Excellent wine and food pairing with great service. This small restaurant has a coffee shop attached. Their food is always based on fresh local ingredients and is prepared and served in a fresh contemporary style. The black pudding fried meatballs were fantastic and the scallops were large and well sauced

We had a great trip here for lunch with the family. The kids had super quality fish and chips. There were more interesting fish options on the menu for the grown ups. The staff were very warm and hospitable. The prices were very reasonable. I’d definitely go back.

Totally empty restaurant in a long weekend... dedicated to fish... no good news... but as it was late and it is far from other places we tried... the mussels had sand so not good clean and the sewin had a bad taste... taste of not being fresh... a total pity. I hope they improve rapidly to avoid not having guests... last night we were the only ones.

A friend recommended that we drop in to Fish & Field after a walk in Roath Park. I’m so glad we did! The staff were really friendly and we could see the chef as he was happily working away. The decor is a bit quirky which gives it a fun but comfortable feel. We ordered some tapas and although not all of it was what I’d expect (ie Spanish) it was really delicious. We also ordered the ‘proper fat chips’ which were amazing!! A really enjoyable and relaxing lunch. Would recommend and I’ll definitely be going again.

We were a group of 4, with one seriously ill friend who could eat hardly anything. We visited on a rugby international day. The caring, concerned and courteous attitude was amazing. Once again enjoyed a family meal at Fish and Field. We have been here several times and always enjoy the relaxed surroundings, informative and helpful staff and lovely, hot, tasty food. Some of the older members of our group had special requests, these were sorted out with a smile and reassurance, what a difference to the usual huffing and puffing of some places! The variety of fresh fish on offer is always good and the quality of the steak as always was superb! The cooking as always was excellent; tasty, interesting and enjoyable .A friendly, relaxed place to eat with delicious food and good quality wine. What more could you ask for ! We shall be back again.

An excellent planned family get together, following a previously also excellent experience . I had raved about the venue to my family, and it was great to revisit the brilliant menu. We were pleased with the superior standard of cuisine. Equally, the wonderful ambience which in much, was attributable to the highly personalised attention and super friendly service.100 percent detail to customer satisfaction and enjoyment, and that extra mile in terms of conversation and humour. The best service and food we've experienced in Cardiff for a long time.!! It was also great to have wines that perfectly complimented our meals. Our thanks to Everyone, can't wait to visit again. Highly recommend, tucked away, but a great find!

We've often had a coffee here but decided to come for lunch with the family We arrived at 2pm, plenty of empty tables to asked if we had a reservation as they were short staffed, not an auspicious start! The host was slightly aloof but we got there in the end. Now, the food, mussels were excellent the fish and chips great batter and good portion of fries the roast beef could of been better the rump steak was not a rump steak rather a minute steak and at £16 overpriced Simon the waiter as always superb I really don't expect a mop and bucket to be carted through the dining area to clean the toilets during service! A few tweaks and this could be great until then we'll still for coffee but think twice about dining

We stumbled across this restaurant after going to Chepstow races, on our way back in to Cardiff, well it was one of the fish restaurants i have been to for a long time. We were welcomed with comfy armchairs to browse the menu and the specials board, the waiter took our drinks order and left us to choose. After about 5 minutes he returned with drinks and took our orders, 15 minutes later we were shown to our table where there was fresh bread and butter, the food arrived with hot plates and finger bowls delicious, we have been back twice since, all excellent experiences.

The service was really great, very attentive, and friendly. I ordered a beef kofta kebab, which was lovely, but overpriced at nearly £7, and a fillet of sewin, which I was absolutely delighted to see on the menu as I am able to eat it so rarely, and it's my favourite fish. The sewin arrived, but wasn't a fillet - it was a slice across the fish, and, very sadly, was a little overcooked. Not much, but enough that it was slightly dry. Again, a bit overpriced at £16. A filllet would have been worth £16, a steak/slice wasn't. Dessert - a creme brulee, which was very good. Drinks - a soda water with a splash of lime (my fault for not being specific, I was expecting a slice of lime, not lime cordial) but I thought this was very overpriced at £1.50. And I also thought my wine was overpriced at £7 a glass for a pretty ordinary red wine. I would come back again, but feel the restaurant isn't quite living up to the prices on the menu.

