Fish & Chips on Thames Avenue in Swindon

last night 19th of Oct 24 I visited after lots of visits in the last 10 years but sorry to say my large cod was not up to their normal high standard

It's a really clean and professional takeaway. Thanks to all concerned

The food was cold and the delivery driver took ages to find the house even though he was at the top of the drive for around 10 mins! My partner had to chase him down the road he failed to call to see if I could help or go find him

Got fish and chips delivered for mother she called me asking me why I got her a kids meal? The fish was so small she thought it was a child’s meal for £18 that’s a rip off this chippy was once the best in Swindon if not Wiltshire what’s happened to it

Thames avenue chips used to be the best in Swindon. What happened? Not only is it extremely expensive compared to other shops, the fish was tiny, dark and over cooked. I had to chew my way through it. the chips were dark and cold like they had been sitting for a long time. the peas were bland and tasteless. the onion rings were ok but the smallest 4 rings I have ever seen. over £20 for this awful meal, I feel robbed

Gluten free was contaminated. We were promised they would investigate but heard nothing. Tiny portions as well.

Enjoyed my meal but some of the batter was soggy, unusual for this fish and chip shop. I wish there was a small chip portion available with the standard cod.

Drink was warm as was in with the food , ordered large fish and chips but fish was definitely not a large and only a small amount of chips, for the price and quality I won’t be ordering again no more

Eating the chips from here is what I'd imagine chewing on damp cardboard is like. stale, lifeless, and a little soggy Curry sauce and the cod was alright Can't comment on atmosphere or service as I never stepped inside

Food was cooked well and tasted great, I’d ordered a side of 6 onion rings however only received 4, as the food was loose packaged I assumed it was a taster by my delivery driver. Would consider using a different service if I chose this shop again

Best fish & chip shop I’ve ordered food from in the ~3 years I’ve lived in Swindon! Chips are gorgeous, fish is large with crispy batter, curry sauce is excellent & food always arrives piping hot. Love the Crazy88 burger - hat off to whoever came up with the idea :D

Honestly the best chippy in Swindon! I live over the otherside of Swindon and I happily drive there to get chips and veggie battered sausages. The nicest staff in there who are always happy and so helpful. The owner is always front of house working with the staff which is nice to see! The chips always taste fresh and the majority of the food is cooked to order so its always hot. Couldnt recommend this place enough if you haven't already tried it!!

Ordered online and have to say I was really impressed. The food was hot, fresh and tasty. Will definitely be back!

Have gotten my Fish N Chip hit here for a few years now ( along with other wee inserts - (Battered Sausages/Krazee 88 Burgers ) - Food has always been outstanding - nothing is too much trouble - ordering online is a cinch, and ready to go on arrival. Absolute Stars for Swindon.

Just had fish and chips from Thames avenue, fish was very good but chips were terrible out of 3 portions we are going to throw about 2 portions away, they were over cooked as if they were trying to make them brown,hard and many bits.had them from here before and were really good but they are now on my miss list

The birthday boy was disappointed about how late his meal was but was impressed by the twelve inch sausage.

Ordered from you thinking delivery time was up to 45 mins but it took 95mins from ordering. Won’t be coming back

Visited Fish & Chips on Thames Avenue tonight for the first time as our local shop was closed. Very friendly service from the off. The lady serving who turned out to be the owner, was very friendly and outgoing. The food was cooked fresh in front of me and tasted amazing! The fish was cooked to perfection and the curry sauce was a huge hit! Will definitely be back!

Delicious and reasonably priced fish and chips. They consistently deliver quality, a rarity these days. The staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful.

My fiance, Mr. Mayl and I have just finished eating our meals BUT Mr. Mayl was very disappointed because he ordered curry sauce with his fish and chips but when we got home, he discovered that the curry sauce was missing. It was not particularly busy; only 2 other people waiting for their order, so I don't think background noise can be blamed for the server not hearing my fiance, especially as I heard him. This is why I have given the star rating of an average of 3 only. This and the fact that we had to wait in a draught.

Perfect as always! But I didn’t get to eat the battered sausages as when I opened the box they dropped on the floor…..my dogs we’re totally impressed! 😂😂 my fault

This is the worst place to order fish and chips it was cold the fish was small I ordered a large one and the chips was old and could not eat it so we throw it in the bin a waste of £40 never again

I ordered a large cod and chips with mushy peas. The large cod was medium size and looked like it was processed, i.e., it was cut into a rectangle! There were far to many 'scrag ends' of chips and everything was luke warm. Terrible experience, considering it was almost £20, including delivery. Very dissapointed with every aspect.

Ordered on line. Good menu, easy to order. Delivered on time, Food hot when delivered and very enjoyable.

