Average, overpriced. Katsu curry was basic. Not a place you would go for dinner. Would go back unless it’s was for a coffee.

Had been before and ordered the poached eggs black pudding with hollandaise sauce but they had ran out of the sauce...Very dry !Ordered it again today on the understanding that it came with the sauce “ it does”...I was told. It came without cutlery, napkin or the sauce. Eggs Yokes were hard too. Don’t understand why they haven’t learned to make enough sauce to Last throughout the morning, or if there is no sauce left take it off the menu.Staff didn’t appear bothered either. “I didn’t make them, I only serve them” ♂️

I met my cousin here for lunch and we were lucky to be shown to a booth table at the window. Excellent Covid measures in place such as a one way system and the usual precautions. The booth tables are tight but comfortable. Great choice on the menu and whilst we were not drinking as driving, could have quite happily sat there all afternoon with a bottle of wine. Plan to go back soon.

Having been regulars at Flava, this was the second time we have been back since it changed to Good Brew. The first time was dreadful but we thought we would give it a second chance. This is a decision that we both regret. We were unable to eat the food that we ordered, the "toast" was really just warmed bread and the eggs were awful, not to mention the sickening hollandaise sauce. Neither myself nor my friend were able to finish our food and left feeling ill. As for covid-19 restrictions, we felt very uncomfortable with the lack of screens and distancing between tables as we were sitting directly back to back with other customers just inches away, everyone felt very crammed. The menus were also clearly being reused without even being sanitised which is not in keeping with recent guidelines as other places use disposable menus or laminated menus so they can be cleaned. Despite this, the staff were friendly enough and the coffees we had were nice. Would avoid if you are wanting to enjoy your meal and pop over to one cove road instead.

We called in for a tea a cake, when the waitress came to take our order we asked if they had any scones, she said that she would go down stairs and see. She came back with 3 lovely scones with butter and jam. She the brought our drinks. The scones were the best we had tasted in a long time very light and tasty. All in all a really nice afternoon experience.

More than teething troubles here. Arrived 5 mins early with our elderly mum for our family lunch for 8 at our table - reserved for 1.30 today. On arrival were told by the young bar manager that they had forgotten to set our table and that other customers were now using it. He emphasised that he was not willing to ask the other customers if they would be prepared to move. After some requests and further less than polite exchanges we realised there was a total lack of customer care and service being provided. We decided it best to leave at this point. One elderly mother severely disappointed and incredulous at the lack of apology or customer care. However, Cafe Continental to the rescue, where we were very well received and cared for at very short notice. Food and service were exceptional.Suggest the staff at Flava, now called the River, find out where the Cafe Continental undertake their staff customer training and get their staff booked in for a course.Flava? Doon the ‘River’. Recommend you avoid this place.

The ‘new’ place seems to be experiencing some ‘teething’ problems or, hopefully, that is the explanation for its obvious weaknesses. The previous warm welcome, and good quality fare, is no longer a dimension of this eatery located in a prime Gourock setting. Prices are relatively high, and entirely unjustified in view of the disappointing quality and overall level of service. The area appears to have lost what was one of its best local attractions. As the saying goes, it can only get better. Surely.

My first visit after its refurbishment. Environment looked OK but preferred Flava with the comfy armchairs. Anyway, ordered mac n cheese with garlic bread and hand cut thick chips. I thought you can't go wrong with that yet it was absolutely disgusting. A child could have made a better meal. It looked like pasta floating in a watery orange sauce. Can't say cheese sauce because it didn't taste like cheese. It did taste like smoked ham which worried me as my daughter is vegetarian. I struggled to eat a third of it before leaving it. The cheese was so runny it soaked into the garlic bread that had been plonked on top. The chips were stale, and I will eat my cap (maybe preferable to this) if they wernt old and heated up in the microwave. They were tough and chewy so they also got left. On asking why the meal tasted like it did I was informed the 'chef'had used some smoked fruity cheese to make the sauce. It tasted nothing like macaroni cheese, just disgusting. I was offered an apology and asked if I wanted a dessert. As he didn't say 'Complementary' dessert or even a free drink I declined. I will not go back if they cannot even serve a decent basic meal with fresh chips that cost me nearly £30.

