Lovely pub, lovely staff.great village location. We came for curry night-sadly-v disappointed. Food ok but not topped up, had to wait ages for chicken to be added to watery Korea sauce, ages for popadoms, chutney etc. Not terrible but in no rush to return for this experience especially considering the instant 50% increase in cost

The Riverside Restaurant is set on the banks of the River Trent which is fantastic in the summer, Having had various meals from the Dirty Burger to the Sunday Carvery and I can honestly say we have never had a bad meal. The food is fresh with good portion sizes across the board at very competitive prices with a host of meals around the £10 to £15, the staff are very polite and professional with prompt service and always a smile. The attached pub serve a full array of well priced ales and wines that compliment all meals. Would recommend anyone to visit and put them to the test, you won't be dissappointed

Attended a Christmas meal night with friends. We had the room to ourselves, crackers on the tables and really great young serving staff who were efficient and smiley. Chef did a great job of catering for myself as a vegan and my vegetarian husband. We both had a Mediterranean Tart & he was very clear what we needed to avoid from the carvery trimmings (only a couple of things). We were also provided with different gravy. The meal was finished off with a chocolate tart that had a sort of tiffin base and caramel layer which was lovely and very well presented. I love a chocolate dessert and I’m always disappointed when there’s no vegan pudding or an unimaginative one such as chopped fruit or sorbet. Hats off to everyone involved in a great evening out.

We went for lunch yesterday and quite frankly should have just got up and left but my friends had organised it so did nt want to upset them. The starters were ok and worth the money but then the mains came out. I was stupid enough to order the pork and stuffing pie, not thinking that it was obviously roast of the day the day before and just chopped up with balls of stuffing that had been left. The pastry was limp and horrid and the gravy totally tasteless. I choose chips as a treat and they were horrid. One firend had a giant Yorkshire filled with beef and asked for chips not potatoes they gave her chips as an extra so more cost. Everyone's chips were disgusting. Her Yorkshire was not freshly cooked and was so hard it was inedible. My other friend had roast turkey and a Yorkshire that again was disgusting and I will post a picture of it. They enjoyed dessert but we were all in agreement the food was disgusting. The staff were ok and they did ask if everything was ok we should have told the truth and said no. You also had to endure the disgusting smell of the bins as you entered and exit. Don t go there if you think you want fresh food.

The food was delicious, my husband had the rib eye steak which was cooked exactly as he requested and the chips and salad were great. I had the slow roast lamb which just melted in my mouth, the vegetables were fresh and cooked just right and the rosemary mash was perfect. We were pleasantly surprised that we didn't have to wait long at all for the meal. The restaurant is in a lovely setting and when we had finished our meal we took our drinks and sat at a table on the riverbank, where a beautiful sunset made a perfect end to a lovely evening.

We shared the steak deal for main which came along side a bottle of wine, the steaks were cooked to perfection and the chips were a lovely homemade complement and we were lucky enough to be eating at sunset, the view spoke simple tranquility as the sun set reflected off the river. A group of 7 of us booked well in advance to have Sunday lunch here. We were warned that as we were a 'large' party we might have to go in the pub not the restaurant, I didn't object but I wish I had. We were seated on three small, low round tables and two of the group had to sit on small, low bar stools, fine for having a drink but not for eating. The food was quite nice, although some of the group felt there was not enough roasties and the plates were smaller than other places we have been to. There is only a choice of four puddings, two were not available and two of us had to eat with a soup spoon because they'd run out of dessert spoons. The waiter did apologies, but surely two spoons could have been washed and given to us. The desserts were nice. Note:- you have to pay for the drinks at the bar and pay separately for the food as they are run as two separate businesses. We were all a bit disappointed and no one is in a rush to go back.

Oh and it is clear the Yorkshire puddings aren't home made. The only thing they did was bring out more meat we eventually got a refund after she spoke to the chef we went to a pub in Burringham and it was amazing it's such a shame we will have to travel in the car rather than literally walking out of our front door and across the road

We were staying close by and needed an evening meal after traveling up, we had sent an email a few days before explaining that we had our dog with us and were accommodated in the bar lounge. The service was swift and very friendly, I opted for a good quality steak and my wife a hearty pie. The beer was good and lots of friendly faces in the bar.

Went on a Saturday evening for the 'two steaks for £30 and a free bottle of wine' deal, We ordered starters of crab patties and pate, both arrived promptly and were a very nice appetiser. I had the Sirloin steak and my wife had the Fillet (which is a £3 supplement), both ordered medium rare and came cooked to perfection. Once these were finished we couldn't manage a desert each so shared a rhubarb and ginger crumble with custard and that too was delicious. The service was once again friendly and professional and we will certainly be going again, can't recommend it highly enough.

