Yesterday we went to the Priory Tea Rooms for their afternoon tea and it was simply superb. We have been to many such events and enjoyed them all for obviously different reasons, but yesterday surpassed them all. It simply couldn't be bettered. Many thanks to all concerned. On a different note, how I wish that there was public transport to the venue, as we don't have our own transport and my mobility in now very limited. thanks again xx

Sunday 4th June 2023, My husband and I went out for the day to go to a ‘Plant Fair’ at Felley Priory Gardens at Underwood in Nottinghamshire. The drive through the countryside to the priory was a real pleasure with lots of wonderful greenery and flowering trees and bushes and the day was wonderfully warm and sunny. We arrived and parked our car and then strolled round the Plant Fair. We saw some wonderful plants. My husband purchased 3 dark blue agapanthuses’ for our large garden pot, which we had been meaning to do for some time. My husband and I then looked round the outside of Felley Priory house and afterwards strolled round the wonderful gardens. Later my husband and I were in need of refreshments, so we went to ‘The Farmhouse’ Tea Room where we had drinks and cakes. My husband had a large slice of blueberry and lemon cake, which he said was delicious and a pot of tea. I had a latte coffee and a slice of orange drizzle cake. It was nice to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet with just the birds singing in the trees and no city traffic sounds. We left here as the garden was closing at 4.00pm.

I have driven past the entrance to this place on many occasions. To be truthful, it's an hidden gem. The cafe is very old school, but great for it. The food was traditional and we loved it. We had sandwiches off the menu and they were fresh and delicious. The priory itself is beautiful and it is hidden in a beautiful location. It also has a small garden centre. We will visit again and we are booking ourselves onto the walks on offer in spring to go into the bluebell woods on their land.

We had probably the best ever scones here yesterday. I'm not keen on giving something 5 stars as I think an awful lot are just fakes, but this really deserved it. We are RHS members and its free for us to go round their gardens on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so we did that too. Very nice formal gardens with some great topiary, but its heading into winter so not much in the way of flowers at the moment. I think I'd be a tad miffed if we'd paid £5 each to go round. Its a nursery rather than a garden centre and you can see them growing things on. Lots of hellebores (which are sometimes called Xmas Roses) for sale. We bought some for the shady bit of our garden. £25 for 3 compared to £25-30 for one the same size on the internet.

Stopped here for coffee and a scone during our visit to the gardens. Being school holidays it was busy with all bookable tables booked for lunches and afternoon teas. There are tables inside and outside, I’d recommend those outside. We ordered coffee and cherry scones. They were quickly served. The coffee comes in a mug and scone warmed if you wish. Both were delicious and a treat. It also serves lots of cakes, snacks and lunches plus afternoon tea.

Booked a table for lunchtime and so glad I did. The menu offered the typical country fayre, including various pork pies with salad, quiches, soups, jacket pots, wide range of sandwiches. Portions wre generous and food was locally sourced, supporting independent suppliers. Set in the grounds of a historical priory/country estate, though the priory itself is no longer visible. Excellent views of the local woodland and countryside, with a nursery and country walks to explore. Afternoon teas are available but require booking in advance. Well worth a visit.

We stopped here on the way to Cornwall (via the Cotswolds!)... we took a chance having seen the sign, and it was lovely. The grounds and setting really are beautiful, and the staff were very helpful. My wife had soup and a scone, I had soup and a sandwich. The soup for both was carrot and coriander, homemade clearly. My sandwich was a simple cheddar on white, that’s it, no bells and whistles, and I appreciated that... no messing about, just a decent cheese sandwich, bit of salad and some crisps... our daughter had tuna mayo and again it was no nonsense and spot on. We also had cheese straws that were delicious too. We would gladly eat there again, it was spot on. If you’re passing, we would highly recommend you drop in.

