Cotton Mill Cookhouse & Pub in East Ayrshire

Chicken served on a vegan curry, which taken away, the chicken just picked off and the dish held in the kitchen, the same meal was then re-served with the unwanted chicken picked off, after the other meal was finished. Clearly the same food as the parsley garnish was shrivelled up and sauce cooked onto the plate. Incredibly lazy and disrespectful. Really lazy and sloppy from the kitchen. The serving staff were nice, but the mistake was theirs and how they handled it wasn’t good enough. To top it all, they tried to charge me extra, for the chicken I didn’t order in the first place. I needed to ask for a duty manager and tell her explicitly to refund me. The staff should have been more proactive about rectifying their mistake.

The young guy that served us was brilliant, smiled ,chatty and very pleasant. Food was great

I ate here for breakfast and dinner over a period of 3 weeks whilst staying over for work. Every day, the food and service was excellent, so this review is based on not just one single visit where one bad experience could taint it for some, but every day here was consistently good. All of the staff were very friendly and professional, especially Wilma during the breakfast service. One of the servers at dinner (I can't remember his name), also informed me after I asked for the fish and chips, that it came skin on, which I wouldn't have liked and very grateful he told me this so I could order something else. The food always arrived quickly, it was hot and portions we're just right. One thing I also liked is they always asked if you suffered from allergies too, as not everywhere asks this! Will definitely stay and eat here again when travelling for work.

Good food, friendly staff, slow service.

Food was delightful bit service not very good. Sat for 45 minutes while waiters and waitresses passed our table with empty food plates, had to end up asking them for the kids puddings which we had already ordered so thumbs down for service.

Wouldn't recommend at all ,ordered the deal 10.99 two mains my wifes smothered chicken wasn't fresh upon her tasting it we sent it back offered another one which we declined for us then to get the bill with a cocktail we never ordered and charged full price for my burger in the deal upon querying this I was told if I don't leave the police will be called ha ha unbelievable they rob you and your supposed to keep quiet

Third time in a few months and every time the food was cold, last time complained and returned meal refusing another replacement, thought third time lucky but won't be back.

Just had a fantastic meal for the second night running. The food was delivered quickly and was hot and the steak was perfect. We were a large party and the servers Greg and Robyn were fantastic, super helpful and happy to help. Highly recommended.

Went for the two main courses for £10.99 and was very happy with our choices smothered chicken and fries double up for £1.99 it was delicious My wife chose the spicy chicken burger with fries and coleslaw she agreed it to was delicious can’t fault the meals here especially at these prices service Was great too waitress couldn’t be nicer will definitely return

Food was good though some dishes were small enough to be classed as child portion. Service was very slow, needing to request forgotten stuff.

No complaints other than the service we experienced. We were seated and attended to straight away. Ask for a drink order which we placed as soon as we sat down. Unfortunately it was around 20 mins to receive the drinks (4). The food order was not as slow as drinks but still much slower than should be. When finished our meal we again waited around 20 mins for table to be cleared. We were asked if we wanted to see dessert menu. The menus were handed out but the staff member was again missing for around 15 mins and when we did see him he seemed to be be doing very little. Not everyone wants to come out for a meal and wait excessive periods of time between courses etc. Should be check backs carried out on customers to make sure everything is satisfactory. To be honest we were not made to feel very welcome at all and I am sure this is not the result you guys are aiming for. As such we probably won't return.

Went for our wedding anniversary firstly our starters went to wrong table till the other customers said it wasn't there's then we ordered our mains both were wrong orders so I asked if that was another customers order to be told no it was ours and that is what was wrote down clearly it wasn't really poor customer service

