Wally's in Cardiff

An interesting place with unique food and drinks, has a good selection of vegetarian dishes, and I had a delish salad. Can be noisy when busy.

What a little gem of a place. Hidden in the arcade it's well worth seeking out. The Cafe upstairs was warm and welcoming with some great choices of food, not run of the mill like other places. The shop downstairs has some tremendous produce and somewhere I'll be visiting more now I've discovered it.

Great Deli. Amazing food great prices great quality

Good food and lovely staff. On my last visit they made a mistake withy order, but the team were quick to admit to the mistake and went out of their way to get it right. Much appreciated their proactiveness and positive attitude. Definitely going back. The deli downstairs has fantastic options, but not much for those on a tight budget, as the quality products they offer are not cheap.

Good deli with a huge choice of produce. Great selection of Chacuterie as well as a fantastic cheese selection. A great place to find some niche ingredients you can't find elsewhere. A small but very nice tinned seafood selection, the sauce was Spanish tinned mussels are excellent.

If you're visiting Cardiff it's a must! Great food and great products. It used to be the only place to find some ingredients.However as a resident of Cardiff, I am more and more finding it hugely overpriced. I appreciate they have to fund city centre rent and rates but after my last visit I may have to abandon this shop as most of their stock is now available out of town for far less.

I used to love coming here as a student for a hot drink, lunch or a sweet treat. Over the Christmas period, I was visiting Cardiff with my family and wanted to introduce the kids to this old haunt where I had had some really quality sundaes before. We all ordered sundaes after I raved about them to the kids. Despite the waitress saying they were out of some ice cream flavours, she assured us they could still make our order by complementing vanilla ice cream with fruit. Twenty-five minutes later (there's always been a bit of a wait at Wally's but I didn't mind waiting for quality food in the past), the waitress brought us bowls of melted, lukewarm vanilla "ice" cream with a few strawberries and my "sundae"/bowl of melted cream had a coffee shot with it. I was outraged that they were trying to pass this off as sundaes. The waitress said Wally's isn't known for sundaes; perhaps things have changed there but why still have it on the menu? Unfortunately, my kids had slurped up and drunk the contents of the bowl (you shouldn't be able to drink ice cream) before I had a chance to contest that these were not in fact sundaes. Then the waitress finally admitted that their freezer was broken. Why had we not been afforded this clarity and transparency 25 minutes earlier when we could have changed our order? We were then charged almost 50 quid for this farce! I will never be returning of course given the loss of faith as I was truly shocked by the whole experience. The assistant manager suggested a 20 percent discount which just beggared belief given 3 of the "sundaes"/bowls of melted cream weren't even touched out of the order of 5. Pretty shameful to do this to customers at Christmas time (we visited on Saturday 20th December 2024).

A wonderfully presented place with prices so marked up for alcohol it's not worth looking at. £14 more than going rate for pissed rum

I popped in here last weekend to pick up some food for Christmas. The shop itself is lovely, but while standing near the cheese counter the older man manning the counter came up behind me and put both hands on my shoulders and physically moved me out of his way. It's absolutely unnecessary to touch a customer like that, simply saying "excuse me" would have been better. When I confronted him and told him not to touch me, he shrugged and rolled his eyes at me. Such a shame that one staff member has completely ruined my experience, because everyone else was wonderful and the selection of food and drink in the shop is great.

Tenía familia del extranjero el domingo por la tarde. Cardiff... estaba lloviendo... así que me dirigí a las galerías... pasando por Wally's dije: "Esta es mi tienda favorita en Cardiff". Mi hermana vio que había comida arriba . . . tbh he estado yendo y viniendo durante décadas y no lo había sabido . . así que subimos a recibirnos con un maravilloso ambiente virgen, camareras realmente encantadoras, excelente comida, buen vino y una agradable sorpresa de lo razonables que eran los precios. Esto es realmente una joya. Diolchgar iawn am y croeso a safonau.