Half of order missing on arrival and then told to request refund and to pay for delivery charge again. Appalling service and food quality of what actually arrived was poor

UPDATE- DO NOT ORDER THROUGH JUSTEAT AS THEY STATE THAT ALL TAKEAWAYS WILL VARY ON QUALITY, PORTION SIZE ETC SO WILL NOT REFUND IF FOOD IS POOR QUALITY. Always chose this fish and chip shop, today is the final time I order. Not sure what is going on but the chips were awful, definitely had more of an oven chip vibe. Curry sauce was weak. Really poor and feel let down.

This was my goto chippy for the last 5 years. No more after this order!! Chips were awful, more like oven chips, battered sausage was mush with no flavour. Same goes for the curry sauce bland. Not sure if there has been a change of owner, but whatever it was off putting. New chippy to be found....

Lovely fish and chips but really small fish. Shame as trying out on behalf of 7 in the family and fish not large enough to cut into more than 4, other chippies tried will be chosen only on size of fish

Gutted! These were frozen chips at the same price as real chip shop chips. If I had wanted frozen chips I would have bought a bag and heated them in the oven myself.

Our food was hugely disappointing Our chips were dry and seemed over cooked and the burger was not great either, I had a similar meal 6 months ago which was lovely But the standard has sunk and I feel ripped off

No show by the delivery . I ordered the food at 17:30. I was promised a delivery at 18:15-18:35. It was then changed to 18:35-18:55. I waited until 19:30, but no show. I had to go out by then. Very poor

Food quantity definitely has gone down hill, we used to order all the time and was very pleased never a bad word, but now only occasionally order and definitely not the same anymore, most of chips were hard as rock and tasted better quality cod. Delivery time kept going out but know this is not the restaurants fault and can’t be helped. Ordered large cod but had bigger before the sizes have got smaller than previously. Definitely not value for money on the prices you are asking, the meal deals especially always used to come with drinks but now they do not and asking more money for less portions.

I know it was Friday evening (early) but I don't set the guide time, you do. Delivery should have taken one hour, actually took two. Significant for the young child with the rapidly approaching bed time. When the food arrived, we were missing one sausage. Unfortunately, the form to advise of issues, isn't flexible enough to allow for PART of a meal missing.

Visited several times, but I can only give 3*. Everything cooked and served is just average. In such a prime location, they could make a killing, but...

The food was exceptional, and on calling the takeaway, the issue was caused because they were waiting well over an hour for a delivery driver from justeat. Original delivery time was 6:15pm for a 5:35pm order, and food actually turned up at 8pm

Prices here are very expensive. Quality of food not matched. Batter on fish was soggy as took over 45 mins for delivery.

This use to be the best chip shop in Swindon even after Wendy left, chips were always the best, but lately they have really gone down hill, the last two lots we have had tasted like they had were leftovers and fried again, didn’t taste nice at all and were very greasy, wouldn’t of wrote this review if this hadn’t of happened more than once, very disappointed as this was my go to chip shop.

Second time ordering from here and it never disappoints. By far the best chip shop I’ve eaten from in Swindon.

Not best impressed. Order fish and chips that arrived, and was ok, chips were nothing special. We ordered fish cake and chips to but the chips were missing. Therefore 2 adults eneded up sharing a small chips, our plates were looking like 2 children's meals, we payed 25 for our food, so not happy. Have used before and it's been good, so dont know what happened with our order.

Ordered 2 large fish and chips and only 1 came large the other fish came standard size and half the size smaller

Very disappointed to find you were not open Thursday evening or again on Friday midday. It is pointless to advertise on line opening hours if they are not kept. Two wasted journeys but there will not be third.

Food was disgusting and part of the order was missing on top of it being 45 mins late .. First meal in a week and now wish I'd had beans on toast!

When I opened the munch box I was disappointed to see the most unappealing appearance of the chips, I had to check I'd ordered from the right place as usually the food is great, the chips weren't even warm! Rock Hard cold chips! Not even edible so treat night was certainly not a treat, I won't be wasting my money again, the sausages were hot but the chips could of come from the dustbin!

Once again, food amazing, but let down by poor delivery time from Just Eat delivery drivers. I thought I’d give Just Eat a chance to sort delivery out but they failed miserably, again. I feel sorry for the restaurants that use JE delivery drivers because their score is affected by constant late deliveries outside their control…….

£21 for a small cod chips, curry sauce, mushy peas and a small can of Coke. I cannot believe what came was £21 worth. Should of been no more than £14

Food was excellent as always, but Just Eat need to sort out their driver issues……..I’ll still get meals from this restaurant but need to find an alternative way of ordering, Just Eat just aren’t up to it. F&COTA what’s the best way to collect from you?

Waited over an hour and the restaurant is only half a mile away

Food lovely however waiting over two hours for it to arrive wasn't fabulous,my son had fallen asleep so went to bed hungry obviously not the restaurants fault but still disappointed

Great tasting fish and chips. Still nice and hot on arrival. The time of arrival was changed and pushed back twice which was annoying though.

Super fast delivery and super delicious sausage and chips. Best in Swindon.
