I'm sorry, but after coming here for years I will not anymore. The chips have been below what I'd consider average for my last 3-4 visits. Mostly batter rather than potato if that makes sense & often just mostly 'scraps' The new chicken goujons that you use are poor. They are half the size of the old ones with much more of the nugget coating rather than chicken Chips & 6 goujons were also £11. Bit of a joke It's a shame because the staff are nice

Just had 3 peice chicken and chips at the new wednesday price of £4.99 which is so much better. Compliments to the chef who cooked the food today was the best chicken and chips ive had in years from there he should train the other chefs. Service was great too. I hope they keep this standard of food up as its the sort of food you look forward to getting from your local chip shop after a hard days work and at a fair price.

First time customer and probably the last time too. Was told meal deal wasn’t on after 4pm although their own board says otherwise (see pic) Order took a while which I don’t mind too much. I repeated my order back to the staff member and was told this was correct as she knew what was on the order. I then got home to find a saveloy was missing but live 20 mins away so not driving back to get it. While I was there other people had items missing from their orders, so I thought by reading it back and confirming all the items that I wouldn’t be one of those people but how wrong was I? A large chips did not feed 2 people and were not cooked well. Overall not a great experience.

5.30pm. Start of an evening shift I would say. Steak and kidney pies were overcooked and so dry it was actually burnt. The top/pie lid could only be broken by putting your knife in the top and using your fist to bang down. Kept too long in the warming cabinet, dried out completely. Should have been thrown away. Chips were greasy and cold. First time there, never again. Pie and chips, by a chippy should be easy to get right. Goodness knows what they do to the fish? I will not give you another try, just on the unlikely chance you will "have a word with the staff" because if thats the way your franchise or employed staff treat the food products they serve, then why shoud I. Re-train them in the what quality of the product should be when served (and know when products should be removed from sale) and let me know when its complete. Then I may give your company another try.

part of our order was missing but I rang them and they sorted it immediately with no argument and a cute apology note. brilliant customer service

Unfortunately this restaurant has started to go down hill for a while. You walk in and there is nothing cooked, the displays have no food ready to buy, even have to wait for chips. So you always waiting for something to be cooked. Chips are so hit and miss. Staff just chill on their phones

Visited last night & was served by 2 lovely ladies, great customer service, very helpful team.

Today we get lunch from fishnchickn. Their service was good . Staff name is Aktar was very good

although service was quick, sadly... the food was awful!! the fish was quite clearly not fresh and had been sitting around for ages causing it to dry out! the chips were bruised and tasteless... some very soggy. I imagine the shop was expecting more customers and trued to cook in advance... I will use these again as it is thr first and only time I have been disappointed.

Food arrived about 10 minutes before the estimated time. Wasn’t an issue. Food was hot and very enjoyable. Would use again

£4.55 for large chips and £1.20 for a buttered roll. Absolute joke Don’t bother, Chips were a regular size and the buttered was rubbish. Such a rip off. *** To the person that replied, you give the same response to all unsatisfied customers but nothing seems to be changing. How about a refund or is this all just lip service.

Unfortunately on this occassion, food came cold. Chips were hard. And we also had portoon of chips missing. Which was sent straight away and was the only fresh hot food we had.

Have been a couple of times this week, unusually. First visit the grill wasn't working, which limited food choice. Staff seemed exasperated. I get it but at the same time, I've been at work all day and don't really want to stand in a place that seems like a toxic workplace? Second visit, wait longer than usual, chips were v greasy. Girl on the counter was rude to a boy who came in for a slushie, no need. V expensive and shop is looking tired in general.

Fish was extremely small and also broken and soggy

Cold, greasy and overpriced. Only use this shop when i dont have a driver to collect from much better fish and chip shops.

Staff were great! Portion sizing however was shocking (noticed most other reviews say the same). Large chips had about 5 more chips than a medium and both in a tiny, tiny little tray. Keep in mind it’s not far off a fiver for a portion of large chips!!! Used to be a relief manager for Harlees in Dorset and definitely not worth the money here. Deffo won’t return.

Decided to try the chicken burger and chips instead of my usual fish,it was absolutely delicious will certainly be having it again. Your food always arrives piping hot which is a real treat.Thank you

Always delivered piping hot very tasty although a bit pricey.Delivery drivers are great and helpful and friendly.

Cod and chips at 12pm so just opened,the chips were greasy and there was about 25 chips absolute rubbish especially for what they charge

Staff are friendly but just seems lacking awareness or training Twice now have ordered online and have come to collect and my order is still on the machine hasn’t been noticed. Then four people have come in and ordered and got their food before me while I’m still waiting over 30min again seems like have been forgotten and there’s no urgency just working in one pace. They get few orders and seems like can’t handle the pressure But credit to the young lady you can see she is trying.

Food was half later than ordered for and the food was like warm at best

Chips were tasty little bit on the soggy side and the chicken drumstick was the juiciest piece the rest of the chicken was drier than than the Sahara desert .

It was the only place open at that hour on a Sunday so I'll give the marks for service, however the food was not good. The fish was such a small portion for a supposed "large". The chips were covered in black bits like the oil was long overdue a change and they were again expensive for the portion. Maybe we're spoiled by the quality of our usual on Nevendon but this was very disappointing and we won't be back.

