Great little restaurant serving authentic, seasonal food and home made pasta! Why can’t more Italians do this! Good service, good prices, highly recommend.

Long day of sightseeing. We needed dinner for a picky 16 year old & 3 adults. Proprietor was able to pull together a dish to accommodate my kid - which allowed the rest of us to enjoy a fabulous dinner. The food was so good all our plates were cleared!!!

Driven past this place many times, I never knew it was a restaurant. Very cosy probably only fits about 20 people max. Excellent food and service reasonable prices and portion sizes are good. You must try the tiramisu.

Having just moved into a nearby apartment we picked this restaurant for dinner. We had a very good experience. We started with a charcuterie board and then shared a king prawn polenta and a wild boar ragu. This was washed down with a bottle of montepulciano. Food was wonderful and service from Monica was friendly and very efficient

Fabulous place! I’m here often for coffee during the day and thought I’d try dinner. Cosy, warm atmosphere with really attentive service and fabulous food. This is truly a wonderful little restaurant run by lovely people.

Staying in London for a few days we had already been to a few restaurants near theatre land and we're disappointed with the quality when, on our last night, decided to go to this restaurant as it was near our hotel. What a wonderful find. Authentic Italian food, cooked with quality ingredients, care and skill. The service was friendly and efficient. A small cosy environment with great atmosphere. Wished we'd found this sooner. Would highly recommend if you want a truly authentic experience.

The best hidden secret in SE1. The quality of food is outstanding. A simple and short menu & wine list but all of it superb. They are all nice people too. No it is not very instagramable but hopefully those types will stay away from this small & simple gem

Having visited this establishment just under a year ago with my husband, where the food and service was excellent. I was really looking forward to treating my cousin to what I thought would be a really lovely evening. How disappointed I was! As we arrived we were asked if we wanted sparkling water at our table, to which we said just normal. Before we could say anything , still water was being poured from a bottle. On observation all the other tables had carafes of tap water. On this occasion the service was rushed. The starters were nice. The risotto for the main course was swimming in liquid. And the dessert that we picked, which when we asked the server was described as similar to a panna cotta. But as it arrived was more like a bread and butter pudding. With that in mind, I would not have chosen this as a dessert, because I don't like dried fruit or orange peel. As the evening drew to a close, my cousin commented that there was much huffing and puffing behind her back. Despite wanting to end the meal with a liquor, on drawing the attention of the waiter he presented us with the bill. I feel really sad that the experience we had previously was not duplicated on this occasion. To conclude, rushed and ripped off. (12.5 % service charge). I do wonder whether I would have been treated the same had my husband been with me, and not my female cousin. Sadly won't be visiting again.

My wife and I have thoroughly enjoyed dining at Locanda del Melo at least four times in our short stay in Bermondsey (the takeout was also great) - can’t stay away. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff, an amazing chef deeply dedicated to authentic quality, and the kind, charismatic owner all contribute to some of the best dining experiences we’ve had, anywhere in the world. This is more than a ‘hidden gem’ - this is a prized jewel among restaurants for us. The food surely ranks with the very best in London - worth a long cab ride in every way!

As with most people in this neighborhood, we couldn't find a seat in some of the other restaurants and found Fine Foods rather by accident. I can tell you it was a very happy accident. The owner was friendly and the food was excellent. Everything they recommended was done just right and the portions were good as well. Would definitely go back when I'm in London again.

We were so glad we found this place instead of all the fancy restaurants in Bermondsey street. The two folks in the evening who took care of us for dinner - Salvatore and Tarun deserve a special mention. We are vegetarians and enjoyed the Minestrone soup and the bruschetta. The Tortelloni vegetariani is a little heavy but the Trofie al pesto and the Parmigiana di melanzane are excellent. We missed having the risotto but I did hear someone at the neighbouring table singing praises of it. I highly recommend this place for their excellent food and service. Takeaway is slightly cheaper.