Hubby and I made it to the lunch service and was suitably impressed - the celeriac and apple soup was gorgeous, as was the parmaham salad starter with truffles. The mains were delicious and we were so impressed with the quality and portion of meat... this enticed us to go beyond the lunch menu for dessert (gorgeous dessert wine and cherry parfait) - a big thank you to Chef Ross Williams and Chef Gareth Farr... long story short we have been speaking praise of our lunch to our foodie friends and will certainly book again in the future for bigger events (graduation, birthdays etc - we did have a look at the dinner menu and am intrigued) later on this year for sure!

We ended up by chance. We were very lucky as this is an excellent place where to dine in Cardiff. The owner was very kind and did all the possible to feel at ease. We had three typical fish and chips and I finally understood how this very British dish should be prepared. The dessert was a chocolate brownie that was delicious too. I really enjoyed the beer. Prices are similar or even lower than those of other good restaurants in Europe.

Visited the coffee shop initially, but then decided to move a few tables into the restaurant for some food. We were early enough for the set menu, and can honestly say we weren't disappointed. Soup was lovely as was the chicken dish. Partner had salmon salad to start followed by a fish Nage. Everything was clearly fresh, and seasoned well. No faults at all with the food. Surroundings are nice and relaxed, and one cup of coffee I'm sure could easily turn into two. The coffee area is dog friendly, and whilst I have no problem personally, my partner can get a bit sniffly around them. However, in fairness the dogs are usually kept around the entrance to the coffee shop so shouldn't pose a real problem for anyone....unless of course they moan for the sake of moaning!! This is a great place for everyone and we'll definitely be calling back.

What can I say. Great food from great people.Welsh produce cooked to perfection and I don't say that lightly. I am fussy. The food served HOT on a hot plate not a piece of wood or slate. Cooked beautifully and full of flavor. Great stake and stunning fish. Be polite and show the respect the staff show you and they will do their very best to help and look after you. From the coffee shop the moves and blends perfectly in to a relaxed restaurant. This gives you a great soft chairs and sofas to have a coffee or pre-dinner drink before being shown to your table. Great for that first relaxed date with out feeling like you need to know more about the wine and menu than the staff but with quality that will leave you wanting more. Perfect portion sizes that will still leave you needing a little break before dessert. So after your relaxed, romantic and fun dinner go back for breakfast. Trust me it's one of the best breakfasts I've had. Hope you enjoy and maybe see you there as I will be going back time and time again.

All very convivial...all very reasonable..... and the chef was very professional. Easy parking. This place could develop into a real gem...visit it and give a good review...local independent restaurants need this support. The name is catchy 'Fish & Field'. First visit to the restaurant after hearing about their chefs and their great reputation. The place itself looks great, cosy bar area to have a pre dinner drink and rustic, relaxed atmosphere. The service was excellent and good humoured. Menu is varied with particularly nice starters and desserts. We had a few dishes from ribeye steak (which was reportedly very well cooked and of great quality) to cod on crushed potatoes. The timing between courses was spot on, allowing enough space to enjoy a drink and a chat. All in all we had an enjoyable evening for a reasonable price and would recommend as a place for a nice steak and chips on a weekend evening. Thank you.

Visited recently haven driven past on many occasions and keen to see what was on offer. It's been done up nicely inside with the restaurant on one end and a cafe 'field of beans' taking up the other end.The main courses we had (seabass and cod) were nice but the portions were a little mean for the high prices charged (fish mains were around the £20 mark with steaks costing more once you added £3 on for a sauce). Cardiff has a decent amount of places to eat these days and although we want to support independent restaurants on evidence of our recent visit we're unlikely to return anytime soon.

