If you enjoy a coffee and great slice of cake or light meal - I rate this is the best in the UK. OK, so I'm a Kendal lad, but my job means I've lived all around the UK and travelled overseas widely. It's a fun and quirky café (not the uniform brand marketing of many coffee shops) and has a great menu. The staff are very knowledgeable and after your coffee, will blend and grind coffee to your taste for you to take home. A visit to the Lakes is not complete without a coffee in Farrer's.

Unfortunately had a very bad experience we were given the wrong coffees and only realised after drinking a little,I politely asked if he would just remake one for my wife as it was too strong for my wife, the young man became very arrogant tried to blame us and would take no responsibility for his error,he said it would be chargeable even though it was his error, then a young lady came over and chipped in with very poor attitude as well,I asked to see management but was told no one there and was asked to leave the shop.sorry would not return and cannot recommend

We were greeted by 6 negative comments when we visited. 1. Please stand there and wait to be served. 2. We are very busy. 3. What have you come for? 4. Are you going to eat? To which I replied 'I would like to look at the menu'. 5. The wait time for food is 20 to 25 minutes. 6. Please just stand there (as I tried to pop my head around the corner to see how busy it was....) Needless to say we left.

Had read the good reviews for this tearoom/cafe & decided to try it on a visit to Kendal, we were not disappointed. The cafe is a unique old building, they serve brekfasts/meals/cakes & sell items for taking home. We had tea & wholemeal scones, delicous ! , the other cakes looked good too. Would go there again, worth a visit if you like something a bit different.

A great pity to have to write a negative review about somewhere we've always enjoyed using, but I'm afraid we were distinctly unimpressed with our last visit. We both ordered soup. When it arrived, mine was piping hot, the other, (my wife's), cool-ish, so was sent back for re-heating. By the time it was brought back, (how can 2 minutes in a microwave take over 12 minutes!!?) I'd finished mine so that wasn't too good a start to the lunch. We were then left waiting for the table to be cleared and to then be able to order desserts and more coffee but despite the waitress "passing through" a number of times she didn't make any move towards us, so after waiting some time we gave up, paid, left (no one bothered to ask if everything had been o/k), and made our way to M & S café where we had delicious cakes and coffee. Maybe that should be our first port of call for lunch when we're next in Kendal.

Atrocious service. Staff unaware of what cakes on offer - 'it's written on the blackboard'. Coffee and scone brought to the table separately after a delay of about 5-7 minutes and two requests. After complaining when paying on departure I was asked 'Was everything else alright?'. NO.

Visited the Lake District after many years absence and were distinctly underwhelmed with the meals we had had, until we found this gem of a place. Intended to just have a coffee but ended up having the smoked salmon and scrambled egg brunch which was delicious. This, plus a pot of the exceptional house blend dark roast coffee and a pot of green tea, both with easily 2 cups each for under £15. Staff were lovely, service quick and efficient, toilets spotless. Enjoyed reading about the history of the building. Such a refreshing change from the chain cafés.

Truly, if you love chocolate and chilli, you must visit Farrer's Tea & Coffee House, Kendal (EST 1819) for one of their chilli chocolate brownies! Everytime I eat in or visit their little shop, I receive outstanding customer service - this brownie is outstanding too! Thank you especially to Abi who recommended the brownie today and served me so well. Abi, always lovely, was friendly, knowledgeable & professional. It is difficult to capture this brownie in words.. beautiful, fresh, decadent, with the most amazing textures - obviously packed full of quality ingredients. I had my first one today; taking the last two away with me! Compliments to the very gifted Baker and to the entire Farrer's Tea & Coffee House, Kendal team.

We have been coming to this establishment for about 6 months and generally enjoy the scones and lovely loose leaf tea. We have had one occassion where we had to bring an issue to the attention of the manager but that was resolved. We visited today and were served a horrible pot of tea which tasted like grubby hot water. We just assumed they had made a mistake and given us a flavoured tea. However, when we asked about it we were told it wasn't a mistake but that they were trying a new tea. Why on earth would you substitute a perfectly acceptable loose leaf tea for a sub-standard variety! It was honestly the worst tea I have ever tasted and I simply couldn't drink it. The waitress brought more loose leaf tea for us to add to it to see if it improved the strength but to no avail. We were not approached to ask if that had remedied the situation. I ate my scone and left the tea. When asked if everything was okay at the till we explained and she replied that she hadn't been told it had changed, a bit odd that the staff are not made aware of what is going on. Anyway, I explained I couldn't drink the tea at all but the scone was lovely and we were then given the bill for scones and awful tea. Never in my life (and we eat out regularly) have I been asked to pay for something that was so horrible! We left and went to Booths cafe for a delicious pot of loose leaf tea. Needless to say we will not be visiting Farrers again.

