Excellent steak good value for money.

Stopped here on a road trip.. seemed a nice lively family friendly place. The dinner i ordered was huge and was lovely

We came here during our holiday in Wales as a family of four. We cannot recommend this place enough! The staff are very friendly & nothing is ever a problem. As for the food. We had fish & chips & it really is probably the best in Wales. I could not fault 1 bit of it & very reasonable on price. If you are in Barry or in Wales make sure you give this place a visit.

Visited here last Saturday night on a family weekend reunion We were a party of 16 ladies, mostly Brummies, but were joined by our Welsh cousins and some of their friends We'd already had a fabulous meal at Cozy Tapas, so it was all about the drinking, dancing and singing when we arrived - it did not disappoint 😀 Bar staff were friendly and efficient, we were made really welcome by Paul - sorry not sure if owner or manager - but was lovely to meet you and thank you for the drinks on arrival ! There was a singer on who kept us all entertained, the locals were friendly and was a great atmosphere, security were visible and it felt very safe We really enjoyed ourselves and would definitely make a return visit next time we're in Barry ❤️

Despite arriving two minutes after dinner service had ended, we were warmly welcomed by server Josh Young. He was all alone at the bar assisting 8 other people, and still went above and beyond to assist us throughout our visit, making the experience truly enjoyable. If I could give 6 stars for service, I would. The staff truly carry the whole place. Highly recommend!

Had fish and chips and other half had chilli con carni with rice,, food is top notch miles better then what they sell on the sea front and better then most on here and way better the most weather spoons only bad thing music a bit loud for diners (but that’s just me I’m old

Nice place but shame about food and service. Went to order food at bar and the bartender swore at waitress which was very unprofessional in my opinion. When food arrived it looked nice but not only did I get a mouthful of grease when I ate a chip but my southern fried was the same....really greasy!! The only nice thing was their own coleslaw.

Seems like a nice enough place in terms of child friendly and nice staff but the fish was awful. Probably the worst fish I'd ever had. Was nothing to it. Mainly batter and dry fish. Very disappointing.

I only eat fish and chips when at the seaside, and I still never really enjoy it! This fish however was absolutely delicious - fresh succulent fish and a very light batter which wasn't greasy. Delicious.

Was going to order food for the family but was put off with most people vaping around us so I would not recommend to any one as smoking and vaping in a place where children dine isn’t very nice

Rude customer service ruined our experience here. Everyone’s meal except for mine came out, after around 10 minutes I went to the bar to ask where my meal was. I spoke to a young girl working behind the bar who then pulled a face, walked away and said nothing to me. I was left stood there not knowing whether to go back to my table or wait there. A few minutes later I saw her coming out of the kitchen with my meal and put it on my table. My friends said that she didn’t say anything when she put it down, no apology or anything. I went back to the table and when she walked past I confronted her about leaving me stood there without saying anything. She denied this. But I’m not deaf, unless she whispered it, she didn’t say anything to me. I also then told her she hasn’t even apologised on behalf of the kitchen for the delay. She still didn’t apologise and instead just continued arguing that she hasn’t done anything wrong. Great food (when I eventually got it) but her attitude ruined our experience and we wouldn’t recommend this place purely because of her lack of customer service skills.

Looked around Barry island in a few chippys which didn’t look good , went to finnegans and was a great move , fantastic grub , service, highly recommended

Great wee pub, we had a crackin afternoon dancing/singing along to some dukebox tunes with the staff and locals. Sparky looked after us and made us feel really welcome, great craic, Cheers Sparky 🇮🇪

Did not actually get a chance to sample the drink or food due to being completely ignored at the bar. My husband and I went in after a long walk for drinks and meal however when we approached the bar we didn’t get any acknowledgement. There was a lady at the bar fixing something with the till and then another lady came behind the bar. Still no acknowledgement despite being stood there. Another customer came and stood next to us, the First Lady behind the bar took her order whilst the other lady went to the other end to serve another customer. Both then came back to the till which was where we were stood, again nothing, not even a look in our direction. After a few minutes we decided to walk out. Absolutely appalled - not only did other customers get served in front of us, we were just ignored. Maybe as we were not local?