We have had two visits here, the first was when the restaurant had not long been open and it was nice food but a bit pricey. We gave it another go for lunch recently and I had prawn mango & corriander salad at £9.95. It was very nice but it was a small side salad rather than a bowl of salad that I was expecting for nearly a tenner. My husband had mussels & chips that again was tasty but so small for the same £9.95. They do good coffee there too but it seems like the place is having an identity crisis.....is it a coffee shop, restaurant or icecream parlour?!

Popped in a few weeks ago for a light lunch to check it out! Fabulous goats cheese and beetroot salad. Decided to give it a go for a Christmas get together and we weren't disappointed. Nicely laid out with more formal dining area to the rear and casual coffee shop up front give it real character. Background music was faint so we could hear each other speaking. A challenge in itself as the average age of the group was approximately 70! We ate from the Christmas menu and I had the Parma ham salad, others had salmon or mushroom soup, all absolutely delicious. For main we had Turkey and others had sea Bass both lovely and cooked to perfection, although I should have checked the vegetable accompaniments as the al dente sugar snap peas were a challenge to those with dentures and a softer choice would have been easier. Dessert was divine a stunning Panacotte with Bailies and boozy berries. Warm brownie and ice cream also a delightful choice. And for the lady who was full, they packed up a Christmas pudding and sauce for her to take home for tea. The chefs were great and the front of house staff incredibly helpful and pleasant. Thanks for great food, if this place was in town centre it would be packed out! Location lets it down, but hopefully that won't put people off trying it out!

All I can say is Wow! Hospitality, presentation and taste was awesome- I don't understand why the place was not full. The only thing I could say negatively about our experience was the missis's ice cream had frost and had ice in it, but that was the only thing not made by the chef so I blame the freezer and 'Kellys' for this. I would recommend going there to friends and will revisit. Meal sizes are not as large as big chain restaurants so id have a starter with the main. Lush food, worth a visit!!!

Although we were just 5-minutes past the 7pm deadline, by the time we came to order, for a set 2-course meal they graciously agreed allowed it. From the few options available we had Garlic Mushrooms to start and Pork Loin as a main course. Everything was okay [just okay] I couldn't tell if the mushrooms were out of a tin or fresh because they were cut into very small chunks - served with small pieces of bread. The main course consisted of a portion of potato mash, Mange Tout and the pieces of pork loin in a sauce. While we were in the restaurant about another 6 or 8 guests arrived. It certainly wasn't buzzing! The coffee bar which is openly attatched to the restaurant was open and an owner had a barking dog with them...

This place used to be an Italian restaurant called Scalinis which had a very good reputation but personally I found a bit old fashioned, although the food to be fair was pretty good.Since the owners retired the place has had a complete makeover; interesting decor and touches throughout, unstuffy, vibrant even - with the addition of the cafe area at the front attracting quite a bit of custom while we were there - but not in a way that was obtrusive. Staff were welcoming and quite informal; the emphasis seems to be on providing high quality food, elegantly presented but avoiding the pretentiousness that sometimes goes with it.Two course Sunday lunch was £17.50 with some interesting choices; full menu was also available. We ended up spending around £260 between 9 of us including drinks, coffees & a couple of puddings. Afterwards we rounded off with a stroll through the gardens of the adjacent Roath Park.Around halfway through the meal I had already concluded that this place was set to become a regular venue for us. Looking forward to finding an excuse to return, won't be long..

