I spoke to the owners via Facebook messenger to arrange a visit initially for 4 people. I told him I had a wowcher deal voucher and he asked me for the codes .which I gave him over messenger. The next day I added another wowcher deal so that two more friends could join and confirmed with the owner . But on the morning of the visit two of my party were poorly and unable to come .I messaged them at 8 am advising them that the last wowcher wouldn't be needed and apologised . When we arrived, we were seated at what can only be described as an unstable formica card table. We were right next to the door on a cold damp September day, so we shut the door. But that only made the 'cafe' steam up and enclose the smell of well done bacon and sausages. If we were popping in for a quick bite to eat like a bacon butty or a cake thats fine but it really isn't the environment for an afternoon tea. The afternoon tea eventually came on missmatching cake stands and our cuppa came in a cup , no saucer . There wasn't enough room on our table to place both plate stands so one couple had to balance theirs on a babies high chair that was near our table . The finger sandwiches consisted of Ham and Mustard and cheese and pickle .OK but not much variety .we got half a standard sausage roll each . Mine was cold but my friends was warm ,home made jam tarts that looked like a child had made . Chocolate brownie pieces, home made flapjacks ( more seeds than anything else ) a plain scone each, a tiny pot of butter, jam and clotted cream . Not enough cream for 4 people and lastly a slice of fruit cake. We made the best of the situation and my friends company outweighed everything else . The young girl was friendly enough and made sure we had a supply of tea and coffee .included in the wowcher deal was a glass of ginand mixer but we had to ask for it and I'm sure we wouldn't of received them if I hadn't asked .on a final note , when I came to redeem my third unused wowcher I was unable to because it had already been cashed in . I have messaged the owner to clear up this matter but as yet not heard back but early days . We travelled from the other side of Manchester to have this afternoon tea but unfortunately won't be returning

This is Didsbury's best coffee. A strong extra shot americano. Smooth and essential to start my day. The cakes are excellent and home made, and the music is unobtrustive and intelligent. Sometimes service can be a bit slow, but with the provision of daily papers (the only place in Didsbury to provide these), unless you are really hurrying, this is a great choice. lovely Eccles cakes, chocolate cake, excellent fruit cake and the sausage butties are the best with sausages from Axons of Didsbury.

Disappointed. I took a friend for afternoon tea, we sat near the front of the cafe as I felt the other tables/chairs looked less inviting. I could see dust/dirt behind the counter and on the edge of the counter which was a bit worrying . The afternoon tea hadn't cost much compared to some others and was okay, the scones were very nice, but the sandwiches boring - ham or cheese only. I did pay for a second pot of tea which often is included elsewhere if required. We weren't offered coffee at all so not sure if that was included. Sorry but I won't be returning.

Please read full post for fairness and allow you to make a judgement. Had the afternoon tea delivered as a gift, the food was delicious, put together lovely - highly recommend this company. After receiving the second afternoon tea due to a muck up dates, we were so looking forward to it. Sadly, we were missing, the jam, cream and butter for the scones, which took the shine of it. (Which then us not a cream tea) When I contacted the company I got no response whatsoever - disappointed

Went for afternoon tea and it was the worst I have ever had, food was awful cakes not nice. Table dirty. Service was rubbish had to ask for basics like plates and cutlery. Atmosphere non existent. Also ordered a sandwich as extra to the afternoon tea and they took so long making it we had finished with the afternoon tea before it arrived. No offers on refills on the tea/coffee either like you get everywhere else. Just so disappointing as I had brought it as a Christmas pressie for my mum. It isn’t somewhere you want to go for afternoon tea there are a lot nicer places so would avoid. Feel like I have completely wasted my money and spoilt my mums Christmas gift.

Surprised at the rather unforgiving negative reviews here as we had a great experience at this cafe. The food was high quality and fresh, the cakes were home made and very good. The loose leaf tea blend was great, which isn't always the case - I can't comment on the coffee, but nothing to worry about if you're a tea drinker. Staff were attentive and jazzy music played in the background at a pleasant level. We came here as the (busier) place next door seemed to have an attitude problem (staff greeted us then ignored us), place had a slightly up its own backside feel. We were glad we moved as we had a much better experience here at Appleby's and even bought some yummy fruit cake to take away.

