Fife Lodge Hotel in Aberdeenshire

Was there with the family for the weekend. When we checked in the lady behind the desk ( the owner) I later found out was very rude and so unwelcoming. We seen her on various occasions over the weekend but she wasn’t very keen to even say hello . The young guy in the bar was very good and pleasant. He even knew what we all drank without asking. A great wee guy and excellent at his job Also a mention to the older gentleman who served us our breakfast each morning. He was top class and very polite and very welcoming to us all . The owner I’m afraid should maybe spend a day with her staff and they could show her how to treat people who are paying good money to stay at her hotel. The hotel was clean and warm with nice comfortable rooms. But I’m afraid we wont be returning. As we believe it doesn’t cost anything to be polite.

We had a lovely meal here, the new owners have greatly improved things since the last time we visited (6yrs ago) . Service was excellent, friendly and efficient, just the right balance. I had lemon Sole with prawns both cooked perfectly, my wife had the Chicken Stroganoff, again well cooked and tasty. Followed by a very fine Marmalade sponge with Drambuie custard and Banoffee desert for my wife. No skimping on portion size either....January diet all in vain lol. Lovely stuff.

Lovely lunch, with an extensive choice of meals. Have been for coffee, lunch, evening meals and have never been disappointed. Very friendly staff, excellent service and really great food. Always made to feel welcome, whatever the occasion, and always delighted with the service.

We booked in for dinner, bed and breakfast. Our room (Room 1) had been recently renovated and was in excellent order. Separate shower cubicle and not over a bath. Bed was really comfy and plenty of pillows. Excellent view over the grounds. Our dinner menu was large and varied with something for everyone. Portions were not too large and well presented. Breakfast was served to you and not a buffet. Again excellent. All the staff we met were very well mannered and seemed happy in their work. Easy to talk to and nothing was too much trouble.

Had a four night stay at the hotel, very nice rooms, friendly and helpful staff, superb breakfast choice, great meals, very good value for money hotel, set in lovely well maintained gardens

Popped in past for lunch, it was really busy but managed to get a table in the bar beside the log burner. Great selection on the menu, we had the haddock and chips and the sweet chilli chicken wrap. Really tasty with nice crispy batter. Had the baileys cheesecake for sweet, omg it was delicious!! Decor lovely and staff really friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend.

Although fairly local we've not eaten here since 2012 (bolshy chef and increasingly poor quality of food being served) but we returned this weekend and were very pleasantly surprised. The new owners have clearly spent money on the exterior with the additional of a fantastic outdoor seating area and the staff were extremely pleasant and well trained. Menu selection would suit all tastes, and was extensive, and drink orders were taken and served quickly. I hope, as the new owners invest, the poor décor is changed. It's very 80's and there is ZERO atmosphere in the dining room. Bright lighting makes it look like Pittodrie and the tables are just awful. At least dim the lights, angle the tables and maybe put a candle on the table until then??? The bar tables were as sticky as we remember (years of varnish) but this could be such an incredibly cosy bar if these were also changed and the TV removed. The restaurant was full and it's so lovely to see families and friends being able to eat out again. This place could be serious competition for others in the area, such as our favourite The Fife Arms in Turriff, if it's brought more up to date while still retaining charm of the building. Service 10/10, menu selection 10/10, quality of food 7/10 & décor 2/10.

The food in the restaurant is fantastic. Dining room full of locals as well as residents. I had the Camembert rounds to start with - crispy in panko breadcrumbs but melt in the middle with a vibrant red currant sauce. Then had the burger which was the best I had tasted for some time, the blue cheese melted on the bacon and onion rings were heaven and the triple cooked chips, well I could have eaten that all night. Portions are generous so I had to share a pudding with my wife - the baked Alaska is heaven. Soft meringue, cooked to perfection surrounding a lovely ice cream. If there is a better restaurant or chef in Banff then I would be shocked

Enjoyed a lovely lunch here at the Fife lodge hotel. Varied choice on the menu, excellent prices to suit all budgets. I opted for the camembert starter followed by chicken highlander , which was served with black pudding and drambuie sauce. Was impressed to have fresh veg too. All very tasty and well presented. Sat outside to enjoy reasonable priced wine. Great service from Lauren our waitress. Good luck to the new owners and all staff doing a great job under all these restrictions.