This was our first visit so were a little concerned that there was only one other couple in the restaurant. The coffee shop was busy however which added atmosphere. We were initially shown a table in the corner which we would have preferred but we couldn't sit there as some redecorating works on going. After this slightly shaky start we were shown the specials menu and told the soup of the day, also immediately offered tap water without having to ask which is a major plus. Things just got better from here, menu was great, including a sensible number of options instead of a never-ending list. All looked delicious. Hubby had soup, I had scallops. Both very good. Highlight was the mains, two rare (and they were rare for a change) ribeye steaks with proper overcooked chips. We are greedy so extra portion of chips ordered which turned up very quickly. Really excellent food, our only wish would have been for some more salad (came with lambs lettuce) or some veg. Dessert, as we were pushing the boat out, was a lovely cheese board that actually had enough crackers and for me two scoops of good quality ice cream. Wine list was more than adequate, lots of choice and we really enjoyed our Rioja. Another major bonus was no music! So we could actually have a chat. Bliss. We spent a bit as it was a special occasion but it is possible to eat very well and for a reasonable cost if you take up the lunchtime offer. We will be back for dinner soon to see how that goes. All in all would highly recommend.

Fish and Field the restaurant has been open for a while and has good ratings although I have never actually been (shame on me). Over the last few months a coffee shop has been added to the front of the restaurant. The location is ideal - just on the edge of Roath Park so a good excuse for a refuel if you've been for a walk round the park, around Cathays Cemetery or just fancy a good coffee. The coffee is, indeed, very good. There are plenty of pastries and snacks to choose from and there's also a menu for a light lunch including soup etc and it all looks very tasty. The only reason I have not returned thus far was due to the lady serving. She didn't have a smile on her face when serving us (fair enough, we all have bad days) and then, when she did bring us the coffee ended up telling us about her divorce and the need for her to spend money on expensive items to get a good settlement! Completely inappropriate; yes, life's a challenge but I'm not sure I necessarily want to hear about it from someone I've never met before when I just wanted a coffee! I really want to go back but when we passed today we noticed the lady was on duty so, I have to confess, we walked on to another establishment. Sorry, the coffee's good and I'm hopeful and optimistic I just visited on the wrong day. I will return.

HE was clearly passionate about quality of food. I had smoked salmon for strters which was delicious. There was one steak and one fish main, both were cooked well, and the steak was juicy and tender. The only thing which was a shame was how quiet it was. We were there on a Friday evening mid November and there were only us two, plus another couple and a single diner. Hopefully this was just a lull before Christmas as they have invested heavily in a remodel so it would be great to see them being successful. We will definitely visit again

Very nice restaurant. Great food, excellent service. Quality atmosphere and excellent job renovating the place. Is obvious that these guys care greatly about providing a great experience and quality food. Had a good chat with the proprietor and he was only too happy to spend time to develop a relationship with us, recommend thumbs from the menu and talk about the business. Good job guys.

Very good food with friendly staff. However, rather pricey for Wales I think, and not even in the centre of Cardiff. The lunch menu seems better value for money than the dinner menu.

We hadn't known that here had changed hands until last week. We live up the road and had thought it had just had a rebrand. My friend thoroughly enjoyed the soup and her husband and I the cheese on toast; this was quite delicious. We'll definitely be back to use the cafe part and have booked for dinner in the restaurant later this month.

Visited on a Friday night and was surprised to see the place so empty given the quality of the food. I had moules to start which were fresh, tasty and big. The bread was used to mop up the white wine/cream sauce by everyone on the table. Unfortunately the restaurants supplier had let them down so there was no venison to be had. Instead I opted for the sea bass which was superb, the skin could have been crispier and the buerre noisette was spot on. The fat, fluffy, crispy chips were soon substituted for the new potatoes! A banana tart was shared for dessert which was unusual to see on the menu but a nice ending to the meal. The waitress was very unconfident but this will no doubt be resolved over time. I can imagine the place getting quite noisy when busy but shouldn't deter you from some great fresh food.

We chose Fish and Field for a birthday celebration meal. The welcome was warm and the place had a lovely bubbly atmosphere. While the menu offers a variety of meat and fish options, the choice of fish dishes was too tempting to miss. So, we ordered fish for starter and main course. The smoked salmon with Limoncello was very delicate. Mains were excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed my wild Gower sea bass. A lovely evening and a refreshing addition to the area. This new venture deserves to succeed. We will return.

