I have stayed at Ethos twice to do some research at the Bodleian Library. It's wonderfully located, with accommodating rooms and an excellent included breakfast. My major complaint concerns the fact that due to the fire at Heathrow airport and consequent cancellation of my flight, I was unable to arrive at Ethos for the first night of my booking. I would consider a major fire that disrupted air travel worldwide an "act of God," but Ethos did not. First, the woman with whom my husband and I spoke after we arrived (over 24 hours late) told us that we'd be charged the full amount for the night in which we did not stay in the room. Then she volunteered that we would only be charged 50% for the night we did not stay in the room. We were profusely grateful. But now that I am back in the USA and dealing with my bills, I see that no reimbursement of the full charge (which I paid in advance) was ever issued. I have been very happy with the Ethos Hotel and I'm disappointed to be charged for a night in which I was not in the hotel due to a major fire at Heathrow (not my fault!) and; even more, to have been apparently falsely told that the charge would be halved. This doesn't seem like ideal treatment and it's not a great inducement to return. I'm not a wealthy traveler and, again, obviously, I had no control over the hotel fire. Hotel Ethos should perhaps make it more explicit that they will not issue refunds or half-refunds even in the event of catastrophic emergencies. (And I'm sorry that the USA is run by a thug whom I did not vote for and whom I'm protesting against, but that still does not make me rich.)

I took my best friend for a surprise high tea at Cafe Ethos today March 31st for her 70th birthday. It was an amazing experience, from the lovely greeting on our arrival to the most fabulous high tea I have ever had, beautifully presented, gorgeous selection and so very fresh. I have taken several friends there for their special occasions, it has always been enjoyable but this was the BEST ever. I can't thank the staff enough, my friend said she will never forget it and took several pictures. Many thanks for a fantastic afternoon. Julie Weller

Not the 4star it claims to be. Had to pay £150 damage waiver. Car park cost £30 per night but they let you purchase food in cafe with £20 of this fee, making the car park £10. Never heard anything like this arrangement. We opted for the park & ride instead. Room as basic as you can get, slightly grubby, curtain hooks missing, no nets, so had to keep curtains closed, bedside light not working. To cap it all, we discovered there was no hot water and no heating, which weren't fixed till we were about to leave. One sheet and a thin blanket was all the bedding they provided so I had to cover the bed with my coat. Was given a 50%refund, but book here at your peril. I definitely won't be coming back.

Great location and very good value. Central heating was poor in our room (did not get above 18). Parking expensive (forcing credits for using in cafe)

29 pounds parking. ridiculously slow check in. Not in hotel but in a converted house close by. On a back street. Very expensive for what it is. Couldn't recommend

Had the pleasure of staying four nights at the Ethos Hotel & Café while attending a training course outside Oxford. Rooms were nice and had everything you needed for a regular stay. Breakfast was very tasty and was freshly made each day with a nice selection of fruits and yoghurts. If I'm ever going to Oxford again, I'll be staying here again.

Never, never again! Luckily we were only there for one night but we have never seen such a bad hotel in our entire life. Really musty room in the basement that smelled of mold and sewage. Even though the room itself may be renovated, the mold is in the walls, the bathroom - see photos! It is a complete impudence to even offer such a thing! 1 star is already too much! We left the house in a hurry in the morning and continued traveling!

Great location, 10 minute walk from the centre. Parking is available but you have to pay for it even though it implies it is included in the overall price on booking. com Our room was clean, had a fridge and a kitchenette as my partner called it. Breakfast is excellent, I had the full English one morning and smashed avacado with poached eggs the next, my partner had truffled eggs. Everything tastes good, even the mushrooms were fried as opposed to being boiled which you get everywhere. Poached eggs were lovely and runny. Breakfast is usually served in the cafe opposite but it was closed so breakfast was brought to the room. Service was good the young lad and lady we dealt with were polite, friendly, helpful and accomodating. Would recommend staying at the Ethos Hotel.

Hello , We stayed two nights. Very friendly reception lady on arrival who also served the meals/drinks in the evening. Breakfast lady just as good, both mornings. Spacious room with kitchenette. Parking outside hotel but only four car spaces. Overflow secured parking about 100 yards away. The receptionist showed us to parking as next road over. Very good of her. Parking charge of £29 per night seemed expensive but we received £20 per day room credit, which went toward the Food /drinks cost. Oxford City centre easy 15 mins walk away.

I had a good time at Ethos, it was near everywhere I wanted to visit and the bus lines were less than 5 minutes away. Dogs were welcome at the hotel which was definitely a plus for me. I was there during the storm this past weekend (BERT) which was unfortunate but the hotel stay made up for it. I wanted to praise Bushra (Front Desk) for her kindness and positive attitude. She always had a ready smile for all the guests and cared for them. She single handedly managed most of the guests at breakfast time. I hope someone from the Ethos Hotel is reading this and will appreciate Bushra’s efforts.

Such friendly and helpful staff made our stay here welcoming. Our first room was on the stairs by the kitchen and this made it noisy with sounds of dishwasher, pots pans etc being cleaned till 11pm. However when we asked the next day, we were given a new room in the separate block over the road which was much nicer. Breakfasts (included in the price) were generous and plenty of choice of foods available. It is a shortish walk to town, 20 minutes to Ashmolean museum. If we ever return to Oxford then we would definitely stay here again.

Positives: plenty of space, comfy beds, very helpful staff, enormous TVs if you like that kind of thing. Parking not too expensive. Negatives: was a basement apartment, hence a bit damp, but we managed to turn on heating in the end. Also there was no choice but to pay for parking, because the area is impossible! Overall pretty decent.

Stayed at the Ethos Hotel for one night on business. The hotel is quite hidden in a residential area and can only be reached via fairly narrow streets. But you can book a parking space, which is worth a lot in Oxford. My room in the building next door was clean and attractive. Room had air conditioning and fridge. Ethos Caffee/Bar offers Italian food, wine and cocktails. The old town can be reached on foot in about 10 minutes. I would happily recommend the hotel.

This is not a 4 star hotel, you have to go up a very narrow staircase to the rooms, the rooms are small and for breakfast if you wanted scrambled egg or omelette you had to pay extra.

Had the best roast with friends yesterday on a day trip to Oxford - very cosy atmosphere in a really central part of the city. We were served by Lucy who was lovely :) highly recommend if you fancy a wholesome Sunday lunch!

Services was okay, the guys was rushing for us to order and waiter will come over to keep the rice bucket even before we finish the food and will scoop the rice for you. Sweet and sour pork the best I would say. Others are still okay.
