FishWorks - Marylebone in City of London, Westminster

To be honest, my last visit was very disappointing but this visit with friends was very good. Fish was fresh and crispy and service as always very good.

Great welcome, and service. Good selection on the menu. well presented and food arrived hot.

Prime location with excellent service. Two courses for £37 was ok but nothing special. Decor unremarkable. Good wine choices.

The restaurant has so much potential, but sadly, the fish was overcooked, which put a damper on an otherwise promising experience.

Had the whole lobster with garlic butter and it was just OK. The brownie was light and airy, and the pistachio ice cream was ok.

The host fit us in, as we hadn't booked. They were busy, so we were very appreciative. Our meal was fabulous. I had the halibut and chips and my husband had the king scallops and tuna fillet for main. All was delicious. The chocolate brownie and ice cream was amazing afterwards. The chocolate ice cream is one of the best we have had anywhere. Will be back xxx

We tried the FishWorks Tasting Platter for two (£90), and it was absolutely worth it. This three-tiered masterpiece was a true showcase of the sea’s best. Starting at the top, the crispy fried fish and samphire were a deliciously light way to kick things off – perfectly seasoned with a satisfying crunch. On the second tier, the grilled fillets of sea bass, wild prawns, scallops, and sea bream were tender and fresh, each one bursting with flavour. You could taste the quality of the seafood with every bite. Finally, the base tier was an indulgent spread of oysters, mussels, clams, Devon crab, and crevettes on ice – all wonderfully fresh and chilled to perfection. The oysters in particular were briny and smooth, a real treat for oyster lovers. Overall, the tasting platter was a generous and well-curated selection that felt worth every penny. FishWorks does seafood beautifully, creating a memorable experience for any seafood lover!

We were really lucky to have found this great fish restaurant. The restaurant is beautifully bright and cosy, the service is courteous without being intrusive and the fish and seafood were excellent

I always enjoy my meals at this restaurant. Benny the fish monger has been a good friend for years and I always feel welcome. Service was very kind and friendly. The Seared Yellow fin tuna was delicious and memorable. It was perfectly cooked just as I had requested it. My only disappointment was the portion size. When I last had lunch at this restaurant a few years ago the dish was a whole tuna steak cooked to perfection. During my latest visit I was served four small slices of tuna which made an already expensive dish all the more expensive. The meal did end on a positive note as the brownie with vanilla ice cream I ordered for dessert was rich and delicious. I always feel well looked after and enjoy my experience at this restaurant but it will have to be an occasional treat in the future.

The fish was delicious, the waiters were very friendly and very welcoming. I recommend!

There moules was delicious & I had delicious seafood pasta & my husband had great mackerel on a bed of chicory (to be honest he wasn’t a fan) but it was it what he ordered but the manager quickly rectify the mistake & it was complimentary after the bill came & it a Wonderful gesture. He could have waited for his order but it would take too long. And the apple & raspberry crumble certainly made up for it. It was delicious ! The service was impeccably & attentive. It was our first time so we will go back. Thank you

So…….. Smoke Salmon starter . Not bad but why serve with toast ?? Had fish from the specials , somewhat dry , uninspired mash and sauce. Service odd , but acceptable. Won’t be rushing back.

The restaurant is clean and light. Specials boards on two walls so no-one has to crane their neck. Service attentive and friendly. We had the Scottish halibut special and the sea bass with carrots and chips, both delicious, accompanied by a very nice bottle of chenin blanc. A really nice meal.

This was my third visit. As always I received a warm welcome and was made to feel at ease, although I was eating alone. My cocktail (limoncello spritz ) was lovely - not dilute as such cocktails often are. I chose Scottish smoked salmon with sourdough as started and traditional bouillabaisse to follow with a side of green vegetables. Everything was delicious. The vegetables have both flavour and bite and the broth was perfectly made using quality fish stock. For desert I chose the apple and raspberry crumble and asked for ice-cream with it rather than custard. It is often disappointing that even good restaurants serve disappointing coffee - not this one!

Very friendly staff , good quality food . We had an early dinner before going to the theatre.

Every time I come to London I visit this restaurant one day for lunch . I travel solo and am always cosseted and fussed over. I had a delicious grilled bream followed by an expresso panne cotta. The later I could done without. It was pure greed. They know fish here and how to cook it.

Really gone downhill Food miserably bad (the black butter sauce with ray wing almost inedibly bad; and with the really thin slices of 'tuna steak' came a sauce that seemed to be soy sauce with extra lashings of salt.

Fantastic fish including the skate wing and Haddock. Beautifully cooked and presented. Nice portion sizes.

