Really enjoyed the cod and chips. It's all made fresh and the staff are friendly. The prices are reasonable and you can dine in as well.

This Restaurant is very clean , everything is on point. Restaurant owners is also nice , friendly and they talk with their customers with a smily face . So I’ll start with this, my Nan & I didn’t even eat in here. We’ve never tried their food because of a few reasons. We planned to eat in here after we did some shopping, we arrived & the shop smell that filled the air was an old oil smell like it hasn’t been changed for a long time. It was terrible and I didn’t enjoy breathing it in. We sat down and ordered, and we were told it’s 10% charge more on the price to just sit down in there to eat our food. We wasn’t impressed with the prices for a start. My Nan made a point of the 10% charge being unnecessary so the waitress walked off, after being told by my Nan that we’ll give their food a try regardless of their extortionate prices and pointless dine in charge. We sat there waiting for more than 10 minutes, waitress returned to us asking if we wanted our food or not, They hadn’t even begun cooking our food despite being given the go ahead. They told us it would be a long wait so we just decided to get up and leave. The place was empty, there were only 2 customers sitting together and on my way out I had a glance at their place and the food looked less than average for the price. The menu prices aren’t clear, things that come with chips aren’t stated or made clear in the menu. The place had an awful smell and quite frankly we are glad that we didn’t waste a single penny in this place. The atmosphere was bad, the music in the background was bad. We were just annoyed the minute we sat down. I couldn’t believe the prices of these dishes considering I’ve seen cheaper fish & chips with better quality and better taste/smell in more run down shops without the fancy music and fancy vinegar pots. Don’t waste your time or money in here, how this place even reached 5 stars from ANY customer is beyond me.

Lovely quality food, tasted fresh. I had cod and chips with mushy peas. Service was friendly and helpful. Food was well packed for collection.

It was my first time ordering a takeaway meal at lunchtime. The fish and chips were so fresh and yummy and very good value! The restaurant was sparkling clean, and i will definitely be taking my family and friends next time. Keep up the good work 👏

Nice fish and chips. Better when cooled down because the frying oil has an interesting taste. The tartare sauce provided was very nice as it had a strong dill taste.

One of the best fish and chips meals I’ve had in a lonnnggg time!! I was visiting England for the first time and of course had to have fish and chips many times. But my meal here was by far the best fish and chips ever! I had haddock and chips. The fish was cooked to perfection. The batter was nice and crispy. The chips were to die for!! So well done yet perfectly fluffy and satisfied my craving for good chips all in one bite. The staff here are lovely. The gentleman who made our food greeted us with a big smile and wonderful energy. It was so refreshing to enter a food joint and be greeted with such happiness. The restaurant dining space is spotless and cozy. If you’re staying in Sutton, you need to come here!!

I don’t know why this place doesn’t have better reviews!! I had the Cod and Chips with Curry sauce on the side. 10/10 meal. The chips were so fluffy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. The cod batter was perfectly crunchy with a light and flakey interior. Not greasy at all. I enjoyed how bright the space was. I sat in to eat and would definitely come to get fish and chips again!! Let me start by saying I am a fish and chips snob. I grew up in a small coastal town in Scotland where the fish you got in a supper was very likely landed that same morning. It was caught, cleaned, filleted and fried within about six hours; so fresh it is hard to get it wrong. My benchmark for fish and chips includes (amongst others) the Anstruther Fish Bar, East Coast in Musselburgh and Alanda’s. All three are consistently rated top of the tree across the UK for chippies, and these are my default. I am, and I admit it freely, an arse when it comes to fish and chips. I try chippies wherever I am, from the revered beachfront huts in Tynemouth down to back-street outlets in Eastbourne (and a few late night venues in Glasgow - that’s not for discussion today). I have been known to prattle on about how it is impossible to get good fish at any non-coastal location, since freshness equals quality. Finnegans in Sutton has shut me right up. It was cooked to order, so I had to wait about eight minutes. I wandered back to my hotel with low expectations. This is a high street chippy in a very down at heel location. Sutton is lovely; Sutton High Street is a bit rough and ready. But the food was brilliant. Hot and crispy fish with no greasiness, delightful well-cooked chips, and plenty of both. My feedback is simple: don’t worry about adding the lemon. Lemon and vinegar are traditionally added to counteract the grease associated with deep-fried food. Yours is so well cooked that the addition of acidic condiments is simply not necessary. Second, and a very personal request, please investigate adding chip-shop sauce to your repertoire. In and around Edinburgh, we don’t do salt and vinegar, we do salt and sauce. A good chippy sauce is enough to elevate mediocre food to a higher plane. Add it to your menu and I’ll get your logo tattooed on my chest. If you want a good example, the sauce at the Anstruther Fish Bar is as good as any I have tried. And they sell it by the bottle… I will definitely be back, whether you add sauce or not. Ps. The only reason I can’t give high marks for atmosphere is that I couldn’t take my order and go sit on the harbour to watch seals and dolphins while I eat.

I try today grilled cod, to be honest best fish in the town. Really delicious and very fresh as well. Highly recommend.

Very nice food well behaviour Overall everything good

Firstly I've got to say this is all an issue of price for me I only bought 2 large portions of chips and although they weren't fantastic, they were ok. I weighed the chips on my digital scales and got just over 500g in each portion. This is about 50% less than what I usually get from my local chippie in Essex Now for what upset me. £11.20 for 2 undersized large portions of chips. I know we have experienced massive food inflation but my local only charge £4.50 and give me 50% more product. I think at these prices this place is ripping off their customers. I can get a 25kg sack of potatoes for £16 from my local farm shop so I'm not sure how they can justify charging £11.20 for 1kg of chips I've just moved to Sutton and this place is already on my don't go list

I would like to say thank you for making my dinner wonderful. My wife was very happy after the food. All staff in restaurant is very welcoming. Really enjoyed the time. Highly recommended to have good time with best food in town.