Great produce on sale if a bit more expensive than others

Tenía grandes esperanzas en este café austriaco, pero lamentablemente fue una gran decepción. Terrible servicio, tuve que rogar a alguien que tomara mi pedido, escuché a otra clienta acercarse al mostrador para darle orden de que le preguntaran '¿QUÉ quieres' con una voz muy 'no se puede molestar'. ¡La sopa era ese famoso plato austriaco de sopa de puerro y patata! Se desplomó para el Apple Strudel que tardó 20 minutos en llegar y estaba tan quemado en la base que dejé la mayor parte.

Wally's is always spotlessly clean, the food is excellent and the service is great.

Love this deli for absolutely delicious food and drinks. There is always something tasty to try. The staff there are so helpful and knowledgeable. They also have a lovely café upstairs with products from the shop. Highly recommended for a visit.

Oh dear! I have discovered Wally's. How very dangerous. The very affable Mark directed me towards the selection of Mezcals - I succumbed. Sam on cheese was charming and I only barely escaped without buying far too much. What a lovely shop.

Ayer un almuerzo encantador con bocadillos. Bien, embutidos frescos de calidad, encurtidos. Buen capuchino. Servicio caótico, pero decidimos tomar otro sándwich. De nuevo, buena calidad. Hoy completamos otra experiencia. Pedí un sándwich y café otra vez. Caótico detrás del mostrador y tomó siglos para conseguir nuestro café. Un sándwich con embutidos estaba bien otra vez, pero el de pera, queso azul y frutos secos se estaba ahogando en salsa balsámica y algo más. El pan de centeno estaba empapado. Dejó de comer rápidamente, pero nadie vino a preguntar qué pasaba. Al final quisieron despejar la mesa y les dije: no, mi comida no era buena. Lo siento, pero puedes pagar en el mostrador. En el mostrador mencionado de nuevo mi sándwich no era bueno en absoluto: debería habernos dicho antes y no comer su sándwich. Pero no lo hice, pregunte a su colega. No, no ha vuelto nada. Tienes que pagar... Me hizo sentir un mentiroso.

Charging mega prices for low quality food, the pic ‘n’ mix nuts were stale and the cannoli tasted like its was sitting on display for few days. Waste of money

Fair prices for delicious foods, with friendly service and a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. Definitely recommend the deli meats and the gelato, as well as the homemade cannolis.

it has a large selection of food from Italy which is where I am from and I appreciate the stuff they sell. However their food is a bit overpriced, its like 9 pounds for two cans of tuna which usually cost less than 2 euros in Italy. The food that they sell is delicious, I really love their chocolate covered nuts. It has a wide range of candies. They also sell fresh food such as olives which are amazing. I love that they have lots of different types of pasta which is amazing. They also have some Australian wafers which are quite nice.

Lush local deli with an awesome selection of quality Welsh (and further afield) goodies. Perfect for a foodie treat.

My wife and I used to go here when we went to Cardiff. An upstairs Cafe so we’ve held off going back until the kids were bigger and no buggies, etc. now aged 6 and 4 we really enjoyed lunch here earlier in the week. I like the meat and cheese platter.

Great lunch. We were there when it was quiet not too long before closing. The waitresses were really lovely and helped us out with info since we were travelling through the area. The food was simple but delicious. My partner had the herring open sandwich and loved it, I had the frankfurter in a pretzel roll with emmental cheese. The crowning glory was the curry ketchup... could've eaten it by the spoonful. We had a few sides, and some crazy (and calorific) ice cream coffees which were an indulgent treat. Finally we shared an apple strudel which was a yummy cherry on top. Overall we spent around £40 and thought that was pretty reasonable for what we had!

Excellent deli👌. Different kinds of olives, sundries tomatoes, pickles and cheese stuffed pepper in the olive bar. Burrata, which is rarely found in Cardiff, is sold there.

It is a great place for relaxing and having fairly quiet lunch. It is a great place to eat lunch and watch the world go by.

delicious. i have been here a few times with different people. they offer a student discount too for my fellow students out there. the menu has so much variety with so many options to choose from that suits many different diets. my partner is vegetarian and was not short of choices. the staff are the best, so friendly and charming. we got an extra cannoli the first time we visited and the staff just care so much. highly recommend, this place is underrated.

