Fishery Wharf Cafe in Dacorum

I recently visited the Fishery Wharf Café with my family, and it was a delightful experience. The café is situated right by the canal, offering a lovely and peaceful atmosphere. We enjoyed coffee and brownies, which were absolutely delicious. They also offer a variety of food options, from hearty breakfasts to light lunches, all made with locally sourced ingredients. The staff were incredibly friendly, adding to the warm and welcoming vibe of the place. Afterward, we took a short walk along the canal and were lucky enough to see boats passing through the locks—a real treat! There is convenient but limited parking available, so it’s worth arriving early. Highly recommend it for a relaxing meal or coffee break, followed by a pleasant stroll by the water!

We usually come in the day, the evening fish and pizza menu is fantastic!

Amazing little cafe on the canal - amazing staff and great tasting food - this place has been earmarked for a couple of years and managed to head down the other day and we weren't disappointed that's for sure. Food and coffee were great, they are kid and pet friendly. If you live local you have to try it out if you're passing through defo worth a shout. Will defo be coming more regularly now.

Great cafe on the canal. Nice staff. We love going here for brunch, lunch, and pizza! Squeaky cheese breakfast/brunch with the halloumi and the salads and specials for lunch. The pizza is great and we've had dine-in and take out. Always like ordering the veggie one = yum! 🍕 Last time we went, they were super helpful with the beer choice 🍻

What a wonderful place for an alfresco lunch located on the edge of the Grand Union Canal in Boxmoor. We had the pancakes and bacon, the avocado and halloumi on toast, the fish finger triple deck sandwich, and the cheese and ham croque monsieur. Well worth a visit!!! 😋😋😋

Fabulous food with a great selection of cakes and pastries. Took us 10 mins to figure out that once seated you are on your own. So get your seat and then go order as the counter. Bit weird but the food is worth the visit.

I've always said I must pop in and try this place. Today, I did. We were greeted by a happy go lucky chap who was nice and chatty. All the staff were friendly and happy to help, service was very good and the food and drinks were very nice. The place itself was spot on, rustic charm with an eccentric twist would best describe it, and it works really well. It's definitely worth a visit.

I recently stumbled upon a charming coffee shop that quickly became my go-to spot for a delightful pick-me-up. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the inviting aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the cosy atmosphere of the space. The baristas were friendly and passionate about their craft, ensuring that every cup was brewed to perfection and the breakfast...👌👌👌👌

Great little cafe near the canal. Staff were extremely friendly and funny. Food was fresh and delicious. We got the brunch menu and the poached eggs were oozy and golden yolks.

Very slow service. Coffee was pretty average leaning towards bad. But seems like a nice place to chill on a Saturday morning. Concerts and stuff in the evening. FYI: The toilets are not great. Plastic booths.

Unique and wonderful. Splendid service. Fishery Wharf cafe really is rather special. I was there for a music event. Excellent organisation and presentation of the gig by Alan. If you've not been I strongly recommend you pay a visit

A very quirky place! I always get the waffles and ice cream as it it AMAZING! I highly recommend for anyone wanting to visit to go! They have all sorts of events going on In the evenings.

Saw Furnace Mountain here last night. Absolutely brilliant. Very quirky, terrific place. Has the feel of the 70’s North American coffeehouse scene.

Nice canal-side stop for coffee, with delicious range of cakes and a decent breakfast menu. Good atmosphere and friendly helpful staff. Would be 5 star, but that some prices are a tiny bit above what you'd expect - e.g. £4.60 a mocha - and it's a bit more dog-friendly than I'd ideally like.

Stopped here for a late brunch. It is quite a quirky place. Given the inclement weather, we ate indoors. Staff here were super friendly and chatty. The brunch options were good and we couldn't fault our food or coffees. There is parking here for around 8 cars. The entrance is a little hard to see just over the bridge. Nice place to stroll alongside the canal too.

As fairly regular visitors to Hemel Hempstead, my wife and I often visit the Fishery Wharf Cafe. It's position next to the canal is fab. It also has a very good range of veggie options. It's look is undoubtedly 'shabby chic' but there's nothing shabby about the service. It's a great cafe - what more can I say.

Great place, lots of atmosphere and the food is great. Can be tricky to park if the attached car park is full, but there are spaces in the surrounding residiential streets.

Avo and eggs on toast was very nice. BLT also very good.

We had bloody Mary's and the dogs got a free dog sausage each. Would defo recommend to pop in mid dog walk.

Great live music and 3 course evening meal too. Lovely food and generous portions too. Very welcoming vide made us feel at home immediately. Highly recommended.

We came in for a Friday lunch - there is plenty of seating either inside or out and a full menu and bar. Service was excellent and the sandwiches we ordered were generous in proportion and reasonably priced. Definitely one to try out!

We went to an Open Mic night there and shared a giant burger … good food, good range of drinks, lovely staff and an entertaining evening. We’re going back again soon!

Fabulous independent cafe and music venue

I wasn't aware of the Fishery Wharf Cafe until I was invited along by a friend to play at the Open Mic night (which happens on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month). The open mic is hosted by local legend Shane Lamont and is an absolute blast. If you're a musician you need to get on the board before 7pm in order to be certain of getting a place (typically there are 15 - 20 looking to perform). The cafe is a cozy little place by the canal with a lot of outside seating, and inside seating enough for about maybe 40 people. They have a small menu, mostly burger-oriented. There is a small but well stocked bar. The guy who owns the place is friendly and clearly enjoys his work! I visited in winter but would be quite keen to visit during the summer! Look forward to returning!

This is a real quaint place- no frills, but with a focus on the location, great quality ingredients, excellent/very friendly service. Coffee and food are both sublime- simple but fresh and of real quality.