The fish was fresh and tasty, didn't enjoyed the chips much, not the best I have tried... The lady served us with smile which was good but later on when we had our take away we unwrapped the food just to find out that we are missing forks and tissues, which was odd for a take away order! I've called them back to leave them verbal feedback,so they remember to Always add forks and tissues to the take away orders. For that reason we are leaving 3 stars out of 5.

My friends and I, a group of four, went to dine at Finnigans last Friday. We found the food absolutely disappointing. Compared to our previous visits to Finnigans, taste and quality of the food are lost especially the fried fish which is not fresh and deliberately overdone. It is the worst fried fish we have ever had. While many eating-out places are piling along Sutton High Street, there are no compelling reasons for returning to this place again. A few friends who recently visited Finnigans have similar unpleasant experience!

I ordered through Just Eat, but the food I received was incredibly disappointing. It made me feel physically ill, especially considering I'm pregnant. I won't be returning to this place again after this experience. I've attached photos of my order as evidence. I highly recommend avoiding this place altogether.

2 fish and chips meals for 38 pounds if you want to eat in, the most expensive traditional meal I have ever had. Just across the road Morrisons finish and chips for 5 pounds and as good if not better.

Had a terrible meal today. My husbands chips were hard , the fish tasteless. My steamed fish was so bland and tasteless, the new potatoes were brown inside and the frozen veg soggy. Very expensive. Unfortunately will not go back.

We are seniors in our mid 70’s and have dined at top end restaurants (Le Gavroche, Langans, Wolseley etc). We had been for a lovely afternoon out yesterday and my wife suggested that we go to Finnegans for fish and chips. I thought the prices were high, but things are different now and we just have to get used to it, and I have to say that the cod and chips was wonderful, and that I really enjoyed the experience.

A very big thank you for hosting a delicious lunch for a group of Ukrainians organised by the Sutton Volunteer Bureau. The food was plentiful and absolutely delicious. The staff worked so hard to ensure everyone had a good time. I thoroughly recommend this eatery very highly.

After attending a 6 week course on British culture, we decided to take our Ukrainians attendees for lunch. We had precooked the restaurant. Every effort was made to make this lunch a success and it was. Our visitors loved the food, even treated us to Ukraine folk songs. The food was delicious and the staff worked so hard to make the lunch a fun time.

Went to get a portion of chips to takeaway for me and my son to share. OMG the cost was 4.99 for an average portion. Now I appreciate cost of living impacts all and especially business, however 4.99 is not justified. The rip off prices just send inflation up. Shop is only for the super rich. Nothing special about the food. Not bad and not Great!

This was the first time I have been disappointed at Finnegans. The plaice was almost liguid in the middle.... not cold, but almost liquid. I have no idea what caused this, as the fish was white, as it should be. The chops were reheated or had been too long in the rabge, as they were not fresh fried. To be fair, the restaurant was very busy, but fish and chips here is not cheap, and I expected better.

Not very impressive considering the very high price. The cod was okay but the chips were small and bitty. Definitely wouldn't recommend because of the rip off prices.

Food was good but the service was rude and pushy the 4 of us had just finished our food but ordered more drinks then the bill was given to us and then we had not finished our drinks and was asked to pay then before we left they started to clear and wipe the table down not happy with this kind of pushy service and there were empty tables with no one waiting to eat

In August I came down for a holiday in Sutton to be close to two excellent friends who I met in Corfu in August 2019. Towards the end of my holiday I thought I would try Finnegan’s Fish and grill . My order was for haddock and chips and when I had them brought to the table I was pleasantly surprised by the appearance of the batter on the fish. The batter was a thin one evenly coating the fish with a nice smooth appearance and when the batter was broken into the haddock was a clean and amazingly white colour and so beautifully fresh to eat. All the condiments and sauces were available . The service was extremely pleasant and the meal itself was top class. I rate the place and the people highly. Add the quality of the food and I give it 5 stars Yes I did come back the day before I returned home and tried a large cod, chips,mushy peas, bread and butter and tea. The end result was a complete success. First class! My friends are coming on my recommendation.

At £11.30 for a regular cod and chips you would expect something nice for the price but they were awful! Soggy batter, chewy tasteless chips, possibly the worst fish and chips I've ever had from a fish and chip shop and they have the cheek to charge ridiculous prices!!

For the price, Finnigans is great. I have ordered the saveloy and chips several times and it is always of a good quality - but it is not ‘excellent’. My partner ordered the cod and said it was a nice meal. Definitely worth using Finnigans if you ever want a fairly priced meal.

Been ordering from Finnigans for quite some time, but tonight’s chips were deeply disappointing, looking and tasting more like oven chips than the actual chip shop variety. They were flat and almost all of uniform size, as if produced in an industrial machine rather than traditionally cut - dare I say, bought in from elsewhere. The portion was much smaller than usual and came in a cardboard tray, rather than the usual paper wrapping. Is the shop under new management? I think I’ll be trying another chippy with more traditional methods next time.

Don’t bother, if you like watery fish and tasteless chips this is the place to go, still got a horrible taste in my mouth 3 hours later. Should have stuck to super fish in cheam all ways good there