I’ve purchased lots of products from this lovely shop so thought we’d finally actually eat in the cafe. Big disappointment! Four items we ordered were unavailable. There is a note on the menu saying “vegan alternatives available”. No alternative yoghurt or butter. Surely these are basic alternatives. Couldn’t even have a slice of toast! The waitress had no idea what was available and wasn’t that bothered either. Certainly won’t be going there again

Great coffee (had the Verlängerter Schwarzer) and the Christmas Pate on Toast. Good quality food but unfortunately the portion was small for the price. Food in photo was £6.50. The service was polite and professional in general but very attentive.

The shop is great but the staff are not. Staff have zero knowledge on even their own brand coffee - basics such as whether it is suitable for a French press etc - and they were unfriendly and didn’t try to help

I always love wallys so much. Every time I walk in my inner bokke comes out and spend so much in biltong. But you see the thing is that it’s worth it!!!

Bought half the deli!! Had our supply of different pasta, olives, sundried tomatoes, various meats and cheeses, crackers, amaretto biscuits. Fabulous deli. Lovely staff. Very welcoming.

Wally’s is a Cardiff tradition- it offers authentic Austrian sandwiches and platters and hot choices too. Home made strudel and other top end patisserie together with an excellent range of teas and coffees

If you like European food this would be a good place to eat when in Cardiff. This company sells a wide range of continental foods in the Delicatessen downstairs then serves some of that food upstairs. The staff were very friendly and the food was served promptly. One word of caution. The food shown on the website is not the same as now being served in restaurant. It is better to choose your food from the restaurant menu. The menu has a good variation but it is based on German and Dutch food. The food is not exactly the cheapest you might expect ( see my photo) but it is the experience.

Absolutely magical shop. I used to come here when I was a kid and brought my partner to shop there and he loved it. You can find anything you want and more in this shop. It's so exciting to try new things. You pay for the quality of what you are getting, so prices are higher than usual but it's what you expect for the quality. The cafe upstairs is also very cute!

What a delight this deli is. When I visit Cardiff I have to go in. The most likely place to find your dream food and drinks. The selection is incredible. This is why this shop has been in the arcade for so long. Olives, baclava, liquor galore. Chocolate and treats Take sometime to explore. So worth the visit.

We were looking for some speciality cheeses and this was definitely a good place for that. Service was personal and staff friendly.

Been shopping here for years. Dissappointed lately, packets of lardons etc, in good date, but tasted very sour, ruined the meal we put them in. Morello cherry jam, expensive and tasteless, I nearly cracked a tooth on a large stone in the jam, won't be buying that again. Thankgoodness they still have the fresh counters.

Normally love Wally's, I always stop on my way to the train station to get whoever I'm visiting a gift however, after checking the open times, I stopped by yesterday at 3:30 and the store was completely closed up despite online saying they're open until 5:30 :(

Outstanding store over the years, the cafe upstairs has been a frequent spot for us since it opened. I love their range.. they even stock Mahon cheese, literally unseen outside of the Balearic Islands.

The place I go regularly to find french cheese and french cured meat. These are authentic and good quality products. If they don't have something, they will try their best to order it for you. It can seem a bit pricey, but I'd rather eat less but good quality.

Wally's Delicatessen is a quirky shop offering all kinds of boutique style food and drinks. It is a perfect shop for Christmas presents, stocking fillers or just for tasty food for home. There is an absolute massive variety of food. Loved especially the different pasta and also the canolli. The cheese counter was very impressive too. The meat counter had a really good variety. The staff were all very friendly and professional. Definitely recommend

Whenever I'm in town I just have to visit. The food is mouthwatering. You can't get better authentic continental food in my opinion. The cafe is a must visit too! Just beware it gets busy but definitely worth the wait!

I wanted a specific chilli sauce for exibition purposes I checked Wally's web page and it clearly stated they had it in stock. After catching two buses to get to the store I was annoyed to find they didn't have any. I asked one of the helpers I think he was a Wally and was not very helpful, so if you are far away you need to phone first if what your after is specialised

Absolutely fantastic selection of Italian meats and Welsh cheeses, including the King of Caerphillys, Gorwydd. Incredible selections of all sorts of delicatessen and whiskies. All pretty high-end prices, though, so you come away with less than you'd like simply because you can't afford to spend that much.
