Polite enough service otherwise all very average. Cash only.

The portion is large, but the fish is a bit oily (i.e. breaded). In nice weather you can eat it on the quay

Worst fish and chips I've ever had. Way too oily and tasted like it was fried in old dirty oil. Made me feel sick, really disappointed, you'd think a quayside chippie could do better. Fish left a literal puddle of oil on the table after soaking through several layers of paper.

I'm not a picky person when it comes to food, the fish and chips from this place are something else tho... The only positive thing I could come up with are the calories I gained from em. Incredibly oily, missing a lot of flavour and no love at all. Cash only and next to no space in the shop does not add to the experience. Might have been just a bad day, but it really set back the mood of our group. Would be a skip from me :)

Incredibly expensive and definitely not worth the price. Having to pay for sauces says it all about this place. Portions are small and the curry sauce which by the way is £1.50 is a sauce from the fridge. They have agreement with travel agencies to bring them clients however I would strongly recommend to find another place

Best fish and chips on our trip to Scotland and Ireland. The employees were great and the food was awesome. Say yes when they offer salt and vinegar. Cash only, so be prepared. Not sure why some reviews said it was a tourist trap. Just good food.

Great fish and chips with generous portions and served with a smile. Even my partner who doesn't like fish devoured it 🥰😇. If I don't give 5 stars, it's just because their sauces are not homemade (at least the tartare🥺, that would be great) but are 2 simple sachets per portion and sold for £0.20😭.

We were starving after a whole morning of sightseeing and were recommended this fish&chips. We waffled it down because we were hungry but as I ate it, I knew there would be consequences later because the food tasted super greasy and oily. 🤢 I was right because I had digestive problems in the evening and felt really sick. My mum also felt this way. The atmosphere and the vibes of eating your fish&chips by the sea are the only reasons I’m not giving this place one star. The meal itself was very mediocre for what you pay and definitely not the best fish and chips.

We ordered fish & chips, peas and gravy. The fish was truly crispy and fresh, however other items were a little bit plain. But still, I consider it a good choice in Portree. It opens 7 days a week by the way. The opening hour on Goggle is somehow incorrect.

Quick service which is a worry in itself. Greasy old chips and as the fish was sitting on top of chips the batter became soggy. A few bones in fish still had some skin on it. Overpriced for what it was. Threw half of it in the bin.

Hands down the best fish and chips in Portree! The fish was an immense portion, and I could eat the chips forever (not an exaggeration). The chips were the best ever. They're fries that taste like potato chips! I'm still dreaming about them. You need to pay in cash, and you pay extra for sauces, but you definitely don't need any ! There isn't any seating, just a takeaway. We'd be regulars if we lived nearer. A must try!!

We shared a portion of fish and chips, the portion was large! The fish tasted fresh and the breading was delicious. Otherwise, unfortunately, they are extremely greasy, making the chips hard to eat. Of course, that is also a matter of taste. I wouldn't eat here again.

The female serving was extremely rude and condescending regarding not having seen the cash only sign. So much so we took our business elsewhere to the chip shop on the hill which served lovely food, took card payments and had excellent customer service skills with a smile

I had fish and chips and the food was so, so good. I want to point out that I've never eaten chips as good as this place. This to me was next level. I don't know what they do to their chips and it might just be the way it's done in Scotland, I don't know. Out of all of the fish and chip shops I've gone to, this is by far the best.

Disgusting over priced food with poor customer service. Tasteless, oily and over cooked to a crisp - this is so disappointing for such a prime location and serving tourists from around the world. This place will be busy regardless due to its location - who knew a chip shop literally on a harbourside could get it so wrong. Happy with prices if the food is good but literally unedible- 2 fish suppers and a juice for £25!! Go to the chippy on the hill nearby, lovely food and helpful friendly service.

The owners seem very nice and were very chatty - it's a shame they cook everything in processed vegetables oils (not good for anyones health)... Luckily you can get beef dripping up to street - i guess they're providing a service to all these poor vegans.