This is London’s hidden gem; it’s an unsuspecting fish market at the front m, but inside it’s a nice simplistic atmosphere with the best and freshest fish in London and easily one of the top in the whole UK. I’d order the tarama salata as part of my last meal, along with the sea bass. 5/5

As previously mentioned by others entrance is deceiving even when aware. However once through the shop is the restaurant. We opted for a sharing sea bass cooked in salt, some new potatoes and some bread. Fabulous!

Fishworks on Marylebone High Street is more than a restaurant it's also a fishmonger in it's own right. Benny who heads up the team in the fishmongers is extremely knowledgeable and always points you to the freshest fish, delivered daily from the South Coast and Cornwall. It's also cheaper than the Farmer's market! We're lucky to have this facility as there are not many of them left in London. The restaurant also serves the freshest fish with daily specials and has a broad array of wines to go with the food as well as making fish and chips to take away.

I have been coming here since I moved to Marylebone. It is my favorite part of my day ;). Seeing Ben and the other staff is such a joy. Ben is so knowledgeable and always offers the best fish & filets to perfection. I have learned a lot about cooking various fish from him. There has been some change in people & I am always sad to see mongers go but he always makes sure to hire excellent replacements!

Food was lovely and staff were very nice and patient as my friend was late arriving but we never felt rushed. It’s not a cheap place to eat but the quality is great and quite filling. Overall enjoyed dining at FishWorks and would recommend.

The staff were great. Really attentive and friendly. We had the three tier sharing platter. It was good. Not the best. The fish didn't feel as fresh or as high quality I thought we'd get and the crispy fish was a little too oily. I think if I visited again I'd get something from the main dishes

Don’t be deceived by the exterior and front of restaurant which is a fish market. The best fish and chips. We will definitely be going back here before we leave London.

Don’t be discouraged by the fish market in the entry. Keep walking. Halibut fish and chips are excellent. Too bad we live 4000 miles away.

A disappointing lunch after going on a recommendation. ( If only I had read there reviews before) Let’s get straight to the point the service is not great along with the food. We dinned as a table of 5, starters to be fair were quite good however the mains just didn’t cut it. If you like fish and chips with bones in this is the plaice to go. Steaks were very fatty and if you order a blue steak be warned it might come medium well. The lobsters were also over cooked just like the steaks. Concluding this review I’d say leave it alone however in their defence they might of just got our table completely wrong.

Had sea/fish platter for two. Try as we might were unable to finish and had to take rest home to finish... Excellent oh and the gelato... I would go there just for that...

Service was very good. Good selection of food. The only disappointment was the fish (cod) and chips was mor batter than fish.otherwise could not fault the food.

My daughter and I had a few days in London and were looking for a place to have dinner that had salmon and or bass on the menu with decent healthy sides. We came across Fishworks online and they had availability within an hour so we decided to make a reservation. The place was a little on the small side, though it did not necessarily feel cramped and the service was great. We both opted for the bass with new potatoes and a variety of vegetables, and were not disappointed. The prices were reasonable in comparison to other places, though as a non Londoner, I’ll always think London is an expensive city. Definitely one to go back to if ever in London again.

A wide selection of fresh fish and crustacea, very well cooked and presented with excellent service. If you like fish, FishWorks is highly recommended.

Very attentive knowledgeable staff. Relaxing and casual ambience. We ordered the grilled fish selection, a salad, and green beans. Chocolate brown and the Panna cotta. The wine pairing was excellent. Nice touch having the fish mongers at the front. You can purchase some on the way out.

We’ve been to Fishworks a number of times & it’s usually been good, but yesterday was not. It was busy, the service was slow & the food disappointing. The blacked mackerel, which I’d had previously & was good, so chose again, but this time it wasn't. The other person had the seafood pasta & that was also disappointing. It took ages for the food to arrive. Of the sourdough bread, we had while waiting, the brown was fine, however, one slice of the white was dry. Altogether a less than enjoyable lunch. Based on the above we will not be going again.

Good food, but service was atrocious, felt like we were intruding on the waitress, no warmth and no top of drinks/ask if food was okay/ask if we needed any sauces with our food. I won’t be coming back.

The food at Fishworks is incredibly reliable - really good from appetisers through mains to dessert. The fish soup is excellent, the fish is always super-fresh, everything was delicious. However, three of four guests at our table received their starters over 20 minutes before the fourth person despite asking several times (and the missing starter was only mackerel pate so just needed to be plated, not cooked) - very frustrating. And the restaurant was excessively noisy - not because customers were bing noisy but because there Arte no soft furnishings to baffle the sound making everyone speak increasingly loudly and thereby sending the noise level higher all the time. We have been coming here for years but this time felt let down.

Nice food. No ambiance compared to Covent Garden. No disabled WC!

