Absolutely tremendous. Friendly welcome, great selection of drinks. Friendly atmosphere and a lovely terrace to sit on and enjoy the sun: Inside is so quirky, from the cooktoo clocks to the nixknaks hidden around.. a real gem!

I usually make a point of reviewing pubs via trip advisor as I like the fact that we, the public, have a medium in which we can rely on to chose which pubs we frequent. And with that in mind id recommend going some place else. I have been twice now and besides from the complete lack of atmosphere and drunk old men, I did not feel at all welcomed by the landlady or bar staff who look as though they’d rather not be there. I’ve been a pub manager myself and usually if you treat your bar staff well it shows in the way that they interact with customers. Makes me wonder how she treats them behind closed doors. They were miserable, blunt, uninviting and when one of them accidentally knocked my drink over i didn’t even get an apology, let alone another drink. Ultimately I realised that they were a lot nicer to the regulars, basically meaning if you are not quite 60 and not looking to spend hours drinking pint after pint, they will probably have no time for you. Much better places in Musswell Hill… Try village green

Very friendly staff. Cosy old fashioned pub, great decor. Chilled atmosphere. Decent prices considering its London. Came up for the Snooker at Ally Pally. Will definitely visit again.

No idea what these negative reviews are about. I've been frequenting this pub regularly for about 3 months now and Meg is one the most welcoming landlady's around. Great pub for watching football, playing pool, taking part in a quiz or just enjoying a relaxing pint.

From the outside, the place looks pretty lifeless. Sure, this place looks nice on the inside but that’s basically one of the only positives I can give this pub. As for the bad, the TV is too loud, and the food gave one of my closest friends’ food poisoning. On the contrary, they have a really good pool table, and the place does have a unique look to it, but it did little to make up for the rude and classless way in which the landlady spoke to me and my friends. She complained that five of us buying only one drink each in an hour wasn’t enough. I’ve been to pubs all over London and have never had a landlord/lady complain about a group of people paying for five drinks in the span of an hour. Because of how we were treated by her, me and my friends are never coming back here. Avoid this pub at all costs

Not the best looking pub from the outside and it’s a bit off the beaten track but well worth it. The interior looks like it hasn’t changed since 1975 - which in my view is a good thing. We went at about 6 on a Friday night and it was quite busy with a local community feel. Bar staff were friendly and the beers were good. Looking forward to my next visit!

I wish I hadn’t bothered. This is the most miserable, dreary pub I’ve ever been to, full of broken dirty trinkets from the world’s worst junk shop, indifferent beer and presided over by a rude and graceless landlady. Honestly, not even Weatherspoons would take this one over.

The trouble with this pub - apart from being bleakly soulless - is that the landlady and some of her staff are the rudest, pettiest and most inhospitable people in hospitality that I have ever met. I rarely leave negative reviews but have been so disgusted by my visit here, I felt compelled to leave this message. If there were an award for the worst landlady in the world, this one, Meg, would win no contest. Avoid at all costs.

We occasionally pop into the Famous Royal Oak for Silla's Sunday lunch. This is a first class roast with all the trimmings with options for vegetarians. The friendly reception we always get at this authentic local pub makes it a pleasure to visit.

Great Roast. Friendly staff, if you go, wrap up, there's an open fireplace not being used and heating is minimal. If the management pushed themselves a bit, sort out the fire, make a nice warm glow, but hey, don't seem bothered! I don't think the manager is setting a good example from what I've sèen

Rudest host/owner I've ever met in a London pub. Patronising me whilst pretending to apologise for full-blast TV volume piercing my ears. When I complained, asking to turn telly down, she fobbed me off saying "We are a big Arsenal-supporters pub, we need the volume to stay like this", even if as a punter I'd been sitting at this pub for over 3 hours with other 3 friends consuming beers like everyone else there. I pointed out we had the same rights to be comfortable in her pub as every other customer, but she simply kept patronising over the telly having to stay full-on loud.

Remember when the bleach meant that you didn’t have to step or sit in something from the previous days revelry - well for reasons I won’t speculate on the tradition lives on at this establishment. No craft beers, weird ornaments everywhere. Don’t get me wrong everyone seemed jolly pleasant. But I just couldn’t escape the bleach.

Just a lovely old pub, tucked away in the residential street, pool table, little bottles of prosecco for £5, and a large outside area. We visited late at night and it was a friendly atmosphere.

It's nice that an independent pub still exists! This is how pubs used to be, full of little trinkets and quirks with friendly staff. There's a quiz night on a Thursday, a pool table, and weekend summer BBQ's.

I love this pub. It's deceptive from the outside, it looks smaller and you have no idea about the brilliant interior with ships in bottles, tons of books and general nonsense that makes it cosy. The staff are friendly and there is a great jukebox.

I love this pub. It has such a surprising interior when you look at the outside. Inside, it is a proper traditional London pub, not some daft gastro place. If you want to have a few beers and a chat with a friend, watch football, rugby or other live sporting fixture (with beer and a friend), or generally chill out and read the paper, I cannot think of a better place. The staff are really friendly, there is a good selection of beers, which is well kept.

I visited this pub whilst on holiday in London. It had London Pride and Bombadier - two of the best beers in the world. The food was adequate- but what made this pub was the many screens showing football, rugby or cricket. A great selection. Most of the people there got on, regardless of whom they supported; very friendly. Sitting inside or out was divided 50/50.

This is a great pub to relax away from the hustle and bustle of Muswell Hill. Fantastic location for live sports with everything shown on a number of screens and even outdoor screens in use during the summer. The landlord is very friendly and makes all the punters welcome. Good selection of beers on tap.Not really the sort of pub you would go for food however, and they only have some basic pub snacks and limited menu.

I came here for a Sunday roast on the recommendation of one of my friends - but the roast was probably the worst I've had since I was at school! We both had roast lamb which was fatty, tough and rather tasteless. Extremely disappointing and I won't be visiting again. The outside area at the back is quite pleasant.
