We passed this pub last year in the middle of spring and always threatened to visit. We finally got round to it and we are glad we did. The pub itself is your archetype pub in the countryside. It has a rustic charm but saying this it does require some TLC. We booked a table in advance and in warmer weather I’d recommend this as I suspect it can get busy. On arrival we was greeted by a lovely staff member but bless her she seemed rushed off her feet. Not only was she serving drinks but taking food orders, waitressing and clearing away. I only hope she gets help when it’s busy. On to the food. We had the fish and chips and the hamburger. The latter came with chips, bacon and cheese. The fish came with peas. The bacon on the burger wasn’t to my liking as I prefer streaky bacon well done. When I saw the burger my heart stopped as I thought it was going to be one straight out of the freezer. I was wrong. It was juicy and very tasty and I enjoyed every mouthful. The chips weren’t great and I’m guessing they were frozen. They need improving. The bar is well stocked and you’ll be in heaven if you like your gin! Overall it was a nice meal in front of a roaring fire but please fix the chips, tidy up the pub and get another staff member to help the young lady out 😀

We visited here only yesterday. From the moment we entered the staff were welcoming and very accommodating. The food was divined. My son is a transplant patient and they couldn’t do enough to ensure that everything was ok for him. If you’ve been through similar you’ll know the importance of this! We live in Nottinghamshire but will certainly be returning soon. To all at The Eyres Arms, with this much attention to detail you have the potential to thrive. Booked for New Year. Popped in two days before to check as landlord very slow to answer calls messages or respond, we spoke direct with landlord who assured us all was okay and it would be a good night. Turned up tonight all cancelled. Landlord and Lady gone, left Jody and chef Al to deal with aftermath. Jody and Al absolutely brilliant, got us booked into somewhere else offered to sort taxi etc. Our new year eve ruined by landlord. If asked for my advice I would say drop in but do not book as landlord will let you down.

Had booked in a while ago for New years eve. Went in a couple of days ago to check booking. He said they had a NYE menu and loads booked in. Had taxi booked for 0120. Turned up tonight. Hardly anyone there. No tables made up or anything. Bar staff, jody, really helpful and apologetic. Said no NYE menu and landlord not there. Also pub closing at 11 and noone else coming!! When said taxi at 0120 she offered to take us home. Chef Al came and apologised and booked us in to another pub. Fab service from jody and Al. But appalling from landlord. Really disappointing evening

After a visit to Chatsworth House today we were looking for somewhere to eat Sunday lunch. This was our first visit to the Old Eyres and it didn’t dissapoint. We were greeted promptly by the friendly owners who showed us to the dog friendly area and given menus. We both chose the roast beef roast dinner the beef was melt in the mouth and accompanied by 7 different vegetables all cooked perfectly along with mash potato, roast potatoes, a huge homemade Yorkshire pudding and lashings of gravy, of which I asked for an extra jug which was brought immediately. The bar area is dog friendly but there is a separate restaurant area if preferred. The pub is cosy and friendly and when talking with the owners they mentioned that they were looking at carrying out some refurbishments. If we were in the area again would definitely eat here again

We ate here a few days ago and couldn't believe how much they charged us for drinks. £9.60 for a 175ml red wine and half a pint of lager !! The food was fine, but also quite pricey, £13 for Sunday roast. When we arrived there were only 2 other couples, but they left before our food arrived and then the place was empty. We felt as if we were eating in a doctor's waiting room - absolutely no atmosphere ! This was an evening during the Chatsworth show weekend - from past experience most pubs are heaving then ! We have dined at this pub in previous years but it has new owners this year. We won't be visiting again, don't like to be ripped off by London prices - in a village inn - in Derbyshire !!

We have been for lunch today. This is the first time we have visited under the new owners. What an uplifting experience we had. We ate from the pub classics menu which is available at lunchtime and in the evening. But there is also a lovely sandwich menu with a hot roast sandwich of the day - today's was chicken. The terrine of the day was Ham Hock with Piccalily - gorgeous as was the chicken, leek and mushroom pie and the fish and chips. We finished off with delicious ice cream from Bradwells. In the evening the a la carte menu comprises 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 puds. We can't wait to try it. There is something for everyone here and just the right amount of choice. Everything is locally sourced. Give it a go you will not be disappointed.