Excellent meal and service. Probably not quite as nice a facility as the one in Covent Garden but that’s just the restriction of the actual premises. Food was first rate and a thoroughly enjoyable evening. One of the party was a fish eating vegetarian (pescatarian?) and so a wealth of great options. Changed her mind about six times which of course is a real treat compared to more broad restaurant options. Top notch

We came last year and were impressed. Not so this time. Food average, not well presented. Value for money balance is off.

Excellent, high end fish restaurant. Fish cooked perfectly and nice to get good wine by the glass/ smaller carafe as well. Tables nicely spaced and good level of sound so you can hear each other.

We waited about 25 minutes for our table even though our booking was at 8pm. We were not offered a menu or any drinks to have in the meantime whilst waiting. Our server didn’t know the menu, didn’t listen to anything we asked nor did he seem to care we were there. We spent over £300 for the 4 of us but we all work in the hospitality industry and thought this is one of the worst service we have experienced in London. The food is okay but you can get better elsewhere but the service from start to finish was absolutely shocking. Elenna at the desk needs some customer service training and same goes for our waiter.

Second visit and was just as good It certainly won’t be our last visit !

Presentation of a gift Voucher at the payment stage on the night was refused despite having a clear Voucher number. Following numerous emails to Customer Service and receiving their confirmation that the Voucher was VALID - no refund has been forthcoming. Beware of a Company with Very poor Customer Service.

Had a lovely evening with my extended family and the staff were very gracious in indulging our noisy group. Had a blast of a time.

I have eaten at Fishworks on previous occasions, though never in the evening. I found the food not really as delicious (the fish that is) as I had experienced during the day, and the service, even though the restaurant was less than half full, was lax and not at all professional. I realise everyone was doing their best, but in this case the best was not of top notch. I have to say that my prawns were bland, though the halbiut was cooked with expertise. I am something of an "expert" when it come to halibut. Would I come again? Only were the standard to raise itself, for the bill was higher than the quality suggested. EF

Really lovely afternoon. The service was warm and welcoming and put everyone at ease. The food was absolutely delicious! I can’t wait to return.

We always enjoy our visits to Fishworks - the food and the service is excellent. Our visit last night was marred by a very large and very very loud group at the back of the restaurant. The noise was too much - we moved table but the noise still affected our enjoyment. Not the restaurant nor the staff’s fault but such large groups should be more cognisant of the surroundings and tone down their braying and general noise level. The food was a good as ever - generous sized scallops, great sea bass and plaice. Beautifully cooked and perfectly presented.

I ate a very nice bouillabaisse that was well served and already presented. I found the atmosphere very pleasant and reserved. More of a restaurant for couples than groups. Of course, the idea of ​​putting fish and oysters out in the front and preparing them in the back of the restaurant is a great idea. I found it very nice.

Last visited in 2023 and was good. This time food was average tasteless expensive ! Service was good. Sad to see how much it has gone downhill. It only serves fish and in the olden days fish was sublime! We had oven sea bass. It was very dry two rather sad pieces. No hint of olive oil or any seasoning. We ordered chips and spinach. The spinach was overcooked tasteless too.

Been there a few weeks ago and liked it, however, this time was very disappointing. Extremely slow service (1hr to receive our food without an explanation or an apology) and badly behaved staff.

Rude staff, mussels were smelly and spoilt yet no apology and told us it can be eaten but it’s smelly. Horrendous attitude, avoid at all cost. Food is meh

We heard of this place and was a pleasure to try it. My hallibut has no texture like the french fries frozen!!!!! Both like flour and a over price at 29p!!!! Sauce with no taste, flat.... Only expresso and beer were good.Never again. I know as fisherman what fish are.NEVER AGAIN.

Having not visited this restaurant in almost 20. years, I decided to take my husband here on a Saturday night after work. The restaurant did not disappoint my memory of it. Relaxed but refined ....a perfect venue for a calm weekend meal. The food was...as I remembered it . excellent. We started with the smoked haddock croquettes and the fish soup. The croquettes were perfect, straight from the oven, light and flavourful the soup was superb, great flavour and not overly salty. Then for the mains, the grilled fish platter and the mackerel fillets. The platter was exactly the right size for one, the prawns perfectly cooked, the fish delicious. The mackerel was lovely, just slightly too dry for my taste, but still wonderful. Two lovely desserts rounded the evening off perfectly. However one slightly sour note, the waiter made a disparaging comment when the bill was presented. I had booked via an app and was entitled to a 30% food discount and still paid £175 for the well deserved meal. Bittersweet taste on the delivery of the bill, as people should not be embarrassed by taking advantage of discounts offered by the restaurant. But overall, honest simple food, well prepared and well served.