We booked a family lunch, sat outside, at The Fife Lodge. A glorious sunny afternoon, excellent food and service. Couldn't ask for a better lunch.

The dinner menu was limited due to covid but there was still a variety of options and they catered well for my vegetarian wife to ensure that she didn't have to repeat a choice over the 3 nights.

Firstly I have to say the service was brilliant the young lad served us today needs recognising!! (12.08.20) very polite and friendly seated quickly however bare tables would have looked better with table mats & some centre piece. The food was lovely! I know the chips look burnt but honestly was lush tasted great (could of had less colour and shaked while cooking as some stuck together) overly a very tasty meal great service and nice location. Personal opinion deco could do with a revamp! 1st visit as price has always put me off little high.so taken advantage of the eat out 50% off.

Was absolutely super!! Love the pub atmosphere and super burger and Chips. The pub is dog friendly!!

Went with our friends to try out the food before their upcoming wedding at the venue and was very impressed with the meal and staff thank you cant wait for the big day

Had a really delicious meal here on Sunday. 3 courses for £25.Very good value.We are in the bar which was a bit busier and had more atmosphere.The staff were very attentive and friendly in fact we were given a recipe for stovies when we adked about them.The meal was excellent, good portions and very tasty.Highly recommended

Our family visited this hotel on a Thursday afternoon, having reserved a table for lunch. Ample parking space, with views of the Deveron river plain below.Met by friendly, helpful staff and shown to the dining room (more room for the 8 of us compared to the bar lounge). Everything clean and tidy (inc. the toilets). A high chair provided for the wee one.Our meals were lovely. Quite expensive. I found the hotel's ambience to be pleasant and relaxing. An enjoyable lunch.

We dined with our in laws and were warmly greeted by staff on arrival. We were told that we could take a drink in the bar and then eat in the restaurant or take our meal in the bar, we decided on the latter. We could not fault the food or the staff but the service was a bit slow, but then we were in no hurry.

Restaurant was not busy, only 3 parties in restaurant and bar was empty. Cold day and dining room felt cool. Starters were lgenerally good. The roast beef was over cooked and tough. When I complained it was replaced immediately with another choice from the menu. Menu was not as extensive in choice as suggested on the website. The male who served us was efficient and attentive. Used to be a very popular place, needs to return to those days but hotel needs some upgrading to compete.

Very quite the night we were there. Online menu varies hugely from the menu presented to us. What we did have was very tasty, but a little on the expensive side for the portion size. I had the southern fried chicken, the chicken was the small tenders, while my friend had larger breast meat ( well it looked like that anyway. Smallest container of coleslaw ever.Service was good,

My need for gluten free food usually means little choice, and making do with what ever I can eat - not much of a treat really. However, this chef is so so respectful of those who cannot or prefer not to eat gluten to the point where he's considering making the menu 100% gluten free! It really was such a treat being able to choose my meal rather having to default to one or two options - which generally isn't great and to be frank totally unnecessary. Having spoken to the chef he really knows what he's doing; embracing high quality food preparation that pleases all - regardless of foodie preferences. On that note I was able to eat the most delicious two course lunch along with my other two lunch companions. The food was excellent; with good flavours texture and colour. We were all delighted. Thank you Chef! One little thing - more of an idea, a lovely comfortable lounge area to drink our coffee afterwards would have just been perfect.

We've been coming to the Fife Lodge for more than 10 years now as we have family in Banff. I was there with my three children and really looking forward to the visit as the food has always been good. Upon arrival we were seated and only handed what looked like the main evening menu's. I did think it was odd but with three hungry kids we just ordered anyway. The service was slow but when the food arrived it was really good and they accommodated myself being gluten free though there was very little choice on the menu itself. The food was very good, but just before we had finished a group of people came in and ordered their food. However, they were given the choice of a lunch menu when we weren't. I went up to check the menu's and found that there was also a children's menu which we hadn't been given either. I am very disappointed because I feel like we were deliberately ripped off. My youngest is only 7 years old and even if they didn't want to give my daughters a child's menu (they're still not teenagers yet) I think I should have been given a child's menu for my son. I have to say it left me feeling very sad as it had been a bit of a nostalgia trip for me. We wont be back.

