Fat Cat Cafe Bar in Derby

Lovely food and staff!! We booked in for a family birthday meal. Food came out quickly and they have a very good atmosphere. We will be back again.

A male member of staff started to climb the stairs, stopped and looked at some debris on the stairs then flicked it backwards with his foot where it landed next to me. I said “excuse me” as he climbed the stairs but was ignored apart from a half look back from the top of the stairs. The issue was raised with a female member of staff who was very apologetic and cleaned the floor. Upon descending the stairs some time later, the individual was asked about the incident, he did apologise in a completely false manner but then went on to say “Is there anything else Sir” in a very condescending manner. That angered me somewhat and I was then accused of being aggressive in my manner when I was merely responding to the manner I was being spoken to. I’ve been going to this bar regularly for many years and have always found the staff to be most welcoming.

Bouncers are far too aggressive , seem to be too focused on trying to stop people from talking to other people over the metal railings, that I was punched in the stomach 2 years ago, and my daughter had her drink thrown over her just last night. To add insult to injury, when you question their conduct, you are met with unnecessary aggression and told to get out like you are the one that has done something wrong. No other establishment has bouncers this unpleasant. It makes you feel unsafe, when they are supposed to nake you feel the opposite. Fat cats need to get rid of all doormen and recruit from the same company who work at mu mu, mosh etc... so much more professional

We (myself & 7 others) visited Fat Cats yesterday for a bottomless brunch to celebrate my mums 50th. On arrival there were a few people outside but none in. We were seated, our food order was taken, our drinks order was then taken. We were then asked to pay the remaining balance before we got these orders - deposits had been paid when booking. Paying the balance was painful, the staff were confusing matters and didn’t seem to know what to do. Overall the experience wasn’t a great one. The drinks were very icy and sweet - The staff were very dismissive and rude, for saying how quiet it was the service was very slow and not up to a good standard. To top it off I’ve got food poisoning from the burger I had😊 I wouldn’t recommend this place to friends, nor will I be returning.

Arrived in Derby and went to this place. Bar staff … fantastic and when ordering pint of neck oil, told that its 2 for 1 every friday till 10pm, bonus ! Decided to eat here, and same as the service, the food was fantastic ! Great pub with great atmosphere in a great location. Highly recommended, shall definitely br returning, thanks fat cats x

Shocking food and service. We ordered food, most of which was out of stock. The loaded fries arrived and the chips were still hard and not cooked. The new chips came out 20 minutes later and were still not correct. Manger was very rude and had no interest in solving the issue. Avoid!

Came Tuesday night, so was half price on some of the prices, so 2/5 reflects the fact the overall price was not too bad - if I had paid full price for this I think I would have kicked up a fuss !!! No vinegar would you believe (well was given some when I finished) Order came wrong for 1 of our party, even with clear instruction on ordering. Food was fair, but of course 3 of us had finished before our wrong order turned up ! This used to be a really nice place to eat years ago, but hey I guess all places have their day, & I think this really has had its day. I spent some nice time with my family though, so was a nice evening never the less.

It was lovely to have a table that accommodated our party of 7. There was some confusion over which cocktails were on offer as the menu is not that clear. However, service was great and we had a fab time!

Absolutely freezing no heating sat with coats & scarves on all night. The woman behind the bar is so slow & cannot pull a decent pint & also has an attitude.

been coming here for years and it did suffer a little this year but its had a refurb which looks stunning. There is also a new manager (very tasty) who is very familiar with the regulars and goes out of his way to come and say hi. Fat cats is getting back to how Dan use to have it with its chill out acoustic music in the day before the tempo goes up in the evening. Glad to see it coming back on top.