Ordered a rare steak, was bl***y amazing, perfect, best chips and felt defeated onces eaten, amazing food, honestly gorgeous and great staff

Came down to barry island for the day and honestly I was absolutely blown away by this place. The service was friendly and chatty and overall a great vibe but the food is honestly a must try, everything was fresh and it puts fancy restaurants to shame. Overall this place is a must try.

I was pleasantly surprised with how good the food was here. In all honesty, I wasn't expecting much, but myself, my partner, and two friends all loved the food.

Food wasn't very nice. The coleslaw looked unpalatable and the tomato ketchup and vinegar were past their sell by date so wouldn't use them. It said it had 5 star hygiene rating which I'm surprised about as you are not supposed to have condiments out of date

I enjoyed the homemade burger with slaw. I'd return if I'm in Barry again. Great hospitality and free WiFi as well.

Ellie and all the staff was wonderful, the environment is so nice, the only problem is that the pool table is too close to the food table, but that’s ok, extra difficult!!!!! Love them

After years of passing by, watching queues waiting to be served, I finally decided to try Finnegans Fish Bar. It will be my last time. The serving size is tiny. The price is too high for the size. And the taste is not particularly good. I'm guessing they're happy to pump out low quality food because of their good location, knowing that many people will come regardless.

The food here is always delicious, especially the giant fish and chips! They have a nice cocktail selection and the price of everything is very reasonable. Very child friendly too, all the staff are lovely especially to my baby which is a nice touch. The only negative thing is the loudness of the music, the selection is great but it is very loud so you have to shout to talk to each other.

Ordered pulled pork burger and chips (£13) along with a shandy (£5). Burger was extremely disappointing, not much taste to it. Chips are really good! I’d eat here again just for the chips. £5 for a shandy is extremely steep! The only place I’ve ever been charged a fiver for a shandy was in london, so I can now add Barry to the list. Music was fairly loud but not too much of an issue. Seemed to be some locals in there also people with dogs. I would eat here again but I’d try something different

Recently visited with my husband and 7 year old niece (who is a picky eater). We stopped in for a spot of lunch. All 3 of us had burgers (kids meal for the little one) and we was pleasantly surprised. The food was lovely and freshly cooked and the service from the lady behind the bar was exceptional. Super personable l. Food was delivered quickly and excellent value for money

Great food I had the fish and chips, the chips were lovely and the portion for the fish was great I got a small fish but it was quite big so definitely worth it! lovely food and i recommend the chips they're better than other places, only thing is that the food was a bit too greasy but that's it.

Had the pulled pork smash burger, even though I finished it along with the chips and slaw it was literally the worst. The "home-made" slaw was sloppy and gross, the burger completely fell apart, the meat tasted slightly strange and the pulled pork had no flavour at all, my wife didn't even finish her meal, the only reason I finished mine was it had already been paid, disappointed to have come somewhere on vacation to eat such bad food, and the chips are super oily, I don't know what kind of pallets the people who gave high reviews of the food have, but it's not right. I don't recommend and won't be back thankfully.

No savaloys. Chips were roapy, sausages were mushy, reheated pie was OK. Previous reviews have been good, so maybe I just caught them on a bad day.

Went to the fish n chip place, Hands down the worst fish and chips we’ve ever had. Didnt taste any chips, all you could taste was days old frying oil. The oil is clearly that old the chips are actually brown!! Horrendous. The sausage wasnt cooked, the batter fell off before it was even out of the bag. Dont waste your money. 90% of it went into the bins. RANK is an understatement

Absolutely fab food beautifully cooked and presented - compliments to the chef Leanne will definitely return, fully recommended ! Pork schnitzel very tasty especially with peppercorn sauce yuuum

I thoroughly enjoyed my food. The steak was tender and very tasty. The staff were friendly and guided me through the menu, I could tell they were passionate about their job. Shaz the shift manager was really nice and remembered the drinks we had previously ordered. Overall a lovely experience in a local family run pub.

