The food was excellent and the service perfect, we met a lovely waitress with whom we were able to chat. I highly recommend this place! The setting is also exceptional and being able to see in real time what is being prepared for us is fascinating. It was a great time :)

A great spot with vibrant atmosphere well decorated. The waiting time on a weekend for food is quite long, not sure if that was one off (maybe staff shortage) but waited around 40 minutes for food and 20 for coffee. The food was delicious but the portion was smaller than expected. I’d still say it’s a great spot to catch up with friends for a long stay.

When we came in it was one of the kitchen staff that needed to ring the bell for the waiters to see and welcome/ seat us. Though the restaurant was nearly empty. They very put us on a small round table. Very uncomfortable. On the other hand food is really good. Tasty and fresh! Really recommend sumac chicken and the humus! Take a bit more care of your customers as you have great scene, fantastic food.

The desserts were average and the steak was a bit old. The overall portion is not very big and the drinks are great!

We had a fantastic brunch here. We chose the chicken sando and the mushroom on toast. Both were delicious, with the absolute winner being the mushrooms. It had a lovely atmosphere too and most of the staff were super helpful and friendly except for the host who was super grumpy when we arrived. It was very off putting but maybe he was just having a bad morning. Otherwise, we loved it and we will definitely be returning.

A really nice brunch spot, the winner here was the mushrooms on toast with a plastic egg on top. It was truly delicious and the nicest mushrooms on toast I’ve had in the UK (and second only to that found in Melbourne). The fried chicken burger was also really tasty, with a great batter that mixed in some salt and pepper. The decor is nice, and we weren’t rushed or hassled on a lazy Sunday morning, so it was worth the visit

Really good Sunday roast - I had the vegan roast and my friend had the beef, and we were very impressed! They didn’t have a table when we first arrived but we could reserve one for 45 minutes time and we went downstairs for a drink first which was also very nice. Quite expensive but very good quality food and drinks. Lovely atmosphere with lots of nice plants. Friendly and professional staff.

Happened upon this Parisien style resto while walking the area and was delighted with the food, drink and service. Our servers Elda and Faythe were attentive without being invasive. Flo as FOH manager was kind, warm and ran things smoothly without fuss. Callam, the head chef was a star in the kitchen presenting original, simple and creative dishes that delighted the meat easters and vegetarians as well. No mean feat! Having eaten at some outstanding restos in Paris over the previous few days (Puce and la Villa Dora), I was delighted to find Evelyn's and will return when next in Manchester. Thank you all!

The service was superb, staff had been friendly chatty and were always smiling, they made us feel very welcome. The food tasted delicious, I had the chicken pesto panini and a sausage roll I definitely would recommend visiting if you’re in Banff town

The atmosphere was great some staff were friendly. I usually don’t do reviews but I wanted to do a review as I think the place would benefit from it. I would recommend staff to taste the food before serving it like the salt? And please ask customers if their food is okay as an introvert I didn’t feel like saying oh the food was super salty. I got charged 27 pound for the food. The food was so salty like I’m talking like it was like I’m eating pure salt i got the mushrooms and ceaser salad. The food ruined my taste buds for the rest of the day 👍🏽 I couldn’t even eat most of it the waitress didn’t ask if the food was okay I assume she knew from the amount left it was not good but didn’t try to ask but I saw her asking others. This made me feel very disappointed as I wanted to share my opinion but I felt like I couldn’t. This made the experience not great and I can safely say I wouldn’t go again.

I was not happy out with the service - I ordered a glass of wine during happy hour when the wine is listed as 50% off. Only after the bill they said that promotion is for bottles only when it is unclear on the menu. They did not honor the 50% off to make it right for the customer. Besides that, it’s solid food at higher prices.

This place was lovely! The decor was charming and the food was incredible. Lots of vegetarian options. I had a shakshuka, I’ve had a lot of shakshuka in my time but i can confidently say this one is up there with one of the best.

Came here and was seated without a res no problem. Everything that came out was the most delicious food I’ve ever had & we ordered half the menu practically (it’s tapas style). Such amazing flavors and dishes. We were in awe of how good everything was. If you’re in Manchester, you’d be remiss if you didn’t try this place out!!!!

Went here for brunch on a Sunday. We booked in advance as it is bookings only on a Sunday, so make sure you do on a Sunday or you will be turned away. Place was busy when we turned up at 11.30am. Greeted by a lovely host. The restaurant is small and cozy and nicely decorated. To drink we ordered Vietnamese ice coffee which could have been stronger, coffee wise. Then we ordered the Shakshuka, Avocado toast with poached egg and the pancakes. The Shakshuka was nicely spiced and the crispy chickpeas were lovely. Unfortunately my egg whites were still a bit runny and I would have preferred another slice of toast. My partner enjoyed his Avocado toast. The pancakes looked like Yorkshire puddings which I have never seen before! They were very tasty though. Light, not dense and stodgy. I would have liked some more sauce and possibly some type of cream. This place is also halal and do not serve pork. Overall enjoyed eating here and will be going back to try the Sunday dinner!

