First time here after the refurb excellent chinese meal prawn ginger spring onions with noodles, great staff will definitely use again very clean and bright.

Been three times now. Each time, queued, ignored, regulars seem to get acknowledged and served before others. No eye contact, feel like an inconvenience. Such a shame as it should not seem like a chore. Won’t go again.

Called for deluvery order at 6.30pm told they where very busy it would be 1hr. So said ok that's fine 2hrs still waiting 2•1/2hrs still no delivery so rang was told a lady was delivering now that was 8.50pm its now 9.45pm still no food delivered. Rang back to the chippy again was told sorry we haven't got an order for you then she said are you sure you are ringing the right chippy YES SO AT 9.45 AFTER WAITING 3HOURS 45MINS NO FOOD NO APOLIGY ... NOT GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Was very disappointed with the fish and chips, but the su-mai was tasty. My friend had chips, rice and curry and she said that was lovely as was the chicken fried rice

roughest salt an pepper chicken iv had in my life breading was stale like it was left overs and the chicken inside was chewy as and not even done properly the portions aswel are snide , this place will never see doe of mine again first and last.

Waited over 1 and half hours for food. This is disgusting. Food turned up cold. Tried to ring the shop to complain they don’t answer their phones. Avoid this place go elsewhere.

Not the worst but not the best either. Had quite a few meals here. When you get chips n gravy/chips and sweet and sour there is never enough sauce to cover your chips even when you ask for plenty of sauce there isn't enough to cover them or you get told no you have to buy a carton of sauce extra

I had my first meal from the Gold Star Tuesday night as I do not live in the area but WOW I will be making the trip there going forward. I had a chicken satay. It was the best one I have had in a long time!!

Think they have a new chef because the food is consistently lovely . The chicken Shenzuan is spicy and the sauce is not a thick gloopy msg type if sauce. Prices have gone up but if the foods nice you dont mind. The noodles used are the thin vermicelli type and I'd prefer the thicker egg noodles . Edit months later: Tried the chicken and sweetcorn soup and it was very watery and not much taste but the hot and sour soup was smokey tasty with enough meat and sourness and not too sweet. But very concentrated in flavour so added a bit of water to water it down. Lovely with prawn crackers. The black bean beef was tasty as well and that was a bit concentrated as well so added bit of water to even out the flavours. Would go back They have a new chef so give it a try if you haven't been for a while.

The women on the phone who we ordered are food off was ignorant very disrespectful spoke to us like we was a piece of sh*t on the floor food was 10/10 services was -10/10 wouldn’t recommend phoning up for food she wanted me off the phone as soon as she answered

We love this chippy we travel from princess drive to go here. However we just got 2 pie dinners, but when I got home and cut open the pies, they were both black in side. The meat is grey and burnt. I'm thinking they have been under the lamp for a few days. Put a horrible burn taste on the reat of the meal. Gutted we had to throw away the two meals. Staff was lovely though

Went in last night couldn't be bothered cooking. Ordered Chinese meals for us and burger and chips for the kids. Everything was fresh and tasty, delicious. Will be back soon, try the fish next time that looked great. Thanks

We've just been ignored for 20 mins after ordering a kebab. Numerous people came and went whist my husband waited. When it was eventually started the the man was spluttering spit all over it whist asking what sauces I wanted. That was enough for me. Been going here for years but this horrendous service was the last time.

Just been in for a fresh fish for my dinner place was empty asked for fish girl put fish in paper I asked was it crispy fresh she said no and gave me the other fish out of the rack just started eating it . It was sloppy and cold and soggy never again went right into bin 😡

Been using this chippy for Chinese meals since I moved to the area and it’s been spot on , very efficient and lovely meals ,,,, staff and owner always very pleasant every time I’ve been in ,,,,,, had to write this review as the bad ones seem bizarre to me ,,,, this chippy is very popular and wouldn’t be like that if these reviews was true .

This place is a dive avoid at all costs. The Staff are arrogant and ignorant they need to remember manners cost nothing. Slow service and awful over priced food.

