Fearns in Leeds

Having previously been here for a coffee I thought it would be an ideal place for lunch. Such a poor experience, especially compared to last time. The music was loud, there was a heavily perfumed smell in the building and the food was disappointing. The sourdough was thinly sliced and burnt, so much so that it resembled crispbread and snapped as such. The poached eggs were lukewarm and hard, it made for a disappointing lunch. I'd think twice about anything other than coffee in future.

I like this place. It’s cheap and cheerful but friendly with quality food and drink. You feel welcome to hang out as long as you like. The food is exactly right and they have exceptional locally baked bread. Also water bowls for dogs. There’s different menus day and evening.

Cancelled my booking 1 day before six of us were due to go for a Christmas meal. They just sent an email and didn't even have the courtesy to ring. I asked for some show of goodwill (they never offered) and they promised a free meal after Christmas. Needless to say it's never happened...they are not responding to my emails. Avoid like the plague! This place will be out of business very very soon.

A regular customer! I recently had a fall going into department through their side entrance. The pleasant receptionist took my details and when my knee swelled up I informed them after which their health and safety contacted me, a Mr Dave Mansbridge. I was told the steps were temporary and should have been replaced. Their receptionist told me another customer tripped the day before. Mr Mansbridge arranged for a sign and tape to be put in the dangerous area and work will be done to make it safe thus admitting it wasn't. I didn't receive an apology for my swolen knee or any form of compensation such as a complimentary meal out of courtesy. Mr Mansbridge Allied Londons health and safety person said we hope you will continue to come to department which was rude and shows they do not value their customers other than the revenue they bring. I am seriously considering giving the legal go ahead for compensation. I shall not return. Hayden Harris.

Had a fab late lunch yesterday with some old(ish!) schoolfriends. Great atmosphere - loved the industrial chic fit-out. Really interesting menu. The pulled lamb with flatbread, yogurt, pomegranate etc was one of the best things I've eaten for months. Generous portions. Great value. Very friendly helpful and prompt service. Would highly recommend.

Took advantage of an offer for a tasting menu which was great value and would happily go back and pay full price. Great food. Loved the emphasis on vegetables - some clever and inventive food that steered clear of being gimmicky. The pork belly was incredible- I don’t usually eat it . Friendly and efficient service. Worried how they can make such a big space work but I hope they can

Oh! This place is just wonderful! We stumbled across it strolling around the dock area and it's such a 'wow' space with a mouthwatering menu and really charming group of young staff. We just had a couple of drinks and sharing plates and it was simply delicious. So new and fresh and airy and spacious

It’s a little bit of a walk from the centre of Leeds but Fearns is well worth a visit! My sister and I had hoped to make the most of the beautiful weather we had been having and sit outside but sadly it wasn’t to be! We chose the lamb flatbread and black pepper chicken salad with a portion of chunky chips and the Yorkshire squeaky cheese. Everything was delightful, I can’t recommend highly enough. The service was good and the prices are reasonable. We had asked for a bottle of the Pinot rose which they didn’t have and then a bottle of the organic white…. Which they didn’t have! We eventually picked a lovely white Pinot Grigio and the girl brought us the bottle and a glass each for not having our original choices. A perfect example of great customer service. A perfect place to while away a few hours and the food really is top notch 😉