5 of visited here on Saturday evening. 3 of us eat the most wonderful vegan food we’ve had in a while. The meat eaters were happy too. Will definitely come back here next time we visit the area.

Looking for a dog friendly place to eat in Banff or surrounding area. Came across this lovely hotel, where we were able to eat in a very nice bar area and take my friends lovely little dog in with us. The food was excellent, I had real fish scampi, great chips and salad, very tasty and my friend had a pork dish, which was huge and even as a non meat eater, thought it looked delicious. Also met some other friendly guests who loved the little doggie. Would recommend and if in the area again, will return.

Went in for a meal Wednesday night. meal was perfect I had a steak with garlic butter cooked to perfection we also had 2 different chicken dishes both perfect. .Well presented and Home made chips.I would highly recommend the hotel. .

I recently attended funeral teas here at the Fife Lodge, I thought that the young waiting staff were polite and well trained, the disappointment came a short time after where I found that the sandwiches started to curl on the edges. Also to my disgust I found that one of the sandwichs had covertly been made up with a heel of the bread turned inside to disguise as a normal slice of bread. These acts are totally unprofessional. The cakes that we're offered on the tables were also stale. A venue that have trained there waiting staff to high standard should follow the remaining parts of it's service to such of the same stanard.

We had an overnight stay here prior to a wedding and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It is a lovely hotel full of character with very friendly helpful staff. The hotel sits in its own grounds with some lovely views and a good car park. We had an evening meal there and the choice and quality of food was excellent. And the breakfast in the morning was terrific - especially the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.

Spent a night whilst touring western Scotland on our way to Inverness. Bruce couldn’t have been more welcoming to us and our dog on arrival. The room had been upgraded and Food was excellent too

We were very impressed with the food and service. Our grandson was very young at the tie and he was also well catered for. Excellent value for money.

Stopped on the off chance of a table for lunch. Greeted by friendly guy who offered us the bar or the dining room. We chose the dining room and got a window seat. We had a main course each. The sticky chilli chicken was to die for. Prompt and friendly service.

Hotel is in a pleasant setting. Had our afternoon tea in the bar as there were no seats in the dinning room, so didn't have a view of the garden. Asked for biscuits, scones etc., tiny shortbread on our saucer and two scones and two pancakes with some jam and cream, looked abit meager.

Overnight stay on business.. Lovely Welcome.. Lovely big clean authentic room... Cannot remember having a Breakfast as good EVER, had both Haddock & Salmon with Eggs.. Superb service from a friendly staff team... Thank you so much ...

I recently got married in Banff, although my wedding was not at the hotel they were attentive, setting out breakfast for me and my guests and putting up a just married sign, the rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff were friendly and attentive, the setting is lovely and I would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful setting and a must place to go. Thoroughly enjoyed a first class meal. The cullen skink was the highlight of my night. Superb as was the rest of the meal. So so reasonable.

Evening Meal - nice welcome - warm bar area - real fire - good choice of starters, mains and sweets - nice friendly staff - food served in good time - good quality and good portion sizes - value for money - well worth a visit.

Good service Excellent food with good presentation substantial main course thereforewe requested another set of cutlery to have a sweet to share. Wise move as the sweet was an exceptionally large portion. Would recommend this establishment for anevening meal.

We often eat here and in the summer it is so lovely to eat outside and they are happy for our dogs to sit/sleep alongside us and the staff always bring water for them.We have eaten here a few times recently and although the staff are always great and the location is lovely the food has been quite greasy and has just not been as good as it used to be.The menu is good and has a nice variety of dishes and the time for the food to arrive is good also - but the food has been a bit hit and miss!

This hotel does very nice Bar and restaurant meals . it is a lovely friendly place the stuff are very friendly and the service very good, very lovely meals to choose from in the bar side they have a lovely log fire burning so it makes you feel warm and cosy.

