Esquires Coffee in Wandsworth

Coffee was served cold, asked to remake and nothing changed. Smoothie was really watery too, expected it to be on the thicker side. Poor experience unfortunately.

Had egg florentine and eggs royal. Spinach not cooked and hollandaise sauce tasted like it was out of a packet. Dropped my knife on the floor and when I went to pick it up it was covered in hairs .very dirty floors and overpriced

I was loyal to this place for 10 years. I really hope one day owner or who ever runs Esquires franchaise will bring good staff like before.. I never complain but seems like there is no manager, no one is in charge, no rules, staff unacceptable appearance, not wearing approns and loose hairs.. I had brown long hair in my take away. More important for staff is chat in the kitchen instead of taking care of customers. Please fix this place, first step - find good manager. This is the worst time this shop ever had.

The best coffee shop in Balham. Can highly recommend the large Mocha .....mmmmmmm. super staff and prompt yet friendly service. Refreshing change from Starbucks.

Very impressed. I was in a hurry for a train - didn't explain that wrongly- got a bit worried about having long enough to eat my eggs on toast. Very apologetic about their service. No need. I will be back next time I come down south. Best wishes Graham

Very disappointing, I used to come here all the time as it is one coffee shops in Balham you can take dogs into and the atmosphere is really lovely. However, after today’s experience I won’t be going back again. The coffee was undrinkable so I had to leave it. It was luke warm milk, worst than high street chains by a long mile. I went politely to let the girl know behind the till, she was extremely rude and her answer was that’s what a cappuccino is!! in an extremely belittling manner and said she will put it in the microwave. I felt like saying have you been to Italy? Or even down the road to brick wood or Hyde farm but I didn’t feel it was worth it. They have just lost a number of customers, not due to the coffee as such, but because of the very poor customer service.

Decaf flat white - disappointing, no taste/flavour, was basically hot milk

Came here for the first time to do some admin with my partner. Originally wet to hildreth street which was rammed with queues to get anywhere. Found this place and it was like I could breathe. It was pleasantly buzzing but not packed to the gills so it was actually enjoyable. The staff were above and beyond friendly and helpful. The chai latte was delish. Would happily come back here to avoid the weekend chaos of Hildreth street for super friendly staff and relaxing atmosphere.

A classic cafe, serving good quality coffees and pastries.

Very unimpressed. Service was poor. I walked in intending to have a breakfast, told the staff on shift I was intending to eat in the cafe (it was completely dead), yet, I was asked to pay for drinks first before ordering food. I then had to go to the counter to get my drinks rather than them be brought over while I was literally one of two people in the cafe. I wasn’t given a menu after 10 minutes drinking my OJ and coffee, and now I’m not going to bother getting breakfast here after all.

My favourite place to come for a relax and a tasty lunch. Always welcomed with smiles by the lovely ladies. I would definitely give 5🌟 but it can get very hot sitting in by lunch time

Bad brunch/breakfast (wouldn't recommend), cakes and pastries are ok. Coffee is generally poor - more milk than coffee. Shame as its such a nice place and well located!

Friendly staff. Even with kids and dogs. The only problem...too hot. No air conditioning.

Rude and abrupt staff member ( on the till) had to ask her colleague to close the door as she point blank refused for her own comfort . She then insisted on asking who asked for the door to be closed loudly to show she’s not happy. Not great value for money either for the food. 2 stars only as the decor is nice. No gluten free options or attempt to offer something that might work for somebody with coeliac. Just general training of staff wouldn’t go amiss. Used to come here by the after this experience will sadly not be returning

If you like hot milk with hardly any taste of coffee then their cappuccino is perfect for you. Customer service non existent and absolutely no atmosphere. Much better coffee places in Balham - won’t be back.

Came here early on a Monday morning for breakfast whilst I got some work done. This place does seem to get busy early so probably best to get there early. The coffee is mediocre; I find it particularly ridiculous when shops charge additional (50p) for alternative milk. The pancakes with maple bacon were just not very good. Thin, starchy, and then somehow soggy because they were soaked in maple syrup.

I had a terrible experience at this cafe. My partner and I purchased breakfast and drinks with the intention of doing some work on our laptops. After ordering, the waitress unapologetically told 4 customers (basically the only ones in the cafe) that they don’t allow laptops on weekends. However other customers were arriving and using their laptops and not being told the same thing. The staff were rude. I could have made the breakfast better myself. The egg for my smashed avo came out after the meal and my partners hash brown (which they forgot) was rushed and soggy. I will never return again.

