After a walk in Sherwood forest I needed a dog-friendly pub for my food-buff parents and myself to go to for lunch. The Dog and Duck certainly delivered. The interior decor is really quirky and cool with fun music (although I would perhaps recommend they turn it down just a smidge!). The food was delicious pub food - I highly recommend the chorizo chutney - and the staff were friendly.

This is the second visit to The Dog & Duck after two years. We are staying in a log cabin with Forest Holidays - Sherwood Forest. Our meal yesterday was superb, our favourite, steak and ale pie. Today I had the best fish and chips ever. My partner ate country sausages, he found the meal excellent. The wine and larger was reasonabally priced. Today, we found room for chocolate brownie in a caramel sauce, with fruit and icecream, gorgeous! You have to visit this pub if you are in the area, the food is outstanding. Staff and service are excellent too.

Whilst staying at Centre Parcs with the family we popped out for a meal on our own, we chose from the three course menu which was delightful I had potato and leek soup whilst hubby had haddock fish cakes with garnish, followed by salmon with all the trimmings (large portion) and roast turkey dinner again with all the usual extras! Both deserts were to die for, rhubarb creme brulee and apple crumble with custard. All for £13.95 per person before six! Drinks half the price of Centre parcs. Later that evening our family went for a meal who had rib eye steak and other deserts and came with the same opinion as ourselves. Decor very nice with attentive staff, will use again next Christmas!!! Added bonus two miles from the Parc!

Eaten here a few times over the last few years and from a dining perspective, it's gone down hill. The bar has got a great atmosphere and the inside is lovely, however the speed and quality of service leaves a lot to be desired.Recently ate there and pretty much everything went wrong and e finally received the last mains 2 hrs after being seated. They were busy but come one...Food was ok/good but it was the rest of the experience that let it down!In fairness to them, I made my grievances known and it was reflected on the bill.A real shame as this was always a fav little spot, hidden away in the middle of nowhere, unfortunately I won't be going back.

We were staying nearby at Sherwood Pines and met friends who lived locally at this pub for Sunday lunch. Pleasant atmosphere, good reasonably priced food but the service left something to be desired. Had to search and I mean search, for staff to have horse radish and mint sauce bought to the table - surely comes automatically with a Sunday roast? Then had to search for second round of drinks then search for staff to order puds and yes you guessed it, coffee just fell of the plan. Meal took over 3 hours which was OK but with younger child and a baby was a bit of a nightmare. I would give it one more go but this time ensure I had no other plans after the meal.

We are staying at Sherwood Forest and wanted a better than average meal but was unsure if the Dog and Duck would be suitable for children. Really glad we took the chance, as we given a table without problem and our sons meal was homemade chicken nuggets and chipped potatoes which he loved. Overall the experience was great, attentive service, excellent fresh food and unique atmosphere - due to the 50s soundtrack and the lighting, which give a really special feeling on a dark October evening. If you are visiting the area, would definitely recommend a visit and at only £45 for 2 starters, 2 mains, a child's meal and one round of drinks, it was very good value.

We stopped at the Dog and Duck for a late lunch on the recommendation of a friend who lives locally. It is not like any other country pub we have visited in terms of décor! Think Laurence Llewellyn Bowen meets chintz!! We waited several minutes to be seated at a table and even longer for someone to take our order. We did notice that the menu states you should be prepared to wait for up to an hour for food when they are busy. Our food came quite quickly and was delicious! Puddings are tasty and well presented.Would definitely recommend for the quality of the food but the service needs to improve and don't pop in if you want any food quickly!

During our Holiday break at Sherwood Pines we decided to nip into the Dog & Duck as we decided to eat there that particular evening. On entry the decor is definitely not what you expect at your average country pub. Unique in it's own way taking on pieces from different periods with a dash of shabby chic! Our meal was booked in the evening and the pub and restaurant really comes to life with it's lighting and is very warm and welcoming. The food itself is excellent. Although slightly more expensive than your average pub/restaurant, once you have seen the portion sizes and tasted the food it is money well spent! The staff are welcoming and very friendly which adds to the experience.Overall our experience was one that we had to go back the following night and know that we will be returning again in the future - that good it is well worthy of the drive from Leicester!

Visited Sherwood Pines for the day recently, but at lunch time their café was busy so we set off to find the nearest pub for lunch, which just happened to be the Dog & Duck. What looked like a normal looking pub from the outside, turned out to be the most fabulously decorated pub we've ever been in. We were greeted with a friendly welcome and shown to a table for 6 of us in the window, even though we hadn't booked. We hadn't planned on having a large meal but the menu was very tempting. When it arrived the food was gorgeous, large portions of roast beef, lamb shanks and 2 children's meals and the puddings were lovely too. All in all a lovely experience in a fabulous pub with very polite, friendly and helpful staff who couldn't do enough for us. We recently moved to within a mile of this restaurant, which we tried when entertaining guests from USA. It was without a doubt one of the best dining experiences ever. The setting is superb, and the decor unique and wonderful. The food was served in a timely manner, nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The quality of menu and variety of dishes was excellent. The waitress made a mistake in the order and brought an extra dish of salmon which wasn't needed, however, she said to keep it and share (which one of our American chaps was very happy with)! They also offered us free desert due to their error, which was actually in our favour.I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone travelling to the Nottingham or Mansfield area.

I don't think I could write any review that would do justice to the decor or furnishings, so I'm not going to try as I'm not really an expert on such things, and it's all relevant to ones own personal taste.
