Lovely place & excellent coffee, totally spoilt by the customer service and attitude of the staff. Something seriously a miss here, we said please and thank you throughout our visit. I’m not sure when I have received such poor service. We will be taking our custom elsewhere The management & owners seriously need to look at this.

I remember this company from my childhood and am embarrassed never to have actually been in until yesterday! I realise I have been missing out! Firstly the coffee was excellent. I had two really lovely lattes - super smooth a very generous sizes. We also had lunch - I can highly recommend the toasties and the caramel slices! The ambiance is good and all of the ladies who served us were lovely! Definitely worth a visit!

Sending a big well done and thank you to the staff at Exchange Coffee. Today my Sister and Brother in law got married and had an afternoon tea reception in the 1849 private dining room. It was a very friendly and intimate atmosphere in the beautiful and tasteful historic dining room attached to Exchange Coffee. The cakes and sandwiches were delicious and the staff took care of us wonderfully. I highly recommend Exchange for any small celebrations.

We were in Barclays Bank on a very cold day and this was the closest coffee shop to the bank. The interior of the building is quite interesting with a late 19th century theme. The coffee was good and reasonably priced but on the day we visited the staff were not very friendly.

Just been to the exchange coffee bar in Blackburn Market. If you haven't been you need to pay a visit. Fantastic selection of coffee but I'm a tea drinker and they have just as many different teas. What made my visit so special? Jose, one of the staff who is a walking tea expert with customer skills that are second to none! What a gem she turned out to be. Thank you Jose for a great personal customer experience and for helping me to choose the right for my taste. Perfect in every sense. You're a real credit to the industry. I'll definitely return. Ken

Called today for a take out cappucino. Ordered small cappucino with extra shot. Wasnt able to taste my coffee also wasnt much choc sprinkles on. When I jokingly questioned the young female being the till with the awfully drawn tattoos in regarding the sprinkles, she got all defensive about them being stuck to the lid. Trying to lighten the mood, I joked that maybe she had left her sense of humour at home to which she responded that it's "not her fault, its because of the type of customers she has to deal with all week." Fortunately, her other two colleagues knew how to smile. When I returned to question the number of shots in the coffee, because I could only taste warm milk and no coffee, I was told that with their being three shots in there "most people want larger cup with three shots." No wonder I could only taste warm milk. Her colleague kindly made me a further shot and did not charge me. As I am walking away, due to the amount if milk vs coffee ratio in there, I still could not taste coffee but rather than go back again and ask for a fresh, small, strong coffee and have to endure tattoo girl pulling her face again, I simply threw my coffee in the bin, and walked around and ordered, received and enjoyed, and lovely cappucino from Rhode Island instead.

First time visit here just for a coffee. The range of coffees available here is amazing, I went for one off the special menu in a clever dripper. Such great notes. Mum and I waited a long time to be served. Staff were indifferent to our mention of this - I literally had to wave my arms in the air to a young girl in a manner not too dissimilar to directing a Boeing 747 along the tarmac. Faces like smacked backsides greeted us - our usual haunt is the Clitheroe branch - Clitheroe is FAR superior on all counts. Ordered a brownie - there were plenty - only to see them take the cake stand away and tell me there weren't any brownies. Someone really needs to address the appalling staff attitude - I can't believe how different the Clitheroe branch is!! One girl serving at this Blackburn branch had bright red hair and tattoos - not in keeping with the olde world nature of the Coffee Exchange.

We travelled from Wigan to visit this coffee shop after having Exchange coffee at our local deli cafe in the park. We asked the owner where she got her coffee from and she gave us the details of Exchange Coffee Roasters. So one rainy afternoon, well more of a monsoon afternoon really, we drove half an hour to Blackburn and with some direction from the local shoppers we managed to find this interesting quaint hidden gem. First impressions were one of a step back in time, from the William Morris style decor to the quirky coffe tins, the rustic tables and really pleasant staff led to an enjoyable hour sampling the coffee and cake. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable and provided us with additional information on their coffee beans for sale. We came away with a Colombian Full roast and an Expresso , both decaf, which are full of flavour and very smooth. We are now confident we can order online the beans we like, but to be honest we will probably visit the cafe again as the menu and coffees are reasonably priced and it is a great place to spend an hour relaxing.Well done to the staff, you are a credit to the company.

On the lookout for a decent place to have coffee, it was great to see this place pop up on TripAdvisor. Sadly, despite running its own roasting operation, and a lovely location and shop, the coffee served here is basic at best - generic, overroast, bitter swill of the sort that passed as coffee in the 1970s perhaps but is unacceptable from a modern roaster some 40 years on.

