Fishnets in Gateshead

Just moved into the area so thought I'd give them a try. Lovely traditional and tasty fish and chips. The way they should be. Reasonably priced and decent portion sizes. Definitely my new local as my grandson loves the food and he's well fussy! 😋👍

Having been in the trade myself for 35 years and now retired, I can say this is the best fish and chip shop around 👌🏻 chips are perfectly cooked, good quality cod and the batter nice and crispy, try the homemade fish cakes 👌🏻 the pricing is very competitive, the shop is immaculate and the staff very friendly 5* chippy

Been here a few times before, but tonight's serving means it will be my last. The regular fish at £6 wasn't even a small. Nearly all batter. It's nearest competitors regularly serve fish which is 3x larger (I'm not exaggerating) for the same price. Just sorry I hadn't complained in the shop when I saw it, but it's hard to do that especially when you're not a regular.

Really surprised at the good reviews. Waited an age for fish and chips at teatime. There was a queue of 7 at one point all waiting as orders are cooked on demand. I don't mind on demand usually, or for an unusual item but at peak times it's crazy not to have a handful of cod ready to go. Medium fish and chips were a small by anyone else's standards. Chips were well cooked and not greasy but not very hot. Cod was ok - nice and hot, light batter but tiny. Not the best I've tasted. Prices seemed fair but not compared to what you get for your money.

Never had a bad meal from here,everything is ordered on request,you might have to wait 5/10 minutes but its worth it for your food to be hot and fresh 😋

Whats not to like, fish always fresh, batter crunchy, chips brilliant, I have been going here weekly for years. As every thing is cooked fresh you need to shout in your order as you go through the door before joining the queue.

Have had large fish and chips twice in the last two weeks and it was outstanding! Fresh,beautiful fish. Chips were lush!

We found that the portion sizes are very poor . Our grandsons child’s meal was larger than ours !!! Definitely gone back on standards since last visit. Won’t be back .

I visit here fairly regularly even though it's in the neighbouring village as the local chippy is no where near the quality of this place. The food is always freshly cooked and flavourful. Sometimes there can be quite a wait at busy periods but they do try and take your order as soon as possible to keep that time down. The staff are great too. Definitely the best chippy in the area by a fair way.

Friendly staff who were happy to chat while our food was cooking. Super tasty fish and chips and a perfect portion size too. Definitely worth its high rating and we will be sure to visit again when we are in the area next time. Top tip.... Get the mushy peas as they are just devine poured on the fish! 👍💯😊

Top quality fish and chips. Never greasy and very generous portion sizes - a large cod and chips is enough for two of us. I dread when they close for holidays as there is nowhere local that comes close to their quality.

Always good fish 🐟 and chips 🍟 Friendly staff. The only reason for not giving 5 stars is because they only accept cash, which is a bit of a pain, as these days I carry very little cash.

Great service, extremely clean and particular attention paid to Covid guidelines. A one-way system is in place with clear markers for social distancing. All staff wear face masks covering mouth and noses (not something that some other takeaways adhere to) and there is hand sanitiser in place for all to use. The staff are all very friendly and chatty, creating a warm atmosphere. The best chip shops are reputed to be coastal, but Fishnets break this tradition. The food is cooked fresh and to order. There are some great lunchtime deals, but all the meals are great value for money. The cod and chips I sampled were cooked to perfection, a beautiful golden brown and succulent to taste. I'm generally very fussy when it comes to fish and chips, but Fishnets get a definite thumbs up from me.

You will not find better fish and chips on the planet. I don't like the curry sauce but mother loves it. We have really missed our weekly fish and chips treat on a Saturday throughout lockdown.

Although they have a separate entrance and exit social distancing is compromised with people from behind being called to pay and collect orders and being asked to pay as you order forcing too close contact with other customers in front. The fish and chips are good hence 4 stars but I didn't feel safe so will not return until the virus is no longer the threat it is currently.

Just moved to area, thought I'd try the local chippy (2nd time now) not impressed at at. TINY portion of chips and both times very small fish, served in boxes, which surprisingly dont fit many chips or a good sized fish in. I'll not be going back again, as most other chippys Ive tried you get an abundance of chips and fish almost twice the size. ,They are charging £12 for two fish and chips, STOP BEING SO TIGHT! I'll be going to stargate chippy from now on. Never again.