Been under new management for ages, just been fully refurbished to a very high standard. Danny and his Mrs are doing a boss job with this chippy. The food is fresh and of a high quality that you won’t find anywhere else. Get yourself down there you will see for yourself how nice it is! Miles better than anywhere else out there!

went to the gold star tonight not the usual chippy we go to, chips were cold and dry awful when girl was serving she put her fingers in them to pick a black one out not very hygienic will not be going there again they went straight in the bin after we tasted them.

As above - TERRIBLE! Was really hungers after a massive drive, got press ganged into ordering something by a rottweiler and staired at by a faux door mush! Basically, if you don't want customers after 20:00 close the f'in doors - a smile don't cost a thing

Bought 2 fish and 1 portion of chips. At a cost of £14 I would have expected top standard , but sadly , thats not what I got. The food was look-warm at best and the batter was a long way from crisp. I’ve used this chippy for lots of years across 3 owners but will now draw visits here to an end.

Ad hoc visit for a large fish and chips when I got home the fish was small no bigger than a Birds Eye cod or Youngs serving. Was literally ate in seconds. The chips were a very large portion and a bit too meh. Just eating mash potato. £8.50 I thought was steep at first. Now it feels like I've been had. (One week ago 1st July)

Just spent nearly £20 on 3 sausages 1 chips and 2 fried rice and a curry lovely girls but far tol pricey after a couple of pints unfortunately won’t be returning

Unfortunately I’m writing this as I was completely let down . I’m a fan of this chippy & have left good reviews before now however tonight, my order was wrong items missing, chips pale undercooked & beef was so chewy I think I’d still be chewing it next week if I decided to carry on eating it ☹️

I have cooked a lot of Oriental food in the past and have to say the spicy Banquet we had was absolutely out of this world.Couldn't fault anything,which is a first from me.The salt n pepper ribs were to die for.Would highly recommend and will be back soon.Apparently this Huyton Gold star has had new owners/management since early 2020.10 Gold Stars from us.

since this chippy was taken over its QUALITY in all ways has improved immensely. staff are FRIENDLY , the shop is VERY CLEAN and the food is CONSISTENTLY lovely which i cannot say about many places! .iv never waited more than 20 minutes on there busiest days to pick up my telephone order and i think thats very good for a chippy . I dnt think the pics on trip adviser do the food justice and il take a pic of my next order and post it. beef black pepper is the best iv tasted in over ten years truly is DELICIOUS. iv not been disappointed with any meal ive tried yet ! Called in out of convenience as we were all getting home late. It’s not my usual chippy but has been ‘ok’ in the past so no problem in a change. Sorry I didn’t go to my usual, however. Staff are pleasant but the food was awful. Couldn’t tell the difference between the size of the large and small fish - also very greasy. Chips - a bold statement - the worst I’ve ever had. I thought it strange when a woman in the queue asked for a portion of chips that were well-done, I’ve never heard that before, but I can understand why. The ‘normal’ chips are extremely pale and taste of cardboard. No amount of salt when I got home could improve them. The curry was bland so also had no impact on improving the taste. I’m not the type to leave food on my plate so I finished - I had to resort to adding ketchup - but it was hard work. The salt and pepper chicken is certainly nothing to write home about - dry with a few raw onions. I know the Gold Star has changed ownership over the years and it used to be half decent but I will be giving it a miss. It’s in a prime location and could make a name for itself for the right reasons. Start by getting the basics right - fish and chips.

We recently visited the Gold Star and ordered a mixture of Chinese food and fish and chips. The food was such good quality, in particular the salt and pepper fish! Great service and great food, will definitely be returning!