Visited for my dad's birthday meal was impressed with younger staffs politeness but an older waitress who's name i think was Liz was very rude on a number of occasions which I found totally out of order.food was ok but certainly won't return to be spoken to like a piece of rubbish by her.ruined the experience as my dad will only have one 70th birthday and her attitude just put a dampener on it

My sister and l were amazed with this building.Another family dwelling from many years ago.Elegant and full of mystery.We didn't know before we booked. I guess our family history and the Earl's of Fife just drew us there. Better than l could imagine.

We ate at the Fife lodge over the weekend. The menu good and food lovely. However the service was appalling. The young girls are trying desperately to give good service but there seems to be a distinct lack of organisation and training for them. Over the course of the night the supervisor / manager was witnessed shouting at staff twice. We never got a drinks order when requested, staff had to be reminded on average twice. It was like something out of faulty towers. I would not recommend a visit unless the owner / manager gets their staff properly trained and learns to stop shouting at them in public.

Had a wonderful evening meal with family & friends. Three of us had the steak and ale pie which was the best we had ever tasted! Made to feel very welcome and excellent service from all staff .

Returned to the fife lodge for our 28th wedding anniversary this was were we had our wedding reception and we were not disappointed we had a three course meal and it was amazing. Portions are a good size and staff were friendly very attentive won't be leaving it for another 28yrs before coming back will be back soon guys well done all

We stayed here for one night in Banff and lived it. Ample free parking, quick and friendly reception , and escorted to our room. We are the restaurant and the food/service was amazing. We definitely would stay here again.

Went here at Lunchtime. Good menu, and Stephanie who was serving us went out of her way to look after us. Our meal was delicious .I'm slightly dairy intolerant and she asked the chef for a dessert without cream.I wasn't disappointed, fabulous.

Dropped in for a bit of lunch and opted for the roast of the day, ( pork loin ) it was served very quickly by friendly efficient staff, the pork was served with lovely haggis and the best gravy I have tasted in a long time, boiled mashed tattles they were divine tasted like they had been mashed with cream and the roasters were done to perfection veg was a medley of courgette turnip and carrots took me back to when I was a child and food tasted real Top marks to the Fife Lodge they were busy but the personal touch came through. I was told they had a new chef hope he plans staying. Well done to a great team

We returned to stay at the hotel and have dinner at this excellent guest lodge. I had the steak and ale pie and she had lamb, both superb. Wine selection is very good, dessert is a must have, even though when not in Scotland I seldom do. Service is good, views are nice at this relaxing and quiet place to dine. I highly recommend.

An old hotel with lots of atmosphere and a snug fire lit lounge bar where you can also eat. I had a beef dish here which I rate the best I have ever had. The food is always good and good value a nice romantic place for a meal.

We visited on a Sunday evening to try out the new menu and we weren't disappointed. Presentation and quality of the food was great and the service very attentive. We had shared starters, Herb Crusted Brie and a Chicken and Duck Liver Pate and to follow a Haddock and an amazing Burger. Very reasonably priced too. Thankyou Fife Lodge :-)

Went into hotel at 1800 hrs on a really cold night large open fire in bar area had gone out only one other customer there he stated the staff had tried several times to light fire without success.We mentioned the cold to the staff who tried on another 2 occasions to light fire but it went out within 2 minutes.Fish and chips were just o/k.Staff looked bored and uninterested in customer service .Will not be back

We have been to the Fife Lodge twice in the past week and planning our next visit this week. The Food is great - the price is great - the owner is great - the staff is great...so why go anywhere else? Take a tip - the Cullen Skink is top notch.

Four of us had a nice meal here so we booked again 2 weeks later for a birthday meal. Three of us ordered the same meal as before as we had enjoyed it previously but it did not resemble the same meal. I do not know if the chef was on holiday but it was not enjoyable. The worst was the cheese board which was pretty expensive but to have a baby bell and a miniature from the supermarket pick n mix and call it a cheese board was a joke. My friend had laughed at my cheese board so much that she had tears running down her face. I did complain about the coffee as we could not drink it as it was so strong. I got a £5 voucher for the four of us when I paid the bill but have not returned to use it and will go else where to enjoy a meal.