Special tea/coffee house in the centre of Kendal. Even have a few tables and chairs on the pavement. This place serves wonderful tea and coffee, the staff are friendly and work hard. The only thing that puts me off is the stairs, not good for the old knees. x

Lovely old building- 200 years old. Had a good coffee and my daughter enjoyed an unusual tea- which she enjoyed. Had a few cakes- though a bit too sweet for me. Would go back again for the coffee and a less sweet option!

Called in for a quick coffee and some cake. Not just a coffee/tea shop but also have the opportunity to try the range of teas and coffees the company produce, clearly not all on one visit.

Expanding dad's horizons in Kendal we chose to eat at Farrers so we could sample the coffee and tea. Everything was delicious. The menu is not huge, but everything is well done and the service is quite speedy - even though we were warned that there'd be small delay, we didn't have to wait too long.

Whilst in Kendal we visited Farrers purely for the shop. Shop has an extensive range you can purchase and take home, yes a little pricey but you get what you pay for ... quality products. The reason for the review is more so for the staff who were very helpful and not intrusive. Great team with a warm welcome and knowledge. Next time we’ll stop in the coffee shop, we’d just had lunch so hence the reason why we didn’t.

On holiday in The Lakes and decided to visit Kendal for the day. Not knowing the place, asked a local police officer where was the best place to go for coffee. She recommended Farrers as it was her favourite place.

Called in for a coffee and light lunch. Tried a special blend Cafetière, as they sell many different blends which tasted great. Also tried a sandwich which was very tasty. All the staff were very helpful and chatty. Would certainly recommend visiting this establishment if you are ever in Kendal. I know we will certainly visit again.

Popped in here for a light lunch & it was amazing! I had the prawn & salmon salad which was delicious, generous portion size but lots of cucumber & I don’t like cucumber but as I didn’t mention this that’s my own fault! Wife had a J.Pot with tuna which was very nice but the star of the show was dessert! The most amazing Sticky Toffee Pudding, soooooooo delicious & a big portion & I had the white chocolate & cranberry brownie which was sooo gooey. We were just expecting a quick lunch & got so much more & ive not even mentioned the amazing range of tea & coffee too!!!

The building gleaming dark wood floors and staircases opening into separate rooms with large and small tables. Heavenly smell of fresh ground coffee which when the cafetière came was as good as the smell. The fruit scones were served warm - not my preference as it spoils the texture. It took a while for someone to take our order but then it was brought quickly and served with a smile. This is a little gem of a traditional coffee house and I hope it stays around for a long time to come.

Such a quaint old building that houses a delightful coffee and eating place, but most impressive apart from the wonderful range of coffees is the wonderful service, so polite and welcoming that they should get an award for service alone.

Visited here with my Dad today. Asked for a tea cake and then a scone both not on the menu anymore. I had a bagel with salmon and cream cheese paid over £8 and that was it no sides, no even a bit of salad - didn’t taste great. Dad ordered pancakes in the end 2 tiny pancakes on a dish - still hungry when we left. Not great service either. Disappointed!

Called in for a coffee and snack after our frequent walk along the bay and round back into Arnside. When this first opened I was a little wary as we are used to small intimate tea/coffee shops in Arnside. However this was our second visit and as we entered we were greeted by obviously the front of house guy “David”. Wow does this guy know how to do it Welcoming ,friendly, Northern (always a bonus). Had a lovely coffee and Hubby had a great crisp bacon bun. The vibe in this cafe/restaurant is great., modern but great service. We live quite locally and are encouraged to go in the evening now as well. In our opinion the best restaurants are always about the front of house and Crossfields has it right. Everyone in this place has a great view of our beautiful Morecambe bay.

Called here for a takeaway lunch, used them several times before. Service was disappointing to say the least. Not a please or thankyou from the ladies working in the shop - even when I pointed out they'd only charged me for 1 flat white! Previous reviews also highlight the fact that the staff are miserable, they respond but do nothing to address the concerns raised. Also, I would've thought that as u was the only customer in the shop on a very wet day would have been positive for them - obviously not! Not sure I'll return here.

Went in after I missed breakfast one morning and can't wait to go back! The staff at Mio Mondo were so nice and patient with me while I was choosing. I'm a picky eater so it was appreciated that I had time to choose, food came out piping hot and was so good! Their homemade cakes were delicious as well! 🍰
