Claylands Fish Bar in Lambeth

I got a portion of cod bites for £4 and a large chips for £3.90. Cod bites were lovely but very very small and thin, one portion is probably equivalent to 1/4 of a fillet of cod. I'd get two if I were to buy again. Chips were fairly standard, maybe a little bit too oil-soaked and not quite as crispy as you'd want them. Overall a very OK offering.

After trying Wicked Fish and being scared for life I had to go back this week the Claylands. It’s the best in the area. Traditional fish and chips! Sooooo goooood! Always support local, they do it best!

This is one of the best fish and chips in London with good prices fish burger is king staff are amazing too recommend to anyone who wants good food.

Really terrific chips! I had a pie and chips, my son had a chicken fillet burger meal. Both were delicious. We will definitely be using this Fish Bar again before we go to the cricket at the Oval! Half the price of the Oval venue offering and twice as good! Keep up the quality frying guys!

Complete rip off, over charged then tried to not hand over whole order , had to repeat the order 3 times before they got it right. Other chip shops locally that are far better.

Good honest food in mouth grub. Can't go wrong here, nice authentic chipper. Feel like I'd get to know the owner here quick.

It's been almost 10 years since I was here last, was in the UK for our honeymoon and we started close by, but still think of the amazing fish and chips we got from here

Used to come regularly, but now the quantity is really poor, ordered medium fish and chips, the amount of chips was dismal and quality of the fish was poor, so disappointing as it used to be a really good chippie.

I live in Italy. Was gaggin for a fish supper traditional style. Finger lickin good. Cod and chips, five pounds 50p. Superb. One or two hot runners called into pick up their dinner. There's a lot to admire in Claylands Road.

These guys know their stuff, come here regularly, they’re friendly and efficient.

Just arrived from The States. Picked this little spot around the corner from our Airbnb. The 2 gentlemen running the store were so pleasant and helpful and the food was great. Ate outside at the picnic tables. Perfect to soak up the atmosphere of this delightful neighborhood. Just what we needed. Will grab a bite again before we leave!

The fish was over cooked clearly been cooked for a while the batter was like rubber , fish was dry absolutely horrible… chips were like left over bits sorry it was horrible never again …. I now have an upset tummy …..

AVOID! Disappointing the chips was not even a proper portion were and got whatever was left as they couldn’t be bothered to cook more, my curry sauce was jelly and the sausage and batter was overcooked.

Very poor quality food, chips are full of bruises and sprouts popping out. The service inside was poor as the guy asked me a question then decided to talk to his colleague instead of get my reply, I paid in cash and he didn’t have the change and told me he will owe me for next time even though I have never been there before and have no intention of returning

One of the greatest fish and chip shops in London. Perfect chips. Excellent batter. A brilliant, friendly team that are a credit to the business and make it the heart of our neighborhood.

Only cod available when we entered. Not a fan so went for pie & chips. Decent sized portion of chips. There are some tables outside so we ate our takeaway.

Accueil parfait, préparation sur place devant nous. Ils sont super sympa et les burgers sont très bon. Ils sont très bien servis, un bon rapport qualité-prix.

Had fond memories of this place and decided to try them out since was back in the area, big mistake!! Chips were a really dark colour, tasted stale and over crunchy as if they were fried a few times. Sausage was shrivelled and dry. Not sure but think paid about £4 for large chips and portion was small but ultimately didn’t matter as kids didn’t like them. Very disappointed and probably won’t go back

Very good Quality Fish and Chips . The Fish is cooked Fresh never left long in cabinet as demand is high , the Chips are Fresh Potatoes cut large and are more tasty full of flavour. NoFrozen chips like other shops have that have no flavour, the shop is not a Resturant and orders can be placed by phone or Uber Eats and others etc,not open Sundays ,you can park outside and there is no wheel chair access but can order from outside shop, hope this helps others ,nice people can be busy due to popularity and quality

On the fence on wether to give this 5 or 4 however i went for 4 as i didn't feel appealed enough to give 5. Fish is very nice and freshly fried, chips are lovely and all for a relatively central located store on a little side street off Oval. I am pleased, would recommend and will be back.

This used to be my go to chip shop even though there closer to Kennington and I’m in Clapham. They used cardboard boxes to deliver in and both their fish and chips were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside . Perfect for me . However, they since they changed to paper wrappers and polystyrene boxes their chips and fish have become soggy and unappealing. Totally disappointing. They’ve lost their edge and what made them my go to chippy ! They’re also really lax about what they advertise and what they have on sale on Just Eat . They’re missing loads of opportunity to sell and I’d say aren’t very astute businessmen because they aren’t using the app to its fullest potential. Someone needs to wake up at this chippy and start sharpening their business skills . But, if you want limp chips and fish , go ahead and order their sweaty dishes .

