Evington Fish & Chips in Leicester

Popped into here on the way home from work one evening. It was 5pm so this place had been open for 30 minutes already, no one in there, i was the only customer yet for whatever reason i was waiting 10 minutes, not once was i told that there would be a wait on the chips - i only ordered a regular portion of chips! Common courtesy/good customer service is very much lacking in this establishment. Got the chips home - very disappointing, £2.90 for what was the smallest portion of chips i have ever seen (see photo). To put it in comparison, there was only enough there for 4 rounds of bread - chip butties. I have paid the same, even less in other chippies and got more of a portion. I won't go here again, its a con. It seems that other people that have been here have also had bad experiences - just look at their reviews as they pretty much mirror my experience.

We have used this shop for the last 8 years and always supported them. Last night we had 2 large fish and chips which for pensioners is very much a treat at £20.00. I was absolutely appalled that they used substandard fish … it was very thin, pasty, grey and tasteless this was NOT cod or haddock. I feel completely ripped off and will never use or recommend this shop … shame on you !!!

I love this place. Nice, friendly people and fresh food. Easy to park which is a bonus. Some Indian dishes too which are really tasty.

Went at about 7pm and ordered 2 kebabs After bringing home 3 dead flies in my friends meal and 1 in mine!! Was given a full refund however no real apology

I use to go here a lot as the food was clean and freshly made as they would never cook items unless you are there to order or preheat anything. Just been down after 8 months since moving location and the standards have dropped so much that I would not go back even if they were giving the food away for free. Changes Before - Chips were fresh out of the fryer and a decent portion. Now - Chips are soggy and the portions reduced to a handful. Before - Fish Cod or Haddock were in a fresh and crispy batter finger looking good. Now - Fish Cod or Haddock OMG soggy not cooked well at all disappointing. Before - Fish and Chips were packed separately so that all items still had the appeal. Now - Fish and Chips packed together so that the batter sticks to all the chips and that they can save on how many chips are distributed to customers. Before - They had so many customer as the food quality was a great experience. Now - You hardly see the customers looks like they have decided on profits instead of Quality.

I was impressed with the chooice of vegan pies they had and ordered a vegan chicken and mushroom pie. As I was eating it I noticed the texture was different to what I was used to so I looked at the filling and it was REAL chicken, so I stopped eating it. I was too upset to go back and complain. I have not eaten meat for 30 years so it is a big shock. They clearly dont care about peoples dietry needs so I would suggest they may not notice if they gave someone something they were allergic to. I just hope it doesnt lead to worse consequences. Not caring whether they gave me the correct order when they were aware I didnt want to eat meat is pretty fundamental in their role as provider of food, so I am giving one star as this has really badly affected me

Ordered a cone chips and was left very surprised with the portion.. barely over a handful for £1.80.

I always use this place as the food is always freshly cooked and the family that run it are delightful. Sometimes if my family want fish and chips, but I fancy something different, I get the chilli paneer with naan bread, which is homemade by the lady of the house....it’s divine!

The Fish and Chips are divine! This is my go to place for my weekly intake of takeaway food. If you are new to this place, defo try the tandoori fish!

This Fish & Chip shop belonged to Cypriot who retired 8 years ago. I used to frequent it . He sold the business to an Indian couple who have made a success of it. Iwent out of town and had not been there for some years. Last week I returned and stopped over. The fish was really good and crispy and we really enjoyed it.