De eigenaar is bescheiden bij het aanbieden van de kaart, alsof er onvoldoende keuze is, maar er is ruim voldoende keuze. Dit restaurant heeft een beperkt aantal plaatsen dus reserveren is aan te raden, zeker als meer mensen ontdekken hoe goed het eten hier is.

I stopped in here with a friend for an appetizer as we were both just slightly hungry and wanted a glass of wine. The service was great, the man was very friendly and attentive. We understood, however, that the starter we would be receiving was the meat and bread starter. I asked if olives are included with the dish and I was told I can have olives, so he brought back bread, olives, and meat. The wines were on the pricier side as well. While all was delicious, we looked at our receipt to see that we were charged separately for bread and oil (5.50), after I asked about having some olive oil with the dish... a whole separate charge without being informed. Plus, the starter we order stated that bread was included...so I don't understand why we were charged for two separate starters. We felt ripped off, even though it was good. I'd recommend lowering the prices and not up-charging for a tiny bowl of oil.

Impromptu visit brought an amazing experience. The owner was energetic in his desire to please and the food was the best Italian food I have had in London (lived there for ten years).

Authentic, real Italian food. Great, laid back athmosphere. Try Fish carbonara, aubergine and cheeses. Nice owner and personal service. Maybe the best Italian for a while.

I’ve been lucky enough to have been able to dine in great restaurants all over the world. This little hideaway is up there with the best of them.

This is such a fantastic restaurant. Service impeccable and we were provided with helpful thoughtful comments throughout. I ate beautiful minestrone fresh and subtle flavours. Becky ate Charcuterie plentiful and flavoursome. We followed this with sausage and saffron risotto and aubergine and Mozzarella fabulous. The highlight was the wine recommendation Brolo Campofiorin Oro 2014 this is a delightful restaurant not to be missed if you are Bermondsey.

Excellent corner neighborhood restaurant. Fine choice of wines. Loved the pan fried goat cheese with spinach and red onion dressing. Ravioli was perfectly cooked. Spaghetti with seafood was excellent but could have used some garlic. Tiramisu was freshly made and the best I have tasted in a long time. Topped off dinner with a lemoncello that was perfect. Well priced. Would return.

This is a hidden gem. It just looks like a little deli from the outside, but is actually a really exceptional little restaurant inside.

Carmelo (Melo) is a great host. So if you like to discover hidden gems this is your place. Great food, no tourists, great selection of Italian wines. Last but not least: I value Italian restaurants by tasting the Tiramisu. Simply the best!!! J

With all the positive reviews i had expected better. The food was ok but portions are small..a very over priced wine list.. and a ridiculous charge of 4.50£ for bread and oil. plus a 10% service charge.. Not recommended..

A great find in a quiet London neighborhood! The restaurant is small and charming. We were able to walk in and be seated, but reservations are probably a good idea. The food is fresh and amazing! The staff is friendly and the service is excellent. Our kids loved the food! We stayed down the street and in the short time we were in London, we went back multiple times. The next time we are in London, we will be back!

Tucked away in a very nice quiet district of London, I could not help coming back multiple times. The food is amazing. The cheese, salami, and wines are excellent. I was blessed to have this gem walking distance from my hotel. I will be back no matter where I stay in London. Top notch!!!!

Ci siamo imbattuti in questo ristorantino italiano del tutto casualmente una sera in cui cercavamo ospitalità per le nostre due famiglie in visita a Londra. Quella sera non abbiamo trovato posto perché è molto piccolo e ha solo 22 coperti. Ma l’accoglienza è stata talmente cordiale e il banco dei salumi e dei formaggi così invitante che abbiamo prenotato per la sera successiva. Non è il classico ristorante italiano all’estero che di italiano porta solo il nome. I piatti sono cucinati in maniera tradizionale senza adattamenti al gusto inglese (temevamo la solita panna ovunque e quando Mattia, il gestore, l’ha capito ci ha subito rassicurato ) e sono di eccellente qualità. Abbiamo provato gli agnolotti di magro con un condimento allo zafferano, i tortellini con ripieno di patate e tartufo, i taglierini con gamberoni e zucchine e il risotto agli scampi. I bambini hanno assaporato un buonissimo ragù e le mezze lune con burro e salvia. Ottimi pure i dolci (tiramisù stellato) e gli antipasti (in particolare, ho apprezzato molto la parmigiana di melanzane, per niente unta e ben condita). Insomma, un ristorante che anche in Italia avrebbe costituito in eccellenza. Prezzo adeguato alla qualità (la differenza con il target italiano ritengo stia solo nel cambio sfavorevole). Bravissimi e grazie!!

