busy we had sunday roast which was lovely. Staff were all complying by the new guidlines and following rules even when customers were being difficult about the girl at the door was being shouted by a family as they didnt have 2 tables outside as it was busy however they followed the rules in a polite way and told them they couldnt sit together. All staff were friendly which is nice as i know its difficult with all the new steps, First time in Folk as new to the area will definatly be here more often.
