I was shocked at how they kept customers standing even though there were so many empty tables, but apparently that's just how it is at this place. I've read so many reviews that point to the same problem! I came a long way to eat here, and the waitress asked me to wait for another waitress. When that second waitress finally showed up, she asked me to wait a few more minutes. I waited a little while, and then I was shocked to see her head straight to the kitchen without a care! If you value your time and self-respect, don't come here. I was shocked at how they kept customers standing despite the large number of empty tables, but this seems to be the approach of this place. I've read several reviews mentioning the same problem! I came from a faraway place to this place, but I was surprised when the waitress asked me to wait until another waitress arrived. I recently moved to Manchester and have been looking for a local spot to support — ideally somewhere that backs local business. My expectations are pretty straightforward: if the food’s good, that’s good enough for me. I’m not after anything fancy. We visited Evelyn’s Café, and while the place was nearly empty when we arrived, we still waited around a few minutes before anyone seated us. After ordering, we were brought an item we hadn’t asked for. We let the server know, and he said he’d check with the team. We never heard anything else about it — no update, no apology. We were served tea but with no sugar, even though the table next to us received theirs with sugar as standard. I had to ask for it. Throughout the visit, the server seemed far more attentive to the other tables around us — checking in regularly and even pouring their drinks — while we were mostly overlooked. Then came the bill. The item we hadn’t ordered (and had sent back) was still on there. Clearly, no one had followed up on the issue. We had to ask for it to be removed. I also asked for the optional service charge to be taken off, as the service we received was well below par, especially compared to others around us. Instead of just removing it quietly, the waiter made a point of asking — in front of everyone — whether there was an issue with the service. Not wanting to cause a scene, I just said no. From that moment, his attitude shifted entirely. The best way to describe it is like a child throwing his toys out of the pram — he became visibly stroppy and rude, which honestly just reinforced my decision not to leave a tip. This gentleman (barely) was clearly annoyed about not receiving a tip for sub-par service, but the business should be more concerned that I won’t be returning as a regular — and I won’t be recommending Evelyn’s to those around me either. Ironically, what would have been his tip ended up being a contribution to the next place we visited — where the service was genuinely warm, attentive, and worth every penny.

Favourite place to eat in Manchester! I come here a lot already for both brunch and dinner occasions, so it was my natural first choice when looking for a spot for 15 of us to dine at for our special occasion. As usual, both the food and the service were absolutely exceptional: FOOD We had the group dining menu with a selection of dips and (to die for) homemade pittas to start, then a variety of small plates to follow. For small plates, the portion sizes were great and we were absolutely stuffed by the end - notable faves were the babaghanoush, the skate, the hispi cabbage, and the chocolate dessert drizzled with olive oil. We also had a member of our group with coeliac disease, so we were delighted to find out almost every item on the menu was gluten free or had a gf alternative. SERVICE Leading up to the booking Ines and Callum were fantastic at communicating with us and answering any questions we had about the dinner. On the night we were served by Kai and Tom who went above and beyond to ensure we had a gorgeous evening. The team were so accommodating including total clarity and care around our dietary requirements and allergen flags, taking care of details to simplify payment for such a large group, and all round bringing warmth and friendliness to make our night so special. Also a special kudos to the chefs and bar staff making such incredible food and delicious cocktails/mocktails. We can't thank you all enough. We couldn't fault it, and are so grateful for the team for all of the effort and care to ensure we had the best time. We'll definitely be back asap!

Stumbled across this lovely little place for some brunch on a date day with my partner. We were looked after well by the nice tall guy. Best service we've had in a while whilst eating out (give him a raise). Food was delicious and the mushrooms on toast worked so well with the baba ganoush, yum! Loose leaf tea was delightful. Have recommended to friends and would love to visit again. Only slight grumble - would love to see tea cups where the handles are functional, i could even fit one finger through the handle! Not a major thing, and would still enjoy going back.

Very tasty food and so many gluten-free options! Was emphatically informed that everything on the menu was halal (went there because several reviews mentioned this too) but it would have been reassuring to see it advertised somewhere too. Service was friendly and caring, though information about allergens and portion sizes was a little confusing at times ("all the dishes are tapas-portions so we recommend getting a mix" vs "that dish is a main so you don't need other dishes"). The atmosphere was generally pretty good for a Saturday night i.e. lively chatter and the music wasn't too loud, though it was very smoky at first but that cleared up soon after.

