Farm Cafe-A in Havering

The new owners are deluded and the food is awful at best. The cafe used to have an open inviting feel but has been cut in less than half and is now small & dinghy. The food is atrocious and the chef is clearly useless and frankly needs to learn how to cook. The 5 star reviews relate to the previous excellent owners and to the time food was wonderful & te restaurant invariably packed, under Donna & her husband. Massive loss to the community. Don’t go here unless you’re a mug.

Well what a disappointment. I’ve not been since last summer but promised my family good food. The cafe has been cut in half so far fewer seats but we didn’t have to wait for a table. I should have realised why. The omelette that I was looking forward to was overcooked. My salad was only a side. Half a tomato, two pieces of cucumber, a few pieces of pepper and old lettuce. I could have had chips or beans and wished I had. Coffee was far too strong. My family didn’t say much but we agreed that we should have gone elsewhere. We will next time. Shame as it used to be so good there.

This was my first visit under the new ownership and it will be my last! I ordered the home made steak pie with puff pastry, mixed vegetables and mash for £13 - the rest of the menu lacked anything tempting and vastly overpriced. The steak pie was tiny and barely 5-6 miniscule pieces of steak. The vegetables (carrots and broccoli) were tiny, overcooked and covered in a dark burnt herb of some sort. The mash was putrid and weirdly ploughed to make it look a decent portion size I guess and had a strange taste, that I couldn't actually discern. I was given a gravy boat, as if this was a bonus, but the gravy was lumpy & tasteless. The young waitress was nice, but she was eating chips each time she went back towards the kitchen, and chatting to her friends or family sat at another table, which was highly unprofessional. The atmosphere was like a family/friend haunt rather than a decent well run eatery. In hindsight, I wish I'd just gone to the chippy and ordered pie & chips for half the price and better value & taste. The previous owners would be shocked at the extremely poor quality offered by the new owners - they won't last long as the car park was empty and I'm sure the other customers who used this once smashing café/restaurant would be appalled and forego this low grade café.

Been using this Cafe for a few years now as a meeting place for old work mates. Was always excellent and nearly every table would be full, great food and attentive service with a smile. However its changed management earlier this year and its the overall experience as slipped, smaller portions for a greater price, the service is sometimes snails pace and the staff rarely circulate around the tables so its impossible to catch any ones eye to chase up drinks etc so you need to go up to the till area. Its seems a lot less busy than it used to be so I presume people have voted with their feet.

Food was ok. Service was ok menu was a bit boring Lasagna was a bit tasteless and our food came before our drinks nothing to rush back for in our opinion could be a lot more inviting

We had been looking forward to a nice lunch but sadly no-one came over to serve us for what seemed like ages so we walked out.

Had a lobster tall & prawn skewers! Out of this world! Unbelievably tasteful and tender! Best dish I’ve ever had at any restaurant! Huge thanks to the chef! Brilliant cook!

Great food and coffee, tried the new Frappuccino and it was amazing! All the staff were lovely and I’ll definitely be going back soon!

I’ve been here a while ago but now under new management, great atmosphere, great food and great service, the quality of the food is well worth the wait! I am a very happy customer! A lot better with the new management. I had the chicken skewers, the seasoning was perfect! Very impressed. Thank you all

I highly recommend this cafe . It’s no grease ball the food was amazing and freshly cooked. Staff was very polite with a great attitude. I stopped going here due to the previous owners and bad service and now I am happy to be back , the new owners Laura, Dan and there crew are such lovely people . I will be back very soon 👍🏻

First time back today since previous owners and couldn’t have asked for better service!! Yes there is a wait for food, but when the food is served to a high standard I am more than happy to wait. Had the Lasagna, Chips and Salad and was one of the best i have had. Staff are all friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. Restaurant was very clean and well laid out compared to before. Can’t wait to return. Well done to all!!

Tried today for first time due to recommendation! Very happy with the quality of the food well worth the wait! It’s all freshly made, quality taste and not stuck in the microwave. The kippers I had were top notch, very rare to come across ! I’ll be back more often, all staff were brilliant. Couldn’t be more of a happy customer, thank you. See you soon.

Went for Breakfast with friends to celebrate my Birthday (May 5th). The food was excellent. The service was fantastic. Even the weather was great. A big ‘Thank You! ‘ to the staff, they’re wonderful.

