Before starting a week's holiday in Seville in August my twin brother and I decided to jump the train down from Kirkby to Liverpool City Centre and visit some of the great pubs our city is justifiably famous for, at the top of our list was The Excelsior Pub. This is a great real ale pub ,its got a great look, an island style serving bar, great furnishings and decorated tastefully throughout this multi roomed pub, tv's to enjoy the sport and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, its a good old fashioned boozer . We were here on a Thursday night, pub was busy with a great atmosphere, quite a few Americans tourists in here ,a quick study of their real ale's and in the end we both opted to go for pale ales from Ossett Brewery, these were served in excellent condition,we grabbed a table were we soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular pub while we sipped our pale ale's. My pale ale was really good, a crisp, well balanced pale ale, hints of toffee, very easy to drink, a classic British pale ale served in a classic British pub, its hardly surprising that this pub is so popular with ale's served in this good a condition. We both really enjoyed our pale ale's in here, we only stayed for the one each before we moved on, couldn't fault anything about our visit here, can't wait to go again next time we're in Liverpool City Centre after our holiday to Seville. The Excelsior Pub is easy to locate along Dale Street, a street famous in Liverpool due to its splendid architecture and great real ale pubs. Opening hours are; Monday to Sunday, open from 11am. Well worth checking out if you're in the area.

Before starting a week's holiday in Budapest we dropped into town for a day of visiting the wonderful pubs our city possesses and at the top of our list of pubs we visited was The Excelsior Pub. A great real ale pub ,an island style serving bar, multi roomed, big screens to enjoy the sport, great decor and furnishings and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, its just a really good pub to unwind in. It's been ages since my last visit here ,been mostly in Europe the last 9 months ,we were here on a cold and rainy November evening, we ordered Timothy Taylors " boltmaker " these pale ale's were served in excellent condition ,we chilled out and soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular real ale pub. My pale ale was really good, well balanced, hints of toffee, hoppy but not overhopped, a delicious aroma and aftertaste with a slight bitter finish to it, a classic British pale ale served in a classic British pub, hardly surprising that this pub is so popular with ale's of this quality. MY TWIN BROTHER ( ha ha ) Stephen and I really enjoyed our ales here before we moved on and as on every other visit to here we had a great time, think previous reviewer a bit miffed about my reviews ,lol, get over it fella it's a bit of fun doing a review. This is a review NOT from the twin brothers! Lovely, friendly, traditional pub just across from the Travelodge where we are staying with sport for my husband and good music for me. The burgers, chips and onion rings were delicious. Good beer too. Timothy Taylor's Boltmakers is one of my faves. £8 for two pints so not expensive. Thoroughly recommend The Excelsior!

The Excelsoir on Dale street is an excellent local pub that offers an excellent food and drinks range and is on a street where there are many cask beer pubs. This is a fantastic local pub and has been here for as long as I've been drinking on Dale street. Housed in a brilliant building with a limited outside seating area'the interior is brilliant with a nautical themed interior with superb decor and furnishing's and brilliant seating area's throughout the whole interior and to top it off superb staff. We have been drinking in here for years as it offer's a superb range of cask beers and they show live sport on there many screens dotted throughout the interior. It gets really busy when they show live sport in here and the atmosphere is superb. We visited here in the afternoon on a really cold day during the week and it wasn't that busy but it had only just opened up.On our visit we had a few glasses of cask ales that where perfectly served and price wise on a par with other pubs on Dale street. This is a fantastic local pub thats in a good area of the city centre and is really easy to locate from Moorfields train station take a left on to Dale street and walk along to the end of Dale street its a five minute walk. Had the misfortune to vist here this afternoon/evening with 2 friends. There was only one guest beer (Cascade) on which was at best average. 2 Timothy Taylors on below average! Casade went off (I wonder why). We did persevere for 3 rounds @ £12.00 per round. But sadly no improvement. And to add insult to the poor beer quality we were informed the we couldn't eat peanuts that were purchased outside of the pub!!!! Sacrifice custom over a bag of nuts? Tip walk on to The Vernon.

No many customers in on the night we visited compared with the other pubs visited on the same day/night with a very loud and dare I say it painful to us, singer.

The beers are always great here they have a selection of light, dark and copper and often have them from local breweries. Would highly recommend.

Before starting a weeks holiday in Bratislava my twin brother Stephen and I decided to go into town for a craft beer bar and real ale pub trail to get us in the mood for our upcoming holiday. We jumped the train down from Kirkby to Moorfields Train Station and headed straight to Dale Street which contains some of Liverpool's finest real ale pub's. We got to The Excelsoir Pub as the Liverpool v Wolverhampton F.A cup match was on and this pub was packed. After a quick study of the ale's on offer we both opted to have Timothy Taylors Landlord and this award winning real ale was served in absolutely perfect condition,we luckily managed to get a couple of seats at a table were we watched the footy while enjoying our delicious real ales. The Excelsoir Pub itself is a superb pub,a light and airy interior with wood panelled wall's,dark wooden tables and chairs, photo's adorning the wall's of bygone Liverpool and a cool island style bar, which serves both sides of the pub in this multi roomed "boozer ".The pub offers a great pub meal menu and also some of the best kept real ale's in Liverpool by staff who are really knowledgeable about their ale's. We had a great time in here were we watched the footy and supped our real ale's before we moved on,not to far actually as we went to The Ship & Mitre Pub which is a one minute walk away. The Excelsoir Pub is really easy to find, exit Moorfields Train Station onto Dale Street and turn left walking towards the flyover were you will find this pub.Opening hours are;Monday to Saturday,11am till 11pm. I’ve never written a negative review of anything before but I was so disappointed with the roast here I felt I had to leave some feedback. We love the dovedale for drinks, and have had some amazing food in the past (notably the sausage and mash, which doesn’t seem to be on the menu anymore). But today we tried the roast and I’ve got to say, it was THE worst roast I’ve ever had. For a vegan roast, you’d expect at least a nut roast, at best some kind of seitan / meat alternative. But no, this seemed to be replaced with a giant burnt cauliflower, completely unseasoned and tasteless. The rest of the veg (cabbage, swede and broccoli :| ) was undercooked and unseasoned. The roast potatoes were abysmal, they were burnt, hard and some how chewy (?!) all at the same time. The only redeeming factor was the gravy. The meat roast wasn’t much better. A bit more thought for vegetarians and a basic knowledge of seasoning wouldn’t go amiss, I’d have better spent £15 on a Toby carvery, or to be honest any bog standard chain pub. Vegetarians save your money and get your roast in the egg cafe in town.