Party of 10 for lunch all had different dishes ranging from kid's fish (not fingers) and macaroni through lasagne, steak, balmoral chicken, steak pie and burger to sandwiches and chicken wrap. All well cooked and good sized portions. Soup was home made and tasty. Waiting staff attentive but not overly. Kids well catered for with toys. Not the cheapest I've experience for this type of food but not out of line with other places in the town.

Went fo lunch here a couple of months ago. Used to go here for a lunch with my parents many years ago, it hasn't changed much still provides excellent food at sensible prices, staff were very helpful.

The location is not bad ,unfortunately the hotel looked sad ,maybe because was quite empty.The room was tiny with a run down bathroom and very cold .The towels small and a bit hard .Internet was working only downstairs in the common area .We decided to eat dinner but was not a great idea ,the roast beef was the harder and overlooked ever seen ,the salmon not tasty ,and we were in the salmon region....on the other side the service was very kind .

We took our friends from Canada for a bar lunch at the Fife Lodge a few weeks ago. We were impressed - and so were they. The Cullen Skink is always excellent - full of a variety of fish and suitably creamy. The crusty rolls with the soup are top quality. Service was slow but we were enjoying some chill-out time with folk we had not seen for about nine months so we didn't mind that at all; the friendliness of the staff smiles made up for any delay. Coffee was fab. We would have loved to have sampled the interesting-looking dessert menu but the main courses were of such proportions that there was simply no room! The fish and chips were excellent according to my friends and for my part the prawn and smoked salmon salad couldn't have been better. Without asking the dressing was on the side - the way I like it.A very pleasant lunch experience and the price was reasonable given the quality and quantity on offer. We hope to return again soon for an evening meal.

Having moved to the area recently we often frequent the Fife Lodge and have never had anything but a brilliant meal. Lots of variety, beautiful surroundings and the staff are so friendly and helpful.

Lovely anniversary dinner - we found it so peaceful having the dining room to ourselves! The staff are very nice and attentive without being intrusive. The food was lovely - simple Sunday menu and cooked well. Many thanks!

Not only good food - BUT great food. The Restaurant was exceptionally well furnished and very comfortable. The mine host was a delight and the service was extra-ordinary. Take a tip from me - book NOW!

This is a lovely hotel and the grounds are beautiful.we decided to go down for Christmas day dinner and to be honest it was disappointing.the starter was tiny and we had to wait 30 mins for main course which was worth the wait but the dining room was not busy .The biggest letdown was dessert which ended up being a frozen pudding from one of the many local supermarket. It was a shame as we had looked forward to the meal but not sure we would go back to be honest

We had a very comfortable and enjoyable stay. The room was spacious, en suite, and with a lovely view down to the valley. Food was very good, and the service efficient and friendly. We were made very welcome, and soon felt at home. Linda, the proprietress, was lovely and we shall certainly stay with her if we are in the area again.

I like the cosy atmosphere in the lounge bar, although the tables are a little small for groups when having a bar served meal. The resturant is nice a much more formal. Food is reasonable priced and varied selection.

While visiting Banff, my husband and I thought we would try The Fife lodge for some Sunday lunch. I ordered the roast beef and my husband ordered the roast chicken. The beef was incredibly tough and dry, virtually inedible. It came ready chopped, like it had been chopped up for a small child! The chicken was also ready chopped in strips and had a very unusual taste almost as if it was tinned chicken or maybe even off! Again this was inedible. When we enquired how the chicken was cooked,we were told it had been pan-fried. So not a roast chicken as stated on the menu.Overall, the food was dismal. Definitely won't be returning. No complaints on the service though.

Had a meal for our wedding anniversary,the food was excellent and very reasonable priced,plenty of choice on the menu ,bar had good choice if spirits to pick from,the staff were excellent especially our waiter Joe ,he was brilliant and very nice chap. I would thoroughy recommend the Fife lodge as the best hotel in banff for a meal .