As the title says. Doorman was so rude and aggressive. First I got told to take my hat off which I did and he told me to put it on a dirty muddy wall with no protection. Why I have to ruin my property I don't know. They could have had a box at least. Next I had a drink inside after I got rid of my hat in a safe place. And then came outside for a smoke. It was cold so I put my hood up. Then a bouncer comes storming over and aggressively tells me to put my hood down. Which I replied with why? It's cold, you've seen my face and I'm outside. He wouldn't tell me why and he just said because I told you to do it. I'm also I licensed SIA badge holder and I've done doors a lot. This guy was on a power trip who needs his badge taken off him. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from someone who is supposed to keep the peace. Its no wonder people get in fights when you have bullies like your door staff who try and intimidate your customers. I had to leave before I started something more. You need to take a long hard look at who you're hiring as this is totally unacceptable and I will be taking this further.

Here on a hen do, bar tender couldn’t even raise a smile and after waiting 20 minutes for a drink and highlighting his colleague had avoided serving me for a younger female I was told ‘I’m not even going to serve you now’ wow! I mean if you were full I could understand your pickiness but when there’s only about 20 people here staff like you are destroying the business. … I and my group of ten won’t be back…. How rude… young fella, clearly thought he was better than everyone else! Restart needed!!!

Love this place but today I keep being asked if everything is ok and whether I need anything, I’m fine thanks, I like to go the bar to get my pint too, not all of the regular friendly staff today……..

What a disappointment! Some friends and I had booked and fully paid for a bottomless brunch yesterday...greeted by a defensive front of house person who would benefit from some customer service training telling us the kitchen wasn't open and we'd had an email ..which we hadn't ... strange to be told, "You can shout at me all you want" when no one was shouting, just asking for a refund ...we were offered one free drink...mine was basically soda with a splash of aperol. So disappointing and could have been handled so much better. I've been a regular at a number of Fat Cats since they started... first and last time to the one in Derby.

Terrible experience - so shocked - we were meeting at friends for brunch (we pre payed) and arrived to be told the kitchen is shut!! We were then told to apply for a refund via the APP..the one person behind the bar needed some customer service training wasn’t appropriate because she tried to blame someone else and didn’t take accountability. Shocking!

Being going to this bar for many years no problem at all with family friends not a problem at all went to go in Saturday night and was told by one off the door staff we wasn’t allowed in because there was a fight in there last year and the people who started fighting had the same brand off clothes went in there 2 weeks ago with my misses with the same brand of clothes on straight in no problem we wasn’t drunk or doing drugs just wanted a drink not shouting just a drink so are they going to check every time there is a fight to check what brand off clothes they are wearing then not let people in with that brand on

The drinks are over priced and small glasses. Food chicken strips said 8 strips with dressing it's actually 1 strip cut into 8 rip off served a box wooden cutlery. Won't be ordering there again. £6.50 For cheesey chips had about 15 chips with melted cheese on top which was hard... waited an hour for it as well

We visited fat cats last night for bottomless pizza and cocktails and we were absolutely blown away by the value and service! The lady who served us (I think she was called Holly but I was very drunk when she told me) was amazing! So polite and friendly and totally on the ball with ordering our drinks. It cost us £27 each and I think we worked out that if we would have paid individually it would have been around £80 (but again, very drunk so could be wrong!) The atmosphere was great, the cocktails were amazing, the pizza was fab. Cannot recommend more highly!

12 aug , no air condition in the middle of summer upstairs was like a sweat box , not even a ceiling fan. Had a family birthday but spent more time having to go outside where there was a bit of air but in the upstairs function room was like being in a greenhouse. Windows were open but that made no difference. Other than like being in a oven was ok.

Keenan was really rude when we advised our drinks weren’t correct. Refused us a replacement after staff tried the drinks

Excellent service from a really friendly team. George and Reza went out of their way to accomodate my requests to amend my pizza and to delight their customer. Lovely atmosphere, delicious food and fantastic service. Thank you gentlemen!

One of the best Christmas meals I have had in a long time. All 3 courses were good but compliments to the chef for the main course it was delicious, served hot and all meals arrived together. Service was excellent . Thank you to all of the staff for a cracking Christmas lunch.