Went for sunday lunch as a birthday catch up with family and was quite disappointed with the whole experience. Extremely hot in the resteraunt, air-conditioning was apparently on but not adequate for the 25 degree temps today. Then to add a lot of smoke coming out of the kitchen adding to the heaviness. Took away from the experience Was served pleasantly and adequately but the chefs had a bit of a mare it seems. Definetly refried fish and chips that was overly dry and peas didn't make it to the table for another 10 mins. 2 roast dinners, with again, way overcooked and reheated roast potatoes, impressive to get them so wrong. Puy lentil Wellington was great, a redeeming feature. Unfortunately cauli cheese was overall lacking cheese and seasoning. Servers did reduce the bill at end, but due to heat and hunger, didn't send anything back. Unfortunately won't go again, so many other great places for a roast in town.

Lovely little place! Nice decor, tasty food and very knowledgeable staff who were very helpful and attentive; offering to notify the chef to modify dishes for my nut allergy. Also whoever picks the music needs a pay rise because the tunes were on point! Whilst we were there a patron walked in stating that during their visit a few days ago they had forgotten to pay and came back to do so; that should tell you how good the food is here. Not cheap by any means but definitely worth the splurge.

Arrived to an empty restaurant bar two tables in the corner, seated us between the two occupied tables, about 10 inches from the other diners. Instantly felt somewhat uncomfortable. Menu was very narrow and somewhat obscure. Didn't seem to be much cohesion between any of the dishes. The hummus was nice, but the flatbread was greasy. Tuna was fine but didn't care for the sauce it was sat in. Fried chicken had a very odd texture but tasted ok. My friends lamb was fatty, not rendered down in the slightest, this was sent back. Staff were friendly and helpful but as our tables were so close together, whilst the lady was serving the adjacent table, her long hair rested on the top of our open water bottle! Sadly we are British and don't like to complain. We paid and left.

It was not a particularly pleasant morning for me and my friend. My friend ordered a cheeseburger and found the meat lacking in juiciness, with hardly any cheese flavour. I had a bite as well and could only taste a burnt flavour from the meat. I ordered the mushrooms on toast. Although I found it quite salty, I understand that taste is subjective, so it was still acceptable to me. Out of the three dishes we tried, the fried chicken burger was the best, but overall, it was nothing remarkable.

Initially I had chosen to dine at Evelyn’s due to the substantial positive reviews and the fact that they serve halal meat. There was a queue in front of us, lone diners and 2 groups of 3. Me and my friend were seated on the windows 3 minutes after entering the bustling restaurant. There was a nice uplifting vibe at Evelyn’s and everyone seems to be enjoying themselves. There was a full house and 2 waiters who were working ever so hard at midday. The staff were very helpful, assisted us with choosing our order. They also provided a fast and efficient service. I ordered mint tea and shakshuka with the optional extra of a lamb sausage. The mint tea was as expected; piping hot and I got about 3 cups out of the tea pot. This was the 2nd shakshuka I have ever had, and this was definitely a proper shakshuka. The tomato sauce was piping hot with a perfect consistency. The egg was cooked to perfection and had a dippy yolk. The feta cheese added a touch of creaminess to concoction. The lamb sausage along with the chickpeas and lamb sausage both had a light kick of chilli and were a lovely source of protein. The thick sliced bread was toasted and buttered just right snd perfect for dipping. Happy days. I will definitely be back again to try other items on the menu.

So disappointed in the Sunday lunch. The 2 slices of lamb were ok but it had gristle and I don’t want to chew my meat like a wine gum, the roast beef was much better. The Yorkshire pudding and gravy were very tasty as were the carrots however the paid side of cauliflower cheese would not be ordered again. The roast potatoes were not hot thank heavens for the warm gravy. I was looking forward to this place because of the rave reviews maybe it was an off day. As for the toilets they were disgustingly bad, sink filthy with toilet paper all over the floor, this is unacceptable, one but can’t help think how clean is it behind the scenes. I’m sure they won’t be concerned by one bad review but I will not be recommending this place. The food unmemorable, best thing was the conscientious staff.

The 3/5 for food - it's just a bit bland and 'ok' and plays it all very safe for a large price tag... Very happy we had the February discount as it makes us reconsider coming for dinner. Cocktails are just as good as there downstairs bar Evelyns. The burnt leek is outrageous for the price charged... it's just a bit of leek on a plate for £10.

The dinner menu was truly exceptional. The scallops were exquisite, and the fried courgette was sublime. While the roasted cauliflower was pleasant, it was the labneh and peanut tahini that truly captivated my palate. The service was outstanding, though the timing of the dishes could have been better coordinated; they arrived as soon as the chef finished preparing them, which slightly disrupted the harmony of the food pairings. The ambience was delightful, with warm, inviting lighting that created a perfect atmosphere. However, the tables were placed quite close together, making private conversations a bit of a challenge. The overall experience was unforgettable. The explosion of flavours and the innovative culinary combinations reignited my passion for dining out, reminding me why I love exploring new food experiences. It was, without a doubt, a truly memorable evening!