I visited it last year, it was amazing in terms of food and service. I visited again yesterday, not too busy. The food is still great but service was so slow. It took them 50 minutes for shakshuka and a sandwich. The waitress never said sorry for the delay, she was not taking the service seriously. And then they added 10% service charge?

Lovely coffee, nice surroundings but frosty service. Not my vibe. I love interacting with friendly staff but that wasn’t our experience when we popped in for a coffee and catch up. Maybe we hit an off day. Who knows. Won’t be returning

Went for dinner with friends. Nice atmosphere and correct service. I ordered the cheeseburger with hand-cut fries. The burger felt slightly basic, with just cheese, lettuce, pickles and the patty. However, a top-notch patty, particularly thick and well done, made up for a very good overall burger. The pickles were a bit too acidic and the sauce a tad too spicy for my taste. The hand cut fries were on a field of their own, and not in a good sense. They were very soft and greasy, no crispness to be seen for miles, too dark colored and clearly overcooked. Among the worst fries I've eaten in a decade. From my own experience, it might have been due to poor-quality potatoes. Finally, prices. High, but average for the Northern quarter. But since the quality of the food was overall average at best, I felt like it couldn't justify the prices at all, much less when I saw the 10% service charge. Top tip: there's a Sicilian restaurant around the corner with much better food for similar prices. You're welcome.

Trendy eatery which is not really my thing. Music was nice. Cocktail was insipid. Food was fairly tasty- staff advised when sharing small plates to order 2 or 3 each. That would have been too much for us but we needed extra bread for dips as the bread size was tiny. Overall not bad at all.

Went for lunch on Wednesday. The cafe was mostly full but managed to get a table without booking. It was busy but the food and coffee came relatively fast. Enjoyed poke bowl and latte.

Went to Evelyn's for dinner on a tuesday night and couldn't recommend it more. We didn't have a reservation but got a table straight away. Atmosphere was great, not too noisy but had a cute vibe for a summer evening. Staff were lovely, made us feel very welcome and gave great recommendations on food and wine when we couldn't decide. We had a number of the small plates recommended, the hummus may have been the best I have ever tried, and the mushrooms were full of flavour. Will be coming back here soon to try the rest of the menu!

Absolutely revoluting. Potentially the worst food experience i've ever had in this country. Last weekend I ordered the sole and it came out horrible, super floply almost like it has been boiled...but worst of all, it was NOT degutted!!! In which era are we living where a fish is served with all of its guts?! Never ever been served a fish with guts at any restaurant across the globe so I can't fathom why we were here. The fish looks nothing like the Instagram photo posted by the restaurant itself too!! When we complained about this to our server she just nodded and did nothing. We genuinely felt queasy all day from this dish. Leeks were also so rubbery you couldn't even cut through them. Please avoid this place and it's lack of culinary skill and creativity shown.

Why did it take half an hour to get a bottle of beer? Very poor indeed. The food was okay, which turns my score from a 1 to 3. Would try one of the other places in Manchester than here than if I come to Manchester again.

I had the worst experience at this restaurant, and I must share my disappointment. Throughout my visit, the redhead Caucasian waitress seemed completely oblivious to my requests, even when I was just 50 centimeters away from her. Despite being seated for 15 minutes, I was not offered water, whereas the guests next to me were promptly served upon seating. This blatant disregard for my presence has left me deeply disappointed and disgusted. This is outright discrimination that I cannot overlook.

One of the most bad and overpriced experience ever. Too noisy place we went for brunch after shopping. We order steak and eggs with extra poached egg spinach and the kind if English breakfast with extra halloumi.a lavender lemonade and a coke. The lemonade wasn't stirred and no spoon to do it by your self of course so i had half super sour and half super sweet lemonade. The steak come.pink as we order with two fried to death eggs. The extra spinach was in the other plate like the chef or the waitress know us forever so they assume that what ever is ones plate is also to others too. The single fried egg in the other plate was also extra well done nothing to crush with your bread. Lots of baked beans in the middle of the plate sauce all over really a mess. No salt in most of them. For all them we payed 61.50 pounds. An unbelievable amount for what we get. The service was fast but the lady didn't really listen. Side spinach for 3.50 the price for two killos of spinach. U can't charge spinach the same as hallumi and more than an egg. It is super no from me. The two stars just because the steak come correct cooked.

The restaurant is good, the decoration is superior and its very greeny. The staff are kind and there if you need any help. The food was delicious and was perfectly cooked. The food is also halal!

