We spotted this place as we moved into the Air BnB upstairs over it. It looked interesting. Inventive-seeming Asian fusion stuff. It was crowded, and we couldn't get a table, so we ordered carry-out and took it upstairs. Nothing was piping hot, and everything seemed a little soggy and tired. They included containers of sauce for every dish, but didn't include instructions for what sauce went with what. We were disappointed.

A very interesting Indo Chinese menu, that actually you need to treat like a tapas style menu though the portions are much bigger than Spanish tapas. Staff very good at advising you regarding your order. Really tasty.

Expensive and small portions. Indo-Chinese food was different. Ordered: 1. Popcorn Cauliflower- super small battered cauliflower. Not even a full floret just small pieces like the size of a babies toe. 2. Crackling spinach- fried spinach again small portion 3. Bombay Chilly Prawns - 2 shrimp in a great sauce. Really great sauce but small portion big price -only 2 shrimp 4. Lollypop Chicken - spicy yummy sweet sauce only a few drums and small size 5. Naan - ordinary and again small power for price 6. Rice- ordinary and small for price 8. Ribeye- small and expensive Service was great but food was subpar. They even gave us a card with a QR code to review on Google. Really??? Rather go to Chinatown or an Indian restaurant than return here. We left hungry after paying 120 gbp and went to eat elsewhere again.

First of all, the food was good, although quite a few items deep fried - but tasty. The concept of sharing plates also good. We had a few cocktails which were also delicious. So if you are going for food, then it’s great! We booked for a group and we were sat at a table that probably only could hold half the number of people we were. Although we had booked and paid deposit in advance. It was so crowded, there was no place to put some of the dishes we ordered, we managed to knock half a cocktail with some plates and when I was eating, I had to position my elbows in a way that I didn’t knock my friends. When I say there was no space, it is an understatement. Finally, half way through our meal people were hovering to take our plates away while we were still eating. We were told that 1.5 hours is over and they have another booking. We were not offered any dessert options or tea or coffee. So we left the restaurant in a hurry within 1 hour and 37 mins! I might go back, but never in a group!

Very unique and beautiful tastes in all the dishes we ate. It states it is a fusion of Indian and Chinese, but I found it more on the Chinese side. Tapas style dishes - small plates but I found quite generous portions. Staff were very friendly. Not too expensive considering it is in the heart of Covent Garden. The only negative is that the table was extremely sticky! Would recommend.

We ended up here as the restaurant for our original booking was way too loud and we couldn't hear each other speak. Thankfully, Fatt Pundit had a 2 seater table free, which was very lucky as the place was full! We ordered a few cocktails and the waiter was kind enough to go through the flavours of each. The plum and tamarind cooler was very refreshing, with the tamarind packing a nice punch! We then ordered about 4 small plates between us, including the rabbit wontons and the chilly prawns, plus a side of broccoli. The food was all well-cooked and seasoned, and, if I'm honest, I can't fault a thing about this place. The mix of Indian and Cantonese flavours was unique and delicious, and I'll definitely be going back!

Was really looking forward to this place as heard great reviews. Turned out to very very disappointing food. The service was reasonably good. My friend and I are vegetarian. We ordered Crackling spinach - very average - 5/10 Veg Momos - so so bland 2/10 Mock chilli chicken - reasonable flavour and texture 6/10 Veg Hakka noodles - bland - 3/10 Scezuan egg fried rice - no flavour - 2/10 Not sure why when heard good things about the food, but maybe it was a bad night for them Would not go back or recommend

I went for lunch with some old world colleagues. The only downside I can think is that the air con was slightly too cold. After the service was excellent and the food amazing. I had the beef dumplings with the lamb chops and prawns. All were very good. My friends had the paneer, monkfish and a few vegetarian sides. We all agreed we would definitively be back.

Despite the plethora of restaurants you could take your pick from in Soho, Fatt Pundit is definitely one to try. We booked a table for a pre-matinee lunch, and their 'it arrives when its ready' policy meant we were quickly served our small plates in a steady stream. The momos are delicious: soft, pillowy dumplings with a variety of fillings. We also had the soft shell crab, for which you get a substantially-sized crab in a spicy, crisp batter. Can't wait to go back!

You are were spoiled for choice walking around Covent Garden, but had picked out this venue due to its great reviews. We were not disappointed. Mac our host was quick to recommend a beverage and talked us through the simple but enticing menu. It wasn’t long before our table was filled with sumptuous dishes. We had momos to start, then a selection of main dishes. My personal favourite being the ribeye and dry chilli. We were treated to exceptional service and the whole meal ran like clockwork. Would recommend to both family and friends, and look forward to visiting again.