Love coming here for a weekend brunch. A lovely, cosy cafe with friendly and welcoming staff. They serve a wide range of hot and cold drinks with loads of pastries and cakes on offer. It's dog friendly and sell cards and gifts as well!

Went in here to have a cuppa before going back to work. Don't expect much from a coffee shop, simply put a good cuppa and a clean table. The Gen Z worker was extremely put out to make a pot of rooibos tea. It must have been tiring for her to come back to the till and get a receipt. Let alone to be bothered to clean all the stuck on food left at the only table available in the place. After that she was much to busy on her phone to clean anything. Thank god a new member of staff entered and actually did something. When I cannot put my hand on the table for fear of getting stuck, I will not be back

Un locale davvero originale, si trova a Bhalam, quartiere a sud di Londra. Praticamente un mix tra la classica caffetteria italiana, un bar, assomiglia molto ad alcuni locali newyorkesi, in cui si può stare a bere un buon cappuccino mentre si è collegati al WiFi, insieme ai propri bambini o amici. Ben curato, personale gentile e simpatico, accessibile, si trova vicino a stazione dei treni e metropolitana ed un parcheggio. Prezzi nella media, cappuccino buono! Brave😉

Basic food, I wouldn’t bother eating here. Had a full english and got one slice of bacon.

My favourite coffee shop as well as my local coffee shop! It's cute and quirky, and serves a great selection of coffee, pastries and cakes. I'm not sure what it is, but they bake their pain au raisin / chocolate to perfection; never dry, always moist and chewy. They also have a simple selection of light meals; I highly recommend the vegan sausage roll (amazingly, better than 95% of real sausage rolls you'll buy) which comes with a fresh salad. The lovely ladies who serve you are never without a smile, and have become part of my daily / weekly routine. Highly recommended for anytime coffee, light lunch, or a remote working spell (please don't have your meetings here though; it's annoying!). Final bonus feature; it also has a cute paved back garden area, which is perfect in the summer months. On second thoughts, don't come here; I want it all for myself 😂

Recently had lunch here...lovely food/atmosphere and location

I used to go to this cafe every day but after my experience the other day I am shocked and sad. The manager was so rude to me when they had made a mistake with my order, tried to tell me (as a vegetarian) that i had ordered the normal sausage roll when in fact I asked for the vegan. I understand the staff member serving me may have been new - that is completely understandable but to not apologise to me and to treat me like I've ruined their day was unacceptable. I was a loyal customer and now I will be going elsewhere.

Really nice cafe, and the coffee & walnut cake was really one of the best cakes I've ever tasted. I'll come back for that. I really wish however that they had all of the items on their menu available. All they had available when I visited was their coffee and the cakes they had on display. I've only visited once so maybe this was a one off but still, I was expecting to try more than just their cake.

Warning for all vegans and dairy free: I ordered the last slice of vegan cake on display for £5.50 ( similar slice size as the cappuccino gluten-free cake). The staff gave me less than half of the slice as per photo. I questioned why it was so small compared to other cakes - to which se replied vegan cakes are very expensive and that's what I get. It was the most expensive cake on display (gluten free was cheaper) and all I got was a thin slice. The strange thing was - she didn't return the "rest of the slice" to the display. Did she eat it? Very odd!! I've eaten vegan cakes all over London and I've never seen that - it's always a normal slice of cake - and I've never paid more than £5. Apart from that, the latte was lukewarm - it got cold very quickly. It get two stars because the cake was tasty and it's a cute little cafe. Avoid this place if you don't like to get ripped off

This is a new find for us.. Great coffee, nice buzz to the place.. In fact I may go have lunch there today.. Vegan sausage rolls were a bit of a find (my wife didn't warn me and I didn't know until after.. Well worth a try).. Overall great place

BAD EXPERIENCE. I could clearly hear the staff talking and laughing about me while I was in the cafe. This made me feel very uncomfortable and I won't be recommending this place to anyone. Prior to this the woman who served us was very cold and uninterested and asked us to wait so that we could take our own coffees to the garden, even though there was hardly anyone in the shop. This was on 20/06/21 in the morning.

The best thing about this place is the location and decor. I like sitting here and working. The only café we found open on Boxing Day after a hectic day of shopping we wanted to sit down in peace and have coffee and cakes. This was just the place. However I don't like the coffee (not artisan or smooth) and staff were not that friendly. On other occasions when I visited recently, coffee was served in paper cups just because they were closing in 30mins,which was not appropriate. They could have mentioned that and I would not had coffee on that occasion. I only found out after I had already paid!!