We were lucky to found this place. Tony became friend immediately🙂 everything very fresh and tasty. Mashed pies, picles...everyting perfect...for those ordering first time...start with small portions...fish is huge, chips are extremly huge...just idea...😉

Good cod and pie. But i didn't expect to get the pie still in its wrapper like it was bought from sainsburys and passed on to me, didn't feel good about the pie

First and by no means last visit. I live around the corner and never took the extra 20m walk down a side street to try, but I’m very glad I did tonight. The best fish and chips I’ve had in London (+ curry sauce) I’ve decided that this place is now my regular, and my eyes are on the future 👀

Really a 3.5 star rating. Tucked away off the main drag and round the corner from Oval Station. Surprised as a chip shop that they don't do buttered roll. (strange). But don't want to rate them for what that don't do, but focus on what they do. Oblong shaped chips, not bad at all, suggest give them a go

This is our fav local fish and chips shop. We have been ordering our fish and chips here for over 4 years and have never once been let down by the quality. The fish is always fresh and the chips fluffy on the inside and crisp on the outside as they should be. The only draw back is the que when it's peak times .....but this is only further indication that the food is worth a short wait.

chips are not as good as they used to be. cook chicken burger in same fat as they cook the fish . place gone down hill lately. don't answer the phone when you ring up to order food so you have a long wait

We go in here every Saturday nite and food is cooked fresh to order. They do a meal deal which is good as it includes a drink. Staff are friendly and polite . Chicken burgers are really nice and it's fresh chicken you get .

Siempre vamos allí. Ha sido cerrada por un tiempo debido de poner nueva Freidoras . etc. Patatas fritas son mucho mejor ahora abs me encanta el pollo hamburguesas. Están recién cocinada. Luego de nuevo la mayoría de la comida es fresco. No hay orden es demasiado problema para ellos. Conseguí una nueva chica en cuidado ella es muy lenta mostrador con la comida. Así que prueba esta tienda mejor fish and chips por kennington.

Great Fishshop that does lovely chips. It's a local of mine and I've never been disappointed. Saying that I don't venture to far from the traditional fish, chips and mushy peas. Portions are good size and the quality is spot on. They don't keep much in the warmers so there is often a couple of minutes wait but in my mind that's a good thing as you don't get that 'sodden with grease' batter that comes from it hanging around too long.

Our regular haunt for £6.30 a head fish and chips when we are at the Oval. Excellent value, even too many chips for me, but my mate helped out! Be prepared to eat sitting on a step near the main road and consider it to be character building☺

We go there every Saturday now and we always get food freshly cooked. Chicken burger is the best cooked fresh when you order it. Fish is great too. Love the cod roe from here they cook it when you order it do none of the food is left in the heater in the shop.

Been going to this fishbar for ages now. They will cook what you want to eat. Friendly staff. Clean . Love the chicken burger from here ( they cook it fresh and it's real chicken). Saveloy are tasty too. Give it a try .

Coming from NZ having English fish n' chips from Claylands was an experience I enjoyed. Friendly staff that never wrote down my order yet never missed up my order, everything was individually wrapped, later learnt this was to prevent cross contamination not something I was worried about but good they take this precaution. Not a huge menu altho this may just traditional British menu but with five different types fish to choose from and different sizes better than the choice of one type and one size here in NZ. Thanks to the staff at Claylands for the meals during our brief time in London

As someone who prefers plaice above all other fish, I am delighted that Claylands will cook it for me from scratch in around 10 minutes. Well done boys!

This chippy, which does not have seating, is good. It's not superb, but I certainly have no complaints and use it on a semi-regular basis. The prices are reasonable, the food is fresh, and the men who run it are friendly and efficient. How would I improve it? I'd use lard to cook the chips and improve the quality of some of the non-fish related cooked products (burgers, chicken, sausages etc) which they sell there. There's nothing wrong with these really, I just prefer the better quality ones.

This place has gone downhill hugely over the years - now it's overpriced, and the chips are soggy and unpleasant - avoid it!

This is a takeaway spot. No area to eat, but if you are craving fish and chips at a good value, then I would gladly choose this spot again. On Tuesdays, it's free free small chips. You don't need to upgrade the chips because it's huge. They are freshly made and we even saw a guy in the back with 2 huge garbage size bins filled with water and potatoes. One side was unpeeled and the other bin was for the peeled potatoes. He was fast and made it look great since we knew the potatoes were fresh. The large cod is basically an entire fish (realistically half), but also very big. It was tasty, crispy even though we ate it after 20 min of walking in the cold and it very well cooked. My only wish was this place would have somewhere to enjoy the food fresh because the bag and the fries were a bit greasy. Had it been just 10 min longer, everything probably would have been soggy. I would come back.