For me, a Sunday Roast is all about using the best ingredients, cooking them with love and plating them with generosity. The Old Eyre Arms ticked all 3 boxes. Perfectly cooked sirlloin of beef, large homemade Yorkshire pudding, roast and mash potatoes, roast carrot and mixed greens all framed in a good amount of rich gravy. Absolutely spot on. Only down side of the experience was the 2 disinterested young members of staff who could have had a dessert and coffee order as well - but chose to wander off and leave us sitting there in an empty room for some time. They were completely oblivious when we paid and left without ordering further. We left for coffee elsewhere. I'm sure on another day this would have been different and I know how difficult it is to source good staff so we will be back for another Sunday Roast and will try the hogget. This place is still building its reputation after installing new management but if it continues with this quality of food then I predict they're going to be booked up most days in the near future. Get in there while you can.

Unfortunately we have found that this pub has definitely deteriorated since new owners have taken over. Tried once before in April and found the menu limited, then the pie meal, which we selected, was reasonable On a recent second visit we found the menu still very restricted. So we chose what we expected to be safe - fish and chips, however, the meals were awful!! Portions were so small, they reminded us of small frozen fish portions, and with very few chips and a spoonful of pea-purée the meal looked ridiculous on the large plates. I requested pan fried fish rather than battered. It was tasteless and watery. Sadly after being regular customers, for over 20 years,at this lovely old pub we will now give it a miss and visit the better alternatives in the area. Only rated it with 1 star as a rating is necessary or wouldn't have bothered with any stars.

We called in for lunch to find new owners since our last visit. Positives - the food was very tasty and clearly good quality, the general appearance of the pub is more airy, bright and light, good atmosphere, nice selection of beers, wines and spirits (especially gins). On the downside - they are clearly still finding their way, attention to detail around service is needed, dessert menu not visible and no-one asked us if we wanted a dessert. The food is overpriced compared to similar good pubs in the locality, pie of the day at £14.50 didn't come with any potato choice £2.50 extra for chips. We will try it again in a couple of months hoping things have settled down.

The pub is beautifully presented, sitting just along from Hassop Hall. It has a lovely enclosed beer garden where we sat with a drink whilst perusing the menu. There are a good choice of beers and ales but much less choice as far as food...if you're a vegetarian. There was one option on the mains and one sandwich option. Having been really looking forward to a family lunch we were all left extremely disappointed with the experience here. We'd booked some weeks in advance for 8 people, sadly one couldn't attend due to a last minute personal issue which was met with a grumpy sarcastic remark from whom we believed to be the landlord. We ordered our lunches, I chose the Brie, bacon and cranberry sandwich and my husband had the steak sandwich, the young waitress seemed busy taking plates to other tables in another small dining area, after about 15 minutes I was told the chef had no bacon so could I chose again, a little disappointed I chose the prawn sandwich. We actually waited in total about 45 minutes to get our sandwiches! The pub itself is very cosy and was nice to sit and chat, the young barman was polite too. The other food dishes look nice that were being served to other tables. We would go again but not a place I’d rush back to but nice.

On the way to Bakewell from Sheffield ideal stop off for lunch. Lovely feel to the pub with an open fire and cheerful bar staff. The food menu is quite extensive and whilst at the top end of pricing for pub grub the quality cannot be disputed. They do have a 2 and 3 course menu option in addition to specials. Reasonably priced ales makes this a winner.

A meal for two sitting next to a log fire with a charming, chatty host was a great enjoyment. So many good dishes on the menu to choose from, we had Lasagne and steak and kidney pie followed by tarte tatin and a cheese board enjoyed with a bottle of Pinot noir, and the beers are well kept too. This is a place where locals like to eat, that means value for money. We are returning very soon.

We ate here twice during our week's stay. A very friendly welcome from the owners and tasty, sensible sized portions of food.

