Would give less if it was an option. Arrived with my wife and two young grandchildren, given a table and menu. It was just after 5 pm, there were only 2 other people in the restaurant. It was cold inside and after 15 min of being ignored we left, without even being asked if all was well. Absolutely no idea why they are open.

Yet again it has changed its name, only this time the standards have dropped considerably. In the last 3 years it has been Tapa Organic, Finestra, and now, Cook and Baker. In previous incarnations, the standards remained constant, but not now. I don't understand what has gone so wrong here, even the cycling clubs have abandoned it and moved 50 yards down the street. Now we have very slow service, disinterested staff and it appears to be pot luck with your order.

appalling service after 20 mins still hadn’t been served my soup of the day, bare walls, bare counter poor selection menu - even worse if you are vegetarian this used to be a fantastic place and a regular haunt for me and the good lady alas no more can’t see this dump nor its incompetent staff lasting long and it will be no loss perhaps someone who knows what they are doing can take it over

Something’s changed in ‘Finestra’, and not just the name. Staff changes cannot all be described as a positive dimension of the “new” place. While friendly, there is, generally, a lack of enthusiasm, with visits now very much ‘hit or miss’ experiences. The quality of coffee is inconsistent, and the reported absence of some basic items is unacceptable. These are some of the reasons why standards have fallen. The positive news, though, is that the existing weaknesses could - and should - be easily addressed. Lower the cost of presently overpriced cakes; also, ensure that coffee is always piping hot, and consistently good, regardless of which staff member happens to be making/serving it. Music should be in the background to complement the ambience - not dominate the mood. Oh, and why not reinstate the customer ‘loyalty card’? Doing so will convey the basic message that clients are valued. Simple measures that, if taken on board, are likely to lead to a better all-round deal and experience for owner, staff, and customers. Failure to recognise such realities, and an unwillingness to take action is, sadly, likely to lead to the further demise of what is potentially a vibrant, welcoming feature of the village.

a spur of the moment trip and we needed coffee! This establishment was inviting and we were happy with both the comfy sofa which looked out and the standard coffees we drank. The price was reasonable. Happy to give a good report. As for other folks - it was busy and I saw food being served.

In a town with a few nice places to eat, this is easily the poorest. Staff seem nice, but the food and coffee was really poor. Only went in because Cairn just down the street was so busy and I was in a hurry to get served. Got a flat white that was more water than anything else and a stale, claggy bit of cake. Waste of money. Avoid. There are other places within stone throwing distance that are worth your cash.

I would never normally leave a bad review for anything but I feel almost disgusted at the overpriced coffee and cake I had the other day with my husband. I have no idea what has happened to the prices, save yourself the bother and have the same in your house for a fraction of the price! Rip off.

Really long wait for an average breakfast that I could have made better at home. I ordered the Scottish breakfast which did not even come with a potato scone, it was just a breakfast there was nothing especially Scottish about it. Both of our hot drinks had hairs on the cups. We won’t be back.

Visited again recently and was surprised to learn that the place had changed hands. New name will be "Cook and Baker" The menu has been revised and added to which is great. We had burgers which were quite nice but slightly dry - we asked about not having a choice of how the burger is cooked e.g. Medium but were told that they are only allowed to cook burgers well done for health and hygiene reasons [unlike steaks] Anyway they were still nice. Staff very enthusiastic. Probably some more changes needed to draw in more custom and the competition is stiff in the village and will only get worse for them when the Pullman re-opens.

Been a regular here for a few years. Food and drinks always good and really nice staff. Went in today and till has been reprogrammed with huge price increases. Filled rolls were £2.50 yesterday, and £3.00 today - a 20% price increase. Menus still have old prices on them. Not the fault of the staff, but the owner's decision. On the way home - just happened to go into Lidls - what looked to be the identical same brioche burger buns, 4 for 79p, so not even a fresh or baker's roll sadly

Drove here for a warm coffee on a lazy rainy Saturday. We got a seat at the window and ordered breakfast and coffees, which were lovely! Staff are so friendly and chatty. Dogs are allowed in and they were really well behaved (and super cute!). Had a couple of vegan options for cakes - yay! Well recommended.

It keeps changing name and hands, but luckily for us the standard remains the same. It is a nice place for a relaxing lunch, but some people still seem to be treating it as an office. They do a good Pastrami and Pickle sandwich with a side salad, and, a nice soup and sandwich combo to suit most peoples tastes. The cakes and scones are great as well.

Wow homemade soup today took me back. It’s was as good as my Gran’s. Lentil and ham .... absolutely delicious. Great choice of cakes. Empire biscuits really tasty. Carrot cake was my Mum’s favourite. We will definitely be back.

This used to be one of my favourite coffee shops however the new owner allows dogs. I like dogs and have always owned one but they are inherently unhygienic and that’s just a fact of nature. Unfortunately some owners fail to appreciate this and allow their dogs to eat off plates and rest on the table.Visited today and there were three dogs in a confined small space. I had to leave as I couldn’t face consuming even a coffee let alone a pizza or sandwich. One thing remains consistent - the staff are lovely - efficient and very helpful.

For a quick bowl of soup and a sandwich for lunch, this must be one of the best places in the area but the pastrami sandwich is to die for! The selection of home-made soups is always changing and their “house” coffee is fantastic.

My wife loves this place and frequents with her friends regularly. Our daughter and I joined her one evening and we had pizza and I had some red wine (merlot)The pizza was thin and tasty - closest I had to being in Rome some time ago and the wine was both very pleasant and at a reasonable price. Will be back regularly!

Once again, the pastrami sandwich was phenomenal - the best outside NY. Great atmosphere on a very dank day and lovely hot, homemade soup.

First visit since change of ownership. I was pleased to see a vegan sandwich on the menu so ordered a Mediterranean veg sandwich on wholemeal bread to take on my hike today. Sadly the sandwich was literally bits of courgette, onion and pepper on boring bread. The veg wasn’t even really cooked and just fell out when I ate the sandwich. It was pretty disappointing for £5 and I’m not sure I’d be back- some pesto or other flavours would have improved it greatly.

Was dubious when this place changed hands again, but it's getting better each time I visit. A good choice of food, great and friendly service and a good location. The coconut cake is fantastic.

Had been before and ordered the poached eggs black pudding with hollandaise sauce but they had ran out of the sauce...Very dry !Ordered it again today on the understanding that it came with the sauce “ it does”...I was told. It came without cutlery, napkin or the sauce. Eggs Yokes were hard too. Don’t understand why they haven’t learned to make enough sauce to Last throughout the morning, or if there is no sauce left take it off the menu.Staff didn’t appear bothered either. “I didn’t make them, I only serve them” ♂️