One of your bouncers attacked me when I was leaving baring in mind I'm a women and a man (describing without being racist) he was wearing a turburn. My friend was accused being drunk and I asked 'why're answered my question by saying 'she could hardly stand' I asked my questions but soon began to leave without a argument. As leaving he began to push me out. I explained he shouldn't be pushing me as I am agreeing to leave so I had to use my force to get him off. As I got him off. He then pushed me into the floor. With witnesses after asking if I was okay. I know have a graze on my elbows, wrist and knees after the incident.

I love fat cats and their cocktails,the staff are great ,friendly ,good service .But what i hate and have hated since lock down is the ladies toilets ,it lets the place down massively, its a running joke with my friends make sure u go to toilet before fst cats.Because of the taps not working well ,not proper taps ,broken toilet seat etc .So yesterday I went first time after lockdown, husband goes to toilet ,brilliant he says done up the toilets! New taps etc .Gents always had better taps anyway .So I go to ladies ,new doors ,new walls ,no graffiti, which is not the bars fault. Taps still the awful old ones ! Went to turn first one ,no water ,second no water ,third no water .We are currently being told wash our hands ,which I do anyway and no running water ! I told the member of staff who seemed surprised. Another lady said to me ,why dies the gents get new taps and running water do they hate woman ,he partner had told her and like me she avoids the toilets. Its such a shame you could loose customers because you don't look after your ladies toilets .

I popped in for a quick lunch. It was early so quite quiet, however this meant I had most of the staff looking after me Dan was an informative host taking me through the food menu, opted for the homemade burger. It was clearly fresh and was dressed well. Chef even came out to check everything was Ok. Worth the money and will try and get in at that time again. Great experience.

Incredibly rude staff, I know it’s minimum wage but that doesn’t mean minimum effort...won’t be returning

This organisation became physical and aggressive towards our group and we have video evidence. We have reported this incident to the police.

Food & Drinks were avarage, prices were alright and hygienic place. Furniture however, they looked as if someone took them out of the dumpster. Staff members were friendly and welcoming, but service was slow unfortunately. Would I come again? Not sure

I was lucky to find this small restaurant & bar on my way to The Last Post Micro Pub. It's a pleasantly designed, relaxed place [At least it was when I visited] that offers an interesting menu of international food at moderate prices. There are plenty of deals to be had, too, like half prices on meals on Tuesdays. The all-female staff were very welcoming, and the waitress actually coerced me into *saving* (!!!) money: I'm not normally a dessert person - of course waitresses are expected to offer you one, but what she didn't say was: By spending UKP 2.95 on a piece of rather nice lemon cheesecake, I got UKP 4.95(!) knocked off of the bill! That was a very pleasant surprise. As a mains I had the "Fat Cat Marinated Chicken", which was nicely presented and very tasty. The beer selection is, naturally in such an establishment, geared towards fizzy lagers though. But on the whole I enjoyed the meal and the place itself very much. A short walk from Derby centre, and recommended!

We dined here on a Tuesday early evening. The dishes that we ordered were enjoyed by all.They were freshly cooked and well presented. The chips they serve are home made and very nice. They have a good menu which includes very good burger dishes. We found the staff to be friendly and obliging. On Tuesdays drinks and selected dishes are half price and it gets really busy later in the evening. We will be returning again as usual.

Nice enough tries to be a up market swank bar but it’s just a normal bar except this is the kind of bar where the staff are constantly sat on or hugging the radiator is a poor show especially when there on the phone

Four of us visited The Fat Cat for a pre concert meal. We purchased four drinks at the bar & made our way over to the dining section. There was nobody there to guide us to appropriate seats, so we seated ourselves as the place was almost empty anyway (perhaps not a good sign in retrospect) We were then told that the Kitchen couldn't cope this evening so we couldn't be fed! One of our group asked to see the manager & complained that we had bought drinks to go with our meal. after quite a stressful situation She offered to feed us......we shouldn't have bothered!The Lamb Tagine was mediocre served with rice that was so clogged, it needed a knife to cut through.The Pizza was shaped like a pitta bread with very sparse toppingsThe Minute Steak was like a shoe stick on soleHaving said that we did get a generous discount.....but we would rather have paid full price for a decent mealWill not be returning

