Fish & Chips in Arun

Fish and chips would have been good if only they had salt and vinegar put on them. The server was too busy chatting to the ‘cook’ and when I asked her if she had put salt and vinegar on them she told me that she had. Very disappointing!!

Absolutely the worst bag of chips I’ve had in years!!! Wish I’d never noticed the shop. Friday early evening (typically their busiest time you’d assume??) empty shop; should have made me wonder. Spoke to some colleagues later, who live nearby and the unanimous response was DON’T USE THAT FISH & CHIP shop!!!

Literally just been in, camping round corner, ordered one big chips one small, 2 battered sausage, one sausage. Chip sizes are laughable for the price and forgot one sausage on order. Worst chippy I've ever had

Chips not cooked properly, mushy on the outside and hard on the inside, £3.75 for a large portion of chips and only seemed to receive a small portion. I recognise the gentleman had his kids working there to save some money but maybe supervise what they are doing next time. A waste of £18 quite frankly, This place needs a reality check. All the reviews from a few years ago are really good but the recent ones on reflection are very poor. It seems a review of their practises is needed

Not the worst fish n chips I've had but not as good as I'd hoped for this close to the sea. Quiet on a Tuesday however and staff equally so.

For one person treating themselves to a chippy dinner it cost more than £15 to take-away (cod, chips, mushy peas & a tartar sauce) - that’s dining out pricing?! The portion was a medium chips and medium cod (they don’t offer smaller sizes but as a size 8 girl I finished it so it wasn’t like it was a double portion and I was paying single person tax). The batter was entirely soft and the chips soggy and anaemic. The young chap who served me seemed genuinely embarrassed at the pricing but was friendly, sweet and provided good service. I’ve never left a bad review before, I’d always talk directly to the business, but this isn’t a one off, the establishment has no shame in serving well below average food at well above average prices. I guess why not, the tourist foot fall is high enough to not need repeat customers and there is no alternative !

Say what you want, but here I found the best fish and chips in the south of England. Generous portions and cooked to perfection. Only negative note, they only want cash.

The worst fish and chips in England. Soggy, mushy and cooked in cold oil that has not imparted any colour nor gained any crunch. The fish itself was nice but the batter suffered in the same way, dense, oily and mushy.

I've been here many times before, and its always been good. The main road was blocked and l took a complicated detour to get there on the way back from Bath. I was served uncooked chips which were revolting. There was a peculiar atmosphere in the shop anyway!I shan't come here again!

This place was recommended by my nextdoor neighbour, it didn't disappoint, lovely fish and chips good portion size too, I couldn't finish them and I have quite a good appetite 😊

Went here on a Saturday evening. Fish and chips for 2, all cooked freshly while we waited. Staff very friendly and served up our order quickly. Great place to get a lovely meal.

Bought senior citizen cod and chips 8/3/24, chips were really greasy, batter on the cod was wet and the fish was undercooked, had to throw it away, i don't think the guy cooking knows how to cook them

Very nice staff,friendly and efficient,only ordered 3 chips and 2 curry sauces but was very nice and portions sizes,although they didn't look big in the box a large chips filled an entire diner plate. Curry sauce was epic

If you like small portions and super under cooked almost raw chips it's absolutely the perfect place to go 👍

Definitely the best fish and chips I’ve ever had

I don't typically complain, but this was incredibly annoying to us. If I pay for large chips (£3.75), I expect to receive a large portion of chips; these were simply disrespectful. Not only  was it a small portion, but they were also barely blanched by the heated oil and tasted terrible. Without exaggeration, the worst chips I've ever purchased in the United Kingdom. If we hadn't driven away, I would have returned them to Trawler's Fish and Chips in Arundel. Is this the worst in the UK?

Picked up some fish and chips on route home from a day out with the kids. Enjoyed by all. A little too greasy for me. Friendly staff. On-street parking outside or pay and display parking nearby. Central

Agree with other people regarding the chips, soggy mush, greasy and not overly hot. Fish ok but all stuck to paper. Shame been before some time ago and all was fine.

