Fish & Chips in Uttlesford

Tonight I ordered a half pounder with cheese and bacon as I hadn't eaten all day, the burger was OK, but charging someone .80p for a squirt of burger sauce is criminal.

Never had a bad experience here. The fish and chips are always fresh and delicious. However what we got last night was so disappointing. The fish had been sitting in the cabinet for some time. It was dried up and tough, and the scampi was tough and soft, not crisp and fresh. Chips ok but again not fresh. Really not up to the usual high standard. I’m only hoping that this doesn’t become the norm for this place

From the second I walked in was greater with a huge smiles. I ordered a medium haddock and mushy peas (no chip) fish was freshly cooked ( 5 min wait) came out and was perfect! Soft flaky fish, delicious crispy battery. Was brought over to where I was sitting, the server gave great customer service. 10 out of 10 will return to the town just for the fish.

I got a few cold spicy potatoes on a box for the price of a burger ( when I got home I discovered this ) . I should have checked however it’s their primary responsibility to ensure that the correct orders go out the counter.

Stopped to have pie and chips - great chips shame the pie was stone cold - not something too difficult to serve hot!!

Staff friendly and helpful. A very varied menu meant lots to choose from! Did not disappoint either, The Southern Fried Chicken was immense, food was hot and good portions!

Loved everything and will be back. Cod was probably the best I’ve had. Spicy potatoes were top notch too!

Friday night treat of fish and chips yesterday. Service was so quick and the quality was outstanding. Lovely fish and perfect chips. Thank you!

Always amazing food and service. Tonight I had the new southern fried chicken 🍗 wow it was amazing a million times better than any crappy food chain. Totally recommend best chippy for miles the fish is always fresh the batter crispy and the chips are so fluffy. The curry sauce and mushy peas are scrumptious. The staff are so happy and always so courteous. All round the best would not go anywhere else.

As a taxi driver I am always driving to Stanstead Airport from Sussex. I found this chip shop by chance many years ago and raved about it ever since, leaving a gushing review on here previously. I would like to retract this good review abs submit this one. Either their standards have plummeted or the restaurant has been taken over because the food we have just attempted to eat was diabolical. The whole meal looked and tasted as if it were prepared for an order that had been forgotten to be collected. The fish was soggy, limp and had an unpleasant odour. The chips were hours old, dried to a point that there was no fluffy potato left, just dry chewy fragments. We ordered and took the meal away in minutes and got this monstrosity of a meal, goodness only knows what the recipients of a delivery recieve. My advice would be to bring sandwiches or to use the Wetherspoons opposite.

I keep going back here because the reviews are prominently good. But, the past 3 times I have bought chips there, they have been hard & not cooked properly. I don't understand how people like their chips hard?!?! Or, do they just undercook them for us!! I'm confused......🤔

They seemed to be training some young people in retail and the fish shop trade in general when i was in there this time which was encouraging. I had cod and chips and they do a deal for 2 medium meals for a set price which was good, we saw the deal after we ordered the standard meals and when we noticed the poster we changed the order to save money,the deal wasn't pointed out to us at the time of ordering. The fish was really good and a large portion even though we ordered a medium cod. The chips are nice but not plump, you get a lot of small end pieces without a lot of soft potato inside. The curry sauce was historic very tasty. Big selection of different types of fish on offer including skate and rock which you do not always get these days in all F&C shops. This place is just opposite the weatherspoons pub along the high street. Worth a visit if in the area.

We come here once a week. The menu is pretty standard and it’s a bit expensive, but good food and friendly efficient service. It’s usually possible to park on the high street if you are collecting by car, but pick your time

Terrible. I wouldn’t feed it to my dog. As soon as I drove home, opened the packets, I could see the food wasn’t right or fresh. I took the food back, didn’t even want a refund - I certainly won’t be going back there again!!...

We arrived needing a hot snack and somewhere to eat it... perfect place for that! We were provided plates and cutlery and even offered a hot drink, great service by some very friendly servers. Would definitely recommend.

Never have to wait too long for service in this busy take-out. Not cheap but very reliable quality and our favourite take-out in the town.

I reckon this is the best Fish & Chip shop in the area, and now with a dining area too. Fish is skinless, cooked to perfection and coated in tasty, crispy batter. Gets very busy at peak times, but worth queuing.

Always freshly cooked and very generous portion sizes. I especially love the battered sausages as they come in jumbo size! The chips are packaged in cardboard boxes preventing the chips from 'sweating' and keeping them warm for longer. There is also a dining in area...

If you are looking for good fish and chips, this is a worthy place. Not fancy or posh by any means, but they turn out large portions of good fish and really good chips.

Best chips in Saffron Walden, if not Essex. They always taste fresh and are not greasy, which makes them taste weirdly healthy! Cod and other items on the menu are very good too. Hope they don't make any changes to the quality of their ingredients...

Freshly cooked, skinned fish fillets in crispy batter with huge portions of chips. Excellent quality and extremely enjoyable. For lunch-time visitors there are special deals for pensioners.
