Fish'n'Chick'n in Ipswich

This place has closed down. Food went downhill. It has been replaced by Ravenswood fish and chips which was good quality wise but very expensive. I will have it again but just some fish and chips twice with a couple of cod roe on top was nearly £30.

Went in lunchtime was greeted by a bubbly young lady service was excellent and food very nice . Will definitely be popping back .

Wasnt great just ok. I love proper fish n chips and on that one occasion it didn't go it for me. But normally ok.

Went in tonight after a very hard day, really looking forward to fish & chips. Cannot believe how disappointed we were! My husband ordered jumbo haddock & large chips, which is usually more than ample between us. We halved the fish and my husband got 2 mouthfuls of fish, I got 2 mouthfuls of battered skin. No way was this jumbo size. The chips were like cardboard, no taste and most of them cut too thin, so certainly didn't feel like we had a large portion. The fish was overcooked. I was so cross but my husband wouldn't let me complain. Hate feeling ripped off and we most certainly were. The lady serving us was friendly and helpful. Also seemed dirty, vinegar bottles were dirty and small flies around where we ate.

Asked for large sausage and chips. the girl serving dished up the chips and then realised nothing else was ready. I said i was ok to wait.she said she would wrap chips up while the sausage cooked. That’s was wrong as after 15 minutes waiting they would be cold. She then went the this person who I would guess was the manager who gave us a disgusting look because I had asked for fresh chips when the sausage was cooked !!! If I had looked at someone like that I would expect to be put in my place. Steer clear.

I went to Nelsons Fish and Chips and witnessed some of the worst management I have ever seen in my life. The boss treats his staff with no respect and his behaviour is disgusting. I don’t care how good the food is I would never spend my hard earned cash at Nelsons again purely because of the manager. Shame on him.

We enjoyed a lovely family meal from Nelsons. The food tasted really good. The staff are always friendly and welcoming there and the service is excellent. One of the only chip shops to offer a delivery service and speedy delivery. Thankyou x

Had the lunchtime special! Great tasting fish & chips delivered to my door and still hot! The manager is friendly and approachable and strives to make sure the food is good!

Only went here because chip shop on nacton road was closed..Awful chips cold and large portion was tiny.I won't be going back in a hurry

This used to be one of the best chip shops in Ipswich. I paid a visit after a long day at work to find the worst fish and chips I’ve had in a long time. Cold over cooked chips and fish in soggy batter. Nothing else on offer at 8 pm. Bring back Gary’s fish bar.

Nelson's seem to have really upped their game and sorted out the few earlier problems. I can't help feeling that some people just want to complain and find fault with Nelson's, which is a shame. We find the food and service to be consistently really good. We recently had friends over and ordered our meal with Nelson's for delivery. The fish was great - crispy and succulent, lovely fluffy chips and the burgers were really wonderful! My mate tried and loved the salt & pepper squid - the best he's had he said. And my wife loved the Spicy chicken wings starter and Halloumi main. Thanks guys and keep it up! Will definitely be back fro more :-)

Worst fish and chips takeaway (and the most expensive) we've ever had tonight. The batter was falling off before we even dished it up and the cod was falling to pieces, making us wonder if it had been cooked for long enough. On the other hand the chips were overdone, too brown and mushy. This used to be our first choice when it was Fishnchickn then Garry's, but each time we have tried it as Nelson's this year it has got worse to the point that, sadly, we will no longer visit despite the friendly staff and service.

Went for a meal with some friends and instantly noticed a difference since the new management. Saw our food being made right in front of us! The rotisserie chicken was delicious and the chips were freshly made right there and then.

Had the worst fish and chips ever from here tonight- chips were completely inedible. It use to be fabulous, however we will not be using them again. Fish was okay, but chips were hard dry and disgusting, definitely felt like they had been sitting around for hours. Proprietor blamed poor quality and service on exceptional demand due to maritime festival, however the increasing number of poor reviews on here and the residents Facebook page suggest this is not an isolated one off occurrence.