The staff in here and unkind and unhelpful. Came in for a few drinks with friends on Tuesday to be met by rude and hostile staff and bouncers. Very unhelpful and put a downer on the evening. Very very disappointed!!!! :(

Appalling service wasn’t busy about 4 people in waited 50 minutes for starter then another 20 for mains that was no where in site, so didn’t bother waiting asked for our money back the girl was very rude saying the mains was on its way been sat way over n hour so said no I would pay for starters n a refund for the rest, she then said they were short staffed in the kitchen but the chef was ok to keep coming out n helping herself to drink n chatting, she also went for a cigarette and come in and didn’t wash her hands before serving someone at the bar. Gross. she got the money n chucked it at me disgusting service she was more bothered about tapping her nails then anything else, would not return if it was free. Needs better staff

The food was fine, the waitress was as slow as a snail, hardly any people in.I had a pizza , couldn't eat it all , so asked for a box, they don;t do boxes, it was then wrapped in tin foil, She sujessted I bought the offer of two drinks for the price of one, for £10 something, I said I'd never drink them all. oh they're really refreshing , I'm sure you will, well I had trouble drinking the first, no taste! I asked if she had a container to put it in e.g an empty bottle, no, so I asked if I could buy the glass, no. Not a happy bunny , will not go there again, pity because the food was o.k. D

Sitting outside enjoying a pint or two, service at the bar was quick and efficient, this is certainly a busy and buzzing place to spend time at.

Good atmosphere with the punters drinking in the large outside table area in the sun, tables cleared by staff quickly of empties and great service by all female bar staff, especially one who was very bubbly, good alcohol choices, well worth a pint.

We visited for a spot of lunch mid/late afternoon so the place was almost empty; Menus were provided pretty quickly but we waited and waited for our order to be taken, in the end we went to the bar and ordered (not sure if that’s the process but. It wasn’t explained to us when we were given the menus); once ordered the food was ready and sat on the pass until the chef had rung the bell 4 times.

Stopped here for an early dinner on Saturday evening. It was very warm so it was nice to sit out but the outdoor seating was shaded so very pleasant. Had a decent dinner of fish and chips. Trays available to carry drinks outside.

We were with friends taking advantage of half price Tuesday, price fine and the food not too bad.. Service good. Enjoyed our food but would not like to pay full price for the portion size. Very good that all drinks were also half usual price !

We visit Fat Cats every week to have a meal. The waiters and waitresses are great. Very friendly place with very good chefs. Our food is always excellent. Admittedly the toilets are in need of a refurb, but everything else is very good.

We went for a drink and ended up walking out as no one was serving us. The blonde girl behind the bar seemed too bothered about dancing like a plonker and that's being kind than serving people.

Restaurant is well designed, service was excellent. We had fajitas, burger and pizza - all delicious. Compliments to the chef and waitress Shannon. Will be back!

This is a nice bar with Jack and Abbey managing it. This is a restaurant bar type establishment, later on a Tuesday evening it turns into a late bar.All the staff are friendly and obliginging and seem to enjoy what they are doing. We usually visit on a Tuesday early evening. Drinks are half price and selective meals on the menu are also half price.

Went on line to check the menu , finish serving 9.00pm ok that suits me . Arrived 8.25 to eat , only to be told the restaurant is shut as they have been busy. Not what I expected from such an establishment

Every single night out in derby she is the only member of staff to put a smile on our faces. The only reason we know her name is due to her friendly attitude and happy vibes. She’s a derby treasure, and a guaranteed happy smile. - Jess.

Had been for a meal nearby so popped in for a drink at 7.30pm on a Friday night. Just managed to get a seat downstairs even at that time. Staff were very friendly. Just planned to have one drink but atmosphere good so stayed for another. DJ started at around 9 - enjoyed the music even for a couple in their 50's. All in all a pleasant 2 hours.