We have been to the Riverside on many occasions since it opened, just the 2 of us, or family and friends up to a gang of 10. The food is always good and freshly cooked, whether the fish night, steak night or from the a la carte. Sunday carvery is excellent value with the meat and veg cooked properly. Simple menu but always good.Knowledgeable staff, very friendly and with only 30ish covers the atmosphere is always lively, even the married couples chat. Advised to book though.

First time to the pub and restaurant but not the last. The pub was busy and very friendly, the restaurant was small but you did not feel as though you were to near other tables. We went with our daughter and fiance, who have been a few times and always enjoyed it.The service was very quick and well priced.I choose steak which i normally do not have when out and it was cooked perfect. There is so much to choose from.I would recommend booking a table at the weekend .

We went to Riverside Restaurant on a Saturday evening and had a fantastic meal. We both had steak and chips and delicious puddings and all of the food was great! Generous portions of 'proper' food very well cooked and nicely presented. The staff were really friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. This was our first visit as we are not from the village but we would definitely go back and would recommend it! I would certainly book in advance so you are not disappointed as the restaurant is quite small - in a nice, intimate way though - not cramped. Meal was great value as we had a special steak offer which included a bottle of wine. All of the other food that we saw looked great and there was a good choice on the menu. Can't wait to return and try a different dish!

Booked in for a meal on Friday evening, we live in the village, this was my first visit to the restaurant though my wife had been before and we are no strangers to the pub itself. The food was faultless, we had the baked Camembert for two as a shared starter then my wife had fillet steak with peppercorn sauce and I had the duck breast in an orange and port sauce with parsley mash. The steak came with the usual accompaniments of mushroom, onion rings, tomatoes and chips (which were superb) and the duck came with assorted fresh vegetables. We finished off sharing a cheesecake, raspberries and raspberry coulis (because we were too full to have a dessert each). A bottle of wine with the meal and drinks on arrival altogether came to around £60, which was very reasonable for what we had. From being greeted on arrival the service was excellent, friendly and professional and I would recommend a visit, well worth it.

This pub and it's Riverside restaurant are lovely. Everyone is so friendly and nothing seems too much trouble. We try to eat here fairly regularly and so booked our Christmas Day lunch. We were not disappointed, As usual the food was delicious. The service was friendly and efficient. The restaurant is small (cosy) and only opens on certain days so you will need to book. The atmosphere in the restaurant and the pub is great. And the location is fantastic. Sitting on the river bank in the summer us perfect.

To start you had your Welcome Festive drinks of Prosseco, Bucks Fizz, Mulled Wine or Orange Juice. There was 3 choices of Starter, Homemade Game Soup with Crusty Bread, Lobster & King Prawn Cocktail or Fanned Melon Medley.. We chose the Lobster & King Prawn Cocktail in sauce with mixed lettuce. Absolutely glorious. We then had a Mango Sorbet to clean the palate, before turning our attention the main course which was served at the carvery of Hand Carved Turkey, Ham and Aberdeen Angus Black Beef, Chestnut and Stilton Roast or Fresh Poached Salmon. We chose the beef which was out of this world. All of which came with all the Christmas Trimming. Then you had a choice of a sweet. Traditional Christmas pudding wit Brandy Sauce, Homemade Festive Crumble with Vanilla Custard or Brandy Snap basket with Winter Berries and Vanilla Ice cream. or Festive Cheese Board & Biscuits. We had the Brandy Snap Basket. which was delicious. Then we were served with Warm Mince Pies, Coffee & Mints. The service was superb from start to finish from Tia and Becca front of house. .Thank you so much for making our Christmas Day.Our thanks also go to Gary our fantastic Chef and staff behind the scenes. We are going to miss their great service we have had over 2016 and wish them all the very Best when they return in January 2017.One sad note on the day is that this restaurant only has1 sitting on Christmas Day and a table that had been reserved with a deposit did not turn up for their meal, which meant that others missed out on a fabulous day.

Early evening meal with friends, pre booked and was not disappointed. The meal was well presented, sufficient quantity and well presented. The service was efficient and the decor clean and fresh. We had to pay for the drinks seperately to the food as we could not run a tab but otherwise a pleasant pub for food.