I had high hopes for this restaurant but unfortunately it ended up being one of the worst meals I have had. While the space itself is quite nice, the food and service left a lot to be desired. Our meal arrived cold and the fries were mostly oil, which I had to return. The rest of the food was unseasoned, making for a bland and disappointing service. The front of house staff were rude, which only made things worse. Definitely not worth the visit.

Wow !!! I couldn’t recommend Evelyn’s more, everything was brilliant. The food was unreal, we had hummus, fried chicken, sea bream, ceasar salad and the star of the show was the lamb chops! Flavours and portion size were so good. The service was also amazing, Tom was our waiter and he was so attentive - we’ll be back ✨

Great location slap bang in the middle of the northern quarter, this cosy modern cafe is warm and inviting - Think garden room meets pale boho styling. The service was very friendly, quick and no items missing from the menu. The dining area wasn't too crowded or noisy with easy listening background music. The menu was not overly complicated with good ingredients favoured in place of a vast selection. The bar is pretty well stocked. We tried the lavender lemonade which was silky yet refreshing. Overall feel; cosy and soft with a light warm glow, relax and unwind in style. In a word; homely

Stopped by for a Bloody Mary, the mushrooms on toast & a flat white this Tuesday. Each item was delicious but this is a special shout out for the EXCEPTIONAL service. Easy to impress once but to consistently impress on every visit is a huge credit. Amazing work guys, looking forward to the next trip already!

Preciosa comida, desayuno fresco, caliente, creativo.

We booked a table at 8:15pm on the 16th January. We arrived 5 minutes early for our table and our table wasn’t ready, instead of letting us sit at the side as there is no bar and we would have had a drink at the bar we were just stood like lemons in the restaurant with basically every diner looking at us. We had left a note on our booking saying bringing the dog, as they are dog friendly! We were finally seated, don’t give us a booking if the table isn’t ready or you don’t have a table for us. We were finally seated at 8:20. And left standing like idiots in the cold for 10 minutes, might not sound a lot but we were literally in the way and looking at everyone, coats on and dog in hand. Anyway, we sit down 3 seconds into getting the table, I was taking my coat off, and the manager comes across and extremely rudely tells me she can’t have a dog on the furniture. Our dog is an extremely well groomed toy maltipoo that was wrapped in a blanket, I was taking my coat off to then put the blanket on the floor for him to sit ON THE FLOOR. I wouldn’t ever let my dog sit in my place for dinner??? I was so shocked that you would advertise dog friendly, you could clearly see us stood there for quite a long time for me to sit down for 3 seconds to take my coat off and be told off by this awful manager. I was so annoyed I could have left then and there however we had booked and we do like to support hospitality in the city, and we had to give our card details to book the table so would have been charged for being spoken to like a child if we did leave. So we carry on with our dinner, and the food was vile. No salt on anything, the leeks, I have no words for how bad they were, the texture and then the dirt that was not washed off was too much. We are vegetarian and we tried every vegetarian dish and wish we hadn’t. There is no protein in any of the dishes for vegetarians and no complex carbs just vegetables, because we’ve not evolved in vegetarian cuisine. Don’t go here, rude, bad food and certainly not dog friendly. My dog sat on the floor on his blanket the whole meal and you wouldn’t have even known he was there. What a waste of an evening.

The best cappuccino I’ve had in Manchester during my short trip! Also the Vietnamese Ice Coffee was worth a try. The ambiance is beautiful and inviting—absolutely worth a visit. 5/5 stars!

Recommend in an online article when we're looking for a place for a weekday brunch. Seated quickly, well designed interior, food and hot drinks served quickly, ordered the evelyn cafe bar breakfast and the chicken egg bun, both delicious, excellent customer service, highly recommend, we will return later in the year.

I recently visited Evelyn’s in Manchester and enjoyed their vegan zattar mushrooms. The dish was flavorful and well-prepared, making it a solid option for vegan diners. However, I was a bit disappointed that the vegan version is priced the same as the regular option, even though it doesn’t include the egg. Adjusting the price to reflect the reduced ingredients would be a fair improvement. That said, Evelyn’s is a lovely spot to catch up with a friend, especially in the colder months when its warm and cozy atmosphere is particularly inviting. Despite the pricing quibble, it’s a great place to relax and enjoy a meal.

Basura absoluta. Basura absoluta basura.

Lovely atmosphere. Slow service. Food is inoffensive but not tasty... and definitely not worth the price. Soup of the day today was butternut squash. It didn't appear to be flavoured with anything except olive oil. The vegetarian english breakfast was well presented but again, lack lustre for the price and associated wait time.