Log fire, wood panelling, great ale, good food, friendly hospitality, rain outside, what's not to like? OK but for the rain I'd reflect on the beer garden too, maybe next time! This was my second visit and there will be more, many more, without a shadow of a doubt.

Nice traditional pub with good real ales and a menu featuring lots of local produce. Staff were friendly and accomodating with my wife's allergies, and the home-made rabbit pie is recommended. Worth a visit if you're near Bakewell.

Excellent service, with a small but interesting menu. A large part of the menu was homemade and used local produce. Very friendly and clean.

I've been coming here for years with my parents for various special occasions, and the food has always been consistently good. Staff are always polite and chatty, and the pub itself is very cosy and quaint (log burning fire etc). It's hard to recommend a dish because they are all so good! Proper hearty home made grub, their Sunday roasts are fab and even just a light lunch (toasties etc) it's all excellent.

Not fast food, everything is freshly prepared to order. The rabbit pie is terrific and the home cooked ham is a treat.Great selection of ales and wines.Coffee was a let down, despite a freshly made shortbread.

We stopped off at the Eyre Arms at Hassop for a light lunch on a very hot day and it didn't disappoint! This is a lovely old pub! We sat in the cool and pretty beer garden and ordered ploughmans lunches (one ham, one stilton). These were just what the doctor ordered! A great selection on our plates of several different salads, slaws, fruit and bread. We were both delighted with our lunches - we could have chosen one of many delicious-sounding options from the menu, but on such a hot day, the salads were perfect and well-priced. The staff were friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. Even our dog enjoyed the attention!! The beer was good too!

Came here with my husband and sister-in-law for an early evening meal pre Chatsworth RHS Flower Show (the following day) Found the whole experience here totally great. Sam? the young landlord was so friendly, we felt like locals. The food was amazing. Left very happy. So happy indeed that we returned for lunch the next day after the Flower Show! Again great food and service. Thank you so much; we will be back. Recommend booking in advance as it is so popular and rightly so.

Sam is the perfect publican. We had a lovely meal and can recommend the special, braised beef and rhubarb crumble. The service was excellent and Sam took time out to chat with you. Definitely worth a visit.

I stopped for a lunch break with my father and aunt at the Old Eyre Arms - a very attractive looking hostelry on a fairly busy road (the car park is opposite, so take care when crossing - I nearly paid the bill from my inheritance!).There was a choice of well kept ales and an excellent menu - the fresh crab was exquisite. Our host was helpful and very courteous and the waitress as warm, sunny and pleasing on the eye as the garden in which we enjoyed our meals.Overall, an uplifting alfresco experience.

The food is beautifully cooked using local ingredients whenever possible. The prices may be mid range ( £12 to £14 for a main) but there is nothing average about the cooking skills on offer. There is someone here who really understands how to cook, how to season and what flavour goes with what. It's not flashy - It is rare to find cooking of this standard. What a find!

A bit of trickery, as I set may satellite navigation for a more famous destination, to fool my guests. The Eyre Arms is set in a delightful location and as the day was closing in the last of the light gave a pleasant glow to the hills and valleys on our journey there. My guests were not to be disappointed. The bar man was pleasant and helpful, the surroundings in the lounge bar and the paintings intriguing. We started with an ample starter of prawn cocktails and chicken soup, supplied with amiable conversation. The steak and kidney pie was excellent and the fish of the day superb. It was a bit unfortunate that some of the party didn't quite mange to finish the main course. Its one to be recommended, with regard to value for money, service and quality.

We hadn't visited this pub despite driving past hundreds of times. It's a pleasant traditional small pub, seemed to be slightly focused on eating, but that may have reflected the time of day. We sat in the beer garden, enjoyed decent sandwiches and good service. Only gripe, chips portion was rather small for the price, but they did taste good.

The food was dreadful and expensive. Can’t say it any plainer. Schnitzel was burnt and poorly presented. Pasted was soggy. The very worst was the waffles which had been microwaved and were solid! Just the two us for a birthday meal with one drink each and it cost £91!

Superb Al fresco breakfast in a lovely courtyard right in the heart of this ancient historic village. Quality of ingredients was superb, the tea was delicious and the environment was delightful. I would heartily recommend