We have been visiting Felley Priory and its tea rooms for years now. A visit to the garden and bluebells in season is always a magical experience. The food is simple but delightful and the cup of tea is of a high standard, served in delightful crockery. The experience of sitting in the garden, listening to the birds and watching a herd of deer traverse the fields near the bluebell wood is an experience not to be missed. We have always found the staff wonderful. However, on recent visits it has become apparent that the staffing levels are not adequate and the poor staff are being run ragged by the work load. We regard the excellent and dedicated staff as the jewels in the crown of this lovely tearoom and we genuinely feel that the staffing levels on a busy day amount to abuse of those dedicated individuals. When orders go wrong due to lack of staffing the poor frontline staff are subject to undeserved rudeness from customers. We can only ask that the management think about this deeply and act to preserve all the superb aspects of this lovely place for the future.

Booked a table for morning coffee - easy to do, friendly service. Sat inside in an old converted building, opposite the beautiful and historical 16th century manor house built on the grounds of what used to be the priory, hence its name. Plenty of seating available inside and out. Due to current COVID situation, only single households can sit at a table inside. Coffee was delicious just like the coffee and walnut cake, of generous size. Cakes available for vegetarians and gluten free requirements. Lovely interior decor showing the heritage of the manor house, its gardens and the priory. Gardens are available to wander around at an extra cost, or a free visit to the nursery offering a range of plants. Car park available. Well worth a visit.

When my parents suggesting taking me and my littlest one out for lunch ‘somewhere nice’ I instantly thought of Felley Priory. It was a random Wednesday afternoon and the place was absolutely heaving (a good sign) we sat outside in the garden and it was such a beautiful setting. We all opted for the soup and sandwich option, the portion sizes were excellent (more than we anticipated) and the presentation was great. The french onion soup was really tasty. We then indulged in a slice each of the coffee and walnut cake, more brilliant portion sizes as the door stop slices arrived, and it was one of the nicest coffee cakes I’ve ever had.We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon there and the staff were all really pleasant and happy to help. Felley Priory is definitely somewhere I would like to spend more of my time.

We were on a coach trip to Felley Priory gardens and were told that the tea rooms were busy when we arrived. So we looked around the gardens (which were fantastic) prior to visiting the tea room when it was less busy. We ordered a ham salad and 57 minutes later it arrived!! There was a note on the menu that a wait of 20-30 minutes could be expected during busy times, but waiting approximately one hour was to much. When the waitress bought the salad to the table she did not even say sorry for the wait. We mentioned it was a long wait but the waitress just said ‘we have had a coach trip in today’. Surely with a pre-booked coach trip extra staff should be taken on for the visit.

There was no sense of urgency, the girl who took my order looked completely fed up and not pleasant to deal with. I ordered coffee and cake, paid and waited at my table. It took 25mins to arrive. The server was very pleasant and the coffee and cake delicious but really? 25 mins for coffee and cake on a Tuesday when some tables are empty? In my last review I said understaffed for a busy event. Such a beautiful place to sit (both inside and out!) for tea or coffee, light lunch or a cake. The views are very pretty and when the sun is out, there is no better place in Nottinghamshire to enjoy some refreshment. On top of that, there are plants in the nursery to buy, and you can even take a wander around the priory garden at a very reasonable price. However, I have just one small criticism and that is the coffee. If you choose a latte, then I am convinced it is not prepared barista style but made from some instant latte mix, which spoils the enjoyment. I love good quality coffee but have never enjoyed it here. The crockery is lovely, the food is delicious and nicely presented, the cakes superb.

Although the staff were friendly and the array of cakes looked tempting, we were disappointed by the coffee and scones we ordered. Most surprisingly, the coffee did not come from the espresso machine which is usual now in most cafes: the choice of black coffee did not include an Americano. Only instant and filtered coffee was available. The cappuccinos we ordered were, it seems, made from a packet (there was a globule of powder on the top of mine), one of those where you simply add hot water. It was disgusting. The scones were over-warmed in the microwave and consequently became dry and chewy before we had finished them. Mine, a cherry scone, had only one or two small pieces of glace cherry in it.

