called in to grab something to take home for lunch. Evans is ‘famous ‘ for its Chelsea buns so grabbed one and a savoury roll.Service prompt but no hint of a smile ,don’t know if the lady serving was having a bad life(always had this style of service from her for a number of years) Really off putting-failed charm school obviously then to add the icing on top of this bitter cake the Chelsea bun dry and stale whilst the chicken roll full of cranberry sauce and very very little meat.My advice shop elsewhere-better service, better quality and can use cards as Evans only take cash under £5 sales(not convenient at times)

By recommendation I visited this establishment just to buy a cake. My wife and I have lived in Wales for nearly 40 years, and I can honestly say that in all that time I have never received such a miserable and poor service. The cake was lovely, such a shame about the miserable person. Hopefully life isn’t so bad for them?

You can get your mains from the Sandwich shop and dessert from here, they do a decent roll, but their best product is the cakes. You'll be missing out if you stick to a chain takeout store as they neither make as good sandwiches, cakes or pastries. and in the end, you'll have a high street that's identical to any other without individuality and it's the local suppliers who'll lose out

I had some mince pies gifted to me from a friend after I shared my quest of finding the very best mince pies. I think I may have just found them!!!! They are made with love at Evans Cafè ! They are packaged in a lovely Christmas box and there were 6 large mince pies in there. The pastry was light and crumbly and they were generously filled with a sweet mince inside. It was a close your eyes moment and I'm not sure I can go back to regular mince pies now, nor would I want to. Amazingly spoilt by your culinary genius 👏 I would travel across the County for these! And I dodnt take a pic because they didn't last long enough. But trust me, I'm a mince pie connoisseur.

Went all four of us for a cup of tea and a bite to eat. Toasties and prawn sandwich, very tasty all of them. We asked for decaffeinated tea and the lady told us she could not find any but she could go out and buy some for us!! How kind is that. Never ever heard that before, very touching. We said normal tea will work fine. I will never forget what the gentle lady said. She had a touch many of us lack today. God bless her. If we ever come back to Newtown we will pay cafe Evans another visit and hope she is still working.

The cafe is a bakery store to the front and cafe in the back, so much of what you can order is on view as you walk in. The bread is soooo good, though it won't last long due to lack of preservatives (a good thing, imo). The cakes are also very good; this tends to be the locals' go-to for quality baked goods. The cafe in the back is basic but the standard of the food makes up for it.

Went in yesterday, decided to get us both a milkshake. It was rank. Just syrup with milk. Not blended with ice or ice cream or anything, just cheap pre made mix. Not what you’d expect to pay c£3 for. The milk used hadn’t been in the fridge either so just had a room temperature glass of milk basically. Really disappointed.

After a period of not going to Evans Cafe I returned. My absence was because I got fed up with one grumpy member of staff. She never said Good Morning and it felt that she rather I didn't order anything. However on my last two recent visits she was not there and so it was good to see smiling and welcoming faces. I arrived before 7 am (which makes it one of the first places to offer breakfast early in Newtown) collecting a paper from the nearby newsagent. Wetherspoons at the Blackboy open at 8am. Although more expensive than the Blackboy the breakfast is better and more flavoursome and is cooked to order and piping hot. A full breakfast with toast and a cup of tea is £6.99. A great treat to start a busy day.

While sightseeing in the town centre it became apparent that we were in for a serious rainfall. We decided to have a coffee at the Evans Cafe. It is a marvelous establishment. It was packed, but it is a very friendly place and is obviously very popular with those who live in the area. Our coffee was very good, and the service was courteous and prompt. We weren't there for a meal, but their food selection was very extensive and very attractively done, and their pastries were selling rapidly while we were there. Popped in with my daughter for a quick cuppa before work. Price was good. Drinks available in small, medium and large so everyone should be catered for, but I was upset with the quality of the drinks.I had a black coffee, which tasted metallic, not usual for Segfreddo (spelling??) brand coffee. The hot chocolate was......bizarre. It seemed to consist of a drop of chocolate, topped up with hot milk (which the remainder of the milk was then used to make a milky coffee for the next customer) and then topped off powdered chocolate. Except this powdered chocolate wasn't dusted on as it should be, but literally dumped on....to the point where instead of drinking it, my daughter practically CHEWED though the "dusting" of chocolate I would ask that the staff perhaps practice making hot chocolate before they sell anymore.

Evans is the favourite locally for good quality cakes, breads and pies/ pasties. Their bread and cakes are delicious, but on the expensive end of the spectrum. A case of, you get what you pay for. I use them occasionally when I'm feeling flush! I have found the pasties a little too pastry-heavy, with less filling than I'd like to balance out the dryness, but that's personal preference.Earlier this month I dropped in at lunchtime with my husband for a drink and a cake. We found a table near the back of the shop. From the front of the store you can't tell, but we found the café part to be very run down, and there was a really odd smell back there. It put me off my food. It's a shame, because the quality of the food is generally so good, the shabbiness lets it down. If they don't know you, the staff can also be quite surly. Time for an upgrade, Evans, please.

Evans' Cafe is delightfully wonderful when wanting to fix that craving for sweet things or for some comfort food. Having sampled many delights from their bakery, I can soundly say that theirs is one of the best restaurants for fresh food in town. However, there are some downsides, the main one being the size of the place - at times, especially with a rucksack on your back, it can be a little tough to navigate your way without bumping into fellow patrons of the cafe. Secondly, when eating in, the price increase can border on the extortionate, though, if you've got more than a handful of money to spend, it is easily one of the most quaint places in Newtown to enjoy a cup of something hot and a good catch up or gossip with friends!

Friendly, polite efficient service, and best of all, FRESH tasty ingredients - fragrant fresh bread and sandwiches well filled! Mum and I had a great lunch yesterday, and the tea was perfect too!

Found this cafe on line, glad we did, the guys were so welcoming, even the dog was welcomed in. We both had the big cooked breakfast, wow, it’s not very often I actually enjoy a cooked breakfast but this was amazing, really good quality ingredients cooked perfectly. We’d happily go back.

Passing through on a biking challenge over the weekend we found this cosy authentic welsh pub. The staff were incredibly welcoming, the beer selection was perfect and they couldn’t do more for us! Would definitely return if in the area again!

Whilst I usually promote Deli-Licious as a good place to go if you have a Gluten Free (GF) diet, I was recently disappointed by their GF afternoon tea. I was pleased to hear they offered a GF afternoon tea but was left feeling let down by the poor selection and presentation. The normal afternoon tea was presented on either a picnic bench or a three tiered serving stand, mine was just put on a plate with no effort to make it look like everyone else’s in the group, making me feel like an outcast. At a cost of £16.95, it certainly wasn’t value for money.

The best breakfast for a Good 15 miles, honestly cannot fault it. Cooked to order every time and super tasty. No dried up bacon or tinned mushrooms here thanks!