Around 20 of us went yesterday for our annual Christmas meal and I thought it was really good value. We paid in advance and got three courses for £20 rather than £25. I chose steak for my main course and it was delicious and there were plenty of vegetables to go round. The staff were brilliant as we had a few late arrivals and we were allowed to wait until they arrived. Would certainly be my choice for next year.

Met up with friends for lunch, the place was empty. One part of the restaurant, the heating was on full blast it was unbearable and due to prams could only sit opposite the bar area. Which was ok as we were near the disabled toilet/changing area. However it was locked and they didn’t know where the key was!!

Went on a Tuesday with my other half as was told it was half price, prices were cheap however portion sizes were questionable, for the price we paid no bad but had we had to pay full price it wouldn’t have been worth it. It’s got a nice outside area and the service was good and it was also clean however finding somewhere to sit was hard, most of the tables were booked so we had to stand for nearly a hour before we found somewhere to sit and we had called in advance and they told us we didn’t need to book, however other than that it was good,

Met with friends for a meal. I have been here in the past and really enjoyed the food so expectations were high. I chose the Fat Cat Burger with a garlic cheese bread as a side. The burger arrived and my plate was swimming in liquid cheese. It was like milky water. The brioche bun was completely soggy and I think I had tops...8 chips. The menu stated it came with ‘slaw’. I was expecting fresh deli style. This was basic coleslaw that possibly could have come Tesco. The garlic cheese bread was undercooked and the cheese was sweaty rather than grilled? I returned the burger and ask for a replacement. The new burger arrived and was a slight improvement, no liquid on the plate but the burgers were just full of oil and really greasy. The chips had been reheated so the triple cooked chips were cooked for a fourth time. Soggy chips. Non of the waiters returned to check on the meals at any point. The kitchen staff do not have their hair tied back. The toilets were disgusting, paint peeling off all the cubicles.

Eating breakfast outside in the courtyard in the lovely morning weather is a perfect way to start the weekend. English breakfast is top quality and cheap so well worth a visit if you're venturing into the city.

Went for a Saturday lunch and drinks here ...bar service was a bit slow ... although the pretentious bar staff had to deal with even more pretentious and tw@ty customers ... food service was quick.. but limited menu.... great gareden area ... although if the HSE visited the outside benches are a big H&S; risk.

Staff are very hit and miss. The male was amazing the female was awful. Drinks were okay and reasonably prices. Outdoor area needs a sruce up.

We arrived to order Strongbow Dark Fruits, to our avail as the barrel had not been changed. So we continued to wait, around 10 minutes at the bar, and decided that we’d rather look at the Drinks Menu at a table instead. After finally being served drinks, and a starter (Nachos) the nachos came first before the drinks. Half way through the starter our drinks arrived - still not Strongbow, as the barrel STILL hadnt been changed after continually asking whether it’s available or not. We still didn’t get a straight answer, as it seems as though the staff on at that particular time didn’t have a clue. We promptly left soon after this, as we got “pushed out” when the staff came over - after a STARTER may I add - asking if we’d “like the bill” after stating beforehand that we’d order the starter “FOR NOW”.

We only went in for cocktails but left after a 20 minute wait at the bar having not been served. Another customer pushed in the queue and was served before us with no apology from staff (who had acknowledged we had been there longer).

Me and my friends had a wonderful and attentive meal this Friday. After settling in we noticed one of our favourite restaurant manager walking by. After waving him over and having a catch up we was back on track with our food. Everything was cooked wonderfully and the drinks were great. Music was probably a bit loud but then again it was Friday night. Would highly recommend and thanks for looking after us again Ads.

Once a fabulous place to start an evening but alas no more. Got off to a bad start, ordered a gin cocktail a new staff barman poured me the labelled gin as stated on the menu but another staff member (possibly the manager) told him that in future he was to pour gin from a bottle he pulled from under the counter....cheep spirits anyone? Place tired, if you intend sitting outside on a warm evening, wear your scruffs as seats filthy and covered in mound. Toilets disgusting, no soap or water, taps hanging off the walls really disappointed.