I don't like writing bad reviews and it was a nice enough little cafe with home made cakes and tasty scones but they do not accommodate nut allergy suffers. I booked an afternoon tea and stated on the phone that I had a nut allergy and was told they don't have any cakes with nuts and when i arrived I reminded them but was presented with 2 cakes that 'have nuts in but actually might not have' they didn't seem sure if they were made with nuts or just oats. Something as minor as a nut cake touching another item of food which I may eat could be fatel. Usually when I tell people of my nut allergy they wouldn't then put a nutty cake on the plate I'm eating off and instead swap it for a nut free option however this wasn't the case there and I didn't feel 100% comfortable eating them and even had to ask them if they could give me an item of food that wasn't touching the cake that may or may not have nuts in. For people with no allergies it's fine here but for me unfortunately I wouldn't feel comfortable returning 😕

We had breakfast there this morning, for the first time and sadly, also the last. The food was fantastic…Good Quality, Plentiful and Reasonably priced for the area…. but the coffee. Sadly, that was DREADFUL. I ordered a latte but the milk foam was extremely bitter coffee tasting (and dark brown)… and the coffee itself was equally bitter and unpleasant, because, well, they may claim a ‘high roast’ but no, that was just BURNT. And when I commented that I was unable to drink it, the service I received was disgraceful. Sadly the staff left as bitter a taste in my mouth as the coffee did. Needs a massive rethink.

I come into Appleby's on a daily basis. It's an oasis of calm with cool music gently playing and here I have an extra shot Americano. Smooth, strong and infinitely superior to any of the chains - or the other independents. When I said yep because it tasted weird she just went and got me a different glass and poured the cola from the dirty one into it. Then after a long wait what was supposed to be a vegan sausage sandwich arrived, bacon and meat sausage. They didn't seem bothered at all and seemed genuinely surprised when I asked for a refund for my sandwich because I didn't want to wait another half an hour for the correct one to be made at that point. The service here was absolutely terrible, there were two members of staff on in what is quite a small cafe and no one even said hello. We were the only people in there. Both members of staff seemed extremely inexperienced and lacked very basic customer service. Our order was taken and half of the food arrived. Another gentleman appeared to make the food and support the inexperienced staff. He then left after he thought we had been given our order. We waited a little longer and no other food arrived at our table. We asked where it was and no one seemed to know. We were informed that it wasn’t coming, at this point everyone else had finished eating so we just decided to leave. No one working there really seemed to care or have any idea what was going on. The whole experience was pretty appalling and for what is essentially a greasy spoon that lacks in basic service standards, I would say over priced. I would never return here and would not recommend this cafe.

So if you feel the need to get away from the hustle and bustle of Didsbury pop in here . From the warm welcome and the rustic feel , wooden floor and a bit of a wobble on my table you will enjoy your visit . From the massive range of teas , I think China will be asking for then back. From the array of all the homemade cakes , you will be loosening your belt, or enjoy your frisk walk home . Very ambient music to chill too, so if you need some quiet me time I suggest like me come lunch time , I've walked last it on the evening and looks busy . There is even a tiny bar selection , more like a long shelf of wines, spirits and bottle beers. So a lot of choice depending on your mood. I chose a latte and well might be smaller than you expected if going to a high street brand , but wow it was the business . There is a very large food menu you might expect from a larger establishment , but I guess it bit like the tardis , don't judge it from the outside , it has lots too offer .If you feeling like buying some art work , well you can here too, all snapped by a traveller who toured the world for 2 years , he has a good outlook and I enjoy the read of his travels when sipping my coffee . Would I come here again yes , I like too experience it on a busy night .

The food is of good quality with the bacon sourced from the local butcher. We go there every second or third Saturday morning for a relaxing read of the paper. This cafe doesn't have the snazzy, hip feel of some of the cafe / brunch place es in Didsbury but it has something else that is much more valuable - the sense that the food is made with love.

On a whim, stopped at Applebys for a hearty full English. Excellent throughout. If the weather's nice and there's room, sit outside, but watch for the sloping tables! Recommend the full English with a pot of tea! Nice proper bread, well toasted, presented nicely with small pots of butter, jam, marmalade. Lovely full English (they do a 'skinny' version with one sausage and one bacon rasher) which I couldn't finish...should have gone for the skinny! Only issue is parking. There isn't any. You'll have to park on one of the side streets a bit further away from Didsbury centre. The closer you get to the centre, the harder it is to park...Overall, highly recommended.

I had the pleasure on Latte and a lovely piece of Victoria Sponge from Appleby,s last weekend on a lovely warm afternoon. Nicely situated on Barlow Moor Road the restaurant has plenty of local competition but based on my experience of Coffee and Cake you would have to travel far and wide to experience better. Pleasant young staff, funky surroundings and great food, The best eating experience I have had in Didsbury by far - Well worth a visit.