El 5 de junio de 2019 fui a Locanda del Melo con mi equipo para una reunión de negocios. La comida era deliciosa, el vino increíble y el servicio impecable. El personal era amable, profesional y extremadamente servicial. Todos pasamos una noche increíble que nos ayudó a finalizar un acuerdo importante. El gerente, Mattia, tiene una asombrosa resolución de problemas y una actitud cuidadosa. Lo recomiendo altamente.

Fui a Locanda del Melo ayer por la noche a cenar con mi esposa. Al principio, nos recibió muy bien el maravilloso personal y luego, después de un buen aperitivo, tuvimos una cena increíble, la comida fue increíble y muy bien presentada. El ambiente en su máxima expresión, el gentlement de Verona marcó la diferencia. Gracias a él y todo el personal por la noche increíble. ¡Aclamaciones!

I’m afraid this review will not be of the food as despite booking on the restaurants website 6 weeks previously and receiving confirmation and a reminder confirmation the day before, we arrived to a 12.15 booking at 12.00 and found the restaurant closed. It was bank holiday Monday but the restaurant had confirmed the date and time and it says nowhere on their website or at the location that the restaurant would be closed on the May holiday. We then received a text from the restaurant at 12.05 advising us of the closure for the day. We had travelled down from Yorkshire that morning to start our 50th birthday celebrations and found ourselves stood outside the premises looking for somewhere else that was open and with availability. The restaurant had ample time to contact us and advise of the closure and should never had sent a confirmation email. I certainly don’t think a text 10 minutes before our booking is appropriate and despite texting back asking for an explanation I have received no further contact. Thanks for spoiling the start of our celebration and please ensure that bookings are blocked on holidays or contact those effected in plenty of tone to organise something else.

It's right on my doorstep. I've just never got around to writing a review! Smashing place to grab a decent, reasonably priced meal in a great atmosphere - low lighting etc - and although it's necessary to book at the weekends, it never feels busy inside. Would recommend to anybody on their travels around this area of town.

Got a last minute booking on a Saturday night. Sat at the bar by the window and had the most sublime food. Lovely friendly service - Matt the waiter extremely competent and friendly from the moment we arrived. To start the Beef Carpaccio dish ( or beef salad) and Frito Miso, followed by a truly sublime veal ravioli in saffron sauce for me and the entrecote for OH. The best ever tiramisu to share fininshed over a truly delicious meal. So good we have booked to return next Saturday night! Thank you to waiting staff and chef for the best Italian food I have ever had. A memorable evening. See you soon.

I looked for a restaurant local to Guys hospital, this place had great reviews and well deserved. To be fair it doesn’t look like a great restaurant from the outside but don’t let the location and appearance put you off. The food was superb, the staff were excellent & it had a nice homely feel about the place.

Stayed at the Residence Inn London Bridge for 5 nites and this place is across the street. Looks more like a retail market storefront. The hotel staff recommended it for some good Italian food. We ate there out of convenience the 2nd nite there and rearranged some plans our last nite to get back there one more time. Eggplant Parm and his Tagliatelle (homemade) w wild mushrooms was great. First nite had Agnolloti stuffed w Wild Boar I think. Only about 10 tables. Just a unique little place with some real homemade Italian.