Ate in The River for the first time last night with a friend. First impressions were good. The place looks lovely, but the seating is too cramped. The servers were all friendly, but not the most attentive. Drinks orders were slow and extra drinks were not offered despite glasses running empty. When asked for the cocktail menu, one was brought to the table but server did not return to take an order. Eventually managed to order by asking another server. The menu was a bit disappointing. With the trendy name and decor, we were expecting something special, but it was just pub grub really. Burgers, steak pie, fish and chips, a curry etc.....nothing really wow. Our food arrived in good time and was nicely presented. Tasted nice enough. Ordered sticky toffee pudding...which lacked the sticky part. A little toffee sauce on a plate with a slice of cake on top isn't a sticky toffee pudding I'm afraid. Overall feeling underwhelmed.

My wife and I went for lunch under the new Good Brew refurb name. We sat waiting to be served and only due to the lack of attention realised it was our job to find a menu. We did that and were disappointed with the limited range on offer for lunch. Only after asking we discovered we had to go to the counter to order. (it used to be waited service) In doing that I was then informed I needed to pay on ordering so had to return to our table to get my wallet and back to line up to pay. Back to the table and then realised I had to pick up our own knives and forks and napkins etc. The food came and my wife and I found it OK but could have been warmer. After the meal the waitress came to pick up the dishes and asked if everything had been OK. My wife said the food could have been warmer. The waitress shrugged her shoulders and walked away. Better if she hadn't asked. Food and coffee prices are such that I would expect table service and a better menu. Won't be back although we used to go pretty often before the refurb. All I can say is the place has nice views if you can get a window seat. Much better places with good views too in Gourock.

Before the renovation we used to go here quite often - on our own or with friends. On a good day the views are fantastic. After what seemed a very long time of closure due to refurbishment, we were looking forward to the usual good experience. However we found the service to be on the slow side. They could do with at least one more person serving. There were no menus at the table to help us make our choice. The new practice of ordering at the till causes a bottleneck with other people making their choice from the food display. My husband had a scone but said it was very dry. My latte was fine. However £11.90 was a bit steep for a tea, a latte, a scone and a piece of traybake! It’ll be a while before we’re back at those prices.

Had coffee and scones here this morning. My friend’s scone had a hair in it and she returned it half eaten, explaining the problem, saying she was put off and wouldn’t want another. However, we were offered no explanation, replacement or refund. When we enquired as to what was being done about it, we were informed that we didn’t want another scone, so really nothing at all was being done, but the kitchen had been informed. We then asked if at least a refund for the returned scone would be appropriate? This was given, although, I have to say, I was also put off my scone, which I left. I did ask if the manager was in and I was told he had been informed, but no one came to speak to us. Bad practice!

I live in Gourock and popped in very occasionally when it was Flava until we had children. Tried once and was advised they don't allow prams, buggies etc..etc..basically they have squeezed in as many covers in there as possible irrespective of the customer experience or those that wish to visit with children. The owner has since had children and that has weirdly changed, so after 9 months of closure, refurbishment we visited with kids and my sister and partner...nothing has changed, too cramped and poor quality, average food that was over-priced. 4 x sandwiches, 1 x soup 1 x chips 1 x juice and 3 x milkshakes = just under £50. On top of all this, the service / delivery model is terrible and we had wrong food brought twice, gave up and just eat it and left...I would recommend avoiding if you have kids or like decent food.

Visited today with my son. I had a coffee and cake with my son having a milkshake and cake. First time visiting in some time since refurbished. The refurbishment has been done to a very high standard, it’s really nice. As you go in, it does say take a menu, order at the till and take a seat. Although I found this very easy, some folk seemed to have difficulty understanding this! Coffee, Milkshake and cakes were excellent however, it’s very expensive. £3 for a very small bit of cake is not good value. Without being privy to their staffing it looks like a lot of young students who are learning what to do. No complaints from me though, they were all polite and even with it being very busy, we were served fairly quickly. Certainly could improve and I’m sure it will with time. Saying that, I was impressed and would visit again.