I was excited to go into this coffee shop as I liked the look of it. Coffee quality was bad, there wasn't anything special about the caramel shortbread I had, pastries as well.. but what I was most disappointed of was the customer service. Absolutely zero people skills. No offered help, no explanation of anything, there's your coffee and done. Even though me and my friend definitely showed an interest of all products. Very disappointed. Made me sad.

Croissant tasted like plastic and clearly store bought. No spoon with my tea to.

Avarage coffee. They offer cakes but nothing too special. Enjoyed the seats outside however you can only have take away coffee cups and not proper ones. Wouldn’t come back for that reason.

Benefits from the charm (the shop itself) of the previous owners but lacks any of their service, finesse or quality - a shame. Balham isn’t so busy or transient that you see the customer as a £-sign.

I used to go to Esquires Coffee when it was called Lavish Habit. It still is my favourite coffee shop in Balham- friendly staff, good coffee, nice breakfast menu and quirky decor.

They had a great selection of teas, coffee, and milkshakes. The cake selection was also good and reasonably priced. The environment was a nice setting. Unfortunately the brunch menu wasn’t great. £8.25 for the attached. Great for a coffee and a cake, wouldn’t recommend the brunch.

Great food but the customer service needs to be better.

Awful. Nobody greeting customers at the entrance just a miriad of fussy "do this, do that" signage. Moody staff member eventually appeared and gave a half-hearted explanation about the requirement to order via an app before sashaying off. Charmless individual behind the counter said she couldn't help us until we'd downloaded the infamous app and directed us to sit at a table to "sort ourselves out". Very helpful! Table was filthy, covered in debris from a previous client. Food on display looked as wilted and lethargic as the staff. We left without ordering so cannot comment on the menu offer etc. This place is possibly fine if you're a tech savvy millennial automaton but if you're an aging, slightly technophobic, human being with a personality, I'd go elsewhere. We did 👍

good coffee, food is great and a couple of healthy options are tasty. only problem is its pretty busy these days but thats not their fault. staff are always really nice, especially when i'm half asleep and cant find my wallet!

The most amazing Vanilla Matcha Latte 💚

Great value breakfast, with quality ingredients and very well priced. It was a very busy Saturday morning and the staff were clearly rushed off their feet, but were still super attentive. They mislaid our drinks order and when we pointed this out to them, they upgraded our drinks to apologise.

Good enough wife to work in on a laptop. Downstairs there's a table next to a socket where you won't be disturbed. Good coffee, nice desserts.

I was a regular at this cafe for years and the gluten free cake I bought today was delicious, but I was meeting a relative who only had an hour to spare and we waited for 45 minutes for our coffee. After 20 minutes I asked where they were and was told they were coming. After 40 minutes, when I realised loads of people had been served takeaway coffees, yet mine and my companions, which we had paid for had not been, I asked again. Told, 'We serve takeaway first. Do you want your coffee in a takeaway cup?' I said, 'No. I would just like my coffee in the cup I paid for it to be served with.' My companion then asked the waiter as she passed our chairs and she was extremely rude. We finally received our coffee 45 minutes after I ordered and paid for them. There is no visible sign and no one tells you when you order and pay that takeaway coffees take priority. Choosing this out of Balham's many cafes was a big mistake. The terrible and hostile service ruined what should have been a pleasant meeting and I felt angry and upset. Poor service has ruined what was once a lovely venue. My one star is for the cake - but that was soon forgotten amidst such an appalling experience.

Esquire's Balham is my Fav coffee shop, the customer service is AMAZING, I am a fussy customer and very particular about my coffee but the staff have taken pains to learn how to do it just right, now I don't even have to ask they just know when I come in and ask if I would like my usual. There is a warm and inviting atmosphere, their food is lovely and what I particularly like is that the staff are NEVER grumpy..... in fact now I've written this I think I'll go get a cuppa 😁 Keep it up girls ....you are too many to mention personally by name, you are all fantastic xxx

Esquires has become a regular spot of mine since moving here. The coffees are great, the OJ is the sweetest to touch my lips, and the vegan breakfast is worth dying for. Esquires has the best vegan breakfast in Balham! A nice open and bright atmosphere, polite staff, and a good rewards system. They also have cool leather goods for sale, furniture and scarves!
