Firepit in Swale

Superb. The food and the service. Yes, it's expensive, but the quality, quantity and unique preparation was immaculate. We chose three starters; Yellowfin tuna tartare accompanied by fresh home produced tortilla chips, Beef fillet tataki and enormous, juicy freshly cooked tempura prawns were excellent as starters. All had brilliant flavoured Asian accents. For the two mains we chose Korean sea bass, beautifully presented with a crisp exterior (and I'm not usually keen on sea bass), and an exquisite crispy lamb both with a extremely tasty flavoured sauce. Sticky Thai fried rice to accompany the dishes. No dishes could be faulted. Our only complaint: The venue is in a huge complex, with a second restaurant and a golf range. Huge free parking, but very busy and crowded. But just one disabled parking space, which of course was not indicated so we have no idea if it had been filled.

My partner booked the Firepit as we were staying overnight at the Cave hotel for my birthday. The menu looked good online so I was excited to try out the restaurant. Suffice to say, we ended up ordering room service after we left as I was so hungry. The restaurant is visually stunning. It looks and feels very luxurious and opulent. I thought this was a good sign but things went rapidly downhill. The staff were welcoming, friendly and professional. They were also very attentive and explained the menu as a sharing one, so one dish is supposed to serve two. We were given a small bowl of miso broth. We both really enjoyed this and looked forward to the actual food coming out. First to arrive were the beef skewers which were fine. They were not memorable but at this point, we were still optimistic that a full on feast was about to begin. This is where my hopes were dashed. Firstly a lot of the food that arrived was cold or tepid. I don't think this was down to delay by the waiting staff as there were quite a few of them and they are attentive. Secondly on what planet are the dishes meant for sharing? The lamb (£35!) contained 6 pieces of small lamb so three between us. In fact we left most of it because we didn't enjoy the flavour which managed to be bland and awful at the same time. Even the brocolli dish, a cheap vegetable, contained around 5 small pieces. Value for money is not a thing in this restaurant. Finally and most importantly, the taste and textures of the food were all over the place. I love food and eat practically everything but I couldn't eat the food we ordered. Everything seemed off. The temperature, the different tastes and textures that didn't compliment each other in the same dish! I was really disappointed and wanted to leave without eating much. It was obvious from the amount of food left over that we had not enjoyed it but staff ignored this fact and didn't comment on it. As we returned to our hotel, the hotel manager asked if we enjoyed our meal. We half heartedly said it was fine but she suggested it wasn't to our taste in a way that indicated it was something she heard a lot. We ended up ordering room service (amazing 24hr service from the Cave hotel) which was absolutely fantastic. I don't understand this restaurant concept at all. If it's a sharing menu then the dishes should feed 2 people not sized for 1 person. I also don't understand the positive reviews for the food unless we went on a particularly bad day because in my opinion, whoever came up with the menu has no talent in understanding flavours. I was left asking was it me? The whole experience felt like a prank.

We stayed at Cave hotel on our anniversary and booked Firepit for dinner one night. Restaurant has an ambience to it. Lovely decor and mood lighting. Perfect for a romantic dinner. We ordered sea food and vegetation items. The only comment I have is restaurant doesn’t cater halal or kosher food which is a let down. There is a huge market for halal meat and if it is added to their menu , restaurant as well as cave hotel will see an uptake in bookings. We had to check and ask for food which doesn’t include alcohol or meat. Staff were helpful and they checked with chef to ensure there was no contamination.

A bit out of the way but well worth the drive. The ambience, staff and food are first class. The prices are very reasonable.

I Had really been looking forward to visiting the firepit restaurant, but left dissatisfied and won’t be returning. The restaurant itself is a welcoming environment, and has clearly been thought about in its design. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The issue is with the prices charged and the dining experience. We ordered 2 small dishes as starters which consisted of beef skewers and voodoo shrimp, when they arrived the 4 skewers were small( the size of a finger) and lukewarm and were just coated in sesame seeds(£15). The voodoo prawns totalled 4( shelled) in a sauce served on a spoon(£14). Nothing special at all. The main course consisted of 2 dishes, crispy lamb(£35) which was a bowl of lamb slices cooked in crispy batter covered in a sauce with a side dish of cold vegetables in a marinate and 4 small pancakes. The second dish was belly pork(£25) with a small dish of soy sauce. Side dishes were ordered as mains do not come with any accompaniment namely fried potato(£12) and fire roasted cauliflower(£10). All dishes arrived together but the pork and the cauliflower were cold. Not lukewarm but cold. We asked for them to be sent back new dishes requested but by the time they had arrived my wife had finished her meal and I then had to eat mine alone. The food was tasty but nothing special and again for the prices charged was just really disappointing in quality. The pork especially as it consisted of 8 pieces of thin belly pork slices, which I could replicate at home( and I’m not known for my cooking expertise..!!) When we came to pay we did receive an apology for the cold food but was just expected to pay the full price without question. We challenged this and was told the service charge would be removed, as this was already added to the bill. In conclusion it’s a pleasant place to spend an occasion but falls well below the standard of food you would expect for the prices charged, and serving cold food to customers is a basic mistake which could result in food hygiene issues resulting in illness, which is the last thing any establishment would want to do. I can’t recommend and won’t be returning.

We were there the first week after it opened and it was fantastic. Love the food and the way it's presented. Nothing to fault at all. Once word gets out there will be a long waiting list so keep it to yourself!