We arrived (3 adults) at 12.15 on Good Friday, we were seen by a waitress at 12.30 to order x2 sandwiches, X1 small fried breakfast and three hot drinks. Our drinks arrived at 12.45 which we drank waiting for our food. The food eventually arrived at 1.25, the sandwiches were fine but the small breakfast was burnt. The Black Pudding was burnt on both sides and tough to cut through, the toast was burnt, the sausage was overdone. The menu was impressive but the service was shocking and the food took far too long to arrive. Will not be going back.

Food is fine; although I’ve only been here three times and have only tried their full english breakfasts and omelettes. I’ve seen other people eating from the main items menu, and they seemed to be tucking in okay, so I’ve no doubt that’s okay too. It’s not a bad place to sit and eat, and the staff are friendly - but service can be a bit on the slow side with some reminders to service staff needed at times.

Absolutely fantastic, the food was delicious. Halibut in creamy crayfish sauce, chips and peas. Followed by apple crumble and custard. The prices are good, the only one thing I could find fault was it was a little bit chilly, we were sat near the door.

Went for a birthday lunch, around 15 people and the staff were very attentive. Great food, great atmosphere, great service, nothing too much. Food plentiful and value for money. Would highly recommend, and can’t wait to go back!!

stunning sunday lunch complete with yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and excellent veges. a good choice of meats and delicious gravy. one person had the chicken pie instead of sunday roast and said it was very good. nice choice of desserts. staff very friendly and helpful and service good.

Just love this place the menu is so extensive the staff are lovely but the food is amazing with a good GF range as well So popular at times you may have a longer wait but we go knowing it’s well worth it and it’s very keenly priced Their Sunday lunch is fantastic

Exuded to go somewhere different going by the good reviews, followed a couple in, showed to a table, 4 other groups/couples followed 10 minutes after being seated, 15 minutes later couple before and after had been asked their orders and drinks/food were already being brought out. 25 minutes later on going to the counter to ask if my order needed to be given here, I was then informed I was about to be seen…….? 15 minutes later we were served! Menu states Hash BROWNS Only one on the plate, and was overcharged for the coffee also. Quality of the food was very good, customer service very poor.

My wife and I decided to have an ad-hoc lunch and chose This cafe Have to say it was an excellent experience The cafe/restauarant was very busy but after a short wait for a table, we had a very good experience .

I find the staff here very helpful - and good humoured. Six of us sat down and the lady serving us went through the list of 'specials' ...only to be asked to repeat it! As to the food, yes, it is home-style - but well prepared with more than generous portions. I think the place has hit on a winner - providing the kind of dishes people enjoy in a friendly setting.

I have been past Farm Cafe-A on so many occasions but never ventured in which is a shame because this place is a hidden gem. The food is superb and so well priced, the staff are friendly and professional and the atmosphere is really friendly also. With so many cafes in the area it can be difficult to choose but this has to be one of the best. Farm Cafe-A has more of a restaurant feel but that is NOT a bad thing at all and what's even better is they allow dogs inside (as long as they abide by the house rules). A wonderful cafe just outside Upminster and just inside the boundary of the M25. I/We will be back.

So we had been recommended to try Cafe A and I had read some good reviews but when you try a place for the first time it would help if you weren’t completely ignored, Sunday morning a few tables were busy outside but still a few spaces, two ladies clearing the table, didn’t say hello and didn’t say we will be out shortly to take your order, I didn’t know, I presumed after sitting down looking at the menu, that I had to go inside to order as no one re-appeared, so I went inside waited by the till said ready to order, was told no go sit at the table, wait for order to be taken, we’ll we waited and waited not one member with a notepad came out to take our orders, so we just left we had been sat there for a good 20 minutes… I like to support local eateries…I am not important but I am a paying customer so I’ll eat elsewhere!

We have visited a few times and every time has been excellent. Lovely home cooked food, plenty of sandwich and wrap options. Great value for money as well. Very popular and rightly so. Definitely worth a visit.

Excellent, spacious cafe with good food, good portion sizes, friendly service. Just had the home-made Lasagne- excellent. Will be booking for the Carvery next. The Chef here really knows what he’s doing.

Excellent venue with a great atmosphere. The service is great & food is lovely. Plenty of choices from snacks to cooked dinners and is very reasonably priced. It's busy but that's because it's a great place for lunches. There is also plenty of parking.
