Food a bit disappointing for the price paid. Soup was flavoured dish water, bread stale and price paid the quality is shocking. Fish and chips quality was better but battered fish was swimming in grease. This is normally our go to restaurant for a special night out but quality has dipped and will be rethinking where we dine out in Lanark in future. This is our 2nd meal here since January 2024 and the 1st meal was also disappointing - chilli served as a garnish on top of main meal when this is not on the menu description of food chosen!!!

Het hotel had iets heel ongezelligs. Kamers waren een beetje kil, ramen veel te hoog wardoor je een gevangenisgevoel kreeg. Restaurant en bar lukten ook maar niet om gezellige plekjen te zijn. Diner was ok. Ontbijt was slecht. De zalm die ik bij mijn roerei kreeg was helemaal grauw en donker uitgeslagen. Bij de koude gerechten enkel zoetwaren, geen hartig beleg.

I decided to try the hotel's bar lunch as it's open to non-residents as an alternative to the Visitor Centre café. The fixed-price Light lunch was very nice - you get a smallish bowl of hot soup, a generous round of freshly made sandwiches, from a reasonable choice, with side salad and something sweet to finish. On my visit this was two triangles of peppermint slice; coffee is extra and it came to around £16 in total from memory. All the staff were pleasant to speak to and helpful to diners, I noted that 'ladies who lunch' like this venue as they also do afternoon teas with finger sandwiches etc. Décor is pleasant and there's free WiFi. My one observation is that it took a tad longer than I expected to be served food after placing my order although the coffee was quick. If you're pressed for time, point that out to the staff in advance. I'd certainly be happy to go back.

The worst service I have ever seen! We had ordered a cola, hot chocolate, soup and egg mayo sandwich, very simple, nothing complicated and quick and easy to make. We were the only people in when we first got there. Waited well over an hour for our food, soup arrived lookwarm, no apology for the wait or any explanation on what took so long to make a simple sandwich and warm some soup. Terrible service!! While still waiting for our food the place started to get a bit busier, a few couples had up and left because the time it took and unhelpfulness of the staff with finding out what food their baby could eat with their baby's allergies. Once we had finally received our food we were the only ones with any sort of food in the place, after over an hour of waiting! When we had eaten and were leaving there was still no sign of any one else's food. Worst service I've ever experienced, would not recommend and will never be back. The cafe in the mill is excellent and I'd definitely recommend going there instead

Four of us enjoyed a good evening meal here, the staff were very efficient, friendly and attentive. We ordered 3 steak and haggis pies served with chive mash, carrots, green beans and broccoli. The pies were very tasty and the vegetables nicely cooked. A child’s burger and chips was the fourth choice, this was a good portion and a quality burger. Desserts were 2 New Lanark mess with ice cream cream meringue and fruit, a rhubarb tart and chocolate ice cream. These were tasty and the portions decent. We are happy to recommend any people visiting the area to eat out here. The setting is very attractive in a former mill building right by the side of the River Clyde in the World Heritage site.

Very nice dining room, very comfortable, the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was well presented but the beef in the pie was slightly undercooked and the vegetables were not hot. I found that I had a couple of different options in this restaurant which is part of the hotel at New Lanark. Being both vegetarian and gluten free I often struggle with restaurant food and usually have just one option so it was nice to have more than one available. Staff were knowledgeable about gluten free food and helped me to choose a suitable meal option. I don't think gf options were marked on the menu but I could be wrong. Either way they were able to accommodate me. Prices weren't too bad, and you get 15% off if you show your key if you're staying at the hostel, which is a nice touch! Food was very tasty and I didn't have to wait too long.

We arrived to find afternoon tea was served in the bar, which frankly lacks ambience. Despite booking there was no reserved table so we waited while one was cleared. The level of staffing was low. The person who served us did not offer us a choice of teas and we waited 25minutes after arriving for our food to be delivered. While we were there we also observed other customers waiting long periods for food which made me question whether there were enough staff in the kitchen. Whilst the food was great the experience of afternoon tea was somewhat lacking.

Stayed in watercottage one weekend of 15th June 2018 as part of a wedding party. The cottages are in a stunning location with amazing views and large patio areas. Unfortunately it rained most of the weekend so we're unable to enjoy the patio area as much as we could have. The cottage is very spacious with a living area, bathroom and kitchen upstairs and two large bedrooms downstairs. It was all very clean however decor is slightly dated and I lost count of how many spiders i seen (dead and alive) The mobile reception was non existent and Wi-Fi is not available in the cottage which was about the only really negative thing I can say. It is a really beautiful place to stay with friendly staff. My friends wedding was wonderful, thanks to the careful organisation of the staff, making sure it all went to plan. Would stay again!