As an occasional customer, I have to say that since my last 5 star review 11 months ago, my recent experience was not quite so enjoyable. The portions sizes are still very generous, but the fish certainly didn't melt in the mouth (as I would expect with fresh fish) and the chips were limp and chewy. Not sure if the shop has changed hands or if this was just an unfortunate one off experience. Hopefully it's the latter and will proven out when I next return.

I have never in my years seen so bad chips and fish is so watery could be a health hazzard!!!!!! Really expensive really poor

Amazing...food always hot, fresh, great value and very tasty...lots of it too. Staff always friendly and shop always immaculately clean. You won't be dissapointed

We were at a local Scout Camp. I had pre-ordered a delivery for a mid week lunch, but we popped in unannounced one evening a couple of days earlier, and even though the team were busy, they managed to get the 12 meals ready fairly quickly with the minimum of fuss!

Whenever we fancy fish and chips we go here. The staff are very pleasant and we’ve always had a good experience when ordering. Quick and tasty.

We were really looking forward to fish and chips this evening. Very disapointed think they were left over from lunch time. The chips were cold and chewy, the fish was luke warm, hardly any fish under the batter.

Have always used this fish and chip shop in the past but this place has certainly gone down hill since the new owners took over.

Wow this is such a great fresh chip shop. The food was great, cooked to perfection, happy to do the burger toppings just how you like it,and not with burger cheese but real greated cheese. Menu offers great choice, and good value. Staff polite and smiling which goes a long way. The curry sauce,.... well it is the best found in such a long time, it was like the traditional chip shop curry sauce of years gone by, and the right thickness for dunking chips in. All round great place to grab a bite, such a pleasent change and such a clean place.

Went here with my daughter and the food and customer service was brilliant. My daughter got offered a free a lollipop and that made her day. The burger I had was really nice and was made fresh for me. Will defintly be returning :-). 👍

My experience at Nelson's Fish & Chips is really great. The food is delicious giving you generous portions and the service so friendly and efficient. I highly recommend Nelson's.

This chip shop is a joke. We were told it would be a small wait for food when we ordered (around 10 mins) it ended up being 45. Customers were moaning and one gentlemen asked for a refund as he had waited so long and he was refused even though he still hasn't received his food. The manager asked the gentlemen for his receipt and the customer explained that he wasn't given one and he said well you don't have any proof that u have even ordered anything. It was unbelievable. The manager called the police which was very unnecessary. They were taking orders and not cooking the food. We finally received our order after 45 mins and the chips were disgusting. Cold and tasted like old oil. There was just no organisation or leadership. I will not be going back. We only went there because the one on next in road was closed. The nacton fish bar on nacton road is amazing. If you want good fish and chips just go there.

Staffs too busy talking, orders got mixed up, fish burnt, chips dried. It was mid week and the place is not even busy, 20 minutes wait. Got worst with the new management, will not be going back in a hurry.

Have been coming here on a semi regular basis for about 18 months and never been disappointed, even when it changed hands recently. A good range is on offer included deep fried Halloumi, which the owner offered as a taster when we were here a couple of weeks ago, however we usually have cod and chips, the large cod is enormous and the chips portions are very generous. Will keep coming

We tried the halloumi and chips from Nelson's and they were delicious, very generous portions of both which was great. The young woman who served us was very sweet and coped well with a queue (despite one man moaning).

Went with my boyfriend and we ended up sitting in, staff are so lovely and food was so good, didn't have to wait either!! The new shop is so clean, 10/10 recommend

We have been using this fish bar for several years, and usually buy their Haddock. Despite the various changes of names / ownership, their fish and chips continue to be first class.

El pescado y el pollo y patatas es mejor en Ipswich, he estado en bastantes en Ipswich y sinceramente, podemos decir que este es el mejor. Lo prueba. No te vas a otro después de probar.

Really good cod and chips there this Easter weekend, freshly cooked and hot when we got home. Fish and batter were cooked perfectly and the chips were great. I think they may have renamed as Gary's fish bar recently but the friendly staff look identical.