At the moment however having visited with friends it is struggling . We waited 45 minutes before we were served . The staff were very friendly but there seemed to be too many doing nothing or watching the barman making cocktails . The food was very average . The scallops were lukewarm served on a cold plate there was no option to add vegetables to our main courses , my steak pie was good meat but then a bit of pastry cooked separately ! It wasn’t busy. We waited and waited and waited - meanwhile I checked out the cakes - £3.50 for an empire biscuit £5.50 for a slice of cheesecake ! Clearly they’re hoping to recoup their losses after being closed for so long - this is robbery. We won’t be back - it’s a shame cos we did like it before it closed.

We visited here on a Sunday afternoon to get some lunch. There was no room down stairs so the girl called up stairs to check if there was space for us as we also needed a high chair. We were then told there was and got sent upstairs. No one met us up stairs so we selected a table got the high chair, strapped in the baby and sat down. Only then did the member of staff watching us come over to say we couldn’t sit there as it was too close to the fire exit. Fair enough, but he coulda came over as we we sitting down to save disturbing the baby again. He was nice enough just not very attentive which was a theme in this restaurant. We were given a new table next to the bar, it wasn’t clean and appeared to be used as a kind of work station by the staff as there was equipment stacked up in our window next to it. We got menus, which weren’t very professional looking - a piece of crumpled A4 paper. We ordered or food and drink and again service wasn’t that great. On waitress dumped the saucer for the coffee on the table whilst having a conversation with her friend and didn’t even look at us or acknowledge us. The food came within about 15/20 min and was actually quite nice, however, for the price paid I’d expect something a little bit bigger. We left still feeling hungry. We also had to go pay the bill at the bar (as did a couple of other tables) as nobody check back on us after our food or afterwords and the plates weren’t cleared. All in all the staff are all nice enough but some could do with a little more training. The food isn’t good value for money but is tasty. I wouldn’t say not to come as everywhere has its off days but I would give the place another try if I was in the area.

I visited Flava on Saturday with a couple of friends for breakfast. We were in the attic floor and it was not overly busy compared to the usual weekend, but the service was extremely slow. I arrived 5 mins before my friends followed, we then waited another 10-15mins before our orders were even taken (a table which just arrived after us had their orders taken first). We then waited another 30mins for food to arrive. At which point I noticed we were not the only tabling swirling empty glasses waiting for food to arrive. Inattentive service throughout as I tried to make eye contact with the staff the entire time so that I can order another drink as I finished the first long before the food arrived. As for the food, the breakfast is usually flawless, but my poached egg turned out to be hard-boiled and the Lorne sausage appeared to have a lot of ungrounded hard bits I had to spit out. Overall, not a great experience. Instead of constantly eyeing an expansion for the current premises, the management should really be focusing on the declining standard of food and service.

Slightly disappointed with the lunchtime menu as really only one starter (soup) available. We ended up sharing garlic bread, nachos and onion rings which were on the menu as side orders. The food was fine, though the service was absolutely chaotic when we arrived and we waited 20 minutes after ordering to be served with our drinks, most of us ordered wine which wasn't very cold. Still the service picked up as the day went on and I really think it was just down to a lack of bodies dealing with the amount of customers. Pleasant little coffee shop with stunning views across the Clyde. A bit pricey but not too bad. Easy to get to with plenty of parking nearby and good access to the local train station and ferry terminals to Dunoon. Could do with sharpening the kids pencils they put out. Mint milkshake was super tasty.

Often stop off here, staff really friendly food brilliant. It's on 2 levels coffee shop downstairs and more bistro style upstairs but you can still go upstairs and have coffee if downstairs to busy. Open in evenings as well. Fully licensed with viiews out of gourock across the Clyde.