Hotel was set up for a wedding, no problem, reception ushered us upstairs to a lovely restaurant which was quite busy with diners and patrons having afternoon tea. Staff were very nice and helpful, well presented and obviously well up to speed. Food was lovely. I opted for Cumberland sausage, mash and seasonal veg, my partner had the fish and chips with peas and tartare sauce. So nice to have a lunch in such opulent surroundings. Our table overlooked the baby grand piano, pianist sat down and played, for the wedding of course, a wee added bonus for us. Price wise it's not over the top. Will go again

I visited the restaurant ( bar) for lunch today after a pleasant time in the sensory room with my two small children, my sister and her son. I rarely write a bad review and always try to see the positives but I was very disappointed indeed.Even just on entering the small bar area i could tell we were not very welcome, the lady serving us didn't help with highchairs / tell us specials or welcome us. I think the fact we had young children was off putting to the staff and other customers alike even although i took my three year old a walk to keep her quiet while we waited on food and she was really as good as gold. I placed my order ( the menu was somewhat confusing) and went for the workmans platter.. Small bowl of soup a sandwich and the smallest 'treat. ' you could imagine. For £9 each.( massively overpriced ). I ordered pizza and chips for my toddler ( she hates generic 'kids food menus' and this was the best of a bad bunch and basically the only thing she would eat) ... We had a long wait and then the server appeared with cheesy pasta?? I said i didn't order that and she actually argued with me! I don't have a speech impediment and i can communicate clearly I dont have a strong accent and the background noise was not loud! I have no idea why she thought i had said cheesy pasta instead! Anyway another long wait later with a hungry toddler only to receive the saltiest chips ive ever tasted.. Probably an attempt at being some pretentious form of chip!;)!!! She couldn't eat them and we BOTH came away hungry. With the server not even saying goodbye...I will Not be back and warn any diners with children to steer clear!

The sandwiches, scones and cake were very good, however portions a lot smaller than on a previous visit some time ago. We had quite a while to wait for the food to arrive after we chose out sandwich fillings, but this was the only downside, the food was very nice, and extra tea and coffee when required. This was an unplanned stop as we were visiting the New Lanark Heritage Site and discovered the hotel and a Sunday Afternoon Tea Special for £12.95 so decided to try it. The restaurant is located by climbing a stairway in the middle of the reception area and is a large, modern, bright open space. We were seated at a table for two near the top of the stairway with a good view of the restaurant. We ordered the special with some tap water for the table. The special consists of either soup which was white onion on the day or a chicken Caesar salad, the normal afternoon tea stack with sandwiches, cakes and scones, tea or coffee and a small portion of their award winning ice-cream to finish. The soup tasted lovely but had so much stalk in it I nearly left it,I still don't know what the stalks were but likened it to a hard clump of hair which I had to pick out after each mouthful and noticed other diners doing the same. The rest of the tea was good especially the pink champagne ice-cream which was delicious and a huge pot of coffee each. The waiting staff were nice but the service was shocking as there was a very noisy 40th birthday lunch of about 20 people and a rush of diners which made everyone think the rain had started again! We got served the soup then waited about 25 mins after the plates were cleared for the afternoon tea, another 10 for our coffee. We gave up after another long wait for the ice-cream and actually asked for it with the bill too. We were escorted downstairs to reception by a staff member to settle our bill and had a nice conversation about the Falls of Clyde. Overall not the best day but I think I would return if visiting again but hopefully it won't be as busy and I'll avoid the soup

Comfortable and often quiet lounge bar situated on the ground floor within the hotel overlooking the River Clyde. There is a separate restaurant on site up on the first floor above the reception if you’re looking for something with a little more style. There isn’t a huge menu in the bar but it includes sandwiches, snacks or full meals. Service is usually provided by the bar staff in a friendly and professional manner in our experience. We had lunch which consisted of Steak & Ale Pie (£10.95), Penne Pasta Napoli (£8.95), Sticky Toffee Pudding x2 (£11.00), two glasses of wine and a couple of coffees. Both main courses were warm rather than hot so perhaps there was a delay in transfer from the kitchens above. The pie was served with champ potatoes (mash & spring onions) together with vegetables and the penne with garlic bread and salad. Overall both meals were enjoyable. The Sticky Toffee Pudding came along with butterscotch sauce and vanilla icecream and was a nice way to finish off lunch. We’re members of the Health Club at the hotel so our meal was discounted from the above prices by 15% to just under £40 which we thought was reasonable value for the quality of food and surroundings.

The bar was very comfortable and clean, staff were very friendly and helpful. BUT - the food was awful! We were 4 adults and 2 children and the only thing that was hot, out of all our meals, was the Heinz tomato soup which the children had for starters. Two steak pies had to be sent back because they were cold - the veg and potatoes were actually cold to the touch! The vegetable lasagne looked hot, but when I cut into it I discovered that it was only hot on the outside and cold in the middle. I was too embarrassed to send anything else back. The burger that one of the children had was dried up, cold, and almost burned black. We didn't even have to mention it to the waiter, he could see for himself and said he would take it away! Not sure if the kitchen is a long way from the bar, which results in the food being cold by the time it is served in the bar. Very disappointing!

