In the decade since I visited the place has evolved. Large indoor seating area, outdoor pergolas and hammocks. Still very busy with the cyclists as it’s the only place in the west of the island. Loved the house music stickers and classic Pacha calendar in the gents. So initial impressions not good as I dared to ask the dark haired lady where to order. She was very short and rude. Shame on me for thinking that the indoor bar and serving area with till is where you would order items? Fair enough. Burgers and chips and cheese were good and there was a small selection of beers. The three lads on the till and ice cream were fine. Our food was served to us by the grumpy lady and again it seemed like an inconvenience. If she is the owner she maybe doesn’t like customers and earning money. If she is just staff I would get some retraining. This place is the only show in town on the west of the island and is a gold mine. At least smile as you maintain a monopoly.

Had to ask after waiting a while if we were to seat ourselves or wait. Got a table. Waited far too long for the order to be taken by a rude and bored member of staff. After waiting nearly half an hour for a burger and soup, without even drinks on our table when asked how much longer it will be, to be told the ticket did not print out so we would have to wait even longer. The establishment is lovely and the views incredible. Not any good though if the service is diabolical.

Ate here a few months ago on a Saturday night and was very impressed with the food and service. Unfortunately it seems to have gone progressively downhill on each visit (3 in total) since then. Today’s was particularly disappointing. The place badly needs a deep clean-the floor and surfaces were covered in crumbs and there were 3 dying wasps on the window ledge. The glasses had dirty marks and my plate had a white hair on it. Food was generally mediocre and the tomato soup wasn’t edible. Staff inattentive too and seem very young. Sadly won’t be returning.

Visited yesterday with two young children. Had coffee and ice cream and planned to sit outside. Unfortunately there were swarms of wasps, which made this impossible. We asked to sit inside until the children finished their ice cream and we were met with rude staff. Although a few wasps are expected when sitting outside, there are hundreds of them all around the bins and sheltered seating area. Overall an unpleasant experience and worth holding on until you get to the ritz for ice cream and coffee!

Stopped in for eats after doing what everyone does and cycled round the island. The weather was nice so outdoor area was busy. The hand written menu proclaimed a variety of light meals and soup etc.We opted for soups and toasties. After waiting an eternity the young waitress started to drip feed us the food. My wife initially commented that the lentil soup was ‘off’, as did the others as it came. The consistency was akin to porridge & grout, horrendous!! The Brie toastie smelled horrid and butter was not the best. I had Scotch Pie beans and chips: safe bet?? No, the pie could have sunk a fishing boat as it was days old and very hard. If you can’t get beans and chips right I’d pull the shutters down now! They were passable.I guess the amount of holiday weekend visitors surprised the owners but that ranks as some of the worst food ever purchased. £40 for the privilege.

On both occasions we have waited an inordinate time for service. One poor guy trying to do it all!. On the first occasion we were told staff had called in sick. If this place hopes to stay open longer than this season they are going to have to seriously rethink their concept. Waited in a queue yesterday for 30 mins to order at the counter before leaving as there was one clueless man serving at the counter and took 5-10 minutes per person - we were 20th in the queue so didn’t have a hope of being served. Hapless children wander around bringing food to tables with no service, clearly no training and look lost. Bizarre where there is a table that sits about 20 - I suppose its mean to be for communal dining but no one using it. Have someone on the ice cream counter / and table service inside as this concept you have is nothing short of a disaster

Been to high tide cafe a few times now, under new management, and have loved it every time. Found all staff to be efficient and welcoming and the food we have had has always been delicious. Bacon rolls this morning were just perfect and the views are to die for. It was very busy when we were in at the weekend, yet I think they coped very well under the pressures this can bring. Will definitely continue to return for more delicious food.

Very disappointing. Busiest weekend in the Largs calendar and this poor pub/bar/restaurant was ill equipped to cope with the footfall. Been a couple of years since I have been in this facility, but very sad to see the demise of a lovely wee local. The place was filthy dirty, food would take over 1 hour and bar staff unable to manage queues at the bar. Hope the next time I visit this review will help them constructively to put the appropriate measure in place to restore the reputation of not just my opinion but the opinion of fellow customers.

We played two rounds at Lamlash on the weekend of 10th May and really enjoyed the experience. Relatively short course, but by no means easy and some tremendous scenery to view throughout. We were fortunate to have great weather as well. We were well looked after by Drew at the Starters Box on Friday and again by James when we played on Sunday. Sincere thanks to both gentlemen for looking after us. If we are back to Arran again for golf we will for sure play Lamlash. Would not hesitate to recommend.

Drinks one visit, delicious meal the next. Besides the great food and service on our visits, I lost my glasses there and didn't realise until I got home. Not only did the Ormidale staff find my glasses, they also took the time to phone and let me know and post them to me. Above and beyond. We would highly recommend The Ormidale for its service, atmosphere, food and after care of careless customers! Thank you.

Using a retirement voucher and had an early evening dinner. Decor lovely, staff very pleasant. Pity the food doesn’t match. Couldn’t eat the batter on the butter chicken as it was brick hard, onion rings hard , chips tasteless and again overcooked. Steak pie - top layer of steak was burnt and inedible. Starter bread was tasty. Took far too long to be served despite being almost empty. We mentioned to the waitress about our food and we were only charged for drinks and bread. Whilst this is a great gesture, our evening was ruined. Not be back any time soon. Such a shame as it has the potential to be excellent.