Came here for an evening meal and had the moules, parfait and scallops to start, all of which were absolutely amazing. The portion sizes were great. There was so much parfait I had to order another portion of bread. There was no toast or anything with the parfait so just used the bread for the table which was fine. Next course we had calamari, seabass and the lemon sole, again all of which were just yummy. The lemon sole was so lovely and buttery and had been cooked to perfection. The fat chips are a must. The only thing that was a bit off was that it seemed like it was the first night for the waitress as she kept leaning over the table to serve us from the other side rather than coming around to us which was very awkward. All in all though a very nice meal and would definitely come back here. It was very quiet for a Friday night so please make sure you get there soon. Restaurants in this location never seem to do very well for whatever reason and it would be a shame to see this one go.

When you have kids, sometimes Wednesday night has to become your 'date night' (spoiler alert: this is a review by a parent, not strictly for parents!). We went down to F&F to live up a childless night. And a good job we did. A specials menu with more fish and meat than you could shake a Cardiff stick at. Halibut, wild bass, turbot, Dover sole, proper cod steaks and more - a fish lovers nirvana! I went for the turbot, as you do. The Mrs went steak. We were both delighted with what we gladly hoovered up like Ronald McD having a night away from the nuggets. A place like this needs to be supported, it must be so expensive to offer such a wide and well thought out range of produce on the menu. Especially when the boys running the place know how to treat the produce with such care and respect . The wine selection was interesting and indicated that the owners go for what's good rather than what's widely available. Can't wait to get down there again (half term is fast approaching!).

I was warmly welcomed Ross who found me a seat and I had a glass of wine in my hand in seconds. We were part of a large Party but service was so I good I felt I was the only one dinning.I had great Pan Fried scallops juicy with tangy Gazpacho dressing, just the right sized portion. My palate was prepared and ready for the main act. The curtain went up and my little Gastronomic audience applauded as I took the first bite of my Venison Sirloin. I thanked the other chef Gareth and really enjoyed the whole experience. Looking forward to my next visit

Wasn't sure what to expect when booking as its a newly opened restaurant (about 3 months at time of writing this review, which i didnt know until i asked the waitress) but booked purely on trip advisor recommendations for steak houses in cardiff. When i arrived outside the restaurant it didnt strike me as anything special as its a fairly old building and probably in need of a spruce up. But don't let that deter you as when you walk in theres a nice atmosphere and a very friendly welcome from staff. I was immediately shown to the bar and had a drink while waiting for the other people in my group to arrive. When we had all arrived we were shown the menus which were nicely set out and there seemed to be a good selection of food available. I had come especially for the steak so ordered the rib-eye and it was absolutely gorgeous. I order medium-rare and it was cooked to perfection, very tender and lovely taste - the blue cheese sauce was a good accompaniment as well (not a lot of restaurants do a blue cheese sauce).Steak was reasonably priced (£20 for a rib-eye) drinks were a little bit pricey (£3.50 for a bottle of beer) but that probably not out of keeping with other restaurants in Cardiff, although this isn't city centre and the fact that the restaurant was around 2/3's full at best on a Friday evening probably reflects that. Although that could be because its fairly new and it certainly didn't detract from the atmosphere. There a lovely fish tank at one end of the room which was a pleasant feature and the staff were great the whole evening. Our waitress was very polite and happy and very helpful, certainly gave the impression that she was happy to be there and that makes a lot of difference, as some places you go its almost as if you are an inconvenience to them. Not so here all of the staff were friendly and made us feel very welcome. On the whole i'd highly recommend giving the restaurant a try, great food and great service. I will definitely be back!

Was very excited about visiting fish & field. The food was great - delicious flavours, and very aesthetically pleasing. There were no complaints about the food at all. However a few things could be improved. The wait was too long (went on a quiet Tuesday night and still waited 30m for food to be served). The waiter also had little knowledge about the food he was serving, such as what kind of sauce the fish was going to be served with. These are small things, however when paying for fine dining cuisine you expect fine dining service as well. I hope that as fish & field find their feet, these small issues will improve, because the food there is without doubt worth sampling.