The bar was refurnished a year ago is much more attractive for dining. However, the lunch was disappointing as my previous experience in the hotel dining room during a weekend visit about 4 years ago had been very good. The melon starter was fine but my main course of salmon was a bit uninspiring - the carrots, turnips and potatoes were overcooked and not terribly hot. They seemed initially understaffed for the Sunday before Christmas and our cocktails before the meal were slow in arriving. We asked for some shortbread with the coffee and 2 minute rounds arrived on a plate - it looked ridiculous. As this is a cooperative venture I think they need to pull up their socks in terms of food quality and staff training although they were trying.

Loved the hotel , well run , great area , food excellent , rooms large , shower great , good for disabled / wheelchair guests It's right next to the river Clyde , though at the time there had been little or no rain for a while so river looking a bit sad Seemed well managed , staff very helpful , the wedding was excellent , the ceremony was held about 150 yards away , had a great 2 day stay , thanks to all the staff ,

The food was truly magical, certainly worthy of the 10th wedding anniversay celebrations that we were enjoying.

Nice staff and lovely setting. Food was decent overall but nothing special. Portion sizes could definitely be better considering the prices, which are towards the steep end of the spectrum considering what they are serving is pretty standard pub grub in a 3 star hotel.

My wife booked a Sunday Lunch for after our visit to the Village and a walk to the falls. There seemed to be a pre-mix up with the booking as my wife had been informed that the Sunday Lunch was no longer in the restuarant and had been moved to the bar which was fine.Upon arriving, we were told that there was no Sunday Lunch and that it had been changed to an afternoon tea (how they are like-for-like I don't quite know). The guy at the bar then phoned the restaurant to check if there was a Sunday Lunch. To be fair to the bar, it seemed like he was being kept out of the loop with it all. We were then told in fact that there was a Sunday Lunch.... but it was only roast pork and no other option. So we decided to cancel the booking. Fair play to the guy at the bar, he was trying to squeeze us in as we were a bit early. The place did seem very nice and it was a shame it never worked out. Maybe an improvement in communication would be beneficial in the future. If we were in the area again I would give it a second chance.

What to say...This bar is part of a nice hotel set in a beautiful valley, right on the river Clyde. The bar's well furnished, clean and has plenty of seating options. There's a good range of single malts and blends behind the bar, which the barman will happily allow you to sample first.

Vi åt middag här en kväll och det var en riktigt bra middag. Kycklingen jag åt var perfekt tillredd. Dessvärre beställde jag med polenta och det blir ju väldigt torrt. Vi åt även frukost här och den var helt okej.

We recently had lunch here after a long walk up to Lanark and back (the latter in pouring rain along the River Clyde). The staff were friendly and helpful (including assistance with my wife's dairy intolerance). They initially invited us to sit in the adjacent hotel lounge for a few minutes while they cleaned a newly-vacated table - and remembered that we were there. As, even at 2 pm the bar was still busy (in large part with a soon to depart post wedding party), we in turn invited an older couple who had arrived after us to share our four-place table.Over the not overlong wait for, and consumption of, our very good sandwiches (and their similarly good fish & chips) we had a long and wide-ranging conversation - discovering some shared background and many shared interests along the way.The bar is both comfortable and not too big, so the noise of many happy customers never becomes overpowering and certainly allowed our conversation to flow. We have been here before and will happily return again.

Excellent chips - would love to find to how they do them! And the soup of the day (carrot and orange) and ice cream were delicious - vouched for by my daughter and me.

Not sure if this is exactly the restaurant where we had dinner, but started off in the bar for sure, and were then moved to larger dining room, both of which had great atmosphere. The service in both places was excellent, as well.We had an excellent dinner of lamb cutlets, soup, and ice cream for dessert. Would definitely recommend dining here as part of your visit to New Lanark.

Popped in for the Sunday cream team, the spread was very good and the tea was very nice as it was Brodie's of Edinburgh. A very good price and served at the table by very nice and polite staff - a tribute to the hotel.

Great little bar for drinks and bar food. Good service and reasonably priced. No other option in the area unless you get a taxi to Lanark or walk up the hill.

Despite being local to The Lee Burn, I'd never been before, until it was recommended to me by a couple of friends, so I thought I'd pop in on the route home from work for a quick pint. The Lee Burn has a pleasantly cosy and relaxing atmosphere and the staff are incredibly welcoming and expertly balance friendliness and professionalism, which other places in the area could take notes from The Lee Burn. Honesty can't fault it for where it is! Even though I'd only popped in, I definitely wanted to stay longer, which is probably the best compliment I can give. I'm usually the first one to want to go home and be in my safe space, but The Lee Burn is just that relaxing! Will be back in the near future :)

Staff are either ignorant or incompetent or both. having dined here before a few times my wife and I stopped in for lunch as walk-ins. I entered and asked for a table for 2, the lady behind the bar made a show of the checking availability on the iPad, many tables were reserved so we guessed that we might be unlucky. "Sorry, we have nothing available", "okay no problem" Her colleague then, right in front of me picked up the bookings iPad and addressed the couple behind me, who also didn't have a reservation. "Oh, you're in luck, we have one table left". As i said a mix of ignorance and incompetence We won't be returning!