Absolutely no difference in the size between and large and regular chips! You’d expect generous portions for the price. Also curry sauce was like water.. never seen curry so watery in my life

Been getting fish and chips from here for a long while now, not the cheapest but was worth it until now . The last 3 weeks the large cod has been getting smaller and tonight I would say the large wasn't even the size of a medium so will be going elsewhere from now on.

Just got 3 pieces of southern fried chicken with chips should be £4.99 got charged £5.99 got home straight away in the bin chicken was so dry and coating was burnt looks like it was cooked 2 days ago and rewarmed up chips what a joke probably there was 8 full chips rest was bits ,your lucky I wanted to put zero stars

Nearly £20 for two kids meals and 2 pies NO CHIPS , pies was also basically empty. Asked for chips with pies handed over without and was we asked for pies on thier own ? And if I want chips need to wait another 10 mins and pay more after already waiting 15 . Even though we already asked for them. Really gone downhill. Pies wasn't even eaten they where dry. Empty and luke warm at best

Not the best. Chips were dry and tasted like they were the ends of what was in the heated cupboard. Lots of ends of potato making small sharp chips. Fish was ok but small. Only ate a few chips before disposing

Worst chip shop i’ve ever been to. Beyond terrible service and the battered sausage priced at £2.65, had no batter on it. Nearly £3 for a curry sauce is a joke, absolute shambles and the food is terrible. Don’t go here, to go the Chinese next door. Believe the reviews on this place, they’re true.

Good food, but £10 for medium cod and chips the portion of a very small kids meal. The amount isn’t worth £10 but more like £5.. very tight with their portion sizes

Had the worst chips in my life . They certainly must of been refried from lunch time hard at the corners and mostly uneadable cost of 18 pounds for 2 savaloys and a piece of cod and chips . I understand price's have increased but where is the quality . Dont waste your money go somewhere else .

Got to be the worst fish and chips ever, so called chips luke warm hard dreadful, I didn’t think it was possible to get so many ends and pointed sharp bits in a portion of chips absolutely awful.

Burger was as dry as the Sahara. Paid for gherkins and never got them, paid for bourbon sauce and it was like it came out of their wages, absolute rations. Cheese was like it had been left on the side all week. Chips were ok and there was a generous amount but in all honesty I would avoid.

Click & collect should be renamed "order in advance then wait in line like everyone else". Found it none too cheap, and chips soggy. Deep fried chips should be crispy surely.

Pale chips and soggy batter. Would have been helpful if the restaurant had marked the packaging with which was the cod and which was the haddock.

yes it was a very busy night but pre ordered for collection and then they started cooking it once you got there at the given time to pick it up? the quality of the fish was terrible, very very small portion of chips and even though we said yes to salt and vinegar, the lady behind the counter absolutely smothered it in salt making it taste even worse. wouldn't recommend at all. there are much better close by.

It was my first time ordering I wasn’t expecting fabulous food knowing that the food would have had to be transported etc but I was really surprised! Tasted really fresh, batter was crispy, fish well cook - will defo order again.

Not been in for a while. Was shocked at how much the price had gone up but I was very disappointed on the tiny amount of fish large was tiny and regular was minute. Won’t be rushing back any time soon.

Food is always piping hot and fresh ordered home delivery arrived in 20 minutes cod and chips were lovely you get a good sized amount of food every time

Fish sizes are small so are the chips where we live in canvey Island the portions of chips are very large and so is the fish

I have ordered click and collect several times as this saves waiting around during the covid restrictions. I ordered Thursday for myself and my son and only when the payment had gone through realised the confirmation was for another shop miles away. I had accidentally selected the shop next to the one I wanted from the drop down and this did not show until payment was made. Therefore my money was wasted. I won’t use it again

Just bought 2 large cod, overcooked and extremely dry. 3 cod roe burnt and dry. Large portion of chips which were mostly inedible and the smallest portion I've ever seen. Wont be going back again!!

Stopped on my way home from work to grab savaloy and chips to be greeted with the usual ‘it’ll be a couple of minutes for chips’ (it is a chip shop isn’t it?) after getting home only to find the smallest portion of large chips that I have ever seen. I won’t be going back.

Just paid £4:20 for a large fish finger, for my boy. I was charged an OAP MEAL just for the fish, when a small cod is cheaper and we brought chips separately? Feel pretty ripped off. That on top of this being Wickford’s ‘SMALLEST’ large portion of chips! Complete opposite from Shotgate. Pity, won’t be going to either now.

Very so service. Took about 40 mins from setting foot into the chippy just to get a portion of chips and saveloy. Very expensive and portion sizes are very small. Food can be disgusting sometimes and alright other times

Always top quality food. Chips are never soggy. Also now has a deal with Just Eat for delivery service which is very prompt and not pricey.

Absolutely loved this fish and chip shop! My favourite are the chicken nuggets. They’re fresh chicken, not the reconstituted ones you get in most places, and they make them right there for you with a lovely crispy batter... I’m making myself hungry now....