Had used this restaurant in its previous guise as a Brewers Fayre and honestly seems to me that nothing has really changed. Standards are exactly the same as before and it is clearly aiming for maximum throughput of customers and a menu that is contributes to that objective. When we visited, it was fairly quiet and some areas were out of commission, being barricaded off with strategically placed chairs. Staff were few (perhaps the reason for curtailing the number of customers), however those who were in attendance were working fast, attentive and were very pleasant. Basic pub type menu was minus a few items (inevitably things we wanted) but ample alternatives. Something like Lasagne would, I have thought, been unlikely to run out but there you are. No starters for us but for mains, we opted for the 3 mini pies (beef& ale, minted lamb & chicken tikka) which came with a congealed but funnily quite tasty gravy, 1 x scampi, 1 x gammon steak and 1 x chicken & bacon. The last two were off a special 2 for £11 menu whereas the pies and Scampi were from the a la carte menu. We had 3 desserts and with soft drinks, were presented with a total bill of £63. The food was OK - you get what you pay for standard - and clearly the drinks were truly where the profit from our visit came from. 4 non alcoholic (mainly squash) cost over £12 - bit steep imo. Not great, but then, we were wanting to have a basic meal and not anything special which is exactly the target customer base for the Cotton Mill. Would I go again? Yes and I'll bet it won't have changed.

Had a three course meal, lovely meal, plenty on the plate, tasted delicious, plenty of choices on the menu.staff very attentive and lovely atmosphere.

Birthday dinner for my daughter in law. We often come here as it is ideal for my daughter who is in a wheelchair. As usual the food was delicious and the service quick with friendly servers. We will be back.

Was here as one of a party of seven. While six of the meals were really good the other one, a burger, was badly overcooked. A bit more attention to detail and it would have been 5 stars.

Slow service but once ordered food came fast, clean, tidied, freshly made, homemade chips. Would recommend. Irn Bru isn’t on the menu but they do have it in stock.

Stayed in premier inn next door and had evening meal and breakfast here on the meal deal option, bar staff and waiting staff very polite plenty of choice of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages, food choice basic but plenty of choice I can recommend the mixed grill. Bit slow sorting the final bill out but not really an issue, breakfast has plenty of choice from continental and cooked, the hot breakfast is cooked to order and very tasty.

Staff were attentive and very polite, they took my order promptly and were very friendly when doing so. The food arrived quickly which I was pleased about due to being away with work and having to set off in a hurry. I got exactly what I asked for and enjoyed the breakfast. The facilities were all clean and well laid out staff were always around to assist and accommodate.

Turned up at location and told to sit any where. Went to get coffee and the machine just gave out hot milk. I said to staff about no coffee and was told o well tired to get it working so will just turn off use the sachets. Waited about 20mins to get served the server served people that had just came in the door? Breckfast was not the best and wont be back. Herd the server moaning about people leaving food on there plates. Improvement needed.

Went here last night after hearing very good things about it to say I was disappointed is an understatement after waiting 10 mins a waitress arrived for drink order 15 mins later we had to shout for a waitress to take our food order this in its self was an ordeal the young man just was not interested at all after another wait food arrives at the table I requested fish pie I got fish chips & beans refused the order again ordered fish pie back comes another plate for me fish chips & peas this time again order was refused by this time my friend had to ask for her side of chips as this was not given along with main dish 3rd time lucky I’m thinking not for me again my dinner came to the table with peas once again it was refused by this time my friend had finished her food and I was just receiving mine I thought it would be worth the wait how wrong can you be barely warm and not very appetising full experience was awful to say the least would I recommend No will we return again that’s a Big No

Lovely interior, very modern and cosey. Great atmosphere, fab selection of coffee, tea, juice, baked goods and the cooked breakfast is so tasty, we'll presented and not oily at all. Holly was our server and she is a lovely girl with a very warm smile and is chatty and welcoming. Great wee brekkie spot.

Went here with family for an evening meal. Had lots of food items on 2 for £11, with an upgrade available with some dishes. Did have a problem with part of my meal, but this was rectified quickly.

First time review after semi regularly visiting over the last 6 months and I've found it rather easy to give five stars in all categories in consideration of the service received. The menu offers both plenty of options to suit the majority of tastes and good value for money. Re the value for money there are always deals on offer that are welcomed in the current economic climate too. My family, and I, have always found the staff to be attentive, professional, and polite. The environment is well considered as the tables are laid out to accommodate different sizes of groups without it feeling as if any one group is overlapping and intruding on any other.

Wilma welcomed me with a smile first thing in the morning and kindly served a perfect cooked breakfast. The restaurant was smart and clean and everything was well laid out, no mess. Highly recommended. These are good staff who know what they are doing!