Bought fish and a tray of greasy oil saturated chips/bottom of the pan crumbs absolute disgusting un edible muck I have used this Chippy a good thew times and it’s been ok but what I was served today 10/9/23 I won’t be back absolute stinking and not cheap £10.50 for a tray of grease

The only truly authentic scottish fish & chips experience I found on my recent trip north. Most establishments try to cater for a more continental or international clientele - or actual human beings in general. Not this place though. The fish & chips encounter is as horrible as it's supposed to be and has been told off for generations: fish so greasy it melts your cheap plastic fork (plastic knife not provided, just use your hands), sloppy, half-cooked chips without taste, onion rings that make you consider your life's choices - a traditional scottish meal that will support your appreciation of the island's beverage producers. The final touch is the loving presentation of the food and the cheap, unopenable sauce sachets of indistinct flavour. No save-the-planet-greenies around here, each meal produces enough rubbish to offset a larger residential building's recycling efforts. If you fancy a more traditional approach to hebredian cuisine and have good health insurance, this is the place to visit in scotland!

Food was okay. Was shocked and stunned at the lack of customer service from the young man who was serving. Very rude to us considering we spent a lot of Money. Complained that he had to call for us three times considering that he told us to go outside. Some other snide remarks to us also. All in it was a really bad experience.

the meal was delicious, but I found at least ten fishbones in my fish and it was very oily. Expect a queue as it is quite a popular place and that´s the reason whey they are in such a hurry. The fish was packed straight from the fryer without it having had a chance to drain properly.

Chips were ok but far too much salt, and I enjoyed the fish but the batter was extremely greasy. None of us managed to finish. It was very busy though, so maybe just too many people. The service was polite and friendly, cash only sounds dodgy these days though and very inconvenient in 2023!

10.50 pounds for frozen scampi and about twenty chips. Separate tray of chips pitiful amount. Fleeced

Very delicious fish and chips, soft and full of flavour! They accept cash only, but there is an ATM around the corner in RBS. At the same place you can get on a Stardust boat trip and see sea eagles, seals, dolphins, puffins. The chances to see the wildlife depend on the weather and the more calm and quiet it is the higher the chances to see them. You get a free tea, coffee or hot chocolate if you get on a boat trip. Highly recommend both boat trip and fish and chips!

Reading other reviews is almost comical. This place is exactly what it’s supposed to be! It’s local and fresh and fast. There are no tables or benches outside so you have to be creative and find a cute place to park it to eat. All the complaining like you’re walking into a Michelin star place and they’ve disappointed you. The man working was a delight! I asked for light salt on mine and got it and it was DELICIOUS fish (yes greasy at times) but absolutely one of the best and the fastest option in portree. Don’t let the silly tourist persuade the travelers from experiencing this little joint because it’s great!

Don't be decieved by the glowing reviews that this establishment has somehow garnered. This is by far one of the worst chippies I've ever had (and as a scot I've had a fair few). Not only were the supper portions extremely meagre, they also tasted awful. Half the chips i got were still hard and the other half were the burnt crispy ends (hardly a chip). The scampi was in no way fresh and super oily. To top it all of it was extremely pricey. You didnt even get sauce for free, just horrible cheap tasting satchets (try a bottle of gold star brown sauce 'fish and chips'). Of course some of this I may have overlooked if the server had only been kind enough to put a smile on her sour face. She had complete disdain and impatience for tourists particularly those from other parts of the world. Do yourself a favour, try one of the other chippies.

The kind of place that would really benefit from a self-service kiosk so they can't remove interaction from the process. Had fish and chips; fish alright and chips were not plentiful to say the least. Maybe the time of day (4pm) played into it. Seemed put out by me being there. Don't ask if it comes with cutlery or if they have a bin. Also, the Indian chap that came saying he was vegetarian and if he could have chips - probably unfair to treat him as if he'd asked you to deep fry your dog and basically laugh him out of the shop.

Best fish and chips I’ve had by a seafront! Fresh, soft fish with super crispy batter and a good portion of chips that weren’t soggy… We went on a Sunday when lots of other places were closed so there was a long wait but worth it! Just watch the seagulls…

This is a place for takeaway only as they pump out fish and chips at an unbelievable record. I highly recommend coming here. My wife and I stopped by here and ate at the lake. We only got one order of fish and chips and it was plentiful. I thought the taste was really food, the fish was fresh without that "fishy" smell or taste. I highly recommend a visit to this place! They do cash only so make sure you bring cash.

Delicious fish and chips, with lovely view on the harbour. It’s with its reputation and there’s high demand, get there early. Efficient staff. The fish is coated in batter right before being fried.