Only went in for drinks . It was OK but with the dogs allowed in there I don't think I would go back in a hurry. The smell was over powering due to so many damp dogs who had been out in the rain and the sea. It wouldn't have been to bad if they had a place for people where the dogs wasn't allowed. Great atmosphere and very busy

Had the roast dinner, to say this is the best roast dinner I have had in a very long time is an understatement. The beef was cooked with a hint of seasoning and the roast potatoes were banging. I would definitely recommend this please to everyone.

Best steak I've had outside of speciality restaurant. Cooked to perfection. Big bit of steak at pub prices. Would happily had that at pastures.

Asked for just a plain steak and chips no veg or anything on the steak. It came out peppered with 2 lots of veg on the plate,the steak was also sliced into pieces. When the waitress asked at the end if it was OK I pointed at the veg and said I had asked for that to be left off,to be told that's how it comes,never had this problem elsewhere 😒

The food is lovely they cook fish when you order so it's fresh and piping hot. We only used the take away not the sit in they do over sixties menu as well

Both the service and food were horrible. Uncooked sausage, the fish was dry. I’ve ended up with food poisoning. Will make sure to tell others to stay clear of this place when visiting Barry.

the food was surprisingly incredible. everything tasted great. i tried the fish and chips along with the sticky toffee pudding and i completely recommend it all. the staff was very friendly and the service was quick! a great food spot!

A lovely little pub, I just went there with my girlfriend and we had some lovely grub! The staff and pub-goers were very nice (shout-out to Simon) and I was very glad there's karaoke! Definitely coming back!

staff are not good, they take ages to cook the chips, i didnt ask for salt and they put salt, didnt ask for sausage they charged me. Horrible place.

So we got there picked the carvery meal. Then went to the bar to have people that came in after us served first. Not a great selection of drinks either. Then the food came out it was luke warm and tasted like microwaved food. For a carvery you expect good decent food. Not alot of choice either for food and desserts. Tbf after the appalling food we didnt stop for pudding. If it hadnt been that I desperately needed to eat for my blood sugars and couldnt wait we would of complained.

How this place ranks higher than a 3 star is beyond. Blonde staff women behind the bar looks like a ghoul with a foul attitude and stank breath. The place was basically empty which reflected the thoughts in the staffs heads. Nothing. Was told to never come back because I used the toilets but didn’t plan on coming back because the whole place was dirty, drab and dismal. Hope it turns around but in a place like that with the staff they have, i won’t be holding my breath, unless I’m using the toilets again.

A busy venue located opposite the main fairground on Barry Island. The venue has plenty of seating, TV screens with Sky and BT sport and they also serve food. Food seems a little expensive and uninteresting, mainly chippy-style fast and fried food. Cash is preferred here, as with most old-school venues, but card is accepted. Staff were polite, drinks prices reasonable. A mixture of a classic pub feel and a tourist hotspot.

Staff lovely, atmosphere is great with music and pool at the top just sad about the quality on the food for the price. £14.00 for pork schnitzel and the chips were the chip shop chips which you can pick up a bag for like £2.

I would award this chip shop worst for chips in the UK! Awful chips won't be visiting this place ever again that's for sure. They need to get their food quality standard improved. My advice is to not bother at all.

Awful fish and chips. Worst in Barry. Won’t ever go back. 🤢 Strange texture and taste. So so so greasy. Utterly Inedible. Went straight in the bin. What a waste of £20+ on two fish and chip dinners. I think the chips were refried (not in a good way) because they were absolutely saturated in grease. The overall portion itself was reasonable but the large fish was much smaller than other local chip shops. Side order of mushy peas was wrong too, opened to find it was curry sauce.

Way overpriced just because it's on the island.
