Stargate Chippy in Gateshead

Kind of poor today, asked if I could swap some salad instead of chips out of the offer which they used to do and refused therefore charged a lot more. Batter was soggy on underside of fish and waiting time was poor, waited 30 minutes considering I was first in the building at 11am.

Definitely the best chips away from the coast.

I've never had a bad meal from here yet and the lunch time specials are reasonably priced and filling.

Very disappointing this fish shop used to be up there with the best , it has completely went down hill , rude staff full of attitude and a day light robbery , wouldn’t use again and definitely wouldn’t recommend , just so everyone knows

Nice chicken tikka pizzas. They do 50/50 pizzas too. Can’t fault. They say 15 mins? it’s done in 15 mins. Spot on. Every Friday have to pop down for cushty scan

Large fish- little change off £15. Where is this drummed up from? Really, i am someone that doesnt worry about prices as long as its good. Tried this place twice and twice it has disappointed. Really greasy and just fell to bits. Positive the last time i was in a large fish and chips (probably a can of pop) cost me £14 and was shocked. Shops lovely and clean will give them that, staff friendly but just wasnt for me, I honestly must have a chippy once a year and twice this has done enough for me was left disappointed . Since then tried the one in crawcrook (not as appealing from outside) but food is absolutely tremendous. Large fish and chips (ALOT of chips), 1.5L of pop was £12, cant argue with that i’m afraid.

On a Friday lunch time they have a fish bite special 5 large fish bite and chips for £6 fantastic value their fish and chips have ALWAYS been fantastic nice brown chips a light batter 5 star every time my problem it 45 minutes by car to get there....but worth it.

Ordered fish bites and chips, oh and a chicken and mushroom pie, batter on the fish bites was soggy like a wet sock, chips were obviously cooked a few hours ago judging by their cardboard texture and the pie must have been sat there all day as I needed a drink after every bite, it's no wonder I was the only customer while I was there.

Only visited three occasions but on all I've waited over ten minutes, I've decide I'm not keen on the greasy pallet I'm left with and not forgetting the prices. Way to expensive

The shop was nice and clean. The staff were friendly. The portion sizes were decent. The food was tasty and reasonably priced. Free parking on the road outside.

Always high prices with only few good things. Usually takes a while and would recommend calling to order then pick up. Sometimes disappointed with portion sizes. Staff talk quietly so hard to understand.

Had a cheeseburger,£3.50 waste of money ,horrible bad food,looks like a nice family running the place but it was so bad,once slice of cheese on it barley covered half of the burger 1 star and a very upset man

Portions are a lot smaller than they used to be. The new server does your order behind the counter so you're unable to see what you're getting.

We go here every Friday (get the lunches in for the office staff and myself) Specials are great value and the quality of the food is excellent. Great staff who are always friendly.

Batter on the fish was far too thick and undercooked. Chips were ok but quite a few inedible ones. Such a shame as service was really good.

Got fish and chips from here before they got refurbished. Chips were OK but the fish tasted like ammonia had to bin it. Would not come here again.

Went Friday 5 April 2019. Ordered two cod and chips with mushy peas. One haddock. One fish bite children's meal. Batter on all fish wasn't cooked properly. It was crisp outside and soggy underneath. Chips were lovely. Children's meal didn't have the drink in it

Visited and were told wasting enough kebab for everyone, staff didn't seem helpful.

Great food, fish cooked to order and plenty of chips. Undergoing work to extend Oct 2018 but doesn't affect the service.

£3.20 for carton of curry and half the amount of chips you get anywhere else. Had not tried Stargate for a while so thought we would give it a go, absolutely not a chance again, ever. EVER. Feeling fleeced at the very high cost.
