Smashing wee pub. I've been going there for over 20 years. As long as you're sound, you'll be fine. Neither the staff, nor customers will listen to nonsense. So if you're there for a beer, and a good natured laugh, it's great. Live music every Friday. Handy for trains, buses, and taxis. Can't complain. 😁👍

IGNORE EARLIER REVIEWS. NO REAL ALE FOR YEARS. Another victim of outdated Google search terms and old reviews. Pleasant old Victorian character and dog friendly but only of interest to lager drinkers. Didn't even have Guinness on our visit. I really wish places would maintain their Google profiles and info.

Love this pub. Unashamedly enjoying nights out in Kilmarnock since 1997. There are a few proper or traditional pubs left (this being one of them) which are perfect compared to the larger chain pubs. Great atmosphere, good chat from bar staff and locals and a decent selection of drinks. Juke Box and Dart Board a bonus. It is what you make it.

Terrible, drinks were taken off us- staff and customers gave us abuse. If I knew your names I'd have contacted the police, because you were all crowding around us trying to intimidate us- I hope you don't have a days luck, any of you because you're vile. As well as that, one of you (the one with the dreadful purple hair and not so easy to look at) walked up to us and grabbed our drinks our hands even though we were at the pub. You blew the full thing out of proportion, as if we were marching the streets you're a bunch of halfwits. Had a guy with half a beard (claiming to be 28) arguing with me and my partner about law and getting all flustered like an absolute imbecile (no surprise because he looked like the type), he left then came back for more arguments and then you're all standing in your corner trying to argue with us- vile people, most unwelcoming place in Killie and I hope you get put out of business real soon and none of you- customer or 'bartender' (looked like two 16 year olds and a woman -say that doubtfully- to me) don't have a days luck because you treated us like utter rubbish. Good riddance to you when you're put out of a pub and job.

Fanny by Gaslight is a local landmark. A great old Victorian 'proper old fashioned pub, with original features which hosts great live music gigs, events, charity days, open mic, battle of the band contests, theme nights and quizzes. Always a great atmosphere, the new manager has brought the toilets and facilities into the 21st century creating a fabulous venue for young and old. The food is fantastic, bringing a modern twist to old pub classics, everything is freshly prepared from scratch in house, the twice cooked chunky chips with truffle oil and fresh parmesan are outstanding! The menu changes with the seasons to ensure value for money and optimum freshness. The staff are a nice friendly bunch.

We go here regularly for the food, as we are not drinkers. It's been excellent every time, I wish I could make soup as they do, and it's proper food prepared fresh everytime. If you are like me and hate bones in fish, go for their breaded haddock with proper tattie chips, it's terrific and not a bone in sight. We even had our formal wedding meal here with our family, some of which live over 60 miles away, and have revisited since on their own! Tremendous. In our experience there is no difference in the quality or speed regardless of who is chef that day, contrary to other reviews.

The owner is a great character and a great chef and the pub is a traditional old Kilmarnock pub beautifully restored...demonstrated by his presentation of French style food every now and then. Pop up French restaurant is terrific. Steak Diane cooked at the table was very impressive. Wine to accompany was reasonably priced and of very good quality. not the 'usual' Shiraz or Merlot you find in pubs. Nice Cotes du Rhone was great with my steak. This is also a great pub with not only a good choice of gins but a choice of tonics too.

Good food when the young woman is cooking, hit and miss when it's the gent. Can be slow at times for take-away even when pre-ordering. Gent was in the kitchen today, order took an additional 20 mins over time I was told to pick up and even then I left with half of it due to a problem with the fryer plus macaroni was bland with a floury tasting sauce, edible only with salt and a lot of pepper added. Portions and price are good but I'd stick to soup and sandwich if you are in a rush.

Steak pie had a very tasty gravy with soft bits of meat, and the chips were chunky home made ones. So if your thinking about going I'd definitely recommend it as it really is nice pub food. Looking for good, wholesome, home-cooked fare? FBG is the place to go, especially on a Sunday when the carvery is the order of the day. From the moment we stepped through the door into this excellent pub/ restaurant we were made to feel like regular customers. Our server was Alana and she couldn't do enough to make our meal memorable. Laurie the owner and chef was a perfect host and his cheery manner ensured that we felt relaxed and perfectly at home. The carvery was faultless, with each joint of meat cooked to perfection. The portions are huge and although Laurie did stipulate that if we wanted more, we were just to go up, we had to decline. I would challenge anyone to take up his generous offer of second helpings. If you still have room, finish off with the cappuccino. It's excellent tooOur total bill was only £23.95 and this included a fine pint of Guinness and a medium sized Chardonnay.Superb value for money. Will we be back? We visited on Saturday before the rugby for lunch and what a great lunch we had! Atmosphere was fab and the service was faultless, my fillet steak was superb and for £7.50 with as much mashed potatoes and veg as we could muster between the 8 of us the value for money was unbelievable! The staff could not have been more helpful and attentive, can't believe I haven't eaten here before and will definitely return!

We visited The princes Cafe & Coffee Shop again today, five of us. I had the famed all day breakfast, friends had Chicken Tempura, Spicy Macaroni with chips. Everything was excellent, service & food. Cost us £44.00 for FIVE of us. Will be back next week for sure.

Took too long to take our order, whilst staff were standing about, but it was delivered quickly, the staff were friendly, and the food was good and very reasonably priced. We will be back.

Delicious starters followed by pink roast beef. Speedy staff. I think an open log fire would add to the ambiance, especially with cold weather coming up. Every country pub should have one!

Came here for a quick bite after doing some of the Burns Trail in Mauchline. With the social distancing in place, there's no sit in and the cafe only serve food from the front door. The menu is very much traditional British foods, so you'll not go wrong if that's what you're after. Even though the staff were only serving through the front door, they're still friendly and welcoming.I got myself a Jaffa Cake and a Latte. The former did indeed taste like a Jaffa Cake (biscuit), although it was a bit too sweet. The latte was decent. Not sure about all the 5 star ratings, but it was decent food and I give it an extra star because the prices here are very keen.