Had lunch in Flava today with my kids. Very last minute decision as passing through Gourock and kids asking to stop for lunch. Food was excellent. Maybe only one suggestion. Mexican burger has chilli cheese. Much better with a spot of house chilli and normal cheese (personal preference). Staff lovely and friendly. Maybe staff using political party pens when taking orders not the most professional approach unless endorsement from management/owners? I saw paraphernalia along the same lines from other customers so maybe a hub for local activists? Otherwise lovely place and great food.

Visited here last Sunday and what a disapointment ! Waited a while for the staff to even acknowledge us never mind offer a menu. Ordered the small fish and chips and it is literally a kids portion - 1 tiny piece of battered fish and about 8 chips - and not cheap at almost £7 ! My daughter had the hot dog - which was like a trying to eat a piece of rubber, even using a knife could not even cut it - waste of £8. First time we had visited and won't be back. Over rated and over priced.

Went here for a quick bite and coffee. The decor is really nice and the views are incredible of the waterfront. The lunch menu has a wide selection and can easily find something to pick. The food quality does not suffer in the slightest. The lentil and bacon soup were incredible and the Cajun chicken and cheddar cheese panini was a perfect accompaniment. The coffee is hands down one of the best I've had only wish I had space for one of their cakes.

So my other half loves a good coffee house and he had been banging on about trying flava for long enough and we've just never got round to it. The reviews from friends gave me high expectations of the place and have to admit the views are magnificent. It took a while for the staff to acknowledge us they seems to busy gossiping, I ordered an urn bru and my fiancé a coke, we then ordered our food and when I went to pour my drinkI'd managed to half fill the glass when my attention was drawn to the lipstick mark on the glass, it took a good five minutes, and it wasn't busy ! before I could get the attention of the waitress and told her about the glass, she took the glass and not the can away with her to get a new one, on her return there was no ice or straw in the new glass and neither was there any offer to replace the now half empty can ! Normally I'd have said something but my mood was extremely delicate(bereavement) and I decided to keep quiet and enjoy the rest of he afternoon. So our food arrived and I looked at my ciabatta thinking it looks like flat bread ! Wafer thin almost ! It reminded me of fried bread, the texture and taste were like it had been deep fried although the griddle marks suggest it was annihilated with oil and pressed hard between toastie plates and cooked so long it burnt, the peppercorn sauce tasted like a packet mic it wasn't too great at all, the saving grace was the minute steak although for the price of the food on the menu it was very sparse. My other halfs small fish he said was lovely but by small it's like a kids portion at twice the price. Paid the bill and left without sampling the coffee and cakes we had originally went in for, why my friends rave about this place I have no idea, they clearly don't eat here and just come for the cocktails ! Won't be back in a hurry, such a shame as I try to support local places but overpriced and overcooked springs to mind. The atmosphere seems good when you walk in and looks like a fairly modern place to eat, well they must not have done any maintenance since it opened ! The downstairs toilet certainly has seen better days and I'm glad I went after I'd eaten because it was downright disgusting, cobwebs on the ceiling, dust on the soap dispenser and a rotten smell of urine that's clearly been there a while.

I really like the coffee that they serve in Flava and usually have no course to complain. The staff are always friendly and there is a nice atmosphere. However on two consecutive occasions over the past few weeks, I have got a take away latte which was al least 50% foam, the paper cup actually felt quite light. I should have taken it back but I stupidly carried on drinking it hoping that the coffee was there somewhere. When I took the lid off, the inside of the cup was a complete mess with mostly foam and not much coffee. I suspect what is happening is that at busy periods, they are not cleaning or swapping the milk jugs as often as they should. The result is coffee which is made up of the foam from the previous drinks that have been made together with fresh milk.I can make better in my own home. Please improve! There are now several good places in Gourock to get a coffee.