The service here is not what it once was and it's a real shame. I can deal with being ignored with the best of them, but it's the manner in which it's done here. They seem to be aware of it and they don't seem to be that bothered by it and that's what makes it worse. I assume the name of the place helps to bring the returning customers? I watched 4 tables around me come after me and served before me and I let it be because I recognise the world doesn't revolve around me. One person (I assume the manager on that shift) asked someone to take my order but they didn't seem to want to, so they didn't for a further awkward 5 minutes and it felt like forever because you've heard them being told and you are sat there, looking stupid holding the menu ready and waiting because you don't want to look as if you're unprepared and they are nowhere to be seen. When the server finally came over, I didn't know who to feel sorry for: Me for having to deal with someone who clearly didn't want to be there, or her for having to take my order. What a confusing time! I won't bother warning you of what happens when you try and get anyone's attention. Ok, I will warn you. They will look completely through you like the irrelevant person you are. Shame really as the food remains good (I ordered the sando burger, fries and the souffle pancakes) and surely that's what is important? I probably won't be rushing back any time soon, as I think we are lucky in Manchester to have such a good food scene. I've tried to remain fair and given it 3/5. To me these issues are easily remedied if they really wanted to remedy them.

I ordered pancakes which I thought would be filling as they were under the brunch section and not a dessert, they were tasty but I was left hungry. The first thing we said when we left the restaurant was how cold and rude the tone of the waitress was and how uncomfortable we felt. I’ve been here in the past but wouldn’t come back, can’t justify it besides the fact it’s a pretty place.

Very tasty mushrooms on toast, good flavors and interesting ingredients, not just the usual offerings. Excellent coffee. The plants and lupins on the table confirm a careful attention to detail in creating a lovely setting to eat in company or alone. Staff are efficient, friendly and not overbearing.

The meal we had at Evelyn's was so delicious. The braised butter beans especially. We were warmly welcomed by Florence when we arrived, she was very friendly and took good care of us for the duration of our visit. Would definitely come here again!

Lovely place for a meal when you want to be fancy but not too fancy. Staff were really nice but a bit confused when we asked for the group menu, same when we wanted to pay. Food was delicious and something I definitely wouldn't get elsewhere, although I wasn't personally a fan of the pudding (it isn't a souffle!). Drinks were a little on the expensive side but overall wasn't too bad. Will defo be back again though!

Went with three friends for a late lunch today. Loved this place, great building with fabulous decor. We were shown to a table promptly and given menus. We were not rushed at all but when we placed our order, the food followed without a long wait. Loved the open kitchen ! We all had different food and we all raved about the quality and taste. Went for dinner last night and the food was amazing. Personal faves were the fried courgettes with whipped feta, pistachio tapenade and black garlic, sumac chicken, salmon tartare and the incredible chocolate soufra which didn't make the photos as we all dug in and destroyed it! After recently drinking copious amounts of Basque Txakoli wine in San Sebastian, it was a real treat to see it on the wine list here. Topped off a great night. Thanks to all the staff who made us feel so welcome. Can't wait to come back :-)

Jes (I think that's their name) was our server, and went above and beyond. We came in off the Megabus with some luggage and Jes took it to the office for us, later bringing it back out for us. Aside from that, the food was delicious and the coffee excellent. Atmosphere was great, artsy, edgy, and relaxed.

I visited for lunch. Before I came here, I reservated. Recently, I haven't taken meat dishes, so I ordered egg&sirloin and a non-alcohol cocktail. Everything was pretty delicious, and the cocktail was also suitable with main dishes. However,,, I suppose it wasn't easy to contact the staff, they didn't give me attention so I needed to wait too long terms. That's reason, I couldn't give 5 stars.

I used to love this place! such a shame because now the staff are hostile, the service is slower than slow and the food is underwhelming. The second star is purely because it’s pretty in there. I will give it that.

Dinner 22 April 2024 - Party of five colleagues - warm welcome even though we were a walk-in. Very friendly and helpful staff, nice atmosphere and delicious, healthy food. I initially had an issue with my dessert (spiced date pudding 😋 ) however this was quickly resolved satisfactorily. I look forward to visiting Evelyn’s Café & Bar again when next in Manchester.

Visited Evelyn’s Cafe on Saturday lunch time. There was a small wait to get in as the place was very busy but the staff were very friendly and informative about the wait. Once in, the menu had numerous dishes that I would have loved to try but I went for the steak and egg with a side of zatar oyster mushrooms, and my wife the fish and chip. Both dishes were beyond expectation, every mouthful was a joy. Washed down with some of the best margaritas I’ve had. The whole experience was fantastic. And then came the fluffy pancakes, wow what can I say light fluffy the best pancakes I’ve ever had. Thanks team Evelyn’s. With a big shout out to Lucas in the kitchen. Thank you all for a great time. I will be back next time I’m in Manchester.

