Great coffee and always the best service from staff.

Only rated 1 star because of service A gentleman waiting on his order , a woman who was just served in front of me and then 2 people ( women ) behind me walked right in and served straight away ! NOT like i couldn't have been seen I was wearing my hi viz jacket AND was waiting in the shop before these 2 female customers even walked in !! Q jumpers.......i don't mind 1 person BUT NOT 2 in a row WON'T be back

Ordered 2 slice rolls, while preparing my food the female server then left the food uncovered on the counter, and starting feeding sausages to a dog, unbelievable

Great food to take out and so near the river Clyde sit and enjoy 😉

Decent food but higher priced. Servers kept getting in each others road. So layout seems to be not efficient for the length of queue and waiting time. April 2024. Much improved 👏. I remember this cafe from when I was very young, it has been a long-standing part of the fabric of the history of the Esplanade. However, I found this cafe expensive for an establishment that has traded on the same menu forever.

Total rip off ice cream over priced .the only ice cream shop I've ever been in to charge extra for their flavoured ice compared to vanilla obviously only interested in making money and not about the customer

Best ice cream, definitely worth a visit.

Despite living on the other side of the River Clyde, their home made vanilla ice cream & with raspberry sauce is just perfect after a good walk along the Esplanade. Been getting ice cream here for easily +20 years. Now it's a family tradition to ensure we have a tub of their ice cream on Christmas Day & Easter. Great service every time.

Went on a Sunday evening between 1800 and 1900 for ice cream- never quite sure what the opening hours are. Three staff and only me as a customer. I've worked some long shifts in the NHS but the two youngsters were a despondent as they come but I think they were taking their lead from the older lady who was obviously in charge are maybe even the owner. Very perfunctory, all business, No small talk, I had to lead on the pleasantries and I'm not sure my good night was returned as I made for the exit. The ice cream was first class, £8 for about 3 peoples worth.

A very popular place for some hot / cold rolls or amazing ice cream but be prepared to wait as the queues are generally at least 10 minutes long and you'll almost be certain to have to queue in the elements outside as the public serving area is almost non existent holding a max of maybe 10 people The ice cream is definitely worth the wait though! 🍦

Unfortunately found the server quite arrogant and the spicy chicken panini wasnt nice. Can't stand that soft, cubed chicken that you find in some food places, and this was one of them. Waste of £8 cause my son wouldnt eat his panini either. Wouldnt put me off going back for ice cream or something else though .

Panini was burnt because staff lost track of the customer orders and forgot it was in the press. Was given it anyway. A proper queueing system would probably prevent burnt food and queueing time being an issue.

Very popular hot food takeaway, Often there is a queue especially at lunchtime. .it has excellent Italian ice cream in various flavours. The servers are lovely, very friendly, and helpful. They always make things however you want them with a big smile. There is only on street parking which is always busy.

Lovely Ice cream. I was served by a very lovely assistant today. I gave her such a list of instructions for my cupa and she carried them all out with a smile and even checked with me as she went along. 5☆ Service.

The ice cream from Esplanade is absolutely amazing. Some say it's the best in the west of Scotland, I'd go further and say it's the best you can get in Scotland. The raspberry sauce and snowball ice cream is just an amazing combination. It's not pretentious or over complicated, but good ice cream done well and imaginatively.

1 star - food was appalling cold and sauce was disgusting. Manner in the way the staff conduct them selfs is shocking being able to talk about customers right in front of the boss. Place honestly hasn’t changed in all the years I have been to it! Also for the money you pay you would expect a smile with the service but certainly not in here and staff also not all wearing masks…? Also not using sanitiser in between food preparation

Food is bad all cheep sq sausage. Footling sausage always reheat . Filled rolls dry with little filling best thing about the place is the staff who served us . But beware owners just stand in background watching everyone and quiet cheeky to the staff very embarrassing. If I was to give a good point need to be when I left .

Staff were absolutely brilliant today, always a busy cafe and they always manage to be as polite and helpful as they can:)! However the rudeness of the owners of the cafe as they walked in absolute apauled me! There was quite a queue and they rudely interrupted each staff member trying to do they're job, the manner they spoke in was outrageous, absolutely no way to speak to your staff. Lucky they even have any left after the comments and digs made today infront of customers!

We just had the best home made ice cream here today. Great flavours available. I had Malibu, coconut and pineapple flavour. A tub for £2. Very good value for the quality. Prompt and friendly service and somewhere to sit outside. Highly recommend.

Best ice cream I have ever tasted. First tasted it nearly 40 years ago. Tried it about one year ago and it is still the best.

Its premises may be small, but the Esplanade Cafe is a famous institution in Greenock for the sheer quality of its ice cream. While it also serves other snacks and food items, it is it's legendary ice cream which draws the crowds. On sunny days (which happen occasionally in Greenock) it is normal to see a line of people waiting to purchase the said ice cream. The building is fairly small and unpretentious, the service friendly and efficient and the ice cream....to die for.

Ideal for when you are out for a walk , or down to see the Cruise liners coming in. Lovely Ice cream sold here 👍🏽. Sells fresh made breakfast rolls all day & soups too. 🤗

This little cafe was very busy mid afternoon. People out enjoying the walk along the Esplanade and stopping by for ice cream and snacks.

I have never had anything other than ice cream in this cafe. That's what I go for. It is a heavenly delight.

It’s a pity that the food and ice cream is so lovely as I can definitely say the staff are not bar a few exceptions. We hadn’t yet made our decision in what we would have liked to order and were rushed whilst met with an appalling attitude. This ultimately led to our dissatisfaction as we ordered something that we later regretted. Staff treat customers like inconvience; not good at all.