For a birthday party with around 60 guests you'd think there would be more than two members of staff on the bar. Absolutely shocking. Waited half an hour for a glass of wine, not even exaggeration. Went downstairs to see if would be better and it's worse, why are they're only two members of bar staff on a Saturday night with 241 cocktails is beyond me. Had to buy two drinks at a time because the wait is that long. Not fair on the staff who are working and being swamped - you need more bar staff, and it's not the first time. Definitely not coming on a weekend again not worth the wait

Its a bar and busy, plenty of space both inside & out to seat (depending on the weather) we were lucky the sun had arrive for April, staff were not many but good, plenty of choices of alcohol, well worth apint.

Nice place although a bit cold but nearly £4 for a single Martell + 95p for a tiny splash of coke is outrageous & that is perhaps why there were very few people in ! Before you go check out other places which are just as nice but better value. Shame on the owners. M&K; (Derbys)

Its an ok bar, friendly bar staff and the dj was good. disappointed to see Stongbow on offer (given that these type of bars think they are in an 'upmarket' area of Derby they could pick a better cider!) and even more disappointed to be charged £2.25 for a half of it! Again these places need to remember which part of the country they are situated in! Not London! probably won't come in here again out of choice.

Had a lovely evening. The food was lovely and the pub itself is very comfortable. Jason was very attentive to our needs. Only one complaint regarding a pizza that we ordered which hadn't been cooked long enough. Jason was very apologetic and asked if it could replaced. Instead the cost was deducted from our bill. Other than that we all had a lovely evening. Tuesday evening half price offer well worth it.

We have just visited Fat Cats for the third Tuesday in a row - fantastic value on half price Tuesdays. In the last 3 weeks we've had an evening meal, last week a lunchtime meal & today a full English breakfast - 2 full brekkies & 2 lattes for £10 - amazing value. The service was friendly & prompt. The brekki was fab, freshly cooked & piping hot, you got 2 rashes of very thick tasty bacon, 2 proper sausages, none of the plastic Walls type rubbish! Plus 2 eggs, beans, fresh tomatoes sautéed mushrooms 2 hash browns & a slice of toast. It was the nicest brekki we've had & considering the day before we were at a cafe in SadlerGate & had 2 lattes plus 2 caramel slice flapjack type cakes & that was £10.60 - Fat Cat brekki just great value. All the food we have had over the last 3 visits has been very good, no complaints at all & at all times the staff helpful & friendly. We need to get out of the 'Tuesday' habit as not good for the waistline but just too good an offer to miss!

We had a meal last Tuesday, food was okay, value due to being half price. But the table was terrible, every thing stuck to it, our drinks and arms!!! I don't think they were dirty but the varnish coming off. We couldn't change table as packed!

Went on a Tuesday 50% off food. Toilets no loo roll and table sticky. Ordered extras which didn't arrive. When the extras did arrive the bacon was almost raw! Food was luke warm. 3 times cooked chips were in fact under cooked hard potato wedges. Overall a poor experience

Had a really nice time in here yesterday, my food was really nice and came out quickly. What stood out for me however, was that Ive worked in hospitality myself so I appreciate good service. The girl we were served by was really friendly and made us feel like she'd known us for ages. (I think her name was Abbie or Annie, blonde short hair). Ive normally just gone in on Tuesdays for the offer but I'm going to try to come in more often because of the friendly staff.

We had a few drinks and they were ok. The bar staff seemed pretty miserable and the table was dirty and sticky. As was the bar so my bag ended up covered in someone else's cocktail spillage..It's a nice place and the cocktails were tasty. It's good that they are always buy one get one free.

My Mums favourite place for Sunday Lunch!Fab deal if two roasts with a bottle of wine to share £23.95The roast dinner is amazing, I had beef with all the trimmings and couldn't manage pudding! In Sunday it's a nice chilled atmosphere, great service and food! If it's s sunny day you can even enjoy your lunch outside in the lovely garden!Worth a visit