Great lunch. Lots of choice and fantastic food. Service was slow-ish but friendly on a very busy Saturday lunch. Really enjoyed it and hope to return.

Went for lunch today and after being recommended to go I was very disappointed. The prices were insane. My boyfriend had the smashed avo which was one slice of toast with some avocado on it coming at £11 (no extras). I had the poke bowl which was £16 but the ginger in the dish overpowered everything, ruining the whole meal. Service was slow, with the drinks coming at the same time as the food, and we didn’t have a check back at all to see if everything was okay. Then when the bill came they put a service charge on it, and when we asked to have it removed (because the only service we received was our order being taken and the food being brought to us) the waiter we had became abrupt and rude with him even saying we had to work out how much we had to pay, and then stormed off without so much as a “have a nice day.” Then, to top things off he went behind the bar and started saying things about us to other members of staff (we know this because they turned round to look and point at us). As someone who works in hospitality this is not how you look after your tables, and the waiter in the floral shirt needs to realise that he should not be reliant on tips to give a nice service.

(Visited Feb 2024) Coconut water on the drinks menu- great start! I only ordered 2 plates: I could have eaten more, but they were a bit too pricey. While the Salmon Tartare was sparse, I absolutely loved the sweet potato plate. (Visited 2022) I came here with a vegan pal- I was also on a bit of an elimination diet at the time but the options for both of us were great. They didn’t have the juice I wanted (Carrot/Orange/Ginger) so I just stuck with water. I got the Superfood Bowl- a healthful, nutritious bowl of avocado, cucumber, radish, broccoli, spinach, carrot and more! There were other tasty-sounding dishes like Spiced Duck Leg that I would have liked to try. I would come back!

Ok experience. Food was good, but one person in the table received wrong order. Shakshuka without egg corrected with a side poached egg. Not the same thing. For the experience, wait in queue and price, not coming back

We decided to return to Evelyn’s for our third anniversary after celebrating our first here a couple of years ago and having really enjoyed it. However this time the experience was very different. Upon walking in, the restaurant decor and atmosphere really is beautiful, however this does not make up for the poor standard of service, menu choices and food. Particularly when you factor in the cost. The service has a lot to live up to for a restaurant which is supposed to have more of an up market vibe. When shown to our table the waitress just dropped the menus on our table and walked away. Never asked for allergies and not so much as a hello. I ordered the sumac chicken which was actually really nice, however the chips were quite dry and overcooked. My partner ordered the burger, which was red raw and cold in the middle and his chips were near inedible. The menu choices are very limited, unlike a couple of years ago when there were lots of tasty options available. Nobody checked back on our table or asked if we wanted anymore drinks. We then ordered the chocolate soufra for dessert which we waited a long 20 minutes for to arrive. When it did arrive it was honestly awful. Didn’t even taste like chocolate, was really dry and had nuts (baring in mind they never asked for allergies!). Took us another 20 minutes to get someone’s attention for the bill. Never asked how our experience was and 10% service charge was automatically added to the bill. Won’t be visiting again as the standards have dropped massively in terms of service/friendliness and food since we last visited a couple of years ago.

The food was good enough. The plates were small and expensive for their size but overall we had a nice meal. Our server, Erin T., however was rude us as we were paying for our food. They were short and impolite as we were figuring out how to pay for the meal. We walked away feeling offended and disappointed with the service.

Once I asked a chicken, “where would you like to go after you die?” And it said, “Evelyn’s Cafe & Bar in Manchester’s Northern Quarter.” I thought it must have had some kind of mad chicken disease. But then I had the sumac chicken salad at Evelyn’s, and now I understand the chicken’s wish. In fact, if I were a chicken I would also like my dead body to end up in Evelyn’s kitchen.

My parents and I visited Evelyn’s on Mother’s Day. Service was great, food came quickly, and it was absolutely delicious. Both of my parents loved it too. We all had a Sunday Roast - 10 out of 10!

Had a great time here for my friends birthday, was small and cozy, food looked fantastic but limited choices and some of the veg looked amazing but tasted very bland (sweet potato) service was nice but a little slow but we didn't mind because we weren't in a rush, the lamb and the chicken where very good, as was the wine. Wish we had made it down to daisy for drinks, but overall a very pleasant evening

One of the best brunches in the city, and always very kind staff. Every time I come, they have wonderful food! Beautiful restaurant with really nice natural lighting. You will not be disappointed if you try Evelyn’s out!

The worst service I’ve ever had. The front of house man was extremely rude. If you’re going to run a cafe, you should be able to serve the number of table you have at your location - leaving people waiting for an hour to sit down when there is empty tables is diabolical. Such a cute spot! I went on a Friday morning around 9:30am, so not too busy. But based on how good the food is, that is not always the case. I had the most amazing pancakes on earth! If you don't mind a sweet breakfast, for sure give them a try. Great service too!