I met a friend for lunch at this branch of Fatt Pundit, we were drawn here by the previous reviews The waiter recommended that we had a number of dishes to share between us, we ended up over ordering We had the goat momo to share, it was OK. From the smallpaltes we had the chilli paneer, the crispy okra, stir fried brocolli and the crunchy crab, again all reasonable but not special, The Kolkata chilli duck was good, like a spicy stir fry The lamb chops were plump but underspiced We had bing bread and fried ginger rice to accompany the meal. coctails, beers, and finished with masala tea Service was good, though teh table was tiny and the plates kept coming, making it very difficult to find space and we ended up rushing the meal to keep pace with teh food

Made reservations to go here. Got here early but was not seated and was told we had to back at our reservation time even though the restaurant had availability. This place is close to Covenant garden so you can walk around to kill time. Restaurant is small, and felt like we were all squeezed in. It’s two levels, top had tables and bar, downstairs has kitchen, tables and restrooms. We were seated downstairs and it was full. Service started off great. We placed orders for drinks and food. They cater for allergies which is always a plus. We ordered the chicken and veggie momos which were cold like they had been sitting out for a while. Rabbit wontons were spicy but tasty. Lamb was a hit, it was juicy and flavorful. Hakka noodles were yum reminded me of a place in Singapore that made those street type noodles. Monk fish had a funky flavor and had an after taste which was difficult to point out what it was. Bread was decent. Place is cute with its Deco etc. Sitting downstairs, poor ventilation your clothes do smell of food. Place did get busy and service got slow. Our server was awesome and very helpful which they had more staff downstairs. Overall good experience and yes, worth the hype.

We stumbled across Fatt Pundit one rainy Saturday afternoon shopping in Convent Garden. Reading the menu outside we entered with the promise and hope of being taken on an unusual Indian-Chinese fusion food journey. The reality was unfortunately a lot more pedestrian and we found the dishes to be rather derivative of what you find in an average Chinese/Indian restaurant and the execution/quality lower than the prices justify, particularly the momos which rather than being fat and juicy morsels were quite anaemic and thus expensive for the price. The other dishes we ordered were tasty but forgettable. The deco and atmosphere borrows a lot from Dishoom and in some ways we think Fatt Pundit have captured the post-colonial India vibe better. The service was very slow and while there was a lot of staff running around it seemed they were stretched, which to be fair it was a Saturday afternoon, but in combination with the so-so food it did impact our overall experience and impression of the place. Notwithstanding the above if you walk in with the expectations you would have for an average Chinese/Indian restaurant then Fatt Pundit delivers. The best dish we tried was the Tamarind Glazed Potatoes which were delicious! Also, the staff, when they did turn up were polite and helpful.

Had an absolutely delicious meal here last evening. Chose the pre-theatre menu and the portions were more than substantial. The service was excellent too. Nidhi, in particular, was ever so sweet and efficient. Will definitely return.

Place was very busy, which is a good sign. Service was friendly. Ordered chicken Manchurian (ok), egg Szechuan fried rice (great but not much Szechuan pepper in it), brownie with vanilla icecream and hot chocolate sauce (yummy), masala chai (asli and delicious). Would like to come back and try a few more dishes before I make up my mind!

I got there without booking, it was late and still didn't have dinner, the place would close in less than 1 hour: no problem, they had me quickly sit and order. I had Malabar Monkfish Curry, with Burnt Ginger Rice. The food was amazingly good, the service was quite satisfying. I totally recommend this place.

Very expensive, small portions but high rates, ambience in Covent garden is not you would expect, very dirty and unhygienic. Small tables in cramped place. For that money you can enjoy 3 times in a chinese buffet or street shop.

My daughter and her friends went for a special 16th Birthday celebration. The food, they reported, was incredible and the atmosphere was super. I wanted to say a big thank you to the staff for being so friendly, singing her Happy Birthday and even giving her a birthday card. Fantastic experience. Thank you.

Delicious food. The Malabar Curry(monkfish), crackling spinach, Bombay chilli prawns,Hakka chilli paneer and Lamb chops were excellent. The chicken momo's were a bit bland and the stir fry szechuan noodles were appetising. Mango lassi was refreshing. The portions are small but reasonably priced.Maisha the lady who looked after was attentive, welcoming and recommended some of the dishes(good choice) A small hidden gem amidst the hustle and bustle of central London

We had a very friendly welcome. The cocktails were spicy and tasty. The food was excellent and kept coming at a good pace. Only disappointment was the Bing bread which was a bit doughy and slightly raw in the middle. We switched to rice, which was great, and the bread did not appear on the bill. We put it down to a bad batch, so would try it again. Really enjoyed the beef, duck and soft shell crab. The crispy spinach deserves to be a signature dish. We finished with the sizzling brownie, which was decident, theatrical and fun.

The food here was fantastic. We stumbled upon this place after looking for somewhere nearby Kings Cross. We were nearly tempted by a few other restaurants nearby but glad we continued to Xia Kai. Whilst it has a very unassuming interior the food certainly made up for this. The menus are all represented by pictures and a brief decoration which was excellent. All 3 of us commented on how good it was. I’d definitely recommend finding this place and going for some lunch or dinner. I had beef in chilli oil which was probably one of the best Chinese dishes I’ve ever had in the UK! Go and enjoy the food.

a small place in a basement in Paddington, good traditional Malaysian dishes, beware on the hot ones...fair prices and nice service.