The soup was tomato and basil, it was good but was at near boiling point when served, it took me half an hour of constant twirling to eat it all but my daughter gave up saying it's not getting cooler.I would have maybe given it full marks if it wasn't for a member of staff doing her paper work on the next table and click click click on her calculator.

We arrived at 1.15 to be told when ordering soup and sandwiches that there was only 3 soups left.good job only two of us wanted it . The soup was tasty and sandwiches good . Couldn't say the same for the prawn toasty which should have had pineapple. ( they had run out of pineapple) how can that happen when you can keep tinned in stock. Also I've never had a toasty that didn't have any cheese to hold it together. The salad that came with it was very poor and there was a small pot of what tasted like tomatoe sauce . The staff waiting on we're very polite and busy . So just a shame about the meal . I won't be rushing back .

The food is a little expensive, but we usually just go for tea and coffee which is served fresh and lose (teapot & cafetiere) in which there is no comparison to teabags. The prices for these drinks are very reasonable for the quality of the drink and the environment itself. We visit here a couple of times a week and love it.

Surrounded by some beautiful, more sophisticated locations, Blackburn is more of a go to if you have to place, than somewhere you'd visit out of choice (unless you live there). However, stumbling upon the Exchange Coffee Company was a very pleasing surprise and a bit of an oasis in what is a pretty grim hitch-potch town. The place has an individual and instant charm and class about it that immediately puts you at ease. You can see it's clean, that you aren't going to be poisoned and ordering from the menu is going to be safe. The coffee is excellent and the food homely, fresh and appetising. Can't say I'd make a special point of going there, but if I ever have to visit Blackburn and need breakfast, coffee, a light lunch or tea and cake, then it's a relief to know there's somewhere really nice to go.

Let it be said; I love The Exchange Coffee shop. The drinks (both hot and cold) are varied and extensive (seriously the tea and coffee choice is huge) and so full of flavour. My particular favourites are the hot chocolates (though being notoriously fussy with regards to hot beverages they're pretty much the only hot drinks I'll consume on a semi regular basis) and the smoothies are gorgeous (so much better tasting than the Costa versions in The Mall). The cakes are also to die for! some of the best I've tasted (the fudge cake with clotted cream and chocolate sauce is a particular favourite of my husband and I). Lastly the decoration downstairs is fab, very warm and evokes feelings of being in an old country house (indeed it reminds me of being in my great aunt's house as a child and brings back lovely memories). My only complaint is the lunches. I've eaten lunch here twice now and both times have been a disappointment. They have some interesting and exciting choices on their menu (especially on the specials board) but both of the dishes I've had have been undercooked. Indeed the accompaniments on one dish were inedible, the potatoes were so undercooked they were practically still in the ground. It's a shame as lunch spoiled an otherwise enjoyable visit both times. Next time I'll stick to ordering a sandwich. You can't go wrong with a sandwich, right?Overall a nice place to go to recharge your batteries on a busy day (it's nice sitting outside in the warmer weather too as the thoroughfare isn't obtrusively busy) and it is ostensively a coffee shop rather than an eatery so my rating is still high and the poor lunches have in no way put me off visiting again.

I was disappointed to discover that Blackburn catherdral's café in the crypt was regularly closed on Mondays, but it was recommended by someone I met at the cathedral that I should visit the nearby Exchange Coffee Company in Fleming Square. So it was that at 12.45 today, Monday 11/05/15 I rocked up at that place. For all of those who care not to read further, I'm delighted to report that this sceptic will visit again, and soon. Here's why. The venue is small, and the only table suitable for a sole visitor carried plates, cups and what-have-you, yet these were swiftly removed by a smiling waitress. My glances at other staff were returned with easy smiles. Such lessons of pleasant effectiveness are not easily learned by most in this town. There is a mix of young and older staff here who have an uncanny common purpose. If it's conveyed by training then it's the best training to be had.I chose a Puerto Rican coffee from rather much else on the menu. Teas and daily food specials remain to be savoured. Scrambled egg on toasted muffin was all I could accommodate after a ghastly Sunday afternoon pub-restaurant visit I had made out of family-birthday duty, and after which Burnley has much status to regain. The cafetière of Puerto Rican was entirely as described, delivering three cups of snapping taste for less than three pounds. From this choice alone, my visit was entirely worthy of its forthcoming repeat. For the scrambled egg, I was asked if I wanted an accompanying salad. Such a pleasing touch; I am allergic to to some salad ingredients and this is a further example of the uncanny perception among the staff - so infinitely better than the ubiquitous notices advising that customers must proclaim allergies. The muffin was perfectly toasted and the scrambled egg a subtle mix of texture and colour.