3 of the 5 of us chose "Pancakes with maple syrup"!!!! This is a firm favourite of mine but NOT HERE NOW!!! We got ONE pancake (not pancakes!!!) which was toasted & hard (couldn't eat edges which were rock hard). It was cut into 4 pieces which were balanced together (which I guess was to make it look more as there was only one!!!) It was then drizzled with golden syrup (on questioning why it wasn't maple syrup, I was told it was maple golden syrup!!!! She even tried to prove it to me by offering to get me the container!!! At end of day it wasn't maple syrup as stated on menu & tasted nothing like maple syrup (cheap alternative) 4th person asked for 2 slices of brown toast & only got one!! 5th person asked for a cooked breakfast which was fine. To spend £32 (including coffee) for only one out of 5 people to be satisfied is not acceptable! I complained at time but was still charged the full amount even though the pancakes were rock hard!! We will not be going there for breakfast again when we have so many other lovely places to choose from such as The Cafe Continental, Fresh and The Bakehouse. The waiting staff were lovely but the kitchen needs to up its game!!! Poor show & very poor response to my complaint at the time!

I do like Flava and have been going for many years. Staff are always friendly, view spectacular and cocktails lovely. Food nice too. Can be difficult to get a seat. However the coffee is overpriced and I now avoid it for that reason. To order a decaf soya latte (due to food intolerances) you get charged extra for the decaf (some other places do this) and the soya (never come across that anywhere). Come on Flava that's ridiculous- cheaper in Costa!

Flava is always a firm favourite of mine either to sit in for a coffee or to take away. The other night we booked a table as the cafe continental was fully booked. We weren't disappointed.A great seat with stunning views as our background, I settled on the Mexican burger with Cajun battered onion rings, my partner the sizzling spicy chicken with half and half rice and chips. My burger was thick, succulent and tasty, minced beef from McCaskies butchers..... the chicken dish equally tasty. And, the portions are great.Going to try a steak on my next visit as a friend of mine raves about them.

We were greeted with a smile and a welcome and found a table by the window. We had lovely soup and a sandwich. The soup was lovely and warm served with fresh crusty bread and our sandwiches made with lovely soft brown bread. Ingredients were very fresh, would recommend. Find a table beside the window if you can as the view is lovely.

A lovely place in Gourock for a coffee and quiche etc. Brilliant view over Clyde to junction of Lochs with plenty of boating activity. Try to get a table near the window as I did. Service helpful without being assertive and staff very friendly.

Easily the slowest service in Gourock to get a drink. Painfully slow. On top of which the miserable expression and attitude of the staff was enough to make me want to seriously never return. This was further amplified when i found out that the miserable member of staff was the owners Mother!!!!!!!!

My husband and I went in for lunch. I ordered the battered chicken burger (done in a tempura batter), which comes with fries, salad, coleslaw, house burger sauce. Husband ordered the steak burger which comes with the same. When the food came it looked lovely. Nice presentation, but wow the taste! The chicken burger was amazing. The batter was so light and crispy, the chicken was succulent and the sauce was lovely. The chicken was actually hanging out of the burger it was so large. The buns are brioche. The steak burger was 'the best burger I've ever had' according to hubby. I usually just go in for coffee but will definately be back for lunch/dinner

After recommendations my wife and I went for lunch and were bitterly disappointed. The initial service was good and staff attentive, however the kitchen staff let the side down. Having given our order to the friendly waitress, and although not overly busy we had to wait an extremely long time for our meals to arrive. Upon arrival the food looked as if the different elements were "bought in" and just requiring to be reheated. The food in all our dishes appeared to be of cheaper quality than the prices would indicate. The salmon and coriander fish cake was a good size but was greasy, predominantly potato, scarcely any salmon and could not detect the coriander, the side salad was limp. The waitress was very apologetic and a replacement was offered and again we had to wait an inordinate amount of time to receive a coronation chicken sandwich. The view from the window overlooking the firth of Clyde was the best part of our experience

Just wanted to say that Sweeney Todd was fantastic, and I’m so glad I got to see it! It’s clear how much love and work was put into this amazing production, and I’ve only just moved here from the states a few months ago, but I’ve already got a new favorite theater company. The cast was incredible, with such memorable performances across the board, and I look forward to seeing more from the Greenock Light Orchestra in the future.

Classic chip shop, one of the best around. Marco has been in the business since he was a youngster, he's still there for a good reason.