Visited here recently with family. I ordered desert chocolate brownie and said couldn’t have the ice cream because of intolerance. Greg our waiter was so helpful and friendly and said he would get something else instead of ice cream. Had lots of lovely fruit with brownie which was delicious. If only all restaurants had someone like Greg who was so lovely and helpful. An asset to this restaurant.

We just had a brilliant meal! Two adults , three fussy kids and a baby and everybody was happy. The mixed grills were superb! Lovely waitresses and chef… they could not do enough for us. Lovely atmosphere. Well done!

Anything good about the Premiere Inn, Kilmarnock was overshadowed by the appalling service (actually lack of service) from the Cotton Mill Cookhouse + Pub next door, but still owned by Premiere Inn. The staff (when you can find them) are rude, uninterested and one woman...

First time in here since it changed from brewers fayre, we visited on a Sunday night, the service wasn't great, we waited ages for our order to be taken, the food was alright but not worth the price they charge. Portions were good but the food definitely nothing like brewers fayre. The chips were horrible, no tomato in the burger, etc. If I were to return I would only visit when the weekday offer is on, as its not worth full price. This is NOT good value for money!

The staff were friendly and helpful. Took our initial order quickly and the food came quickly too and was quite nice. However when clearing starters they took the used cutlery but didn't provide more for the main courses, we had to ask. We ordered, in the main, from the Boxing Day menu and enjoyed it(I found the roast potatoes very soft but no one else minded). Extra gravy was provided when we asked, which was nice. However it took some time for the dishes to be cleared and we had to attract someone's attention and were given the desserts menu. Dessert was good too. The disappointment came when I went to pay. I'd booked in large part because I know they have a 25% discount for Blue Light Card holders, but was told, when I produced mine, that it did not apply to the Boxing Day menu. Ouch. We would have booked closer to home if that had been clear. Shame, because everything else was fine.

Took the kids as part of a night out and we will never be back, we waited forever to be served despite being allocated a server, she was harassed and appeared anxious with no ability to communicate, the food was from the Xmas menu and was just thrown on the plate and churned out, it was y great either we gave up by the time it came to ordering a third course due to the length of time we had to wait. The whole experience was one of the worst we’ve ever experienced and we eat out regularly.

The staff let the side down. As another customer said to me tonight, the staff are more interested in chatting to the men drinking at the bar than checking on the diners in the restaurant. The whole thing is poor, from start to finish. We have stayed at the Kilmarnock Premier Inn several times but each time we use the the cotton Mill Cookhouse, it is worse than the time before. The food is the lowest level of acceptability and never is anything more. It was quiet in there tonight. There is no excuse for their lack of attention. There was a keen young lady who is very new there, if it hadn't been for her, we would have walked out. She saved the day and showed great potential my husband said and he has been a catering manager for over 30 years. We are not going back. Enough is enough. It will be Ayr from now on.

I enjoyed the food, wife didnt (very fussy) she complained that the mushrooms were out of a tin black pudding was soggy, I enjoyed the food although I done eat mushrooms.

So once again I find myself taking up temporary residence at a premier inn. They’re always consistent so the obvious choice. However the meal options often offered are not so consistent. In fact, up until now they’ve been pretty bloody awful! Chef and brewer establishments...

If you leave restaurant short staffed you will lose customers and deserve to do so . Poor employees that are on duty it's not their fault but they take brunt of it. Service wasn't great food was good but cheese burger served was cold. Would think twice about going back

Went here for my 60th on 01 10 2023 Food was lovley was 19 off us service bit slow but was for 19 staff were lovely only thing coffee is not very good and machine only does two at time but everything eles very good

My husband and I have been commjng here for months since we got married every Thursday for date day we always order the same thing, 2 starters and the loaded chicken and I have 2 cocktails, the service was always very very slow but we didn't mind because food was lovely and price was great £25 and was beautiful presented but we went today and they changed menu so there's no side salad or coslaw with the loaded chicken and the chicken was dry and chips was dry wasn't presented nicely and on horrible plates (not the normal plates) horrible cheap plates and price was £32 So paid more for less food ? We would of came here ever Thursday forever tbh but will have to find somewhere new because its not worth it now, and we drive from cumnock to come here