Recently visited this restaurant from recommendations from friends. The menu had good a good selection and especially the specials dishes of fresh fish on the blackboard. The restaurant is currently being remodelled so the inside is not what you expect from the trendy logo, owners past history and menu options but it is work in progress. Wine selection was great and we enjoyed a great red wine. However if music and ambience is important to you then this was poor and it was very quiet for a weekend night which lacked a certain atmosphere. They defiantly need a new music collection. Starters were lovely cooked to perfection. Desserts were fabulous! Only slight improvement would be that the fillet and the venison had a strong taste of the charcoal grilled flavour that overpowered the meats true flavour and the balance wasn't quite right in mine and my partners opinion. Fish was brilliant however that our friends had. Definitely worth a 2nd visit to watch them develop and grow. Service was brilliant, friendly and relaxed.

Lovely meal here last night for my graduation. The sewin was tasty and came with a generous amount of potatoes and veg as a side. I also had the duck spring rolls for starter which were delicious. Came here midweek with friends and we all throughly enjoyed our selves. They have got a great wine selection. They also had a good selection of fresh fish. Our starters were delicious especially the parfait and scallops. Then onto our mains I had ribeye with a pepper sauce which was cooked to perfection. While the others had king prawns , halibut and sewin which they all agreed was outstanding shame we didn't have room for puddings we would defiantly recommend this place to any of my friends and family. Best meal I've had around Cardiff in a long time!!

Having been constant customers of Casa Mia and then Scalini's in this very same building before the change of hands, we were treated by a friend for a meal in the new establishment on a Thursday night. I couldn't finish my starter which consisted of feta cheese, mi-cuit cherry tomatoes (half dried) and rocket. There was so much salty feta, with no cucumber/mango/fig/pear or any other fresh tasting ingredient to offset it, apart from fronds of rocket, I had to stop eating it. My family was gobsmacked as this is a rare event in my life. I had to admit this to the waiter when he politely asked if we were enjoying our meal and the feta starter was taken off the final bill My main was a rare steak. My friend had a rare steak which was just right. Mine was completely raw, just seared on either side and icy cold in the middle. The steaks were accompanied by the latest trend for big fat chips. They were torpedo sized and made from tasteless dry potatoes. Each "chip" needed to be cut into five mouthfuls, the ratio of crisp exterior to fluffy interior was vast.(Incidentally, why don't restaurants hand cut thin chips that are then twice fried, like they used to in France?). Auntie Bessie's roast potatoes might have tasted better than these. My daughter's terrine starter with chutney was fine, her giant prawns disintegrated in her fingers as she peeled them so she wasn't too happy. My husband found his starter of trout and new potatoes tasteless.Out general consensus was the Chef must have had a night off. We had no pudding nor coffee, but around 3 bottles of house wine between 5, and the bill was £190. Shame.

Great to get a table last minute on a Saturday evening. The service was good but I did mention to the chef that served us that my starter of scallops one of them smelt of ammonia ( I'm a foodie so that's not good) We had both finished & then he asked if I wanted another portion?...;I declined!! There was no reflection on the bill still charged full amount £9.50for the scallop starter & I always give a good tip at the end £10 tip I left but I won't be visiting this establishment again.

Just opened a few weeks ago Fish & Field is a new restaurant opened by two chefs who took over Scalini's restaurant and remodeled it. Run by chefs you'd expect the food to be great and it is. Even the straightforward things such as the Sunday roast was really, really well done. Light on vegetarian but again, what was done was done really well. Bonkers? Well, I suspect the interior design has also been done by chefs who've opened the book of restaurant design cliches to include big cutlery stuck on the walls, corks, wine boxes, 80's sofas... although I did get a nice touch of nostalga from the black wooden menu covers. Anyway, being poncy about the decor aside it was a really good meal. Friendy staff, good food. I'll be back, and probably quite soon.