Dreadful steamed chicken in a box for me to put in the pitta bread myself phoned to complain as it looked more like a Chinese meal phoned to complain delivered another chicken kebab this time in pitta bread which was soaking wet due to the steam off the chicken straight in the bin awful surely a kebab should be grilled

The service and food here have really went downhillIn the last six months. The staff are incompetent, with no customer service skills amongst them. We ordered a sweet noodle box the woman just walked away without taking the rest of our order when we pointed This out to her she huffed we gave her the rest of our order. Basic stuff chips, burger, spring rolls. She got the order wrong three times, she slammed a burger in a bun without asking if we wanted salad, sauce etc when we asked for salad she huffed. We waited 20-25 minutes on a Sunday evening for chips, noodles and a burger the spring rolls sadly weren’t out through like requested and all we got was ‘well if you want them it’s going to be an extra 15 minutes’ it was a utter shambles. When we got the food home the chips were soggy and the noodles were ridiculously salty. We previously have loved the golden star but we won’t be back the service was horrendous and the food was bad... AVOID

Just ordered a special oyster from here and there was no taste to it. It was like water. The chips, fried rice and bbq sauce what I got for my son was nice but I won’t get a meal from here again. I am disappointed as last time I got a meal from here it was nice

My now elderly mum got too many chips delivered to her home she paid for with no refund given after she mentioned it and one 'lot' of chips had to be thrown away as a result!

Llamado a comprar cuatro comidas para una familia adulta. Arroz, papas fritas, pescado y un pastel de pescado. No sé por dónde empezar, excepto para decir que todos estamos enfermos. El arroz estaba pegado como si hubiera sido calentado. El pescado estaba empapado, flácido y sin sabor. Chips tan empapados que no pudimos comerlos. El pastel de pescado simplemente yuk. Pagué mucho de mi dinero duramente ganado por esto, fue una pérdida total de dinero. Tengo que decir que fue horrible! NUNCA NUNCA nuestra familia irá allí de nuevo ni se lo recomendaríamos a nadie.

Great fish and value for money all the staff very polite and helpful, also had a banquet, the food is fresh, very well prepared and portion sizes are excellent, would recommend a trip to this place day or night, they even deliver

Went there on a Friday & it was lined up out the door. Chips were delicious & it was really busy so they were hot out of the fryer. Fish cooked fresh too. They seemed to have a fairly extensive menu & it all smelled good.

Crap chips, they where obviously warm ups from lunchtime and where inedible. Just through them away after tasting couple. Tasted like chips you would microwave from a takeaway. Won’t be going to this dump again. Shame because it used to be pretty ok.

Used to be a very good chippy but now very average and far more expensive than other local outlets. The one opposite the new leisure center in Longview is much better and far cheaper.

Went here years ago every weekend after the pubs closed, was the best chippy then and have been back recently and it is still lovely

Been there a few times now.First time, I asked for a can of coke after my order and the guy on the fryer started shouting "11.40, 11.40!"I asked what he meant, "Your order, 11.40. I was £11.40, she gave you the correct change" to which I replied "I asked for a can of coke"Thought I'd give them a go a second time, ordered a chicken kebab with lettuce, onion and mayo..received some weird funk mashup of a fried chicken breast with big clumps of onion and a spattering of mayo...oh and a load of mushrooms, which I'm allergic to.Never again.

Great food could not fault anything, prices are great & staff very polite too. 100% go back soon. Highly recommend the omelettes very very juicy. Fish is also best around.

We were staying in the Premier Inn and wanted to try food to have in the room. We couldn't fault it. My wife had lovely fish and chips and I enjoyed my sweet and sour chicken. Definitely recommend it.

Went here for my tea. They have bits of kids serving you and waited forever to get served. Got my tea home and there was a large hair in it. Why can't the cooks wear hair nets. Won't be going back

I've been using this place for more years than I can remember. It's a family run chip shop and all the staff are friendly. There is a large English and Chinese menu but for me they do the best cod & chips in the area.They also have a delivery and phone order service. Highly recommended.

Ewwwww! Is what I want to say but where do I start. You wait forever to get your food and when it comes it's is disgusting. I got sweet and sour chicken with rice. The rice was hard the pre frozen chicken was under cooked and it is a miserable poor excuse for a dinner!!!!!
