Fish Lounge in Lambeth

Came today and it is closed. Very disappointing.

Lives up to its reputation for top quality fish n chips. Always had a great experience getting takeaway from here and dining in space looks very nice too.

I'm amazed at the price and the portions! Small price large portions! My wife and I shared one order of large cod and regular chips. It was amazing!

We did take out and the food was made quickly and it was delicious, but we were a bit surprised with the very generous portion size so we had to chill afterwards. Would absolutely recommend it.

I can honestly say this is the best fish and chip shop I’ve ever been to in my life, we was working up the road for weeks & this was our go to for food. The owner is well mannered & takes pride in what he does. The quality of the fish and chips is outstanding!!!

Impeccable cod. The lunch menu was a steal. £14.5 for a huge fish with large portions of chips and soda/coffee/tea. Plus side is the staff is so sweet. Thanks for teaching us the high five, low five and baby five. Will return if we stop by London again.

Personally, I don't know how it got rated the most best fish and chip shop. Our cod was very chewy meaning old the chips were old it was a disgusting dinner the only thing good was the plain sausage Went here because they're supposed to be the best but will never be going back again

We had a splendid dinner at this family-owned restaurant. Ebru, the owners' daughter, expertly guided me to choose the haddock, which was amazing and perfectly cooked. Another highlight was the homemade fries, which were delicious. We will definitely return on our next visit to London!

Delicious, super fresh and well-cooked fish, with probably the best batter I've ever tried from any chippy not only in London, but the whole country! I love their rock, really flavourful and flaky. The value is very reasonable too. Boss Gus is friendly, attentive and guaranteed to put a smile on your face, and the rest of his team provide great service too. Glad to see they have recently gotten more recognition in the local papers, it seems business has been booming as a result. Sadly I'm moving away and will really miss not having a Fish Lounge in my new neighbourhood!

Disappointed with the taste of fish was old and not fresh but brittle chips were not tasty a bit overpriced would not come here again.

A small ran family business and I heard that overall is one of the best fish and chips shop in London... So I had to try it for myself. Wow, I was not disappointed. I can say it was the best fish and chips that I have ever had. £17.50...large fish small chips and a can of Coke. I will be going again..

Same guy ran chippy on Bedford Hill in Balham about 15 years back and was always very sarcastic and would mimic me, but fish and chips are and have always been very nice.

I went after the hype of it being the best fish and chips in England and it is the food is banging! Non greasy, fresh, good portions, honestly tastes really good and the team are friendly. I’ll be back, they have a customer forever!

Both the cod and haddock were exquisite. The fish was perfectly cooked with a great texture. I completely understand why this place was voted the best fish and chip shop in the UK. The service is very friendly too. I will definitely return.

Small portions and the chips aren't great. Visited after it was voted #1 and I think the whole thing was a scam. Worst chips I've had from a chippy in a very long time. The fish was dry and clearly frozen as it had almost no taste. I doubt they even use cod, it was bland enough to be pollock.

I was craving for a fish and chips so i checked some reviews of restaurants in my area, then i found the Fish Lounge. I went there, and i was delighted, food was very good and plenty for my stomach (enough to have just a small dinner). I met Gus as well, he is a so pleasant man, gives you nice conversation and makes you feel comfortable until the food is ready. No doubt ill be back.

Fish lounge is, without any doubt, one of the best places to have a proper fish and chips. Delicious food, charming service, huge portions, cozy environment, fair prices… it has everything. If you’re staying nearby you must not miss to come, if you’re not that close… you might definitely think about coming no matter the distance. This is my second time in London and after several visits, I’m sure that I’ll come every time that I come to the city. The owner and all the staff are super friendly and will serve you with a smile and positive vibes. Thank you, Gus, for this delicious meal! And see you next time!

I lived two minutes walk from here for seven years and I had never managed to try Gus's restaurant. The quality of his fish n' chips is very high, the batter of the haddock and the cod was extremely light and perfectly distributed. Gus is an amazing host who knows how to steal a smile from his customers. Highly recommended.

I was charged £5 for a small bowl of salad and £2 for each drink. The price on the board said drinks were £1. When I informed the waiter that legally they are supposed to sell it for the price advertised he started getting emotional and raising his voice. He said it was because he is Italian. I wish I had taken a picture of the board and the bill. I surely would have taken the matter further. Not everyone can handle the truth.

The best fish and chips we've had in a long time! Scampi was amazing, the haddock was perfectly cooked and they're generous on their mushy peas too :) Would highly recommend to any Brixton locals! Owner is lovely too!

I have had the pleasure of eating in the fish lounge for a number of years. For me it is the vibe attitude of the owner. That brings me back and of course the food!

A local shop that serves the best fish and chips in the area. Had a wonderful meal with great service. The fish was delcious and fresh, had to exert self discipline otherwise all the chips would have vanished! Left feeling satisfied and proud of the local talent. Highly recommended.

Been here twice, 3 years apart and I can still say this is the best fish and chips place in all of London! The owner was friendly and welcoming. The fish fresh and chips crispy. Hope to be back in the next 3 years too!

When this place first opened the fish was always "fresh" by which I mean not having been frozen. Unfortunately, the last 4 times over the last few months the fish most definitely seems to have been frozen. The texture of the fish is transformed, for the worse, by being frozen. The chips are still great.

The Fish Lounge (Brixton) is quite simply the place to go for first class Fish and Chips. The owner (Gus) and his family run a spotlessly clean establishment. The staff are superb, polite and friendly which adds to the ambience of the place (no pun intended). Just last night, I bought a large Cod and Regular Chips. When I got home, as usual, I had to cut the Cod in half and put a piece of it on (2) separate plates. Similarly, I divided the (regular) Chips between each plate and both plates were full. Having enjoyed one plate last night, I have now just had the other plate for brunch, before heading into the City for a couple of appointments. To conclude, the Fish Lounge always delivers consistently tasty, well-cooked food. Gus, is always up for a chat about football and/or politics and I like a number of the regulars enjoy the banter. It's also a relaxed, comfortable place for those that want to eat-in. Furthermore, the customers are a friendly bunch, I've often enjoyed conversations with people I'd never met before whilst waiting for an order!!!

Came here in August, food was nice and crispy. The price on the other hand is disgusting. My brother came here to takeaway, we expected to get Battered Sausage, Cod and decently sized portion of Chips for the ten pound he had, instead we got two handful's of Chips and A piece of fish that looked like it got divided by 4.

The BEST fish and chips I've had in years. It seems so hard to find a genuinely good pork savaloy these days and was buzzing to find they did it! Staff are really friendly and the food is amazing. Really impressed.

Not a huge amount of chippies around the area that do decent fish and chips. Not only is this place very affordable, but the cod and chips are high quality and service is very good. I'm here at least once a week and it's always a pleasure to chat away with the boss.

Excellent quality fish! I had the plaice which was very fresh and perfectly cooked. Also, the 'regular' fish and chips were both huge portions. Staff are very friendly.

Smart shop, very friendly service, ok batter, but the cod was not very fresh...., and the chips were ok. nothing special.

Finding a great chip shop can be difficult, especially in overpriced London. This is the one! Food cooked brilliantly & the service was first class. Felt very welcomed and will definitely be back soon.

I've been coming here every week for nearly two years and realised that I still haven't left a review! I always find a chippy near me when I move and out of all the ones I've been to this one tops them all. Come for the fish and chips and stay for the bants with the owner Gus.