Family run café with wonderful ice cream. Also a good selection of sandwiches, tea/coffee, drinks and sweet treats. The macaroon bars are just the best but the ice cream will have you coming back for more.

Not to be missed if in the area. The ice cream here is second to none. I have the soft ice cream normally, but lots of flavours also available.

Really good for a quick bite to eat, either the spicy chicken burger or the jumbo hot dog are good and good priced. No where beats there ice cream either.

Yo, mi prometido y los 2 niños parado aquí para comer algo rápido antes de ir al parque de la batería. Todos pasamos rollos de lleno que estaban bien (no el mejor que he probado salchichas) pero el ketchup si eso es lo quieres llamar fue horrible que arruinó los rollos más o menos. Este lugar es obviamente debido a la cola enorme popular, pero por favor mejora la salchicha y comprar ketchup HEINZ.

Un lugar favorito para visitar para el helado y luego disfrutar de un paseo a lo largo de la explanada. Buena selección de helado de vainilla, pero es mi favorito. Hace poco visitamos en un día lluvioso y había una cola de salida de la puerta, así que siempre ocupado cuando nos visita.

Opté por el desayuno durante todo el día, que parecía ser una buena relación a £4. A un precio muy razonable, pero la calidad de la comida era muy mala. Prefiero pagar más y conseguir comida que podía comer. No volveré y no recomendaría este café.

Esplanade Cafe is one of the best places in this area to get good Italian ice cream and the raspberry sauce I remember what a treat you can buy a bottle of raspberry for £1 lovely jubbly and have it at home. The cafe also have an extensive food menu for carry out which are excellent love the slice rolls and the coffee is great As the cafe is at the Greenock Esplanade you can have your carry out food or ice cream sitting on one of the many benches from. which you a lovely view point of the River Clyde looking north toward the Highlands even on a wet day I have sat in my car and enjoyed my food . There are a few seats outside the cafe not good on a wet day no toilet facilities but there is a public toilet at the pier which is serviceable . Would recommend this cafe especially on a good summer day

Found this cafe just off the esplanade. They were busy, always a good sign, thought we'd have a long wait but no, fast service. Smashing cup of tea and cakes!!

The view of the water here is quite lovely. The food was good but didn't have a wow factor. We had a burger but unfortunately they didn't know what pickles were. The onion rings were ok and the soup of the day was good. Nice for a relaxing meal. Didn't get to try the ice cream.

After a recommendation 8 of us had an Ice cream here and we weren't dissapointed, they are fantastic, I'd definitely come again

I know this place has a good reputation but I wasn't overly impressed. Their ice cream is good and reasonably priced but I don't think it looks very clean. The hot food also did not look very appealing and looked very greasy. I would rather eat elsewhere next time I'm over that way.

Ice cream selection is often varied. For a small shop, there is plenty of food that cos be bought at reasonable prices too. Panini & 99s would be a favour of mine.

Nice for a quick fix when out and about. They also do a really nice ice cream which goes down a treat.

Certainly worth while as they make and sell the best ice cream in Greenock. Also great for a cuppa and a cake. The staff are most helpful and the service is excellent

Greenock esplanade offers magnificent views all year round but on a sunny day this is complemented with a visit to the Esplanade Cafe ,purchase one of the many varieties of ice cream on offer , or if the weather isn't,t so good purchase from a good selection of hot filled rolls .Plenty to chose from no matter the weather , pleasant staff and well priced.

Love to come here for breakfast rolls on a Sunday food is always luvlie and the ice cream is amazing it's a must if your out walking the esplanade

We usually nip in here after a walk along the esplanade in Greenock, for an Ice Cream. Their Ice Cream is top notch, absolutely gorgeous, and worth visiting the cafe just for that.

On visiting the cafe I was surprised at the range of the menu ,food was good so was the prices.it is always quite busy which means it is popular, also the ice cream is very good.

The cafe is a bit of an insitution whether it's for icecrame on a sunny weekend or a breakfast roll to keep you going through the week, the cafe does it all.

Thought I would try their ice cream. Glad I did it was delicious. just the thing to enjoy as I walked the esplanade.

Visited several times, it's a hit or a miss- at least one of the family doesn't finish there carry out food, either cold or dare I say it a reheat- kind of solid/break ur teeth kind of thing!Food is reasonably inexpensive- so suppose u get what u pay for! On the plus side the ice cream is good!

This traditional cafe serves their own wonderful ice cream and a huge selection of carry out foods. Hot and cold rolls, paninis and ciabattas with a multitude of fillings. Great espressos and huge range of soft drinks.

Bit of an institution in Greenock and don't get me wrong their rolls ( at least some of them) are pretty good. Personal favourite is a "Bigfoot"!! A foot long pork link sausage served in a toasted panini, effectively. It is pretty yummy. So that's the good bit. Now the bad. I never find the service very friendly. The girls that work there are always pretty surly looking and grudgingly serve you. When I was in only last week I asked them to cut my roll in half. You had thought I asked them something horrendous such was the attitude. Further, most of the hot rolls are pre made and re heated when you want one. I don't like that practice. The best sandwich bars will make fresh and most people don't mind a few minutes wait. Their ice cream is nice but all in all I feel that they rely far too much on their reputation and should concentrate more on their service and presentation.

We visit this café on a regular basis, food is lovely, not too expensive and the ice-cream is to die for. Staff are great and so is the location. Give it a try you will be glad you did!!