I live between Whitby and Redcar so have plenty of good Fish and Chip shops nearby. It’s no exaggeration to say Trawlers matches them all and I’m tempted to say is better than my favourites back home. The fish was well cooked, great batter, chips just crispy - perfect. Great value for money too. Proper old school chippy! Just read down and cannot believe the awful vindictive reviews. Ignore them, listen to me.

The medium fish was small very oily not nice, the chips were horrible tasteless, soggy, undercooked completely stuck together

AVOID Shame there isn’t a 0 star option. Been coming here for a few years now, always been alright. Asked for a jumbo battered sausage and chips. Got home, fork won’t go into the sausage. Inedible. Sausage cracked in half eventually and was fit for the bin. Chips were so so, didn’t eat many. Went back down and barely got a half-arsed ‘sorry’ and £2 back. Sunday ruined, still hungry, bollo*** to this place. AVOID

Chips were very poor. A congealed oily mass of soggy chips. Only saving grave was the fish was quite nicely battered.

Had sausage in batter and chips from here last night. Surprised at all the bad reviews because i actually thought they were the best chips ive had from a chippy in a long time. Decent!

Disgusting soggy oily mass that went straight in the bin.

Oily chips and the oiliest fish I've ever had made for a very unpleasant experience. It was all so oily that by the time I opened my parcel of food. The paper had stuck to the batter and peeled off all of the batter on one side. Would not recommend for the price you pay. Friendly staff was the only positive.

Not recommended to anyone chips are all soggy full of oil chips with same taste as the fish disgusting fish all stick on the paper ... Price related with food way over expensive Please someone check this store about food health safety

What has happened to your chips!!!? I used to travel far for the best chips in Sussex. Since my last visit something bad has happened. I will not be coming again ☹️

The worst food I've ever eaten when going out. Chips were ridiculously soggy, literally eating straight up oil. Fish was awfully oily too and the batter tasted horrible. Glad that at least the seagulls got a decent meal! Avoid at all costs. Can get a better meal at the coop next door!!

Live locally and thought we would eat here as we normally eat from Pulborough. Guess what wish we hadn't. Small cod takes the biscuit my 3 year old grandson could of eaten it .so for an adult and price what a rip off and the chips are soggy full of oil rubbish that taste sweet like sugar absolutely vile .so wasted nearly £20 for stuff that went in the bin .Will be staying well clear

The kids fish portion has shrunk! Used to be a decent piece of fish. Would prefer to stick with bigger bit of fish and loose the bottle of sugary drink. Such a shame because otherwise it's usually very nice. This however didn't impress.

17.7.21 - 7pm Very disappointing, soggy pale chips and very thick fatty soggy batter on the fish.

Chips all soggy, no colour. Fish batter far too thick and damp. Not up to the usual standard. Visited about a month earlier very dispointed on return visit.

Nice local chippy, polite, good hot food and good value, very short walk to river with nice views

Amazing fish and chips and lovely owners, gave us extra chicken bites :) 2 groups of people saw us eating and asked where we bought the food because it looked/smelled so good

Bought some chips, it would have been a good idea to sit by the river to eat them then I could have thrown them in to the swans as they were awful.

Ordered fish chips and mushy peas tonight. Got home, no mushy peas and hardly a chip to speak of. Have had better here in the past, hence a 2 star, rather than one.

Social distancing was in place, staff were polite enough, and the cost was reasonable. The chips weren't great (they were undercooked) and the chicken burger was so-so, at best. Tldr; cheap but the food could be better.

I popped into the chippy today Fri 26. And I must say the chips was spot on portion size. Tasty real spud chips. And the young lady that served me. well mannered and polite. Well done. 😍

Second time I've been here and found unwanted things in the food. This time some plastic. Last time some metal from a wire brush. Will not be visiting again.

Simon and his team are always so friendly, and the food is great. My favourite is the scampi & chips, but the fish looks good too. Very popular with our B&B guests, as they are located just around the corner in Queen Street.

Not impressed. Worst bit of cod I've ever had. Expected small piece as I ordered small, but not that small. Batter wasn't cooked enough and stuck to paper. Probably most expensive chippy I've been to. I won't be going there again.