For some years now my elderly mother (in her late 80's) who lives in the local area wanted to visit Felley Priory Gardens. As my wife and I live over 100 miles away the opportunity to visit Felley Priory with my mother are few.We arrived around lunch-time, found a table in the tea room and sat down. The table, and a number of others still had dirty plates sitting there. I cleared the table and my wife obtained menus from one of the waitresses. After we made our choices for lunch my wife went to order, only to be told that there was no food available. A very disappointing state of affairs as at no point had anyone made this fact known to us, even when asking for the menus. This was lunch-time and therefore running out of foods seems like very bad planning.Leaving tables uncleared, and lack of information on the status of food sales seem to show that the tea room was in chaos.Based upon the lack of food we had to leave to find food elsewhere. Felley Priory has therefore lost out on food/drink sales, garden visit sales and plant sales.Overall, a very disappointing visit. All caused by the lack of planning and minimal customer service in the tea room.

We eventually found the disabled parking (no signage) and made our way to the tearoom. The empty tables were all covered in dirty dishes. We cleared a table ourselves and asked for a menu. We were handed a menu then took our seat to choose. When we went to order we were greeted by a very abrupt lady who informed me they had NO food at all left "no pies, no quiche, no bread - nothing!" she exclaimed. I queried why we were given a menu if they had no food but was told they were just about to put up a sign. I find it incredible that a commercial concern can be so ill prepared for a busy sunny day and also so lacking in any form of remorse. We won't be returning.

Gorgeous sunny day perfect for this visit to Felley Priory tea rooms. Our party of three chose pork pie salad and quiche salads and they were lovely, tasty and fresh. We topped this off with cream scones all round and a very large pot of tea.Well done to the friendly staff that run this tea room it's a firm favourite on our list of well organized eateries.

My daughter and I had decided to come after hearing so much about the tea rooms.Im a wheelchair user but can get in and out of the car with crutches on a short distance. We went into the car park but noticed it was down hill to the tea rooms and a good walk down.So we decided to follow the signs for the bus park which was down hill and a reasonable hill too which would have made it hard for the wheelchair pusher thinking disabled parking would be down there. We followed it down but there wasn't any indication as to where the tea rooms were.We came level with some outside toilets.Still no indication of where the tea rooms were or where there was any disabled parking. We didnt see anything of the bus park.Very disappointed. It needs to be advertised on where to go and where any disabled car parking is.Since trying to find it i have looked at other reviews and I noticed on one of the other review disabled parking was mentioned.Im sorry but the problem is an inhouse problem that needs addressing if abled bodied people are abusing it hence not advertising disabled parking.Im quiet happy to park at the back of someone that hasn't got a blue badge in a disabled space.

Visited here with my daughter as a last minute day out. We both ordered toasties and a pot of tea for 2 - which there was plenty of! Toasties were lovely and served with salad garnish and coleslaw. Came to approx £13-00 which was good value for money. Staff were friendly. Would definitely return.

This was an excellent place both to have cake and tea and to enjoy the pleasures of a brilliantly tended garden. The range of cakes available and the friendliness of the staff were a delight, then the opportunity to stroll around the gardens and see the manicured hedges and aromatic flowers infused a day with grace and wonder.

Lovely 5 Star Tea Rooms. You can eat inside or outside but do get there early. I ordered a slice of their beautiful Victoria Sandwich but by the time our order came out the cake had been chosen by many other orders and none was left for me. In all fairness all the cakes looked lovely and were not excessively priced. Their Salads include Gluten free if you require this. The staff were very helpful and most apologetic when they couldn't supply me the cake I wanted. This was a joy to consume here and I will come back again.

Stopped here as a meeting point with a business partner for lunch. We were served by a young lady who was extremely welcoming, friendly and couldn't do enough for us. She also pointed out the specials board in which we took advantage of, the pork pie was delicious with warm potatoes and salad, a piece of ginger cake and a large coffee, all excellent value. Shame they don't serve wine or beer though, as it would compliment the meal.

The most amazing afternoon tea ever, make sure you time it right as lunch and tea often sell out. the indoors is a bit cramped if you are taking a buggy but on a sunny day the outdoor seating is ideal. Some very yummy cake to be had.