We stayed at the hotel and ate breakfast and dinner here on both days and found plenty of choices on the menu. My partner had the haggis bonbons in a cream whisky sauce for starters; they were that nice he hasn’t stopped telling people about them! We both had the roast chicken and black pudding tower; it was delicious and something we would certainly have again. The roast beef dinner on the Sunday was melt in the mouth and plentiful. Staff served our meals wearing white serving gloves, another lovely touch. Breakfast included a wide selection and we greedily opted for the full cooked on both mornings and it set us up perfectly for the day’s exploring ahead. We wish we lived closer by as it would be lovely place for that special occasion meal or family do.

Halibut was fantastic, haddock was really tasty, chips were divine. It was all really good. Cullen Skink was the best I've had - tasty, not too creamy and meaty.

I organized a run in my area for my colleagues in The Veteran Cycle Club and selected The Fife Lodge Hotel for our lunch. After cycling though Duff House Estate woods on our elderly bicycles we were ready for a good lunch before our afternoon's pedaling. We were not to be disappointed a warm welcome was followed by an excellent meal which was smartly served by friendly efficient staff. All sixteen of us really enjoyed the food and the roast beef was to die for. I am so pleased that I selected the Fife which made our days tour all the more enjoyable. The price was very reasonable too.

great service and the food was perfect. everything from roast chicken breast to venison burgers along with spicy shrimp with mixed olive starters. taking another group of friends soon.

We visited here as a Christmas party (late review I know). The meals were rushed, the food was sub-standard, milk on the table was curdled, vegetables were cold (and arrived when we were almost finished our meal). I'm not rushing back!

At a recent stay in Macduff we dined at the Fife Lodge on Sunday evening. The meal was overall disappointing. A very limited menu was offered, no beef meal available on night. The fish (and the obligatory chips) we chose was more batter than fish. The white wine we chose was presented unchilled, and we were told that's how the locals like it, and offered ice cubes. All a bit unprofessional in our experience.

We were here for a family funeral and they treated us well, except we did have to keep going into the kitchen and asking for more tea and coffee. Having said that they opened the bar for us and we all sat round the lovely log fire, so that was great.

We have our Ruby Wedding Anniversary booked at the Fife Lodge in June and we had not heard much about it for a while so we decided to "check it out" with the help of another couple. We received a warm welcome when we arrived and were shown to an area in the bar/lounge where we enjoyed a quiet drink and ordered from the menu. We were taken to our table and enjoyed an excellent meal. One of our party did comment that it would have been better if the plates had been much hotter so as to keep the food warmer longer. I mentioned this to the Chef and she duly noted my comment. It is understood that this chef has newly taken up this post.We also noticed a couple moving seats as they were feeling a bit of a draft.. These two comments of mine are reflected in the above rating. Would we go back? We will be back on the 22nd of June along with quite a few guests so i will report back then.

Dined at the Fife Lodge on Saturday night while on a short visit from London. The food and service was excellent, much improved on an earlier visit in 2012. I would certainly recommend to others and will difinitely come back again.

Our table of 4 more than doubled the total of people eating on a Saturday night. The food was ok but my child sized portion was not worth what it cost. I won't be hurrying back any time soon. On a positive note the ginger pudding was lovely and by far the highlight of our visit

Dining area cold and food cold. Not a good experience. Not the first time this has been experienced. The standard of the Fife Lodge is unpredictable. One one occasion the food has been acceptable and the dining area has been warm but that was earlier in the year. I think that in the depths of winter it is obvious that the heating is not adequate.

We first visited this restaurant a couple of years back with a large family party.We all ordered different things and whilst some main courses were satisfactory,others were not.Two members of our party had to send the very over-cooked chicken back,it was inedible.After giving the place a wide berth for a long time,we decided to return,again with visiting family,thinking it would surely have improved by now.One of our party ordered the Goat's Cheese Salad for a starter.Unbelievably,he was served a very plain-looking salad and after hunting for a while to locate the goat's cheese,realised that there was none on his plate.He enquired about this only to be told 'Oh,we've run out of goat's cheese'.He was offered an alternative without fuss and the main courses were acceptable but nothing more.For the price,we really expected something better Needless to say,we won't be giving them another chance.

Excellent traditional lounge/diner. Food was very high quality and cooked very well. This was my 3rd visit in the last 2 years and the excellent food and service was the same. Definitely go back again