Went to the restaurant yesterday for late lunch. Its a very small restaurant. Service was good. The wine selection not extensive, but the wines that we chose were good. The food menu was delicious, homemade pasta. The service excellent. The only downside is the toilet. It is old and there is only one and sadly not very well looked after, for that reason only I gave the score of 4.

Turned up by chance as a result of being in the area and following a review on here. No booking but they found us the last table. We followed advice and picked the two recommendations for mains which were very tasty. White balsamic vinegar a treat too with fresh bread. One main meal a little on the small side but the sauce was excellent mopped up with extra bread. Would definitely recommend.

Small place bursting with charm and memorable cuisine to match. The Bruschetta, Ossobuco and double chocolate desert were all masterfully made.

Delicious food again, cheerful and idiosyncratic service, great wine but all subtly different to last time. The menu is now rather more artily and prettily presented than it was before and looks permanent and unlikely to change. My impression last time was of a home printed version which changed from time to time as stuff became available or the cook wanted to try something new. This one looks forever, is quite limited and is more expensive. Pity. It has changed the ambience of the place and, to top it all,its more pricey than before.

I'm local to this little restaurant and I love it. It's small and relaxing with friendly staff. As well as in the evenings more recently I have gone a couple of times for the lunchtime special. A pasta dish of the day and a drink for £10 which is great value. Its obvious that they use quality ingredients.

Avions décidé ma fille et moi de dîner dans le quartier où elle réside afin de rentrer au plus vite . Notre recherche nous a porté vers ce restaurant italien qui semblait nous promettre monts et merveilles . Arrivées sur place nous avons été très surprise par la salle qui ne peut accueillir que 6 ou 7 tables , le patron est extrêmement accueillant en revanche et n’hésite pas à déplacer les clients selon leurs souhaits . Avons commandé des pâtes et des aubergines au parmesan . La qualité est là c’est certain , mais le rapport qualité / prix n’est pas correct . Les pâtes sont certes excellentes mais ce ne sont que des pâtes et les prix du plat principal avoisinent les 15 / 20 livres ... enfin le dessert est parfait : le tiramisu mérite le détour et reste un must .

We chose Fine Foods as it was perfect location for our family meeting in London and was a short taxi ride from Waterloo. The reviews were excellent and we were not disappointed. We had a wonderful afternoon. We arrived around 1.30pm and we were a party of 9 and our table was at the back and it almost felt like a private room but sharing the atmosphere of this lovley local Italian restaurant. Starters and mains were delicious. Gorgeous home made pasta dishes. Great sized portions and only a couple of desserts ordered - Fantastic pannetone. We consumed far too many Aperol Spritz and Prosecco but when the bill came we were really surprised at how little the bill was considering what we had consumed. We didn't leave until around 6pm and were not rushed at all. Service was impeccable. I would definitely return and may book a table for the same time next year! A really memorable day.

Locale trovato per caso da mio fratello che vive e lavora a Londra. Piccolissimo, ma con prodotti in vendita ed una cucina davvero genuina. Abbiamo mangiato bene ed abbiamo trovato anche un buon amico! Infatti, Mattia ci ha saputo consigliare e guidare per il meglio nella scelta dei piatti. Davvero ottima scoperta! Petit restaurant au coin d’une rue

We had an amazing dinner here! The waiter was excellent and we liked how the restaurant only had 7 tables. Everything we had was delicious, especially the osso buco pasta.

The food was outstanding! We began with a charcuterie board which was filled with fresh meats and olives and each ordered four different main course dishes. The pastas, eggplant parmigiana and steak were all cooked perfectly. To top off the meal we shared tiramisu that was out of this world. A perfect evening, with welcoming hosts in this 5-6 table restaurant. We highly recommend to everyone.

Piepklein, gezellig Italiaans restaurant. Ons eten was superlekker en niet zo duur. De gastheer was heel vriendelijk!

So glad we made a reservation, the restaurant is tiny behind a lovely authentic Italian shop.