Lovely cafe, with a upstairs and downstairs. It is a small entrance to the cafe and feels rather overcrowded, I wouldn't like to negotiate it with a push chair especially if people are queuing to pay. They sell ground coffee etc for home use, they also have a range of cups etc to purchase. The food is good and the coffee is really good.

Great view out of the window, paper to read & an espresso while your waiting for your other half to turn up! All that with the bustle of the market. Great.

If you like coffee then you can't go wrong here. There's a relaxed atmosphere with a 1930's 40's feel however if you like tea then choose your blend and try a little tiffin

Had mid week lunch and coffee here. Like always place was packed but service was prompt and food was delicious. Burgers are really tasty and salads are massive. This place never disappoints. Love it every time.

We had coffee and snacks, we waited a good while to have our order to be taken, we were considering leaving but we ordered coffee and sandwiches. The food and coffee was good but a little pricy, table 15 was wobbly and had uneven legs some of my coffee spilled out when my wife leant on the table. Overall it was ok but will try somewhere else next time.

We went for lunch on a cold January SaturdayWe were met by charming friendly staff, we got the last available table. The special board offered a wide choice as did the menu. The restaurant itself is charming and quirkey. We were promptly served, the food came reasonably quickly particularly as they were so busy and the food was freshly prepared. The choice of coffee and tea was amazing. When the food arrived it was beautifully presented hot and tasted superb. They served hearty Northern portions. For value, quality and friendly service this little restaurant cannot be beaten and we would recommend it to anyone.

We went to the café on Fleming Square on Saturday for breakfast as it was recommended to us it was a very bad morning and we where glad to get inside where it was warm and most pleasant surroundings we both felt very comfortable. The breakfast was beautiful a good portion and all well cooked and excellent produce me and my wife loved it but would say that the breakfast was a little large for her.......but I managed it and what she did not !! and the coffee's where also beautiful and we where served very fast by a very pleasant young lady who chatted and smiled such a warm welcome. Cant fault this café at all 100% credit to them...........But would like to know if someone wanted say a bacon or sausage sandwich that was not a big breakfast or something else a little smaller could you get as was not on the menu. And some would say it was costly but I feel for what you got the service and a very good standard of food £5.25 was very good and will definitely be eating hear again after eating breakfasts in most of the Blackburn cafes this rates very high indeed Thank You

We visited as a family of four for lunch whilst out shopping. This place is well worth the short walk out of the mall. We had 2 x the italian chicken fillet burger served with salad, homemade coleslaw and chips, and 2 x the brie, bacon and cranberry toastie served with crisps and salad. Both dishes were served beautifully, fresh and tasty. The range of coffees is vast and all four of us enjoyed a different selection. The service was excellent with young, polite and efficient waitresses who were a credit to the establishment. This place always offers something a little different and at £35 we felt this was great value. Would highly recommend.

Stopped in today to collect a fresh selection of coffee beans today and got take out drinks for the road. The Peanut latte was superb not too sweet and a real taste of peanuts coming through. The creme brulle one was also great even though a little too sweet for even my sweet tooth. Service swift and great, all the staff seem friendly and always smile.

I admit I've visited here just the once, but after a recent trip to Europe and a new found addiction to espressos, I will be visiting more regularly to pick up coffee beans for my new machine and I think to sit and enjoy a coffee in the relaxing atmosphere and to write in my journal

This one of our favourite places for coffee - I have been going here since I was 7. The coffee is roasted on site and very well looked after. The staff are always happy to help and very pleasant. They do excellent sandwiches and toasties and a great toasted currant tea cake. Standards are high and the whole place has a relaxed vibe - I buy my coffee for home from here and it is great quality. Best coffee shop for miles. You must visit.

Great coffee, classy atmosphere, nothing like the chains. Excellent location, close to the shops but on a quiet back street. Brilliant with outside tables on a sunny day but really cosy space inside too.

If I'm in Blackburn, for any reason, I always try to go to the Exchange Coffee Company's beautiful boutique coffee shop on the quirky little street opposite the cathedral. I love the oak panelled room with the Morris wallpaper, antique tables & chairs & the tiled floor downstairs, & the little room above with the rooflights. The food & drink are delicious & service friendly & efficient. There are attractive tea & coffee pots & a good selection of fine bone china mugs to buy, as well as coffee beans, freshly ground coffee & loose leaf tea to buy to take home.

It was a Friday night at 9.30pm and Euro 2024 was on when we went in. We expected it to be packed with the Friday night crowd watching the football but to our amazement there was only our party of 4 plus one more chap in there!! There were 2 ladies who served us who were very pleasant. The beer was decent, the room is clean & well decorated but let's hope it has busier times than this through the week, otherwise I fear the worst!