Visited here once before during the transition period of new ownership. Several months on and we decided to revisit. The menu choice was good and the House red wine very easy to drink and would certainly choose again. The restaurant was quiet but service was excellent as usual from Mark. The food was very tasty and both the meat and fish dishes were good quality. Again desserts were delicious.I would say I think it is quite pricey for what you get but it is a fine dining restaurant and compared to others in the same bracket probably similar. There is an early bird offer available until 7pm. I'm not sure if there is a childrens menu as we did not require it but as a parent of young children there is not much a fussy child would eat. I'm sure though the staff would be as accommodating as possible.Overall a positive experience and worth a visit if your looking for the high mid/upper end of the price market in Cardiff.

What a gem and right on our doorstep. My wife and I went there for an impromptu evening meal and were pleasantly surprised. The food was first class and we had excellent service from Mark and the chefs. We pushed the boat out and had the Chateaubriand and we were not disappointed. Called in Tuesday lunchtime for a treat as we had to cancel a trip to Padstow where we intended to visit Rick Steins seafood restaurant. Nice fixed price menu but we decided on the a la carte. Starters of calamari and duck spring roll were good especially the spring roll. Dover sole and halibut for main course both excellent and the vanilla sauce with the halibut was fantastic. Vegetables beautifully cooked, particularly the green beans which were crunchy and the sweet potato mash which was delicious. Not very busy but the service was very good and friendly without being fussy. Not cheap but we have had so many disappointing, overpriced meals at so many restaurants that I felt motivated to write the only review I have ever posted on trip advisor.

My husband and I had visited this restaurant before when it was Scalinis and enjoyed every visit. When we heard that it had been bought by 2 chefs we were keen to try it. We went there for dinner last night and we were given a very warm welcome by the new owners Gareth and Ross. The restaurant had been decorated in lovely warm shades and it was relaxing to sit in the bar to have a drink before going to our table. There was a good choice of food on the menu plus many more items on the specials board. The restaurant was quiet when we arrived and we were served promptly. My husband chose the soup starter and hake for the main course and I had pate followed by sea bass and we both had banana tart with icecream for dessert. All were delicious!! I wouldn't say that this restaurant is inexpensive for dinner but I understand that they do a 2 course meal lunchtime and EARLY evening dinner ( before 7pm) for £13.50 and a 3 course Sunday lunch for £19.95. We visited over the Easter holidays for an early dinner and were really impressed with the whole experience. We spotted the restaurant as we made our way to Roath Park - it's right off the park so a really convenient location if you're having a walk around the park and fancy something to eat. We took advantage of the lunch/early dinner option which gives you two course for £13.50 and I have to say the food was absolutely delicious. There was a nice range of choices. We all opted for main course and dessert; my beef was gorgeous, really tender and juicy and my brother as a veggie enjoyed the stuffed mushrooms while the other two adults in our group had the fish which they were really impressed with. The staff were really accommodating with our two young children too offering smaller/half portions of the main meals at a really reasonable price. Dessert was a dark chocolate and honey mousse and had I not been in public, I would have licked the plate it was that good! Service was great - attentive but not intrusive or pushy. All in all, a great find and I would thoroughly recommend.

Yesterday a lovely lunch with sandwiches. Good, fresh quality cold cuts, pickles. Good cappuccino. Chaotic service, but we decided to have another sandwich. Again, good quality. Today complete other experience. Ordered a sandwich and coffee again. Chaotic behind the counter and it took ages to get our coffee. One sandwich with cold cuts was fine again, but the one with pear, blue cheese and nuts was drowning in balsamic sauce and something else. Rye bread was soaked up. Stopped eating quickly, but no one came around to ask what was wrong. At the end they wanted to clear the table and I told them: no, my food was not good. Oh sorry, but you can pay at the counter. At the counter mentioned again my sandwich was not good at all: you should have told us before and not eaten your sandwich. But I did not, ask your colleague. No, nothing came back. You have to pay… Made me feel a liar..