This is the second year we have visited the pub while staying at Brookside caravan park. I love this pub, its two minutes from the site, its serves plenty of fine ales and larger, the bar staff and landlord are very friendly and always make us feel welcome. The place is dog friendly which is great. Also the locals always make us feel welcome and really make the pub a good place to chill with a pint or three!5* local pub. Never had any food here so this review is only for the pub not the restaurant.

I visited the Ferry House for Sunday lunch with my partner and 3 year old child. We were told that there were no tables in the restaurant and would have to eat in the bar which was fine. I sat and kept a table whilst my partner and child went to get their food. On their return I went to the 'Carvery' and was told rather curtly that I needed a ticket. I explained that my family had just been served apparently without a ticket and the 'lady' serving tutted and seemed to shake her head. We all have bad days but if you are providing a service and your systems of work are not robust then it is certainly not the fault of your customers. I took my meal back to our table and although the mustard mash was nice, the pork was dry and the remainder very average. My partner and child finished before me and whilst I was having a conversation with one of the locals, a waitress came along and picked up the two empty plates and plonked them on my unfinished plate. I explained that I had'nt finished my meal and unbelievably she muttered something under her breath and waltzed off with all three plates. I want to make it absolutely clear that the food is run separately from the pub business and the Landlord and staff are great. It is just a shame that the reputation of the restaurant and staff will do the Ferry House no favours unless they start treating people in a manner befitting a riverside restaurant. We eat out 3-4 times per week but we most certainly will not be eating here again... shame.

I cannot fault the range of meats on the Carvery as well as the range of vegetables including Cauliflower Cheese which is my favourite. Gravy is to die for. You can book a table for the Restaurant or eat at one of the tables in the bar or outside if you wish. We are very lucky in our village to have such a hidden gem although to be quite honest it isn't hidden any more! We always have a warm welcome from all the staff who are very attentive and will do all they can to ensure you enjoy your meal. Long may it continue.

The Ferry House in at Burton upon Stather is right on the banks of the river trent. We had a meal in the bar on Saturday night and could not fault it at all. The steaks with a bottle of wine were delicious, my Husband had the liver and onions and I had Duck, all dishes were excellent, it was that good we booked a table for the next day for Sunday Lunch where they do a carvery with 4 different meats which is very reasonable. Dogs are welcome in the bar which was why this was another reason we choose the pub and camping site next door (Brookside) was also a factor. I would recommend a meal here. There is also a restaurant which do the same meals, but dogs are not allowed in this part of the building.

A little disappointed really, service was really good, but the food average - ordered the chicken kebab which was just okay, not brilliant. But the most disappointing aspect was ordering our dessert, but as we were after 9pm the kitchen had closed. We were late diners, arrived at 8.15 but when we ordered our main we mention we would like a dessert so when we were faced ordering and told, sorry the kitchen is now closed, we were left very disappointed indeed - not good really as the staff should have really come to us, but didn't. Ho hum - we dined out the second evening, great meal locally, far superior food and service.

Booked with friends for Sunday breakfast 10.30 am. We arrived just after 10.30. We were the only customers - no problem as we had lots of catching up to do. Ordered drinks which arrived promptly and after a while our orders were taken for breakfast. Then we waited and waited and waited.... Probably about 11 30 after I'd chewed my elbow off the food arrived. It was ok. I had the scrambled egg with smoked salmon. Lovely but an extra egg to actually cover the (1) piece of sourdough would have been appreciated. So disappointing ... The place is so lovely and the decor absolutely amazing. We will definitely try evening as the reviews sound so good but very disappointed today

A busy place for golfers in a great location. Lots of parking in a spacious car park. Accessible for everyone. The club house is fantastic with food and drink available for those who want it, including friendly staff members. Fantastic views of the course from the club house. Looking forward to my next visit.

Popped in here on an ad-hoc detour to get something to eat & drink (5pm ish). Building looked like an old fashioned type of place and advertised food outside the front door. Parking in the old stable courtyard around the back. Tight bar, low ceilings but offered good ales. The chef spotted as and told us that if we wanted food, Stew and Dumplings were fresh and a special of the day. Very much a locals pub, bar flies were friendly, TV on with no sound (News) and best of all. NO MUSIC and could have a conversion without shouting over any noise. Grub was bang on (Stew, dumplings, mash and veg) and a massive portion. £8 quid. Mrs. had Scampi, a mountain of chips and a lorry load of peas which she said was really good. Also £8 quid. Great pub, great grub, well poured beer and nice welcome surroundings. Rough and ready, no frills good honest place.