We spend an enormous amount of money on our cappuccinos but you have never had a cappuccino as good as the cappuccino at Applebys. It is perfect!! Amazing coffee and exactly the right froth consistency. if there were (and there should be) the Uk's best cappuccino then this is where it is, no doubt. As well as it being a wonderful cafe run by super friendly people.

Visited at 3pm on a Saturday expecting the lunchtime rush to be over. Even though only half the tables were occupied, we waited almost an hour for the food and people at other tables had arrived after us and got served before us.Staff apologised & offered free drinks but what they really need to do is get a proper system in place so that the wait staff & the kitchen know which orders are still outstanding.

Someone posted a competition on Twitter and I ended up liking the page. I then found them on Facebook. They post and tweet a lot, which raised their profile for me. They advertised Afternoon Tea for Valentine's Day and I was looking for somewhere to go midweek with my daughter.I booked afternoon tea and what a delight it turned out to be. I love afternoon tea and have had some bad ones - this was particularly good - sandwiches, cakes and scones, plentiful and delicious. The counter was full of lovely food as well. The scones we had, the jam tarts and cornflake cake all looked homemade. On the way out we noticed some tempting looking meringues and I wish I had bought one now.The young lad who served us was friendly, helpful and charming. A great little place that you need to try!

I have to rate this as the best afternoon tea I have ever had. We were offered a choice of tea or coffee which arrived nice and hot. Sandwiches were freshly made on 'proper' bread cut in dainty squares - egg mayonnaise and cucumber; fresh warm scones with individual servings of butter, jam and clotted cream; home made lemon curd tart, chocolate cornflake cake and an enormous wedge of homemade cake each. Their chocolate cake is absolutely amazing!!!! A regular favourite, so nice to find somewhere that sells delicious homemade cakes and bakery items.

We had lunch here and it was delicious. We were very impressed by the sandwiches and English tea. The atmosphere was cosy and relaxed. I think it will become a regular haunt for us. We can't wait to go back and try more of the menu.

Just off the main High Street is the family run Appleby's. Small inside and a quirky style. A family run business with everything prepare and made by themselves. A charming waitress who told me that she is a student at Mcr University. Noah who prepared our drinks is part of the family. Chatting with him, he takes a delight in giving great service. Excellent coffee and very good sausage sandwich also my wife who had bacon. The tea pot was unusual and my wife struggled a little to pour. A touch of confusion from the young man who brought our food out. But hey, it was fun! It really warrants a 4.5*! Well done and thanks.

Had the club sandwich & a splendid pot of tea - the sandwich was to die for and on the way out I spotted a coffee cake so will be back to try that! The cafe and staff are lovely and a great addition to the Didsbury scene. Definitely recommend!

I've been there with my girlfriend just to try a different place for an English Breakfast. The place doesn't have many place to sit, is quite small and even if the service was fine unfortunately the food is nothing of special for that price. You can find better places in Didsbuy.I understand the organic and 100% use of British local ingredients but when the plate is serve in front of you , is just disappointing for taste and portions

Called in for a quick sandwich and coffee at 12 on a Sunday. Staff very friendly, flat white coffee very good and sandwiches very tasty however the slow service let them down. Home made tarts look fantastic

We chose to visit this cafe for lunch after reading the excellent tripadvisor reviews - and we were not disappointed. Topping the list of positives would have to be the service - we were immediately welcomed, the two young men behind the counter were helpful and positive, and our meals came out in good time. The cafe is clean and attractively decorated; it is a fairly small space with a limited number of tables, but there was no problem getting a good table on a Wednesday lunchtime at 1pm. We appreciated the newspapers available for us to read, and there is free wifi should you need it. A wide range of sweet options are displayed on the countertop, and the printed menu contains a good choice of savoury items, especially sandwiches. Our lunch was excellent value - the £4.50 special deal allows you to choose a drink, sandwich and sweet treat. I chose a coffee, one of their very tasty and generous club sandwiches, and a small lemon tart - all for £4.50. The coffee was slightly disappointing, with very little flavour, but I couldn't fault the food. Situated just around the corner from the busier main street in a group of eateries, the cafe is in a relaxed and appealing area and well worth a visit.

Latte are too expensive especially with alternative milk. Toilet smells always bad, sometimes the smell come outside the toilet, it's embarrassing, they should use toilets products. For the service and quality it's fine but the new staff always had a problem making foam, it's frustrating

This is the most welcoming bar in Chorlton! Staff are great, the people are great, the music/DJ’s are great and the drinks are cheap. What more do you want from a bar? Every time I come I meet new people, make great friends and have a laugh. Jam Street never disappoints!