We revisited the Tea Room for the first time in around 20 years after wondering why we had not been back for so long.It soon became apparent. The Teas, Coffees & cakes are what you would have found back in the 70's, but with modern day prices. My wife had the Carrot & Coriander Soup, which came with a choice of bread rolls, whilst I had a tasteless 'Lime & Coconut Sponge Cake' - a generous portion, but lacking in flavour. My filter coffee (available with either milk or cream) was weak for my tastes, but I do like a strong cup of coffee :-). All this for just under £ 10. I wish that we had gone to Costas instead! There are two seating areas, with one being subject to draughts each time that the door is opened, whilst the other seemed warm and cosy. The hot meals were popular with the other clientèle, and my wife did enjoy her soup, it was not salty at all.Somehow, it was not for us. Maybe we shall revisit in another twenty years, when we are closer in age to the people we saw there. But, there were a few young mothers with children around.

Sorry for this, went on wife's Birthday for a treat.Parking in a field long distance from anywhere it appeared.Spoke to a returning visitor who said long way down hill, none existent Disabled parking, would not get close with car.Had a drive partially down road, true looking details, as I can only walk on crutches a short way, turned round and went elsewhere.Would also be hard work for anyone who had to push a wheelchair up and down to parking.Apologies but this is what we found.

The gardens are stunning, so peaceful, beautifully kept & my 10 year old son & 2 year old nephew were very happy playing here. The tearooms are amazing. Lovely homemade food, lots of choices on the menu, very pleasant & helpful staff & great service. So good that we had lunch, went for a long walk then went back to the tearooms for more!

I have avoided reviewing this place because I wanted to keep it secret but that is not kind, they deserve to be busy because the tea room / lunch venue is just adorable. We had cream tea on out last but one visit and it was fabulous , but the last time we were too late to eat, our mistiming. The gardens are heavenly at all times of year and I know because I have been. I am jealous of the people who work here, they all must love their jobs , they all seem a happy bunch too. Don't forget Felley priory has very limited opening hours . Tuesday to Friday mostly and one Sunday a month I think.

Met up with three former colleagues here yesterday. None of us knew Felley, although it had been recommended. We sat in the shade for morning coffee and then lunch and as one of my friends said, "We have entered the world of Jane Austen." Lovely food and a terrific environment, we shall certainly return and look round the gardens.

We have been here several times and have always found the food and staff to be excellent. This time I ordered a ham roll - plenty of fresh ham served in a lovely floury soft white farmhouse roll - while my husband had a large fruit scone, served with jam and cream. A large pot of tea completed our lunch. The food is not all that cheap, but is more than compensated by the beautiful surroundings - and you can eat either inside, or outside on the lawn where there are lovely views. The large garden here is lovely to walk around (although maybe rather over-priced at £5 each or £4.50 concessions) but many of the plants are labelled and are available for sale in the nursery.A very pleasant place to visit for a few hours on a nice day, but check the opening days and times first.

We went to a rare plants day at the priory, so it was a special event with probably a lot more visitors than usual. However, they should have extra staff on for special events. I queued for 25 mins to order 2 coffees and 2 pcs of cake. I then waited another 25 mins to have my order brought to our table. 50 minutes in total, for something that just needed to be put on a plate is unacceptable. It was delicious when it finally arrived and no doubt on an ordinary day service is better. Our table had pots on it from previous customers that had not been cleared away. Such a shame as it is a beautiful spot. But next time I go there to a special event, I'll take a flask.

I have visited the Tea rooms several times. Beautiful rural location, cosy cottage type environment inside although there are not many tables and it does get very busy at times. Plenty of seating outside which would be lovely on a sunny day. Tasty soup and sandwiches, good selection of delicious cakes and scones, nice large pots of tea and the staff leave you to sit and chat , we felt no pressure to have to leave. Highly recommended.

Small rooms set in the grounds of this ancient priory - especially nice in the summer months when you can sit out on the lawns, and just let the world go by! The variety and choice of food is very restrictive, but the beverages are fine. Service a bit slow and fuddy-duddy.