What a lovely find during a quick visit to Hemel Hempstead. The homemade curry was delicious ( thanks so much to Louise). The cakes are to die for!

My absolute favourite place to go. I take the dogs and it’s the perfect little treat for my weekdays. The hot chocolates are to die for!

Went for lunch on Sunday. Sat inside as weather a bit chilly. Allowed with a clean, well behaved dog. Staff all welcoming, friendly, helpful and chatty. We ordered the ‘special’ pork. A roast dinner. Everything included even apple sauce. Got extra gravy too. The food was excellent. Compliments to the chef. Loved the large mug of tea too. Will definitely go back.

What a lovely little spot. The food was outstanding. We fancied brunch and a coffee afted walking the dog. Very dog friendly place. We had poached eggs, avacado, palma ham and Hallumi on sour dough, and it was superb. I dont nor.ally write reviews but i felt that this is worthy of it. Its off the beaten track but well worth stoping in, we will certainly be going back.

Went here for my sisters 51st birthday breakkie, with 2 big labradors who act like they've never seen other humans when in public so they barked a few times when other people came in etc. Staff could not have been more welcoming, understanding and accommodating. Food was super lush and I would 100% recommend

Very unexpectedly different, and in a nice way!! Quite eclectic in decor but the coffee was amazing, as were the cakes!! Most, if not all dietary needs are catered for, with an amazing outlook onto the Grand Union Canal, quite spectacular!! Somewhere to sit, soak up the ambience and enjoy the scenery. There's a very vibrant, happy vibe here and its infectious, if you're feeling a bit 'at odds' with life, a few minutes here will take care of it!!

A very intimate place to watch any music but to see Albert Lee WOW what a treat

25-Mar-23: Visited for late lunch on a Saturday. The building itself is very basic and rather ramshackled and open to the elements but the food and service was good and it's a very handy location by the canal. The brunch / lunch options are great, and ingredients are high quality. For a casual meal on a warm day, I'd recommend and return.

Nice food, but so expensive. We had brunch here the other week and whilst the service is good and it's a nice atmosphere, the food is far too expensive for what you get. I get that you need to pay for quality, but there are places in St Alban's where the quality is the same or better but the cost is far less. The final straw was being charged £3.95 for a really small square of very average rocky road!

Great place, right in the canal. Can get busy though, freshly cooked food, slight wait, but definitely worth it!

I just love going to this cafe with my dog. Staff is always excellent, food is simple but really good and fair price. And I really enjoy the quirkiness of decorations. Live events are really good too. I think it's one of the true gems in Hemel / Boxmoor

A bit chaotic as I arrived a strange system one is allocated a table then you queue and order. Reclaim your seat and they wobble over with your drinks and food.

Such a great lunch and cake. This place is such a good venture and you can see all the hard work that goes into it. The staff were so happy and friendly. Loved it.

Have visited this establishment several times and always good. Today my partner and I popped down as we live very close, superb flat whites and scrummy salt beef sandwiches, follow by more excellent coffee and a couple of custard tarts, will be visiting more in the future. Thanks to all the attentive and entertaining staff.

This place is amazing. The staff are so friendly and helpful and the food is great. Haven't been there in the evening when they have music but it's really nice for coffee or lunch. Plenty of undercover seating if wet. Thoroughly recommend!!

Always great service and excellent food. I visited here and tried the pizza and garlic bread side which was easily enough to share. I often visit for a cake and coffee which is also very good. Service is always excellent and it is a beautiful calm spot by the canal.

Nice setting, friendly staff , , ordered Bubble, bacon ,poached eggs and garlic mushrooms , it was nicely presented but only one mushroom, at £13.50 it was very expensive for what you got .

Arrived on a hot Sunday morning and all outside seating was taken. We waited a few mins and then were told they had plenty of seating inside and so member of staff took us to our table inside and gave us menus. We then had to go and queue to order which took about 10/15 mins. We ordered brunch and only at this point were told there was an hour wait on hot food. I was appalled that nobody had told us this until now. I told the lady this and she wasn’t apologetic and just said things have changed since we arrived. I very much suspect not as it was just as busy as when we arrived. A member of staff should have also told everyone queuing rather than waiting for them to get to the front. If we’d have know this was the case we would never have sat down let alone queued to order.

Stopped at this beautiful spot for the blues afternoon . The atmosphere is lovely and we sat outside next to the canal in the sunshine . We ordered the plant based burger and fries , just delicious and great value . Such a grest find , we loved it , thank you.

Lovely location, very nice staff. Must say in their defence they were mega busy. How they can turn out food from their tiny kitchen is beyond me. I ordered the salt beef black pudding bubble snd squeek plus 2 poached eggs. The poached eggs were hard and they replaced them without any fuss at all which was good. Overall though it wasn't their finest hour and it did cost £14.00. The bubble and squeek wasnt very crispy, and there was like a corner of salt beef with some melted cheese on it. Just wish I'd chosen something else. So annoying when what everyone else is having looks better than yours. I'm having the giant sausage roll next time, the eggs Ben or the pizza. Now they looked fantastic. Bit of a menu review called for I think. Will definatly go again though

The lovely man who sat us down made such an effort to get us a seat in the sun - had a fab time all staff were lovely!

We love this place! The staff are efficient and friendly, the food is great with a varied choice. The setting is lovely and they even have live music in the evenings. You could almost feel you were somewhere abroad if you were sitting outside on...

We had a late brunch here one Sunday after walking along the canal. We had to wait a bit for our food as the cafe was very full but staff were helpful and attentive. Food was good with a wide variety on the menu.

We very much enjoyed our brunch here. Location is perfect as it sits along the canal. Staff is friendly and quick and happy to accommodate you no matter their young age . Definitely a place worth visiting if in town
